Ruth, so glad you were able to get your husband to the doctor and get home early before the snow became a problem for you. Sounds like you had a good day, and you even had time for pizza!
Yeah I got my errands done this morning got everything brought into the house and then got a few minutes to work on to mug rugs that I was going to make for my friend at church. I should be able to finish those tomorrow. I think it took me longer to figure out the fabric I wanted to use for them donated to actually make them.
See yβall tomorrow. Ginny

It's always so nice to get our order and look at the things we've ordered. I always feel like I'm getting a present when my order comes. It sounds like you got some goodies for the grandchildren too.
It's a beauriful sunny day here. It's not all that warm but its felt better because there was not a lot of wind but it's building up and is pretty windy now but not yet as bad as it was Tuesday when we had to go out
I was working on a potholder. It has blocks of different colors in it much like a plaid or gingham and I wanted to practice that. Well I need more practice obviously. I forgot a couple times and left my yarn hanging on the wrong side so . there are a couple mistakes showing on the front. I was going to give it to ddil but with the mistakes I'll just keep it. Maybe I can get a couple to look right before we see her.Her birthday will be a couple weeks after we get there and I want to make her a couple things besides the afgan.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and the weather isn't too bad where you are I didn't get much of anything done yesterday, but today I managed to write out some checks for bills and also get my taxes ready for mailing. I also packed up one of the three boxes I need to mail to family members - with the framed photos. So I'll be able to get all these things mailed tomorrow. I sorted out some of the fabrics for the tumbler quilt and I see that I have a stack of fabrics that are more "novelty" types, not a regular quilting fabric design. So I think I'll make all of those into one quilt top. The other fabrics I've sorted by colors and I can sew them into rows and do another top that way. Hopefully I can get started on this soon. It should be pretty easy since it's just a bunch of straight sewing. Hope everyone has a nice Valentine's Day tomorrow

hi , happy valentine's day.
ginny I have a juki serger and hate it.could never get use to how to work it.
you are looking at juki DO GO TO A DEALER WHERE YOU CAN GET HELP DO NOT ORDER ONLINE.
NITA ordered one on line and hated it. all directions are in Japense or other languages.
SHE watched the videos they had online again no english. when you watch some their fingers were in the way.you try and read the bottom by that time they were done showing what you need to know. can not remember if it was a bobbin problem or could not get it to sew.
last summer when we went to the closing of Nany's notions store, standing in the guy in front of us said he fixes them at certain quilt store. we never stopped their then.
so when we went to the retreat in Il she traded it in and got her janome mc7. beautiful machine expense.
then on the way home we did stopped at that store. not to many junki's there.had she bought the machine there that would have been a 3 hour drive both ways from us if it needed to be fixed. yet they are a good machine for commerical use business.
she loves this expensive janome. I would say keep looking and stick with a some very good quilt shops can be a good dealer. the shop where we for sew day is bernia and babylock dealer. they have a guy that comes in and fixes machines.
what happen to the viking shappire you were looking at.phyl

Ginny, I've never even heard of that brand of sewing machine. Maybe CJ or Sue has heard of it.
Sue I have a Janome but defiitely not the one NIta has. Of course I don't do anywhere near these t sewing that she does so I have no need of it either.
Well I haven't got to any crafting yet. I did some of my Bible reading and study then dh got up, we talked a little while then cooked. I have chicken and dumplings going now which I haven't made in at least 45 years so here's hoping they turn out. At least I do have mashed potatoes cooking too in case the dumplings are a failure. Then I'll be back to read the rest of what I want to read in the Bible today then on to crocheting.
It's quite warm here today but windy. Our driveway looks like a disaster area so hopefully it stays warm for a few days so that it will melt.
see ya later

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!Ginny - I don't have any experience with a Juki machine. My machines are all Brothers. I'm sure you'll check for online reviews of any machine you are interested in - that would give you a good idea if a machine is liked or not Ruth - I hope your chicken and dumplings turn out well It's cold and windy here today, but sunny. I went out earlier and ran a bunch of errands. I was a bit "irritated" at the post office when I mailed my taxes. After putting the Certified Mail label on each envelope, the clerk then put the sticker with the postage amount at an angle on the corner of the envelopes - with a bit sticking over the top on the back and the other bit sticking over the side to the back. There was no reason she couldn't have fit both of those stickers on the envelope better. I didn't say anything because it wouldn't have mattered - they just ignore you. And I worry that they might throw the envelope out and not process it if you give them a hard time. At least I have tracking on these two envelopes so I can check to make sure they were received and I still have 2 months before taxes are due so I could resend if I needed to. It's just sad that there is such a lack of customer service anymore - and really in this case I think a lack of common sense. Take care everyone!

CJ, yes customer service in most businesses and government offices are almost things of the past. I'm sorry that you now have to be worried about your taxes arriving. I do mine online so don't have to mail anything but in the past I just put them in the dropbox and hoped for the best.
I ate one of the dumplings and it was really good as was the chicken part. So that worked out great.Thank you CJ.

Phyl, thanks so much for your input on Juki! I knew you had experience with the brand somehow....did not know if it was good or bad. Now I do. My quilting buddy from church was considering a Juki long arm machine and asked if I knew anything about them. I respect your opinion on this and screen shot your response, sending it on to her. Think she was afraid of what you mentioned, that it must be bought online and you have no support for the machine. As far as I go, when my singer dies or my Dh says its ok for me to get another machine, then I will happily graduate to the Husqvarna sapphire. Glad you got the jelly roll you ordered! Perhaps you can work in those watercolor fabrics so that they do not bother you so much, or use them for another project.
CJ- think you get the award here for being the first to get your taxes done. (Ours get done at the end of the month). Think you have a good strategy for the tumbler quilt and how you will use up those novelty prints. You can make something really cute out of them - or perhaps another tumbler quilt. We got much colder weather here, but at least it was a sunny day.
Ruth, hope your dumplings came out great! Did you make them gluten free? They are pretty easy to make- hope yours were successful and if not the potatoes will be good. CHicken and dumplings is one of my favorite winter meals for sure.
I made 2 mug rugs yesterday- gotta take out some top stitching I am not happy with but overall they are very pretty. Hope to get them to my friend at church who was feeling a bit bummed last Sunday. I had hoped today to have some time to myself, but Dd needed help with the kids- so I helped with them. Dd went for her sonogram today and the baby is a little boy. I am excited for them- now they have 2 children of each gender and my HL yarn will be perfect. I have had a lot of contact (via email) with the long armer. Got a phone call from another long long armer who asked for some time as she just bought a new machine. So I will stick with the first person who I spoke with ( I think).
Have a good night all Ginny

CJ - so sorry you had such a horrible experience with the postal service. They cannot legally throw out anything that is sent through their service- but I do know that sometimes its a challenge getting a cooperative individual there. Do you still have the receipt? On it there is a survey code, and If I were you I would feel free to go online and blast that teller with your bad experience.
Ruth, so glad those dumplings came out so well G

ginny, I do not know anything about their long arm machines. only by the serger I have and the juki machine Nijta had.
give me a couple of weeks and I can find out more from people in the quild who have long arms.
I do know long armers go to school to lean how to use them. quilter Maxine takes classes every year to lean what is new and how to do the things.
the ones I know are in business. my friend Kathie just sold her long arm a few weeks ago. she bought and ran a business till she got it paid for and then just did long arm for herself..
medically she could not sand and do what ever needs to be done is why she sold it.phyl.

Congratulations Ginny. I knew it was a boy! Now two of each.
Phyl, you are always so much help. You know a lot of people so that what you aren't sure of you can find out from one of your friends' personal experience which is really great to hear.
No I didn't make the dumplings gluten free. From working with gluten free flours and mixes I just don't think that dumplings would work if you tried with them.I did eat one but the rest are for dh who's A1c was good so he can continue with the way he eats and not have to make changes

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - That's exciting that you all know it will be a baby boy, and I'm sure the baby blanket will be beautiful. Hope you were able to get your mug rugs done. I waited until today to do an online survey for the post office with my experience yesterday. I wanted to make sure that my letters had moved out of the post office first I checked the tracking and they have. I did let the post office know that I do find the overall service good and that the clerk was polite, but I just didn't like the way she put the labels on my envelopes. And I also said I would always recommend the post office, just not that branch. I started sewing some of the tumbler blocks together today and it goes pretty quickly. It's just a bit strange sewing slanted sides together. The biggest problem I have is that I overthink what block should go next to the other block. I'm not very good and just doing things randomly, I need to see order. So this will be a challenge for me to let go of that need for control. I also made a quick block from a MSQC tutorial for the Pins and Paws quilt, here's a video to watch and see that it's a cat block: www.missouriquiltco.com/land/tutorials/pins-paws-quilt-snips/index.htmlI have a fat quarter of this 1930s fabric with kittens on it (hope you can see it since it's a Pinterest page): (Note I deleted the photo since I was concerned it logged into my Pinterest account.) And I thought I could make some Pins and Paws blocks and sew them around the edges of the fat quarter so I didn't have to cut it up. I found a nice silver/gray and a blue fabric nd some cream background fabric, so I just need to make a few blue cats and a few gray cats. I also found a bright yellow that I might use for a small sashing or border. I did a test block of this today and it really sews up fast and the cutting isn't too bad either. was cold here today, but sunny. Hope your weather is nice and that you are all getting in some crafting this weekend Oh wow, I didn't know the picture would show up from the Pinterest page. I hope that isn't a problem for our board, but maybe you all can see it quickly and then I'll delete it.
