Phyl,, I agree completely with Ginny on her point that visiting later might, indeed, be even better. Most times the funeral is over and so is the comfort of having family members around and the bereaved person is alone and lonesome. And I know that Don's family would not want anyone to be involved in an accident trying to get to his area when the weather is horrible.
Ginny, you are definitely NOT talentless. You have great talent in not only quilting but in crochet and embroidery also and I'm sure in other areas as well. And I'm not as talented as you think. And I too wouldn't dream of sending something I crochet to anyone that is good at crocheting except under special circumstances. You mentioning singing with your grands reminds me of back when my oldest grandchildren were little and I used to sing the Barney song to and with them while driving. And your dgd must be very advanced in speech to be able to sing because I didn't think she is even two yet. I haven't heard my dggd talk at all yet and she turned 2 the last part of June. She probably does talk but just not around company. There were a lot of people around when I saw her just before Christmas. Some of my grandchildren were very early talkers and some were late in talking. Guess the same will be true about the great grands.I used to sing to my ds' oldest too as I babysat him while his mom went to classes or worked. DS was in the Army and still in basic training at the time then was in Germany for awhile before they could go over and join him
And talking about talent...I'm sure not very talented in following graphs. Good thing this one has only six rows.Unfortunately it's 31 stitches wide which is the problem. I keep losing my place and have to go back and count a lot. And, of course, the yarn gets so twisted as you change back and forth between colors so you have to stop and untwist a lot or you get a huge mess. Luckily it's only two colors too.Plus this is the first that I've followed a graph except for the dino hats which had only one dino which made it much easier. Oh I did do those 7 Christmas tree headbands back in 2018 but They were made flat, not in the round so that made it a lot easier and the pattern used a while different stitch.
Ginny, if I didn't want to get this hat done for her bday I probably would set it aside and work on the afgan but I may do it anyway because, although her bday is Feb 3rd I'll probably take her presents with me when we go to visit which will be later and I want to take the afgan too so hopefully it will be done by the time we decide to leave for our trip.

Ruth, sometimes directions are just not very good- graphs and all. Sometimes using a highlighter along the way on the graph helps, but then you have to do that for each row, and that is a pain. (Its the primary reason I gave up on counted cross stitch- I just do not want that kind of headache anymore.). But I give you a ton of credit for taking it on and the hat sure is adorable. Not sure I would want to handle the color change.....Guess the difference between the hat and the cross afghan is that for many rows (while working on the body of the cross) the stitch count will be the same as you work down the support of the cross. With the Dino pattern, It looks like each row has a different count, and that would drive me nuts. Regarding DGD, she sings a few of the words and likes to make the appropriate sounds for the song the “wheels on the bus”. So I do most of the singing and she chimes in when she can. Irregardless, its pretty funny and we have a good time.
Had a nice afternoon with pastors wife as we went over her new box of fabric and mini quilts. The set is adorable, and she will be making 8 different mini quilts from it. Think I helped her pick out the first one to work on. The directions seem clear enough. Hope that if she needs any help the company she bought from will assist her. We had a fun couple of hours together today and it was nice to see her. Oh yes, I did find my black DMC- apparently I knew I was running out and ordered some from Joanns last spring when I placed an online order with them. So I can get back to work on my pillowcases. I do have to come up with something else like the pillowcases to work on - I do have some work yet to do on them but am progressing quickly enough. But then in a few short weeks i will be making a baby afghan. Perhaps I ought to focus on that.
Babble on here Ginny.......Have a nice evening all. Ginny

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm sorry you won't be able to go to the memorial service, but you are smart not to take a trip when the roads might not be safe. Ruth - I have lots of very disturbing dreams. I often say that I wish I would never dream again. I also dream about still being at work. Ginny - That was a sweet story about your DGD and storytime, sounds like she is really enjoying it. It was cold here again today, but sunny. I went for my dental appointment to get my permanent bridge put in and when I went inside the building I found out that all the power was off on every floor (it was also off in many buildings in the area). They tried to call me to let me know but I'd already left to drive to my appointment. So they said they will try to get me scheduled next week for it. The dentist said he had a few tools that could run with out electricity and he thought about trying to place the bridge in - but I told him I don't want to be a guinea pig I stopped by the grocery store after I left the dental office and came on home. I hope I'll be able to get it done then because I'm getting tired of going for appointments and not getting it done I did some embroidery last night and used up all my threaded needles - I think I had about 8 threaded and those only do about a fourth of one square. The pattern calls for 3 strands of embroidery thread (I think because the X on the pattern is so large) so it doesn't take long to use up the thread. I'll try to get a bunch of needles threaded again tomorrow so I can stitch when I'm in the mood and I'm still hoping to finish up those pillows. Take care everyone!

Ginny,, no I'm finished with the dino hats. The one I'm working on now has dgd's name that I'm working on crocheting into the hat like the dino was but this is a lot harder. However I think..yes think....that I have it under control now. and I also wrote out the directions for doing only the part of the Cross afgan that has the Cross on it. There were going to be way too many color changes in it too, surprisingly..not the same as doing a graph but still not easy to deal with all those yarns. After I finished the main part with the cross I'll do the rest like an overly large edging.
Your dgd really does sound like a delight.
Yes you will be busy doing that baby afgan.

CJ, That is really awful that once again you weren't able to get your bridge put in. That has to be beyond frustrating!
Phyl, which project did you decide to work on. The other day you mentioned the pink scarf and some quilting projects
Well I did finish the graph part of that hat. It was a dismal failure. Her name was there but it didn't look right. I did revise the graph accordingly but am not going to do it again right now. I did get my revised Cross afgan pattern written out and will start on that. I still have things I want to make to take along. Kitchen things and hanging things to make storage of things more compact.
DH was thinking that we should go out today but yesterday he asked it I was going...I said, well if you are and he said that he'd changed his mind which was, of course, fine with me.So we'll go next week.

Hello Crafters Phyl - Hope your dental cleaning with the new people went well. I'm glad you finished enough of the paper pieced blocks for a wall hanging or table runner, I'm sure they look pretty with the nice sharp points. Ruth - Sorry to hear the hat didn't work out, hope it works better when you try again. I'm interested to hear about the Cross afghan progress, I think that was such a pretty afghan. What colors did you decide on? Ginny - I hope you aren't getting the bad weather that is working it's way east. Looks like it will just be rain for me. Meg and Sue - Hope you are doing well and getting some crafting done. I haven't done much today. After going out the last few days I just wanted to stay home and not do anything. I did put out the recycling and trash containers for pickup tomorrow. I have the big rolling ones so it takes awhile for me to fill up the recycling one and it was ready this week. Whenever I've tried to put it out without also putting out the trash container, the recycling people never pick it up, so I've learned to put them both out. I think they just see one there and don't check if it's trash or recycling and drive right on by. I hope I can get back to some crafting tomorrow and this weekend. I have been enjoying the latest book I'm reading. Take care everyone!

Long day here, between working this morning, babysitting all day and then most of the family here for dinner.
CJ- you must feel doomed with regard to getting this bridge put in! Hope that it all goes perfectly when you go have it put in and that the power is on!!! Its a great idea getting all those needles threaded in advance, then you can just work through with little interruption.
Phyl- how did your dental appointment go? Do you think you will follow your hygienist to her new location?
Ruth, you had mentioned that you were going to make lots of neat baskets/hanging bags for the kitchen storage. Think its a great idea to start on the cross afghan. A nice change from hats. Glad you were able to amend the Dino instructions Sometimes its just best to walk away from a project for awhile.
Oh- forgot to mention, I saw the Bible cover on my friends Bible yesterday- gee it fits pretty well and looks good! So glad I made that for her- it was a lovely easy gift. Now gotta make one for myself.
Is tomorrow really Friday? Have a great night all GInny

good evening,
the dentist appointment went very well. I ASKED him about two back teeth that keeps getting meat in there. he said (I knew this )that thee was a big deep filing there. he could put in a crown but no guarantees. then he asked me if I wanted a crown?.I said "no I have enough crowns now." he liked my answer even chuckled.
did not do much today. cleaned up my mess on my sewing cabinet. well just a little cleaning.
talked to Nita she told me how to really pin the paper blocks together.
some more snow tonight. Friday snow, rain and sleet.gonna we get which one different times of the phylday.

Good morning, Yeah Phyl I think you chose wisely regarding another crown. I have some also, but if I was given the choice would avoid another one if I could. They are expensive for sure. Gee you did get some crafting done yesterday, if you chatted with Nita about pinning the paper blocks together and cleaned up the sewing cabinet area. Working with the paper pieced blocks is a little bit different but they do turn out so well.
Gotta get in the shower - I get my hair cut today- it will be nice to have a little time to myself. Ginny

Well I worked on the 10 minute table runner. It only took me about five hours and I'm not done yet. Most of it was spent finding things then rethreading the sewing machine which I had to look up the instructions for. Then I couldn't get the needle itself threaded. I also had to take out one seam when I was making the point part because I didn't pay enough attention didn't get the edges even. I still have the other end to do. At least I did it the right way so the point does end up with the right side showing. Now I'm not going to admit that I put the backing fabric on upside down (oops I just did). It looks ok though and since I had both sides sewn before noticing that and it looks ok I left it that way. I'll just keep that one or maybe give it to dd and she won't even know that I made a mistake. another problem is that my ruler is too short
Last night I started a crochet organizer that you can use on the arm of a couch or on the bed (flap goes under the mattress. This morning I started an organizer for in the bathroom. Now I need to finish both of those. Tomorrow I'll finish my table runner and start the afgan and/or some more table runners.
I hope you're all having a good day.
Phyl, my dental hygienist moved too which was strange because she and her bf had just had a house built and even make an inlaw apartment in it for her grandmother. They lived there three months then I guess they must have broken up because all of a sudden she was gone and the receptionist at the dentist's office told me that the hygienist had moved back to the town she came here from and I saw that the house was being sold..

Phil, don’t sweat that 2 pound gain. I really do believe that you will do better next week. We all mess up from time to time and the important thing is is that you learn from it and move forward. You probably burned off a few calories walking to stores today.
Ruth, well like any new project the first time through takes a lot longer than the subsequent ones do. I know you’ve not seen in a while so remembering how to thread your machine was probably a task also. And with whatever issues you had making this first one, I’m sure that the other table runners will be much easier to make. But they are adorable and they turn out well right! Got a little bit of embroidery done today. Got my hair done this morning and then DH and I went for a walk this afternoon. See you tomorrow. Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad you got some more embroidery done now that you've found the floss you were looking for. And had your hair done and a nice walk too.
Spent some of the evening working on my organizer...the one you put over the couch arm,
I'm very concerned about my dgs and his wife in Taiwan, They have some coronavirus there too now and it's a small island with a lot of people crowded together so it could spread fast. They say that one woman visited central China and found she was infected after she got back to Taiwan and it's now spread to others.(don't you just love when you hit one key and another appears. I've tried to change that n five times and it won't give me the h when I try to correct it in others above...worked here)
