Welcome! We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched. Buckle up! It's going to be a wild ride this year!

Happy New Year everyone!
This is going to be an interesting year no matter how you slice it, and on the political scene it's going to get even more ugly than what we've grown used to if that's possible. I intend to start the year out with high hopes for the future. Both Iran and North Korea are scary situations, and it surely would be nice if we had someone who actually was capable at the helm to navigate through this. Since we don't have that, we'll just have to hope for the best. As for impeachment, we've known all along that there's no hope of conviction even if he himself testified and said yes I did it all. So our hope is to beat him at the ballot box. His most faithful will follow him no matter what, but there are cracks. He's disillusioned a lot of people who held their noses and voted for him. I have real hope that he's going to alienate those people so much that they will not do that a second time. So now we just need to find the right candidate and get behind him or her with all our might regardless of whether they are our "perfect" candidate or not. I'm hoping those Bernie supporters who refused to vote for Hillary have learned their lesson if Bernie is not the candidate this time around either. So my motto for the year is going to be "Vote Blue No Matter Who."

Considering how nasty the election and posturing was last time, I can't even wrap my head around how unhinged and UNamerican his words will be this time Makes me truly sad for our young people to think this is how it's supposed to be

I love the "Vote Blue No Matter Who"....:-)
Well, I did not stay up till midnight. I went to bed about 11 or so. I looked out the window before getting into bed & the house across the street had their blinds open & their 4 year old was bouncing around the living room, throwing pillows, etc. LOL So a 4 year old beat me into seeing the New Year in. Gosh, wouldn't it be wonderful to have that bundle of energy everyday again. Wonder if his parents made it to 12. LOL
Ok, Joyce, you inspired me to "house walk" again. The last time I did it on a "serious" basis was about 5 years ago after I had both knees replaced during the Winter. I walked the house as part of my physical therapy along with the recumbent bike. So, house walking is my New Years Resolution for the rest of the Winter. Thanks for reminding me about that again. Last year my resolution was to start reading again, one book a month. I far exceeded that, so I ended last year with a successful resolution. Going for resolution #2...:-)
Have a relaxing day. Practice writing 2020 .

LOL! That 4 year old beat me too, Linda. I was in bed by 10. This morning I saw a text from my 11 year old DGS. Their family had friends over for the evening, and he sent me at text that said "we're going to IHOP and it's 3 a.m.!" I remember those days, and they were fun. This year we celebrated as usual on our couch with a nice bottle of wine and some appetizers. DH did at least see the New Year come in on the East Coast, but I didn't even do that. My goal for today is to get my Christmas decorations down and put away. And, I'm starting off the New Year at 11 lbs down, so I'm happy about that. I'll gain some of that back while we're in CA, but hey that's better than gaining more without having lost down. So I'll climb back on the wagon when we get back home. My resolution is to stay active and eat healthily all year. I'm looking forward to the New Year. I have a friend on another thread that always says "life is a gift." I intend to remember that and enjoy my "gift." I hope each of you will as well.

My friend posted this on Facebook today, and I wanted to share it with all of you. The friend who posted this is one of those evangelicals we've talked about who can not tolerate the JA in the White House. I don't know how she voted in 2016, but I do know that she will not be voting for the JA in 2020. She's only 35 and a beacon of hope for me.

Fingers crossed for 2020! Yes, it is amazing how folk who identify themselves as religious can pick and choose from the Bible. Kind of like the Republicans picking and choosing from the Constitution. I also try to remind myself: "Every day is a gift."

Looks like there must be a lot of people excited about Bernie's candidacy again because he's in the lead at least right now on money raised during the last quarter of 2019. But Mayor Pete wasn't a slouch on the money raising either, so it looks like his candidacy is pretty strong. He's really come a long way considering not many people (I am one of them) had ever heard of him before he threw his hat in the ring. Surprisingly to me Andrew Yang isn't doing badly either with fund raising. Of course not all the candidates have reported what they've raised yet so it's a little early to really be able to tell much. Unfortunately money seems to be the name of the game in politics. You can't possibly win without it. Will we ever see real campaign finance changes? Is there anyway to truly get the money out of politics? I'm not at all sure there is, but it's a nice dream.
Just saw where Castro has ended his campaign. It's just as well as he didn't have any chance of winning, and it's time that we narrow the field so we can focus on candidates that have a real chance.

Anyone else wonder, if, JA & his cohorts are manipulating this Iran/Iraq situation to divert attention away from Impeachment & election? Just what was that phone call with Putin about a few days ago? Boy, this whole Middle East business the last few days is downright scary since I trust the current administration not one iota!!!!!

@lka48, ever see "Wag the dog"? I think DT used it as a reference for all the crap he does.

The world is even more scary this morning. DotRen, I agree with you about "Wag the Dog." I'm very much afraid that is happening, and we will pay the price for it. There is no one around this JA who will say no to him, and he would ignore them even if there was someone. He's going to do what strikes him on a whim at the moment and what he feels is in his personal interest no matter what. He's frustrated about getting caught and all that is coming out about Ukraine, and when he's frustrated he's even more dangerous than usual. We're all just helpless pawns, but you can't call us pawns in his chess game because he isn't capable of the strategic thinking needed even for chess much less to be the leader of the free world.

The fact that JA didn't even alert the "Gang of Eight" to the plans about killing this General, is another reason to Impeach Dictator Trump!.....Oh, but Lindsey Graham was "pleasantly surprised" that he was brought into the loop for a briefing. Jeez!!! Ya, Right!

Ha.. Guiliani says he wants to testify at the impeachment trial. I'd pay to see that clown show. Considering all that he's admitted to in public interviews, he just needs to bring the nails (for the coffin).

Speaking of Wag the Dog, when news broke about the whistleblower, he announced that he was pulling troops out of Syria. I can't help but think that this latest maneuver was, in part, meant to impact the 2020 election. And speaking of 2020, does anyone think that Bernie will convince his voters to get behind someone else if he doesn't get the nomination?
