Thanks again Phyl. I love going to craft shows but haven't been to one in a very long time. It was back when I was still working I think so that was over 15 years ago.
Yes I'll try my machine on thicker fabric "sandwiches" and see how it works.
I started the infinity scarf for my dd's bday present last night and it's almost done. It's an easy pattern but you'd never know it from looking at the finished product. I made this same one for my ddil last year. I have a list of things I want to get done today so I'm not sure if I'll start the fingerless gloves today or not. ON the infinity scarf it didn't say how much yarn you needed. I had one skein of REd Heart designer sport as the pattern calls for sport weight yarn. It's a nice spring color but this yarn is discontinued so I know I couldn't get more. I never did hear back afterI emailed the pattern designer but it's going to be plenty of yarn.
Ginny, I'm so glad you emailed Meg and that she is ok. I'll have to email her just to let her know I'm thinking of her.
I found out last evening that one of the two women who were the leaders at Caps for Kids when I went there has died. She was such a nice woman. She had knitted over 10,000 hats for the organization over the years. I have no clue how many I made. I never kept track but it's not even close to what she made. She knitted using the "other" method... I forget what you call that.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well and enjoying your weekend Phyl - Glad you were able to go to the craft show. I can't wait to go to the quilt shows that are coming up in my area over the next few months. Here are a few links to check out the Solstice Blocks: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/ - You have to scroll way down the page near the bottom to see pictures of the current block www.ilovetomakequilts.com/182-day-solstice-challenge-blocks.html - This page has all the block patterns shown and if you click on each specific block pattern, then it takes you to the page where all the pictures of that block are. The thing that has been nice about this project is that she gives you pictures of layouts for a quilt using just the one block each week. So those are great ideas for other quilts. Ginny - Hope you working on some crafts this weekend, maybe your bracelets? Ruth - Hope you are enjoying working on the new infinity scarf. I get Herschernerr's catalogs every so often and they do have nice things. That women who knitted over 10,000 hats was to be commended, I'm sure it gave her a lot of happiness to make those hats. I admire people who are doing for others. Meg - Hope your arm is continuing to heal. I wasn't motivated to work on any quilting or crafting today, which is too bad because I had a whole day with nothing planned. But I hope I'll be more in the mood tomorrow since I'd like to finish those 3 blocks. Take care everyone.

Hello everyone, Sorry I have been missing so much this week. My arm is still bruide from the shoulder to my wrist. What has happened the bruise travels at first it was just my upper arm then it reached my elbow and now my wrist. I saw my Dr. yesterday when I went to get my iron infusion, She is sending me to PT to try and improve my balance. I will also talk to the therapist about a walker. My Dr. said she would sign for me to have one. So I start PT on Monday. I have been sleepy a lot recently but I have been reading and I can knit so I can keep busy.
Ginny, are you still snow bound? We have had some lovely weather here but today has been overcast and it is cooler. All the trees are flowering and there is something in the air that I am allergic to. Devin missed a couple of days off school because he was coughing and sneezing. Thank you for your e-mail.
I will check back later and catch up with you all. I will probably knit this afternoon and listen to my Nook. Have a great day.

Meg, great to see you. I hope the PT will help
Beautiful day here. It's 78 degrees here right now.
Scarf is done and I'm going to start on the fingerless gloves. They have a "faux" cable which they say is just a chain. I haven't read the instructions for that part yet so we'll see how that works. I want to make a few different ones. I'm feeling what some people used to refer to as "washed out" today. Just a little fatigued so that's why I haven't finish the vacuuming. Dh did the whole downstairs yesterday.I really need to wrap the bday presents for dgd and ddil though. I want to have them all packed and ready to mail on Monday.
Have a great day everyone and I hope the snow is gone and driving is good for Ginny, CJ, and Phyl

A busy day here......a friend told me to check out the Missouri star quilting video - called a Sweet treats quilt. It uses a paper pattern to make perfectly even quilt blocks. I might give it a try. Will see if I can bring a link over so you can check it out if you like Ginny

Hello everyone, I didn't get anything done today and Devin is trying to talk me into taking him to church in the morning and I don't think I will be going as I keep sneezing. I did intend to knit today but I didn't get any done but there is always tomorrow.
Ruth you amaze me you seem to get so much done. The vacuum cleaner is not going anywhere so you can finish tomorrow.
Ginny, I hope you have seen the end of the snow for awhile. Having a paper parrern for cutting out your quilt pieces sounds like a good idea.
cj, Ji, hope you had a good day
I will catch up with you all tomorrow. sleep well

Good morning!
Meg- good to see you back- yes I know this is your second post. I hope that you can stop sneezing- do you have allergies? Very sweet that Devin wants to attend church! Not many kids do these days. You would be surprised how many kids now have never been in a church- ever.
Ruth, hope you got all your gifts wrapped and ready for mailing. You have been working on them so hard for awhile now. Yes, you can finish the vacuuming later on. Sounds like the new vacuum works well. Housekeeping is very patient. It always waits for you.
CJ- did you find the momentum to get any crafting done?
Hi to Phyl!
Heading to church now and then a little later to Joanns and Christmas tree shops with a friend.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I hope the PT helps you and that you don't get sick with a cold. I'm glad you've been able to do some reading and knitting done. Ginny - I like the MSQC tutorials, they are all using very easy to understand and follow. Good luck with the paper piecing, I've always had trouble with that. Phyl - I agree with you about Paper Piecing. I've tried it a few times, but then if I don't do it for awhile, it's like you have to learn it all over again. I'm glad you found the websites with the blocks for the Solstice Quilt. Ruth - Hope the fingerless gloves are coming along. I really admire the way you are always working on a project. I finished putting together the three weekly quilt blocks I'm working on. A few of these didn't go together as well as they have in the past. I think I need to find another way to cut my fabric. I always used to use the mat to measure, but recently I've started using the ruler to measure the fabric. I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off just to go back to using the mat. I also have a few of those June Taylor rulers with the slits in them at every 1/2 inch and maybe I should start using that ruler again. It just seems to me that measuring the fabric under a ruler should make it pretty accurate, but maybe my hand slips. Who knows, at least they are done for this week Take care everyone!

aftyernoon, ok I remembered what judy said on the sewing thread. she found a new stabilizer and likes it the best. IT IS CALLED SOFT AND STABLE.Judy makes a lot of purses so if she sasy it is good it is.this could be used on the quilting baskets. just type In the url quilting/soft and stable .com/ a lot of links will come up. Walmart, amazon , connecting thread, annies craft. I have not tried it myself yet.think it also makes the bag/baskets lighter.
ok cj I have always been taught not to use the markings on the mats as they are mass produced and the lines could be off. don doesn't understand that. being a wood worker he thinks measures are measures. yes if your fabric slips or the ruler just a little the cuttings will be off. a little trick is to put your ruler on the fabric and the lay something just barely next to it to help keep that side from moving. then cut the fabric.(Leave enough room for just the cutter.not saying it solves the problem does help. a quilter dh made some pixie glass squares for us. he takes his wood bruning tool and put little dots In it. this is suppose to keep the fabric from slipping. I bought some. have not tried them yet.phyl

Phyl, thanks once again. That sounds like it would be prefect for the job and I'm going to look up bags and purses too. i can always make those for my grands or even myself. I love tote bags. CJ, thank you but you are always working on a project too.You have tons of quilt blocks picked out to make ..all those square of the months you're involved in make for a lot of work. Great that you've been working on your squares today but there's nothing wrong with taking a day off. If you are forcing yourself to do something it's no longer fun so take breaks. I hate when I have a deadline so now I don't really set any. If the bday things are late it just makes for another opening gift party for the kids. These fingerless gloves are so easy now that I figured out what stitch to use. They are alternating rows of slip stitch and dc using the back loop. I've never used the back look of a slip stitch before so it took me awhile to figure out which one that meant. Here's the link for the spring cowl.. it's super easy www.5littlemonsters.com/2015/03/spring-scarf-free-crochet-pattern.htmlAnd here's the one for the gloves crochetdreamz.blogspot.com/2012/09/adeline-fingerless-mitts-or-arm-warmers.html#.WM8HzvkrK02Just remembered yesterday that on the 21st my dgd will find out if boy or girl so then I can pick some things to make for her too.Youngest dgd's bday is also in Aug so the little shawl for her will be made before that also.

Hello everyone, I have had a very lazy Sunday and didn't get to church. I have done some reading and that is about all. Tomorrow I will go to PT and see how that goes.
Ginny, Devin usually likes going to church. We used to have a lot of children at Sunday School at my church and now Devin is often the only one which is very sad. Of course everyone is very nice to him and he gets lots of attention. I don't know why kids are not attending church they must be going somewhere.
You all seem to be very busy with your project which I hope will inspire me to get busy.
I wish you all a good evening.

Good evening!
Meg, let's hope that physical therapy works well for you! Give it a try.....many have been helped by it before. I know that my mom got some good tips from it when she had PT. Is your bruising fading and are you more comfortable? ITs a shame that so many have dropped out of Sunday school. Unfortunately I believe that most kids are not going to church or Sunday school at all. It is not a priority for their parents to have them attend.
Ruth- how exciting that your DGD will soon know the gender of her baby! Is this your first "great" grandchild? Congrats on figuring out the fingerless gloves pattern....yes it feels awkward at first going into the back loop only but it makes a huge difference in appearance. Thanks for the links for the gloves and the cowl.!
Phyl-soft and stable sounds like a good product- I will have to remember that if I ever make a tote and need a product like that. It appears to be sold all over....great to know that, thanks! And I always used the mat to measure.....that is how I was taught. (But she was not an expert at all!!)
CJ- you just keep on sewing away.....wow the progress you make is incredible! Guess you got your crafting momentum back. The friend who recommended the cake mix does a lot of paper piecing. THanks for your input on it.... I still might give it a try.
Got to Christmas tree shops and Joanns. At Joanns I got some silk flowers to refresh a spring wreath, some metallic DMC and buttons for the friendship bracelets. Let's see how they turn out! Joanns has quite an assortment of DMC- a bit overwhelming.
Hard to believe tomorrow is another week. Good night Ginny

Meg, it really is sad that not many children attend church anymore. If they do go to Sunday School it's a lot of times because the parent or parents send them on the church bus just to get the children out of the house so they, the parents can sleep in.
Ginny, this will be the third great grandchild. The other two are both boys and are 5 months and the other 6 months so everyone is hoping this one is a girl but I'm sure everyone will be fine with it being a boy also if that's the case.
Yes CJ does a great deal of sewing and she sure sticks with it.You can really tell she loves making quilts.
Also Ginny, I checked walmart the ohter day and, as I mentioned before they had a LOT of floss so this time I checked more closely and no metallic. It took me forever to look thru it all.I'm glad you found your buttons. I wish we still had a Joanne's here.
These particular fingerless gloves are made as a rectangle and I found myself having the problem Meg mentioned...adding or subtracting stitches on the edges. I really need to count on at least every other row because today I had to frog several times. And the pattern designer said it would take two hours to make a pair. Well that sure didn't happen and I usually am a pretty fast crocheter. Also she said do 16 rows for the width which would then be 7 inches. Well I had to do 26 rows to get 7 inches and I did use the correct hook and the weight yarn that she mentioned. It's wool ease though and I noticed when doing those HP scarves that the wool ease is not as think and most worsted weight yarn. Doesn't matter though. You just need to keep going till you get 7 inches so that it will fit your hand when folded and seamed.
Herrschner sent me another email today, this time free shipping if I buy over $35 worth. Well even though there are some yarns I would like to have and more colors in some I have, I deleted the email. I need to use the yarn I have up before I get anymore. I think I'll make that a rule. I need to use a skein of yarn before I buy another. I can only buy the number ofskeins that I've used up. This crochet thread is going to last me a couple lifetimes.I'd better teach my grands how to crochet or something with it so that when they inherit it they've be able to use it. I have already taught them to crochet but only basic flat things like scarves. Of course there's always youtube.
