Dh has good control of DGS, so I will take a minute to come back.
The crochetted/braided bracelets I got off of YouTube also. The YouTube I saw called for yarn, but I realized that DMC would create a more refined look and have opted for that. Again, using a g hook, it crochetted well into a chain and the 3 chains made a nice braid. I also saw the beaded friendship bracelet and for me, it looked like a lot of work for beads that will probably fall off. I will check out some pretty buttons for the young lady on my bus. I have her for another 3 weeks....her mom told me this am. I wonder if. DMC comes in a metallic- the young lady at church is a little bit older and might like a metallic friendship bracelet. Guess I will have to check that out.
We have a little over 12 hours before the snow is supposed to start. For CJ- who is also in the path of this storm- stay safe!! BBL Ginny

All of you that are in the path of the storm please stay safe. Ginny, I've never seen DMC in metallic. They do have a huge selection of that at walmart and I was looking at it the other day. They do have metallic in #3,, #5 and #10 and it would be easy to crochet and make those bracelets. You'd probably have to use a few strands of that too to get a bracelet thick enough. Do you know how long you made the chains so that after braided they would fit the wrist? I'm waiting for my phone to charge. I have to call the cable company when it's charged. I have internet and phone thru them and this month they raised the price by over $30 so I have to see if there's something they can do to help with that or otherwise I'll cancel the phone. We don't have much of a choice in internet...just them and Hughes net and I've heard many bad things about them so don't want to have to get them if I don't have to.I rarely talk on the phone and have a tracfone for emergencies. I might try Magic Jack. I know I'm anticipating but I'm sure they'll tell me that they will only take off $15 if I d/c the phone even though on the bill it says phone is $19.99month. Shouldn't anticipate. I guess I should be happy that they left my charge the same for the last three years. Next month i'm cancelling tv which is thru another company.I don't know what dh will do with his time. I got the tv to keep him occupied. He does watch Fox News a lot. I guess he'll watch youtube videos. In the summer I'll take him to the parks everyday. Get him some exercise

Hi everyone, I did a lot of knitting over the weekend and listened to an audio book. This morning when I was getting Devon ready for school I fell in the kitchen and banged my upper right arm on the counter top on the way down. My upper right arm has a huge bruise and has swollen quite a lot. I couldn't get myself up and DGD couldn't get me up so she called 911 I didn't break anything but I am going to be very stiff and sore for awhile. I have been putting an ice pack on my arm to get the swelling down. I don't think I will be doing any knitting for awhile. Now I am off to put the ice pack on again.
Have a great day.

Hello Crafters
Meg - I'm sorry to hear about your fall and glad your injuries weren't anymore serious. Hope your arm will be better soon I'm glad you have your books to listen to since you can't do any crafting right now.
Ruth - I hope you can get things worked out with your phone bill. It's terrible how much we are charged for our phones, TV and Internet. Those bills make up the majority of my month expenses!!
Ginny - We're supposed to get about 6 inches or so of snow. I went out today to get groceries in case the next few days are bad - people get crazy around here when it's going to snow LOL. The store was very busy, but I made out O.K. and was back home by 11:00 A.M. I can only imagine what it will be like at the grocery store tonight!
Your bracelet sounds nice, I'm glad you found one to make that you like. I have seen DMC Metallic Embroidery thread, but it's on a spool, not a skein, and it was kind of thin so I'm not sure if it will work for you. I hope the storm isn't too bad for you.
Phyl - Hope you are doing well.
I didn't get any crafting done today, just busy with the shopping this morning and other things around the house. I guess I'm ready for the storm tomorrow, and glad I don't have to worry about going out.
Take care everyone!

When I called I talked to a customer service person who said she would look up promotions and see if there was anything she could do. Came back and said there was nothing. I have internet and phone with them so I told her that in that case I'd keep the internet for now but would have to cancel phone so she transferred me to the cancellation dept where I explained the situation again. So that young woman said instead of cancelling your phone how about we just don't charge you for it. I said fine and all was taken care of. These and tv companies raise the rates every year but usually if you call them they'll lower it again. Last year the tv company lowered my bill significantly. Next month I'll be calling them and playing this game all over again with them.

Good evening! Meg, will keep you in prayer for a quick recovery! I am so glad that you did not break anything, although a bruise can hurt like crazy. Take care.....and I am glad that your nook is fixed...so you can still listen to your books.
CJ- stay safe! I am just getting to the news now, and am unsure if you will get the storm at the same time as me. 6 inches of snow in your area is a lot- and I do not think your local jurisdictions have the huge snow plows (cause you so not usuallly need them!). Stay safe....stay home and work on that Irish chain!
Ruth from a short (and I mean short) Internet search, yes DMC is available in metallic colors (in the traditional tiny skeins). So just to go over it all again......I am taking two, six strand lengths of DMC, and using a g sized hook, and chaining stitch crochetting. I will do that in 3 different colors- and then take the 3 chains and make a braid. The bracelet will be closed with a loop and a button. I am still figuring out the lengths necessary- but my initial thought is I am using a 30 inch piece length of DMC (remember two, 6 strand lengths, both 30 inches) to make a chain. Will try that and see if that makes a long enough chain to make a braided bracelet.
I got a brain storm.....becasue it's to easy I will make my little military daughter 2 bracelets- one in school colors, and the other (using metallic thread if available) in Red, white and blue and I will see if I can get a flag button for the closure.
School is closed tomorrow. (Yay!). I pray that we keep our power....and for the safety of my family and others. I will post when I can! The snow starts around midnight. Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad to hear that they've already closed the school. Now you can relax and know you won't have to go anywhere tomorrow.I'll pray too that your power stays on. I didn't look at the DMC when I was at walmart, just noticed that they had a lot and at a good price. I did see the metallic in the #10 there but didn't check the DMC colors because I wasn't really planning on getting any. I think the red, white and blue will be great for your dd and the school colors also.A flag button would be so great with the red, white and blue so I hope you can find some easily. So now I may have to look again next time I go to walmart because I do think metallic bracelets would go over very well with the grandchildren. Probably even my dd might like to have one ...or 3 or 4 I still say you had a most brilliant idea to crochet chains and braid them esp with the floss, It will hold up when braided and be firmer than softer yarn which I was thinking of using for bracelets for the younger ones just to play with. Youngest dgd asked if I could make necklaces. I'm not going to because I don't think yarn around the neck of a small child is a very good idea.Yarn is just too strong. I guess I've just seen too many freak accidents or heard of them while working.

Ok so you will think I am obsessed with these bracelets.....a 40 inch piece of DMC (and then doubled- so it's 2, 40 inch pieces) is chain crochetted. Do that with two other colors- so you have 3 chains. Braid the 3 chains, and approximately a 7 inch braid will result. I still have to finish the ends and add a button- but the size is good. Ginny

No I don't think you're obsessed at all. Just interested and enjoying what you're doing. Thanks for letting me know how long a piece of floss you used. Since I was planning on making bracelets I looked up measurements for wrists. It said a 5 year old has a 6 inch wrist. Well I don't believe that because my wrist is 6 inches. A 7 inch length for an adult I think would be perfect.
And if anyone is obsessed it's me. Look at all the times I whined about that shawl I was making and all the times I talked about the tea light holders. BTW, I made another this evening using 4 fewer double crochets into the circle and it came out perfect. I was going to make more but ended up talking to my cousin Becky's neice She was telling me about all the albums and paperwork she picked up at Becky's house..Becky is my cousin that died last month. Her neice also sent me some pics in email from those albums because she didn't know who the people were in them because they were from our side of the family and this neice is from Becky's dad's side but she's very interested in the whole family.

Good morning!
Ruth, glad you were able to tweak the tea light pattern to make it just perfect. Are you still making sets of tea lights as gifts ? You had also ordered a bunch of flame less tea lights, how did those work out? It's really nice that Becky's niece is working through the family pictures, and that it's so easy to share them electronically. That makes things so much easier! What a lovely way to stay in touch with family and also help heal from Beckys loss.
I send you 2 pics of the bracelet.... just so you would have clarity on what I did.
CJ, thinking of you as I believe that the storm has left your area. Hope you are safe and able to have a peaceful day..
Snowing here......and the winds are picking up. Got a cat on my lap, and he does not seem at all interested in moving! Not a bad way to start a day. Ginny
