Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and that we all have a great week! Ruth and Sue - Looks like you are getting some winter weather, I hope things aren't too bad for you. Stay safe. Ginny - Are you getting the warmer weather (in the 60s) like I am here? Phyl - Hope you can get your paper piecing finished. Meg - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I didn't get around to looking for a needle threader last night, but I'll look today so I can hopefully get some more needles threaded. I'm hoping to at least finish the stitching on the third block and then I might put this project away. It's not giving me pleasure and it's crazy to work on something I'm not really enjoying. I do want to do some more embroidery though and I found a few quick patterns to stitch up and pulled out a fabric I can use to trace them on. I hope to get that done soon and then I can work on those. I think it will be more fun to work on a project using only 2 strands of thread, which is much easier to thread and work with. I've been thinking about what quilting project I'd like to work on and I think I'll try to work on my Tumbler quilt. I've already cut a lot of squares and trimmed most of them with the 5 inch tumbler template. So now I need to sort them into lights and darks. It's supposed to be a scrappy quilt and also there will be no fabrics the same, each tumbler will be a different fabric. Years ago I went to a museum exhibit of Charm quilts and I found them fascinating and I've wanted to do one every since (this was over 20 years ago). You can use any shape you want - squares, triangles, tumblers, apple core, etc., but every piece has to be a different fabric. So maybe I can finally start on my Charm Quilt. Here's a link to some history of these quilts in case you are interested: www.antiquequilthistory.com/a-history-of-charm-quilts.htmlTake care everyone!

well we got the promised snow and it's still snowing so hard you can't even see. They've closed the airport, all the roads into town and around town, the schools, etc. Strange thing about this one is that the wind is also blowing and from the wrong direction. On tv they're showing what they call Colorado and Utah being bombarded with snow yet the pictures they show show hardly any snow at all. they say it's 15, feels like -5.
Today will be a sit and read and crochet day for sure. In Indiana where my son lives its 72 today he says. It's actually going to get colder there too though in a couple days.
bbl, have to get some things together to work on today

Phyl- quilting is a messy sport indeed!! My church buddy sent me a picture once of her socks after a day of quilting, and of course they were covered with threads and tiny pieces of fabric. I am sure you understand. Well good for you finishing the 3 blocks. Now you can move on to something you like better. So sorry that you could not find what you were looking for in HL. The problem with them is I find stuff I like even if I do not find what I went in there for!! Thanks for the stitcher.com web site, I checked it out and they have lovely stuff- but I am super happy with what I ordered at Joanns.
CJ- yes we did not get as warm as you did but it made it in the low 50’s- which for early February is amazing. Thanks for the link for the scrappy quilt history!!! 2 years ago my friend and I attended a quilt show and listened to a lecture of historical quilts from the Hudson Valley. She had many antique quilts with her, some so intricate and with lovely designs. The most beautiful (in our estimation ) was a scrappy quilt, made in 2 inch squares, its age was estimated for 1860 to 1870 (pretty much what your article online said). Wish I had the time and fabric to do that!!
Ruth, how much snow did you get???Wow, it sounds awful out by you if they closed everything. And a perfect day to stay in and crochet or read. My kind of day for sure. Stay home and stay safe....
Babysitting today, and the kids were a bit ornery. Glad we will be with them here tomorrow, when Dh and I both agree its easier. Got storytime for the little one too. We did make pinecone bird feeders and hung them on the deck. By the end of the day, the birds had discovered them and that was neat to see.
Hoping for a quiet night here. Better finish cleaning up the kitchen. Ginny

Phyl- sorry my mistake. But you are making good headway and are probably getting very comfortable with the process now. Love your new avatar. So pretty and colorful.
Worked today, and it was thankfully a very short route so I got home earlier. DGD was here today and it was storytime day. So a pleasant day indeed. I have not gotten any crafting done, but I did get my BOM out and hope to get back to it tomorrow. DH is going out with a friend for breakfast, so I will have some time to myself to work on it. I did see this years BOM on the quilt shop web site, and well the good news is its pretty but not that pretty that I want to make it. My friend does not want to make it either, so we are both happy. Both of us have other projects we want to work on.
Quiet here today. BBL to see if anyone else checked in. Ginny

I started to post earlier but got interrupted.
Although it snowed all Sunday night and all day yesterday we really don't have a lot here. At the airport which is not at all far from my house they measured 15 inches. Tonight though the wind is going to come up and will make the snow that is here drift a lot. We already do have some impressive drifts but after the wind we'll probably end up being snowed in our driveway for awhile. Dh has a doctor's appointment next week so hopefully we'll be able to get there. Dh was in a mood today because the snow removal company piled snow up at the end of our "driveway" I put quotations because we don't have a regular driveway. It's just a very wide area where we park our three vehicles and the pile of snow is not directly blocking any of the vehicles but he says it will cause snow to drift there and that that isn't the point anyway...he just doesn't understand why they think they could pile snow in that spot. It's true that there are plenty of other places the could have make the snow hill. So that kindof ruined his day but he's finally calmed down. I'm sure he's also thinking about going to this yearly followup visit to the doctor where he will again not get taken care of in the manner he thinks he should.THAT is also very irritation to me...the doctors in this town are a joke.

Good morning, Ruth, Well that sure stinks that the snow removal company bungled your driveway. Is it a private company that you can contact and have a sane discussion with? It does really stink when they seem to indiscriminately push snow to an area where you so not want. I have a neighbor who puts up reflective markers to help guide the plows. Perhaps something like that might work for you and Dh. Wish there was a magic wand that could be waved to get the local health care professionals to provide the care they are supposed to. That must hurt you, especially knowing the many years you provided care to others as a nurse (for that matter you are still helping us here with medical opinions from time to time!). So to see a lack of professionalism must bug the tar out of you. Perhaps they have reorganized their office in the past year and are providing better care....that would sure be nice. Hope that today is a better day for both of you! Its hard to keep a smile on your own face when there is a grump (even if his grumpy ness is justified) across the room from you.
Not sure what today will bring. I have a walk planned with someone from my bible study, and hope to work on my quilt a bit. This afternoon Dh and I planned on going to run some errands, but his sister is back in the hospital- we might end up going to visit her there.
My Joanns order shipped....and am looking forward to getting the cross stitch kit. Oh! Dd was here yesterday to pick up the kids from us and told me that perhaps she will not find out immediately what the gender of her baby is for awhile. (The sonogram is in a little over a week). Well for those of us who would like to make an afghan or quilt that is a problem....as it does not give Dd#2 and me time to make a baby afghan and quilt.

Good morning crafting friends. It's a very windy day here. Snow is blowing around. The snow removal people are out ther struggling to keep the snow under control. The neighbor was over here with his atv which has a plow doing something in our driveway so hopefully he was not making the situation worse. He means well. Yes the snow removal companyis a private company hired by the HOA. I don't know the name of the company so have to find the phone number of one of the HOA officers so that I can find out.
I did work on an earwarmer yesterday. Yes it's not something I even had on my list but I seem to have lost my inspiration to crochet.I'll work on that later. I did get the seams...very small seams on the over couch arm organizer so now I just have to section off the pockets. I have the yarn together for the cross afgan.
Ginny, I thought that nowdays when they did a sono they immediately told you the gender and gave you a video. I know that some have them give them that info in a sealed envelope and then do a big gender reveal party and find out with everyone else at that party. I wonder if they have a special sono for that..I know they have well maybe a 3 or 4D sono they do now for that which pretty much is a complete picture of the baby almost as if the baby is out already and a picture had been taken. I've never seen one except for what people have posted on FB

Gee I have no idea what they have planned for this sono which is in a week. I have never seen a sono-video and if Dd ever got one I was not aware of it. Its pretty common to get the gender in an envelope to be discovered another time. So lets see what Dd actually does. Right now I am leaning toward making the afghan teal, which is not really genderless but is a pretty color. Going to look at POL colors and see what ai like. POL was such a joy to work with, and I hope to make this afghan from that also. Think I would call the snow removal company and try to have them see things your way. We pay good money for these services, and they should be providing a useful service and not annoying their customers.
I finished the other 2 corner blocks and now have to only attach the final border and the quilt top is DONE! Then its off to find a long armer...which will take a few weeks I am sure.
Got freezing rain coming tonight....and Ds has to go back to work in it and is working a double. I am hoping for a snow day so that not only do I not have to work but I do not have to babysit.
Have a good night all Ginny

New snowstorm rolling in later tonight. Most likely this will be the most snow so far this winter. The last storm over the weekend was a foot, give or take a little.
I'm not going to quilting tomorrow. It's too far away, given the weather forecast on a road I don't like to travel when there's snow and ice. Four lane highway with lots of traffic, including 18 wheelers.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and surviving the winter weather We have rain here and it's going to be heavier into tonight and then end tomorrow with some windy weather. I'll take the rain over the wind, since I worry about damage from it. I worked on a small embroidery project yesterday, it's about 11x13 inches. I did get to JoAnn's on Tuesday and bought a few needle threaders so I need to try them with the 3 strands of embroidery floss. Threading 2 strands isn't a problem. Hope everyone is getting some crafting in. Take care and have a good day!

hi, was going to clean today. all I did was talk on phone and time on the computer.
the class Nita and I will be taking in March is called unwind. we need the grids lazy angle ruler.
also need a jelly roll. I have one here it is batiks. not suitable for a baby quilt or something.
to make a lap size I would need 54 strips. I order a jelly roll I would have to get 2.as I would not have any fabric here to go with the jelly roll ones.
I did see a nice one, daily special for 19.00 on MSQC. (thinking.)
I had to chat with MSQC have not been getting their emails.they are having problems with their server. some customers are getting emails and some are not. they are working on getting it fixed.
google unwind quilt pattern click on the jaybrid picture.that will show the quilt and she talks about it. phyl
