Good morning all....Phyl checked in last night with her input on thread use. I know that the quilt shop I go to really recommends Aurifil (as did Phyl- who also recommended Mettler and gutterman) and I heard that the reason you want to use these somewhat pricier threads is that they lint less in the machine and break less. I cannot attest to either- and like I said I have used coats and Clark’s on smaller projects.
Got my fabrics out to make a bible cover, which I hope to do today. It will be a nice test run for my machine.
Dh and I watched the first 3 episodes of Poldark last night (rented season 1 from the library). He really seems to like it and it was a wonderful change from what he usually watches in the evening (which I find a bit boring).
Swittched babysitting days this week to accomodate DD’s MIL. So we are off today and tomorrow....kind of nice. Have a great day all Ginny

Thank you everyone for your wonderful info on thread. I used to buy the cheapest possible thread..the five for a dollar spools. I still have some left which I use now only for sewing buttons on my crochet items if thread is needed...Mostly I use one strand of the yarn to do that. I have seen all the yarns mentioned by all of you online but ended up buying the Mettler this time.I don't need quilt thread really for just table runners or potholders or whatever I use my fabric for but I do want one that won't clog my machine with lint. Of course I also hate when thread breaks.
Today there is a 90% chance of precipitation and it looks like it already "precipitated" Roadways are wet. It's cloudy though and it's not going to be very warm today so I have a feeling we'll be seeing some of the white stuff at some point
Ginny, I think a lecture on American Indians would be very interesting. I hope you enjoyed it too,not just your dh. I'm glad to hear that you have a couple days off and that you'll probably be able to work on your Bible cover.
Although I crocheted yesterday after I got up I never did get back to it.I'm still working on the organizers. They are large.I also want to make one of the plastic bag holders. Most, to me, esp after the bags are put in, look ugly but I've recently seen a couple nice patterns.Today I'm going to start the cross afgan so I can work on it in the evenings.I also want to get all my tote bags that are filled with yarn out of the bedroom and put into the craft room in a more organized way.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today We have temps in the 40s this week and no rain until Saturday - nice winter weather in my opinion. I finished one of the shirt pillow covers this morning and now that I have the size down I can cut out the others and should be able to get them done with no problems (hopefully). I want to give 2 of them to some family members later this week, so I want to get them done. I also pulled some fabrics to work on a Mystery Quilt - Scrap Dance Mystery 2020 - that starts this month and runs through August. The "clues" are given once a month and there are several sizes to choose from. I'm just going to make the tabletopper size (24x24) since I have fabric for that. This month is just getting the fabric cut so in case you are interested here's a link to the website: frommycarolinahome.com/2020/01/17/scrap-dance-mystery-2020-the-twist/She really picked some pretty fabrics for her quilt. I got my new desktop computer set up today too and was able to print off some tax documents so I can get ready to do my taxes when I have the rest of what I need. I've been using the H&R Block software for years and it works good for me. I was surprised how easy it was to set up and then really happy to know that the Microsoft Office that I have on my laptop transferred over to the desktop too and I didn't have to buy it again for that machine. I'm working on other things this week too. I had to make a list because there was so much and I knew I'd forget something Take care everyone!

I was correct that it was going to snow. Snowed once then stopped and all that melted but then started up again and we have about 3 inches. CJ you're right...she did pick pretty fabrics and colors for her two quilts. I always feel like people kind of cheat though when they pick those packs of precut fabrics . It sounds like you're really back on the crafting track and you have some good things for on your list. I'm glad the first pillow is done and it does sound as if you are really on a roll with those. I have to make lists too but then I forget where my lists are. I did get some things done earlier in preparing for our trip. But I have to go thru my notebooks that I actually have here beside me to find my written out directions for the cross afgan.I really need to stick to just one notebook at a time. Ginny, how did your day go? Did you get to work on your Bible cover? I really should make one for mine. Guess I'll add it to my list. Phyl, I know you're keeping busy as usual. We have one mall in our town but I haven't been to it in over 4 years but I know a lot of the stores there closed. Hello to Meg and Sue also.

CJ, glad you got your software set up on your new computer, and then now you can think about getting your taxes done when you’re ready. What a big relief! That mystery block of the month sure sounds like fun, and I do like the colors that she’s chosen. Good luck with it I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Ruth, well little by little you will get everything done. And I think we’ve all bought cheap thread before, and then found out that it probably wasn’t too good for much. As far as the Bible cover goes I was happy to see that she revised her measuring directions, so it actually reflects the difficulty that I had when I was making the first one. I think it’s a wonderful idea to get that cross Afghan started, it’ll be a nice project that will hold you for a long time.

CJ so many people pay to have their new computers set up. It's so easy to do now though so I always wonder why they don't try it. I'm glad your's was easy. It's great too that you got the H&R block software on it too. I never thought of using them online. I used to use TaxAct but last year after I got our taxes all done and went to put it through they wanted to charge me so I went to Turbotax and did it there. I may have to try Block this year.
Ginny. I'm glad to ear that you not only got to work on the Bible cover but found that the pattern maker revised her directions so that it's correct now. and a nice walk too !
I did get the yarn together and got the right instructions that I wrote out all together. I found that I had the wrong ones upstairs so I'm glad I didn't start this morning because I'd be ripping it out. So tomorrow morning I'll start. I have so many things on my list now but most are not essential but I'd really like to get this afgan done by the the middle of March and I think that's very possible to do.
Just now an inspiration came to me. I was thinking that I also have two dgd's to make a couple things for for their birthdays and I remembered these cute little drawstring bag patterns I've seen. The dgd that will be 11 is a rock collector and the other collects coins so I can make them these bags to keep their collections in. Ok another item added to the list. I'll make them each two of the bags.

Good morning, Ruth, so very glad that you got the correct directions out and that you now have a plan to make that pretty afghan. Now I could never commit to making an afghan starting now and having it done in mid March, but i am sure you can do just that. Think that the little drawstring bags will be a quick and easy diversion when you need one from a large project like a full sized afghan. And the bags sound perfect for the young collectors.
Got nothing done on the Bible case last night....hope to work on it today. Ginny

Right after I wash the dishes I'm going to start on that afgan and Ginny, I have a lot more time on my hands than you do as you don't have much at all so I could get an afgan done in that period of time. Sorry you didn't get to work on the Bible cover but maybe today you will be able too.
It seems a little warmer here today but the snow is still here so maybe not. The wind is pretty bad though.
Have a great day everyone. I'll be back later

We've had a little snow but not much accumulation. The daytime temperatures have been above freezing. Atypical.
This morning I had breakfast with a friend then went across the street to the optometrist to get glasses for my computer. There was some updating on my reading and distance lenses as well. I'm just juggling my old frames!
I'm not doing much crafting at home. I am still working on several scarves at quilting.
hb fielded a call with the grandpa scam this morning. He thought it was real, but he didn't do anything other than calling his daughter to find out what was wrong. He thought it was a real call because how would they know his phone number! By the time I got home he was a basket case because he couldn't find my address book.

Oh Sue, I am so very very sorry about the scam call this morning- and hope that your husband has calmed down and is pretty much normal again, Thank goodness that no harm was done and at least he had the sense to call his daughter to find out what was wrong. My mom had garden variety dementia in her later years and when she got one of those calls it was a ton of work getting her back to normal. I can imagine that you had your hands full! Glad you got out for breakfast with a friend. It was a nice change of pace for you for sure. Sounds as though your winter has been mild also- hope that we are not all in for a whopping winter in February.
Ruth, wind is bad enough and will make a cool day feel so much worse. Were you able to get some afghan time in?
Got a few minutes in to work on the Bible cover. The designer needs to add steps to her instructions to check dimensions as you go. The cover I just made is a bit snug, and I will have to open up a seam and make it a wee bit larger. Frustrating, but its just for me so its ok.
Off to watch Poldark. We are still in season 1 Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad your husband is enjoying Poldark, hope you are too. Isn't the scenery beautiful? Ruth - Hope it's less windy today. Sue - I'm sorry to hear about your husband getting that scam call. It's a real crime that people do that and that so many innocent people fall for it or are upset by it. Meg and Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I got my bridge put in yesterday and so far it's good. Hopefully I won't have any problems with it. I was just so glad to get it done. I made a list this week of things I needed to get done, and I'm doing pretty well so far. Today I got together all the recipes for a cookbook that my niece is making for her two daughters - she is going to include family member recipes from her side and her husband's side for the girls (well they are young adults now). I think it's a wonderful idea and hopefully they will enjoy having some of my recipes. I could only find one of my grandmother's since she just cooked by memory and I tried to type out a few of my mother's but there aren't any of hers either. I also cut all the rest of the shirt fabric into squares and hope to sew them together this evening - that will get those pillows done. And I cut the fabric for the mystery quilt and have that sorted into bags. Tomorrow is working on family pictures, I'm hoping that doesn't take as long as the recipes did - I think I spent 2-3 hours today doing those! Take care everyone!

CJ- I think that making a family cookbook is an excellent idea and a nice way to remember relatives who came before us. I wonder if you remember any recipes from your Mom or grandma, even if you do not remember the specific recipe, just knowing that they loved to make a certain dish might be helpful. And yes, the cooks from long ago did cook from memory. Its a big undertaking to get that cookbook made, but a loving gesture that I am sure your great nieces will appreciate. Hope you can get those pillows done tonight! I hear you regarding going through pictures. Its such an undertaking and is hard to do. You cannot save all pictures and deciding which to keep and which to toss is not easy.. But getting those pictures into digital form will be such a blessing- helpful for the next generations to see where they came from but also useful for you because you will know that the pictures are not going to be wasted and will be preserved. Congrats on getting that bridge in! May it last you many many trouble free years- for all the trouble that it stress it caused getting inserted. Funny story about recipes. My Dh is of dutch descent, as is a former coworker. My coworker, Pat (knowing Dh has a good amount of Dutch blood in him) for a specific recipe for “figure eights”. I told Pat I would ask my MIL for that recipe. Mind you Dh grew up on a dairy farm and Pat has close relatives who are dairy farmers. So I told Dh I was going to call his mom to ask for a recipe. He rolled his eyes and told me “good luck with that”. I could not figure out why he had such an attitude until I got into the conversation. First off my MIL told me - “don’t bother using real butter for this, cheap store brand margarine works best”. (They lived on a dairy farm? ??). Then she goes on to tell me the recipe- no measurements- no details- all of if instructions like- add enough flour until it forms a ball, maybe It takes 4 or 5 cups of flour, but I do not remember. By the time we got to the “end” of the recipe my head was spinning and I had little idea how to make the cookies!! But, I did the best I could, typed the recipe up....and believe it or not it works, sort of. But at least it explained my husbands attitude. No crafting today. Babysat, and then when I got home I did check out a web page for my friends mini quilts. She says they directions are confusing and I am trying to find better directions for her. Think I am going to make another cup of herb tea and put my feet up. Babysitting today was a long day. Ginny
