Kind of scary to look at the dates and realize how very close Christmas is! Just kicking us off for the week. Ruth checked in late last night....who I am glad got some shopping done(or her Dh did), finding some great deals at Walmart. And Ruth, love the sound of that metallic yarn for the ear warmers....
Gotta go get my day started. BBL Ginny

Good morning...its barely morning here...and a happy week to all.
Well I still have to find a few little things for dh and have no idea as I mentioned. I'm just not good at deciding on gifts.
It snowed quite a bit during the night and it's much colder than it was yesterday. The cars are all covered in snow again. There were a couple places I had planned on going this week but if I don't I can do it last week.
Between making the earwarmers I started reading a book by J. Chaveverini based on quilting. It's a great book. It really makes me thing of some areas of my life that I wish I had handled in a different way. If you're looking for a good book get her book Christmas Boutique if you have not read it already. I have only a couple more days in which to read it as the online library gives you 14 days then auto return. If it's available you can access it again but many of the books I get are on hold lists so you have to sometimes wait a long time before being able to finish your book. This one was on a hold list and I had about a month to wait.
I'm going to go get breakfast now though and work on some more crocheting. Have a great day everyone!

Ruth, the Chiaverini series is delightful, One book she put some political commentary in (which bothered the heck out of me because I read for pleasure not for political comments)

Hello Crafters Ginny - 4 loads of wash! I'm so spoiled only doing 1 load a week But I do miss having those cute grandchildren. Ruth - I'm glad you're reading a good book, they are such a pleasure aren't they? Sorry to hear about all the snow and I hope you can get out when you have a chance. Sue - Hope your weather is not too bad. Phyl - Hope you are having safe travels. I can't believe how quickly the last few months have gone by. The weather here has been very rain and cool today. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same, except warmer - near 60, then it's supposed to get much colder the rest of the week. I sure don't miss the days when I was working and having to drive in this weather and also get all my errands done on the weekend. I'm happy to say that I finished all my Christmas cards today, including the ones with gift cards for family members. I also have them all ready to mail, so I'll go to the Post Office one day and get that done. It's a relief to have them done so early. Maybe now I can enjoy the holiday season unlike the last few years where I was stressed getting things done late. I couldn't believe I had 32 family members to send cards/gifts to, and that's without having any children or grandchildren of my own. Those nieces and nephews have had many children and now those children are having children - I actually have a great-great niece and a great-great nephew! Sadly most of the family lives away so I don't get to see any of them very often. I sewed together those snowball quilt blocks I'd made - there are only 16, not 32 like I'd said. I sewed them in 2 rows of 8 blocks and I'm going to put a few borders around it and make a small table runner. I pulled out all my Christmas fabrics and might try to make a few more small projects this month. Take care everyone!

Back home. Will have to see if the Christmas Boutique is a new book or the Christmas story the author had written earlier. Like I said, its a delightful series and I truly enjoyed the whole series with the exception of one book in which she should have kept her political views to herself. Glad you enjoyed it Ruth!!
CJ- wow you were busy getting all those cards done!!! Its very thoughtful that you send cards and or gifts to them- a lovely way to keep in touch even though you do not see them often. Bet your stress level went down considerably! And now you have time and it sounds like also the inspiration to craft a bit. The snowball quilt blocks sound adorable, and I am sure you will will make a very pretty table runner. I too tried to use up some Christmas fabrics I had on hand. (Still have some but a lot were used up). Good that you are back in your crafting ways.
Had a doctors appointment after babysitting and went into Hobby Lobby for a return and quick errand. I do love that store. And I printed out a quilt pattern that a friend sent to me..will put it on my list for next year when I get my machine back. So that is my crafting for the day. Ha ha ha
Have a good night all Ginny

CJ, what a relief it much be to have all your Christmas stuff done. I now longer send gifts or even cards to my neices and nephews. There are just too many. I heard on tv that you are going to get snow so enjoy that 60 degree weather while it lasts. And great that you are inspired to do more quilting. As Ginny said the snowball fabric sounds wonderful and I bet your other Christmas fabric is also. Ginny, you dd is so blessed to have you. Would you come over and do my laundry and dishes? Yes I sure mangled the authors name!!! I do think it's a new book because there were so many holds on it. I had to wait at least a month to get it.I didn't really notice the publishing date. This book, too, has a little politics in it which I, too, dislike but in general it's a good book. I got an email today that said that my Capitol One account had been suspended because of recent activity and I need to click the button on the bottom to reactivate my online banking. Well I don't have any Capital One credit card nor online banking so I went to their facebook page and sent a pm asking about this scam. They asked me to send a screenshot of the email so I did and of course they said it wasn't a legitimate email so would I send it to their abuse dept and I will. I can see how many people, even if they didn't have a Capital One account would have pushed that button. I can imagine the info they would be asking you to provide after that I did get a couple more ear warmers made (the rectangle part only though). I completed one yesterday for my 3 month old dggd (may have mentioned it already) and it's adorable. I want to put something on it though. Some people have made snowman faces but ...well you know how awful my embroidery is.I think I'll work on completing some of the others I have partially done this evening

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get to Hobby Lobby. I have never been to one and the closest one to me is about 30 miles away. I may drive to it one day. Ruth - I'm glad you recognized that email was a phishing scam. It's so terrible how many of these there are, and how many people are hurt by them. I went for my dental cleaning today and didn't have any problems. I've set up an appointment in January to get my permanent bridge put in. It's been there for a few months and they didn't call me and I didn't call them because I was worried about being in pain again, but hopefully it will go in alright and not cause me pain. I went to the post office before the dentist and mailed all my cards and packages, so I'm happy that is done. Now here the saga of what happened later: After the dentist I went to Staples hoping to buy the PC Desktop computer but they didn't have any in stock. There was an option to order it and have it sent to my house and that's what they were pushing me to do but I didn't want to do that. A house just a few doors down from me has had packages stolen off their porch twice in the last month and I don't want to worry about watching for the delivery. They also said I could order it and have it delivered to the store for pickup and I said that was fine, but then they wanted to look in the back to see if they had - no they didn't. Then they wanted me to go to another store for it and there was a store on my way home I could stop at - so they called there and was told they had the computer. So I went there and then that store said nobody and they didn't have any in stock. This store tried to get me to order it for home delivery too and I said no and left. Oh my goodness I will not deal with Staples anymore. The clerks were all nice and helpful, it was just a frustrating experience. Hopefully I'll find the PC at another store before the end of the year. I saw this cute video of E.T. coming back to visit Elliot now that he is an adult and thought you might enjoy it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdgk3ERKdugStrange weather here today - rain and in the 60s in December! Supposed to get some slushy snow tonight. Take care everyone!

Good evening,
Ruth, well I figured out that you meant Jennifer Chiaverini (and I probably misspelled her name here too!) and actually looked up the book. Am stopping tomorrow at my library to return the book on Princess Kate (ok book,a nice light read) and will pick up either the Christmas Boutique book or a book by Betty Hechtmann. So glad you did not fall for that scheme which was not really Capital One! They never ever do that.... As far as Dd goes, DSIL thanked me profusely for what I did yesterday. Dd has very bad mourning sickness. Absolutely awful It would have been in humane of me not to try to help her. She was in bed by 5:30- so glad I washed her sheets and remade the bed. She did go to the doctor today and he offered some medication, which she refused. Think she is hoping that in a week or so, when she is out of the first trimester that things will settle down. So sure Ruth, I will come over and do laundry and dishes....just make sure you have a nice cup of tea for me. That is all I ask!!! I wonder if you can find something easy to embroider to put on the ear warmer.....do not know what however.
CJ- what a saga and all you wanted to do was buy a computer! Wow. I would absolutely deal with another company. What a shame that they were so helpful but so unable to assist. Good news for you that you have a good dental report! I remember how much discomfort you were in with the bridge, and am keeping my fingers crossed that when the permanent one goes in that it causes no trouble. Yeah, we have the same wonky weather headed here.....it rained most of the day and then changes to snow tonight. So happy for you that you got everything mailed!!! I have not written a single card yet....perhaps will start tonight and will get my stamps tomorrow.
Had DGD today, she is such a character. Still no news on my machine. How frustrating.
Ok ladies, so here is my saga. My DS called today. We are not super close, very different people, but get along ok. Think we both realize that well, our parents are both gone and it would be nice if we got along. She does counted cross stitch (beautifully) and knits. Now for some unknown reason (although I do have some idea) Dd#1 has a great distain for my sister. My sister is a bit wierd and quirky, but honestly not evil. She did not help one iota with my mom or settling her estate, but she did one big favor for me, and got out of my way so that settling the estate was not contested. Anyway, Ds made a LOVELY and large counted cross stitch when DGD#1 was born. She made some kind of wrap (I thought itβ was awful) when DGS was born.l She made some absolute monstrosity for DGD#2 was born, honestly I do not see how it would ever fit a baby, it was WAY too big and just a mess. My Dd got upset over the βgiftβ- and what a piece of garbage it was. i do not blame her for being upset.....but she still should have thanked my sister. She did not. So I told my sister today that Dd#1 was expecting again, and she told me that emotionally she could not make anything for this baby because no thanks were expressed for the other gift. Wow. I told my sister I did not want to be a part of this - and really have no idea why my Dd did not just thank her even if the gift was awful. But its still rude not to show some gratitude. Any thoughts out ther, my friends? I told my sister I would not get wrapped up in this, and will not. But it still bothers me. Guess I had to vent.
On that happy note, I am going to start Christmas cards.
Have a good night all. Ginny

Phyl, I'm glad to see that you're home safely. Did you have a good visit with your family? I think I've only read one other of her books. I'll have to remember that she repeats herself talking about her characters CJ, yes that was quite a time you had trying to buy a computer. I bought one from them once but the last ones we got were ordered online. We'ver never had a problem in our neighborhood with packages being stolen. I hope you can find a good one at a store where they actually have them in stock. When we did buy one from them they wanted us to pay another $75 for them to transfer our files. We not only can do that ourselves but at the time Windows8.1 had just come out and it had a transfer file function built in. I do hope that you won't have any problem with the new permanent bridge. Ginny, I had a similar thing happen in our family. When we went to visit dfil a number of years ago. (he died a few months after our visit) we mentioned our son and fil said that he's not speaking to our son, his only grandson because son didn't thank him for the graduation gift nor for the "money they sent for the baby". Well the graduation was from high school and I actually wrote and told them I was writing for him and that he said thank you so much for the gift (for the piddly $25 they sent of course I was gracious and didn't say the gift was piddly for a granduation gift for a grandchild) As far as money for a baby present I know he didn't send one because he would have had to send it to my house as they didn't have another address for ds and nothing arrived here from them. If your ds makes such awful gifts its probably good that she isn't going to send another but maybe she would have gone back to cross stitching. I hope your dd's morning sickness really does abate when the first trimester is over. Now you all would have to mention Christmas cards. I do have a bunch in the house but I don't think I'm going to send any. I always write a nice note with them anyway so I think I'll just write a note and send and forget the cards and donate them to GW or somewhere. Ginny, the tea is all ready so come on over and you don't even have to wash dishes or laundry

Good Morning!!!!
Phyl - well we were worried about you and its good to hear that you are ok. I will have to research the Chiaverini book- it was one of her last before she wrote the two historical novels, one I think about Mrs Lincolns seamstress ....or perhaps it was General Lees wife. I will figure out the mystery.....and let you know. Welcome back....and glad yo are safe. Hope the visit was pleasant for all.
Ruth, so I guess we all have family issues, think it happens to everyone. Dd also got all over my sister for the financial value of a gift, and really- while it did not meet the same value of some other gifts, when you compare that my sisters home (small but in good condition) is worth $75,000 but here in my pricey area it would be worth at least $25l0,000- well you catch where I am going. Sometimes we just have to accept that others financial situation is not the same.
I mailed 5 Christmas cards this am. Will get a few more written today and mailed. This is a wonky year for me, and little by little I will get it done. Hope so! Ran some errands this am and had my mammogram. Think Dh wants to do some CHristmas shopping after lunch.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. We had a dusting of snow here last night but it's already melting since it's a sunny day, but cold (in the 30s).
Thanks for your sympathy on the computer. It's ironic really I was ready to give them the sale but neither store wanted to order it so I could pick it up at the store - their loss. We've had numerous packages stolen from houses right on my street (and this is a 4 lane busy road!) over the past several weeks and I've seen the doorbell videos of the thefts. A few of the people were even home when the packages were stolen. I don't want the worry of watching for a box (with a computer inside) to be delivered to my house. I just want to pick it up at the store
Sue - Hope you are feeling better.
Phyl - I'm glad you made it home safely and I'm glad you could get a new modem set up and working.
Ruth - There were a couple of years where I just sent out a "Christmas letter" instead of cards. My mother used to do that every year. I enjoy getting them from my friends and hearing about their chidren/grandchildren and what their family did this past year. Sadly only a few do the letters anymore. Hope you can get yours done and sent out. I'm sure people will love to hear from you.
Ginny - Sorry you still haven't heard about your machine, it's a tough time of year not to have it. Hope you an get the rest of your cards done and your shopping today too.
As for your family issue, I have the same thing in my family and I suspect a lot of families have the same. I mentioned that I sent out 30+ cards with cash or gift cards to family members. I will be very surprised if I hear back from even half of them. It's the same every year. Some of the ones I used to send birthday money to each year I've stopped because they never acknowledged that I sent it so I don't see why I should. I try very hard to either call, email or send a card to everyone who gives me gifts these days since I get so few now that I'm older and I appreciate those that think of me.
I think you are smart to stay out of the issues between your DS and DD. I can kind of understand how your DS feels, putting effort and love into a gift and then not getting any thanks. But she has to understand it's not for you to tell your adult children what they should do, it's their decision to make now. All this family stuff is just so tough sometimes. Hopefully this one will just resolve itself.
I got up earlier today, which I'm trying to do to see if that helps with my headaches. Since I was up I put a border around each of the small Christmas quilts I made earlier. I'm going to stop with this border since they look alright. The one with the snowball blocks is long and will look good as a table runner. I do wish I'd made the snowball corners larger though - they kind of disappear and it just looks like blocks. The smaller one is a nice wallhanging size.
I have some Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer fabric that I'd really like to work with next. I've cut out rectangles of some of the fabric and I'm thinking of bordering half of them in green and maybe half in red or white. Then sashing or bordering the blocks in whichever color of the red or white that I didn't use. I guess I could put red, white and green borders on the blocks and spread them around to assemble in the quilt top and use some of the reindeer fabric for just a border.
The more I think about this I think I will sash some of the blocks with red, some with green and a few with white and then do a small outer border of white and a larger outer border of the reindeer fabric. I'm thinking a 25 block quilt - 5 across and 5 down. I drew it out and I think it will look good. I'm excited to work on this.
Take care and have a good day!
