CJ, I'm glad to hear that you got the bridge finally. I hope it's ok, fits correctly and lasts forever. Going thru pictures is very time consuming. It's something I need to do and since I just was trying to rearrange the close all my boxes of pictures are in I realized fully just how many I have. I had already gone thru some albums that I had some in and threw away a lot. It will be a job for me for another time.Maybe in the summer.
I agree about the recipes. My mother had a book that she and her father used for keeping recipes in. I don't know what happened to that either. My sister had it but I'm sure she just threw it away. I would have loved to have it. It had my grandfather's writing in it. He did a lot of cooking. Then my mother added someof hers to the book. Also she had a couple recipes I would love to have that she made all the time so I woulld have loved to have it for those too. The one recipe was especially good. It was a steamed pudding she made in a 3lb coffee can.She called it plum pudding but it didn't have plums. It seemed a lot different from the recipes I've seen for steamed pudding since then. I know she made it with suet and it had raisins which is all I remember. She put a lemon sauce on it to serve.
Ginny, your mil's way of cooking sounds like how I make things. People ask me for recipes but I don't use one for most things...just put in what I think it needs. For baking though...like those cookies and most cakes you have to be pretty precise with ingredients although I do modify some of the things I bake too and they turnout fine. I'm glad you found a tv series that both you and our dh can both enjoy watching.
Phyl, that seems like a lot of money for just one meeting a month. It sounds like Shelly is a real expert in paper piecing and is also good at teaching others how to do it.
I didnt get all that much crafting done today either. I did do some rows of crocheting and found some of my crocheting tote bags that I want to use on my trip.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's been cloudy here today, and cool, but overall nice weather for winter. Hope your weather is good too. I did finish sewing all the shirt pillow covers last night so now I'm ready to let my family pick out which ones they want. I hope they like them. I've gotten to the point where I don't want to look at them because the project turned out to be so irritating, but hopefully after they are given out and I only have mine left I'll enjoy looking at it again. It is a nice memory of my father. I also put together a small quilt top using the rest of the 5 inch squares from the package I'm using for the mystery quilt. It's just a small wall hanging size and I used the fabric to make 4 patches and then put some borders around it. My goal this year is to really try to use up the fabric that I already have, even if it's just small projects like this. I'm also sorting through some photos, so I'll have them ready to take with me when I go to my DB's house. He's going to take pictures (with his phone) of the pictures and then get them put onto discs for all the siblings. The ones I'm taking are just a small portion of all the ones that we have. My father had put a lot of them in albums after he retired and it's nice that they are protected. But he didn't arrange them in any order, i.e., the older phones, trip photos, grandkid photos, etc. So sometime I'm going to have to through all those albums and sort those pictures out. At least that is something that is easy to do while sitting watching TV. I found that it really helped me this week having a list of things I wanted to do. I do make a lot of lists for other things, but not for weekly things to do - so I need to consider continuing this because I did get a lot done. And I finished most of what I wanted to in January. I wish I'd gotten more of the embroidery done, but I had to get some other stuff done, so I'll try to get back to it in February. Hope everyone is getting some crafting in. Take care!

Lists are wonderful- it sure does make it easier to prioritize things!
CJ- congrats on getting the pillows done.
Phyl- indeed that place sounds expensive, but it is nice that everyone attended today.
Ruth, like you, I have many pictures to go through and oh yes its so time consuming.
Speaking of pictures, I had to put mine away. All the sudden Dh decided that the friends we are having over for pizza tomorrow evening, well that we have to entertain them in the family room and that is where I had the pictures out. So I had to put everything away, and clean the room.. It was not that bad, but I thought I would try to please dh - who has been a wee bit grumpy. Got a nice cold walk in this am and no crafting. I really do not want to count putting my machine away as crafting. Grrrrrr..... have a good night all Ginny

Hello Crafters - Looks like everyone is busy, hope you are all doing well It was a cold, cloudy day here and we're getting some rain tonight. I was able to take a bunch of photos to my DB's house and he made copies of them, so at least that is one task done. He and my DSIL really liked the pillows made from my father's shirt. I'm glad they did and I hope they will remember my father every time they look at them. We went out to lunch after we were done and I had some really good fried shrimp and hush puppies. Those were the biggest shrimp I've ever seen. I'm hoping to work on a few new projects in February, especially some stitching/embroidery. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

CJ -glad you stopped in to say hello! Job well done getting the pillows made from your dad’s shirts. Think that your family will remember your father and also you when they see the pillows. What a charming and personal addition to make someones house a home. So I will pick your brain....are there any good sites that sell stamped cross stitch? I know that all the big sites (Joanns, Michaels etc....) do, but I am wondering if there is someone else who also sells stamped cross stitch. Herrscheners does too- just am looking for something different. Is is very cold where you are? We too just got the rain, and its in the mid 30’s.
Well been up since 4 am- and left to pick up Dgd#2 and DGS at 6:15 am. They were here until 4 pm....good day with them, but I am tired.
No crafting for me other than making a pine cone rolled in bird seed with DGS at his school (after covering the pine cone in crisco).
Good night and see y’all tomorrow. Ginny

For some reason I keep thinking that today was Saturday. We went out grocery shopping especially because next week the weather is supposed to be terrible. It snowed quite a lot yesterday and today was very windy but it blew the snow away not into drifts so we were able to get out with no problem and have stocked up for awhile so don't have to worry about not being able to get to a store.
CJ, it's great to hear that you got the pillows done and were able to take them to your db's house and they liked the pillows. Yes your dad won't be forgotten now that they have a great reminder. I also meant to say the other day what a great idea it is to make a list of things you want to accomplish during the upcoming week and what a great feeling of accomplishment to see all on the list done and crossed off. I'm going to do that. Oh and you also have some of the pictures taken care of too so one more thing done.
Ginny the pinecones with birdseed is a great craft for children and also helps the birds. I've heard of them being made with peanut butter and then the seeds but haven't heard of them made with crisco. I think I heard somewhere that peanut butter is not recommended.
I've just made a list of things I want to have completed this weekend. I think it's important to have realistic goals and that goes for lists also as they are also goals. So I tried to put enough on my list that it would be a small challenge but things that can actually be done in time.
I haven't done any crafting today so far except for reading the posts on the crochet groups on FB but plan to get a little more done on my over the couch arm organizer and that's one of the things on my weekend list...to get that done.

Happy Saturday all- Ruth, I guess that is the best kind of snow of all- even if you got a lot it all blew out of the way. What a blessing that you were able to get out with no problem and without a lot of time spent cleaning the driveway or car from a heavy snow fall. Yes, I think lists are great....it forces you to remember what you want to do, allows opportunity to prioritize, and provides that lovely visual of seeing things getting crossed off because they are completed. When I worked full time (and still had 3 kids living here) I realized a few things....one was that my mother was a horrible time manager and could waste time better than anyone I knew. She basically lived to do what pleased her and made her happy, so that meant that she crochetted and crafted a lot (so we do have some beautiful heirlooms , my grandkids are still wearing hats made by my mom!) but that I had to do better at organizing my time. My mom never worked outside the home (she did not work inside the home much either! Ha ha ha ha) and therefore never had to become even remotely efficient at time management. So while working as much as I did I became the queen of “5 minute jobs”. I broke down many household chores into their time components, and knowing that I had lets say only 10 minutes left before I had to return to work, I would find two 5 minute jobs, or one 10 minute job to get done. Looking at housework like that became very empowering to me because I felt like I was actually able to get things done that I had put on a list. Yes realism in making lists is important....many larger tasks ( lets say like doing your income tax) can take a few hours to complete, but one sub task could be to get the tax folder out and make sure I had the necessary receipts for the job.
We attended a movie at the library last night on the Hudson River and its gradual restoration to being environmentally healthy. The movie was made by a local man for the National Geographic society, it was pretty good, but they had technical difficulties with the broadcast. Still an evening out. And while at the library I picked up Season 2 of Poldark, and also the latest Jennifer Chiraverini novel (her books mostly revolve around quilting). My goals for today include a walk to get a birthday card for my BIL (his bday is in a week) and spending time with Dd#2 who will be here doing her laundry today. I told Dh last night that today and tomorrow I really do not want to do much of anything. This week seemed challenging to me, not sure why. And we found out that the week of 2/17 we are babysitting 4 days in a row. Dd#1’s MIL cannot sit that week as she will be traveling to spend time with her oldest daughter after the birth (Csection) of her first child. Thankfully that is the week of Presidents’ Day- so no school on Monday. Otherwise we would have to babysit for all 5 days of school.
Okie dokie, I have babbled enough for this am. See ya later! Ginny

Ginny you would have to mention the "T" word , It's just another thing I need to get done before our trip. I have to put that on one of my lists. One day will be pretty much filled with taking dh to see his doctor just for his annual check. hopefully on that same trip out I can get all the bags for GW delivered and also the bags of hats I have to take to the Senior center for the Caps for Kids group, Week before that...this coming week, another day out due to taking him to get blood drawn for the tests. So I'll have to use your method to get things done with those 5 and 10 minute tasks.I'm much like what you're describing about your mother. I sit and crochet most of the time..except when I'm on the computer collecting patterns that, realistically, I'll never be able to make in this lifetime. I hope your dh honors your request to not have to do anything this weekend and you can get the things you want to accomplish done. And that sounds like a lot of babysitting. Every day that week except for the holiday but luckily your grands are well behaved and enjoyable to be around.

CJ, we must have been typing at the same time. I looked at that video. Another great project. Too bad I just threw away a bunch of old pillows I could have done this and put them to a new used as decorative pillows. I'm glad to hear that you have the fabric needed for the February blocks. That's the great thing about having a stash but I'm sure that what happens to me happens to you also in that you probably have to shop to get some more to add to the materials on hand.
It's a warm day here....in the 40's but the wind is bad so it feels cold plus there's no sun so that adds to the lack of it feeling warm

Phyl- hope you feel better!!! So sorry to hear you are not feeling well.
Ruth, well, please forgive me for being the bearer of bad news, that its the beginning of tax season. Yuck.....but we do have to get them done no matter what. Hope you can get everything done that you want to accomplish this week. Always so nice to get those donations done!

CJ- got to investigate the cross stitch kits and while I did not find what I was looking for I did find a really pretty kit that I think I might give to myself as a birthday present- now. The envelope pillow cases are easy to make, and so pretty. I love how you can change the cover for the season. It also means that the pillow case can be washed, and the pillow form replaced in the event that it flattens out over time. What a great idea.
Kind of cloudy here, not too cold. Hoping for a quiet day....and will watch the football game later on- hope the commercials are good. Ginny

Hello Crafters Phyl - I hope you are feeling better today Ginny - I'm glad you found something to get yourself for a birthday gift, what was it? The thing I liked about the Jack Dempsey pieces was that most of them didn't have a lot of stitches and then I could add fabric around them to make quilt tops. Ruth, Meg and Sue - Hope you are all getting some crafting in. We had some rain here this morning, but now it's sunny. It's supposed to be in the 60s for the next few days. I don't care about football, so I won't be watching the game tonight, but I'm sure plenty of people will be. I finished up piecing my orange bowtie blocks for the monthly Rainbow Scrap Challenge this morning. I also finished the envelope pillow case. I want to make sure to stay on top of this monthly challenge, because once I get behind I end up quitting. The bowtie blocks go together really quickly and I'm enjoying seeing the variety of fabrics. Now I can pick another quilting project to work on this month, as well as continuing on the embroidery projects. I also have 4 crochet projects that I've had sitting out for months and I'd sure like to finish them this winter or early spring. They are all blankets and once it gets warmer it's harder to work on them. Take care everyone!

THe cross stitch kit is called A Season for Eveyrthing....I think its very pretty.
CJ- glad you got the pillow case done and also your bow tie block. So Nice that you can keep up with it, and it keeps the pressure on you to create. I agree its nice to get the afghans out of the way before warmer weather starts.
Sorry to be so short. My other post floated into cyber land. Ginny
