Well, I watched the entire speech, and the rebuttal afterwards. Need to find the fact checking stuff online. It did seem more like a rally that a State of the Union speech, especially with the emotional moments of "real" Americans highlighted in the audience. I didn't hear much mention of plans for the future - health care, infrastructure, nothing about gun control. And of course nothing about the budget or how deep in the hole we are.
I'm not sure this is Mayor Pete's time, being so young, but he does sure impress me and I think he'd be WONDERFUL in a debate with Trump. Whoever becomes our candidate, they need to be able to win NO.1, and secondly, I do not want anyone who is beholden to the big corporations.
nashville11, I don't have an air fryer and just don't want one out on my counter top all the time. You may convince me I need one, though!! I love my convection oven and, being retired, I'm not usually in a big rush, so the time-saving advantage of air fryers isn't swaying me.

I switch the channel every time that ugly goon with that idiotic smirk is on tv. Duh. It finally dawned on me why my arm hurts so much. Lol.
So, why would I intentionally watch an idiot giving a speech that a president usually gives? As far as I'm concerned we do not have a president at this moment in time. We have a puppet. An evil puppet.
His supporters scare me more than he does. What do they see in him or like about him? His sexual predator ways, his lack of important information, his GIANT ego because his daddy had blood money, his school yard bully stance when dealing with opposition, his rude, crude, and indifferent personality?
Are his supporters birds of a feather or just plain clueless? Either one troubles me more and more. I see them as a dumbed down wild and angry gang of thugs marching in the streets with torches in their habds and destruction on their tiny little minds.
Other than that I'm good today. How about you?

I watched the clips of the SOTU . I wasn't surprised that DT acted like a child and didn't shake NP's hand. I was not happy that she tore up the speech in a drama-queen fashion - that stooped to his level of childish acting out. Maybe it was deserved, but it was not "adult", IMO.

birdgal, well, I've heard evangelicals argue to the effect that imperfect (!) men can still do the lord's work even if they don't care or realize what they're doing. Basically they can ignore or live with the flaws because they like the results. I know Hitler comparisons are frowned upon, but isn't that how that whole thing started? First you need a good scapegoat. DT started with immigrants and Hillary/Obama, now he has socialism, the media, elites, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, gun control, climate "hoax" - he's good to go. I could probably think of a few more, but I'm tired.

Evangecials believe many strange and unbelievable things. They can twist and turn things to fit where they want it to fit. That's why our Founders insisted on separation of belief systems and a working government for all the people.
They would cringe at the state of their country today. They'd recoil in horror. That's what I'm doing.
The goon in tbe WH is using Evangecials. He's also very good at twisting and bending truth to suit his evil ways.
This is exactly the thing our wise Founding Fathers dreaded. Religion and politics in bed together means corruption and disaster.
This works well for the goon in the WH.
How peaceful and serene are people in countries around the world are where religion rules?

Lani, perhaps comparing Hitler to other human monsters is frowned upon because the truth hurts!
It's been said history repeats itself! It sure looks and feels like a repeat.
I agree with you. How convenient when we see the same kind of madness going on in our country we are told not to compare, it's not the same, that could NEVER happen here, and on and on. Bull!
Hello? It IS happening here! Right now. We damn well better see that and stop it before it's too late.
History is our teacher, our warning system, a flashing red "danger ahead" signal. Do we want to stifle that and regret it? Pretend we are different or better people than the Germans were. Or, are we brave enough and smart enough to see the writing on the wall in BIG BOLD letters and nip this thing in the bud before it's too late? No matter what religious zealots believe? Remember they are watching and waiting for the destruction of this planet so please keep their beliefs out of our future.

birdgal, Pat, I'm seeing some of my friends who are evangelicals who are opposed to this JA egotist. That gives me a little hope. But these are younger evangelicals, and the majority of evangelicals I am friends with are older and still under his spell for reasons I simply can't fathom. I wouldn't classify my family members who support him as evangelicals, but I do have some family members who are ardent supporters much to my dismay. Those in my family who support him give their reason primarily as being opposed to Democrats because they think this JA is standing up against abortion. Have I mentioned that I have some complete idiots in my family? He could care less about abortion or any other issue except that he sees it as a way to mesmerize the masses. But, they are hanging onto that for dear life and shouting it loudly as their mantra. I close my eyes and scroll on past whenever I see one of them post, because they're the only family I have left other than my daughter and her family, and I don't want to lose them. DotRen, it was totally childish and uncouth of the JA to not shake Nancy's hand, but then we know not to expect anymore of him. As for her ripping up the speech in front of the cameras, I understand the sentiment. Personally I would not have been restrained enough to not smack him over the head with it, but I do wish she had not done that. It just gives his supporters even more fodder. lani, I think Hitler comparisons are totally on target. We haven't reached another holocaust, and I pray we never do, but this is exactly how Hitler started. It's like he's copying his playbook and executing it carefully. As for Mayor Pete, there likely are a lot of people who wouldn't vote for him because he's gay, but I tend to think or at least hope that the majority of those people are in the Republican party and are not Democrats. After all, we used to say people wouldn't vote for a woman, and I can remember when people said that a Catholic couldn't get elected. The fact that he did so well in Iowa shows a lot as Iowa (I think) has pretty strong mid-western values, and I would guess it's not the most enlightened state in the union (not that Tennessee has any room to talk). I think that in the future he could make a really great President. Right now it does concern me that he has so little experience. I know Obama didn't have a lot of experience, but he did have some. And even with Obama he pretty much squandered the advantage he had during the first two years with a Democrat Congress. He tried too hard to be "nice" and garner bi-partisan support when it was clear from the beginning that the Republicans had no intention whatsoever of working with him. I think he was naive about that. He did get the ACA through but I think a lot of that was due to Biden's experience. Still I love Obama, and I was proud to vote for him. conniefromct I'd love to see Mayor Pete and the JA in a debate as well. Pete would mop the floor with him. He is extremely intelligent. As for the AF, I've never used a convection oven but I expect they are similar. I keep mine stored on a shelf rather than out on the counter. I am enjoying it though, and love that it is so easy to clean and cooks quickly. DH is just excited to have chicken legs in the menu repertoire again after so many years. LOL!

I'm with you Rene - even if it was deserved, I was so bummed out when I saw that clip. It was such a departure from her adult in the room persona. Mike Bloomberg has a lot going for him with his stance on climate change and sensible gun control but, he's not without his own baggage.
I hope we don't wind up with a brokered convention.

I didn't see any of it.
I can understand Nancy's anger though and I don't blame her. Sometimes you have to get down in the dirt with your enemy. She probably wanted to smack him in the face so this was a better option. Maybe.
Day after day after day of dealing with an irrational, disrespectful, jerk, who happens to be the president of the US, can wear down decent people.
Sometimes enough is too much. I hope it made her feel better. Sadly, it also made the jerk feel better too.
I know we like to stay on the high road but we are only human. I love Nancy Pelosi. She's a brilliant woman, a respected politican, an elder who deserves respect.
She obviously reached her "I can't take it anymore" point. Can you blame her?
He's such a disrespectful piece of crap.
She was simply tearing up a piece of garbage paper to be recycled.
She also has more, um I'll say nerve, than most of the men in that room. Wink, wink.

It's what we expected all along. I am grateful that Romney showed some moral fortitude even if only one article, and grateful all the Democrats stood strong even though I expect it can cause some problems back home. History will smile on all of them. I am ashamed of the two Senators from TN, but that's nothing new.
