Ginny, we must have been typing at the same time. Yes she is definitely one that I will be making a table runner or two or three for. I have a lot of things in mind for her. Last year for her birthday I sent...among other gifts...some dish/ washcloths and potholders. She loved them especially because it reminded her of her grandmother making dishcloths for hershe told me. In fact today I'm going to look for fabric to make some with and will save crocheting for later when relaxing in the "winter quarters" No sewing machine down there. I have a question about them. When you made those for your mother did you put batting or interfacing in them or did you use just fabric. One of the videos showed using interfacing but she made it a long and tedious procedure but said you can use either or neither and just use fabric which is definitely preferable to me because I never learned anything about interfacing and I wouldn't know what kind of batting to use although my expert friends...you, CJ, and Sue, I'm sure would let me know

WEll that wasn't very clear. I'm looking for fabric for the table runners not the dishcloths. I saw some videos for fabric potholders but I'll leave those to her aunt who lives here not far from me who is an expert quilter and has sent my ddil some quilted potholders that I wanted to steal

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. Ruth - I did not put any batting in my 10 minute Table runner, that's why they are so quick, there is no actual quilting done to it - just piecing it together. One of the things I like about them is you can make them different sizes. The piece for the center is 12 inches long by the width of the fabric (WOF) and the larger back and sides piece is 18 inches long by the width of the fabric (WOF). My SIL has made them longer by getting 2 yards of fabric and cutting longer pieces of the 12 and 18 inch fabrics, i.e., two yards of fabric is 72 inches - so she has made some that are 60 inches or more long for a fireplace mantel and bookcase topper. She has also made a few mini ones by making the fabric cuts small, i.e. the center piece is 6 inches by WOF and the back/border piece is 12 inches by WOF. She places those in smaller areas of her house. She also usually puts a pretty button on each of them like was shown in the video. If you really did want to put batting in your table runner you'd probably need to place it on top of your 2 pieces of fabric before you sew them together. Then you could flip it right side out and the batting would be inside. I don't know how well this would work because then I guess you would have to quilt it. This is probably more info than you needed, but I wanted to share Ginny - The dentist did already set up my next appointment for a few weeks from now so hopefully the bridge will be done by then. I'm glad you finished one of the corner blocks, hope the other 3 go together easily. The Mystery BOM sounds interesting. I hope you can do that and enjoy it. We're having a rainy, cloudy day here, but it's in the 50s so not cold. I pulled out all my green scraps and I really don't have as many scraps as I thought. Most of mine are not really one color but instead are lots of prints which I'm more drawn to. I also pulled out my green fat quarters. If nothing else this will get me to go through these scraps and fat quarters and maybe think about getting rid of the ones I really don't like or think I'll use. Hope everyone else is doing well today and getting in some crafting. Take care everyone!

afternoon girls, on the table runners couldn't a person use fusible interfacing? that would help stabilize them.
also if you are going to flip the runner don't you have stitch around the edged first ,leave an opening and then turn it inside out? think it is called birthing the quilt.
you might not have to quilt it. however sew at least a 1/4 inch all the way around.
I finally got my first single shot today.a friend told me to go to a certain pharmacy in town. no waiting. our co-pay was 73.00 dollars.not bad.
wi today and I was up a pound.that is good. my scale was having me anywhere from 170-175. think I need a new home scale.
sounds like I am the only one not doing any crafting.I better get my fanny in gear. oh I did get that one project cut out new year's eve.
not much happening here. phyl

Phyl we all have good days/weeks and bad with regards to how much crafting we do. Go easy on yourself, and besides werenโt you looking to clean your basement? Its a craft area, so that counts..... One pound up after 2 weeks of holidays is not bad at all!!! Get back on track-make yourself a nice pot of that great zero point soup and start losing again. You can do this!!! Good idea getting a shingles shot. I know I got one several years ago, forget if I got the second one. Guess I better check with the pharmacy and see if I did! Anyway, shingles is a nasty illness, and while it probably would not kill you can sure make you feel awful. The immunization is not the greatest in its efficacy but still better than nothing.
CJ- so glad that you set up the next appointment, it protects you from having to go through this nonsense again. Hopefully they will check the day before your appointment to make sure that they have the bridge. I remember how uncomfortable the temporary was, and sure hope that this works and fits well. Yes, I have seen those directions for ways to extend of change the size of the 10 minute table runner. Again, for the sake of those who are looking to make one (you have done so already) its no 10 minute project but takes me about a half hour. I agree with you that there is no need for batting or even interfacing. Because the whole project is double thickness of fabric, it lies just nicely all by itself and needs no final top stitch or batting. Glad you are enjoying the weather - no snow and not too cold. Do you have plans for that green fabric (St Patricks day is coming up?) or are you just going through it?
Ruth, the table runners are easy and fun. I will find a video similar to the ones I made several years ago- and patch the link into the thread. No need for batting nor interfacing. And so nice that you can just use two coordinating fabrics and have such a lovely gift in a short amount of time. They are NOT a long tedious project at all!!! What a blessing to have your DDIl who appreciates your beautiful homemade gifts for her.
Ok, gotta go order some stuff from Walmart before I forget- and check email. Will also find that 10 minute table runner video and leave the link.
Hi to Meg and Sue....looking forward to hearing from you when you can post ginny

youtu.be/fFc5arukiJgAbove is a short video of the 10 minute table runner. I never added a button as she suggested, but did top stitch around the triangle top to secure it. SO easy!! Have fun with this project. G

I'm pretty sure it was Meg that had the shingles vaccine and ended up with shingles anyway or might be she got shingles soon after the shot and thought the outbreak of shingles she had was from the shot. Either way she ended up in pain for at least a year after. I would never tell anyone not to get one though. You have to do what is right for you and discuss it with your doctor. That being said, my doctor hasn't advised dh nor I to get one and I haven't got one. I did get a flu shot this year,dh didn't. I got mine because I went to see her about my bladder problem right at the time they were giving them. The told me to tell dh to come in and get one. I relayed the message.
Thank you all for the advice about the table runner and also in giving me the info on what you did when making them. A couple of the people making them talked about "quilting" them even though they made them with fabric only. Several talked about stitch in the ditch. Phyl, the woman that used interfacing did use the fusible one. I haven't had a chance to look at the fabric yet because I was finishing the chicken soup and making a carrot cake and baking potatoes then the kitchen cleanup so will do that now.
Ginny, congrats on getting the corner block done.Gotta go back and read more so I'll know what I missed commenting on.My memory is not what it used to be.

Oh and yes shingles actually can kill you. If it goes to the brain and causes herpes encephalitis a person could die. I remember especially a young pregnant woman who was in our ICU with it and ended up dying before it was time they could do an emergency c section and save the baby. It was very sad

nope the basement is not cleaned yet.
years ago there was only one singles shot.that one is now outdated.does not last a lifetime. this vacine you get in two shots. I Have to go back in two months for the next one.
Don's friend Mike, he met at the y, had the singles under his skin and in his stomach. Mike even had them by his eye. he never did get over them. he was getting some kind of shot for them. Mike will be gone 3 yesrs now.
singles is adult chicken pox they say.you don't want he chicken pox if you are an adult. when Donna live next door she had the chicken pox at 19.. Donna said she was really sick and suffered.
singles is like any other virus. who knows how long they are dormat in us before the virus comes out .phyl

I probably will put on a button for the ones I'm giving to others since I haven't been doing much sewing and my topstitching would probably not be very straight.

Ruth, does your machine do any decorative stitches or a zig zag?? Also a nice way to finish the ends.
Phyl- thanks for the heads up on the shingles vaccine. Guess I will have to ask about that. Had shingles once as a young woman (very mild case) and do not want them again. G

happy Saturday everyone. I will soon be watching football and watch my home team get beat. I haven't watched much football this year but I think they're playing the Houston Texans which seem like a good team. I'm also going to make my dh a sleeve for his new laptop. It will be made so that the end of the laptop will be at the opening and there will be a tab for a button and a handle for carrying it. So far today I really haven't accomplished much and yesterday I did some things around the house but didn't really do any crafting except for looking at my fabric and at the video Ginny posted. See you all later

It's very windy here today! A short while ago, a dark gray cloud went overhead, and we had about twenty minutes of wildly blowing snow with very reduced visibility.
My new dishwasher is in and working. J the caregiver was here yesterday. I'm in the process of moving some things around in the house. There are two upholstered chairs in the garage that belong in the living room. A sofa in the living room that needs to go somewhere else. A mouse has been upstairs under the sink and dishwasher, so right now I'm very motivated. Tomorrow I will be placing mousetraps before the critters go elsewhere. It's country living!
The man who installed the dishwasher can do lots of things that I need to have done. I want to spend the next few weeks on finishing up the paperwork on my sister's estate before I start on the other house projects.
Quilting didn't happen this week. Our hostess had a houseful of germs and was just getting sick herself. There wasn't enough lead time to find someone else.
I had the original shingles shot and am not planning to get the new one with two doses. It's a gamble.
I've used a variety of things for table runners, place mats, pillows, a table cloth. If you don't want to do any quilting on the piece, Fusible fabric would be good. For simple quilting, I would at least use something like a piece of flannel. I like the effect of using batting for most things.

GOO AFTERNOON, Delona and I were talking about the singles this am. I know the friend she was talking about,I have met Nancy.Nancy had the shingles in her hair and by her eye. Nancy said in the hair they were very painful.never wants them a
I do not know how singles would affect a person's eye site if they had the shingles in the eye.
Ginny before you get the shot check with your insurance company and the place that will give the vacine to you... some will pay some will not, some will have co-pay.
Delona only had to have a c0-pay of $3.00. mine was 72.00 dollars.
where I got my shot the price is 272.00 dollars I don't know what Delona's was she got her's at walgreens.I got mine at a pharmacy that is a part of our clinic.
Mary jo's neighbor's dd got her shot insurance did not cover it. 400.00 dollars. I go back in 2 months and will probably have another co-pay.
so do some research just don't go marching in there place.
A friend told me about this place. so I called them.the lady asked me questions to make sure I was in their system. called me back and told me what my co-pay would be.
we did some bumin. Joann's,Michael's and hobby lobby and the mall.
Michael's is having a 40-50 percent off sale.today is the last day.
I did get a deep scrap book container. that is what I will put my put my cut up kits in for storage. I will know where they are.the ones I am getting ready if we do a retreat this year.
IN the craft departments they have these high tower I call them. they look like miniture men 's tool chest. usually in pink or green with a black open the front and there are plastic cases inside.
Barbara and Nita bring them to quilting. have to see what they put in them first.not sure how much I would use one. Michael's had them for 50% off today.today was the last day.alot of crafters use them. phyl
