CJ, It sounds like at the end of the year you will be well stocked with blocks. You can make a lot of great quilt tops.
Phyl,I'm glad to hear your're feeling better and that you will still be able to have your dgs' birthday dinner with him next week instead of having to miss it tomorrow
Ginny, I hope all went well at the ophthalmologist today. You asked about my trip. Well as you know I kind of like to just sit right here so I'm not all that excited about it especially the driving but I'll be glad to see my ds and ddil and children.
The weather has cleared so we will probably go out tomorrow. I'll do my tax on Friday.

HI GIRLS, I am even so much better today. some coughing this am.we probably could have had Kyle come over tonight. nah.... better to wait a week.
I did got to my playpen.got something cut out for Tuesday's sew day.then had a idea well maybe I should have forgotten this idea. I am cutting some baby fabrics scraps into 2 and also 2 and one -half inch squares . this will take awhile.
will probably be one of those projects " WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING PROJECTS." lol oh well no hurry.not sure yet how I would I put Them together.
OH well just something down the road for sew day.
yep I am better if I am doing cutting.
maybe tomorrow we will go get my machine. it is fixed. a new pedal and the bobbin hook was broken. 149.85. not bad considering Steve charges 99.99 for cleaning and checking. phyl

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad you are starting to feel better. Good luck with cutting the squares - I've done a few projects like that one Hope the machine worked well when you get it back. Ruth - Hope you were able to get out today to get your shopping done. Ginny - Thinking of you and hoping you are taking care of yourself. It's sunny here today, but windy and cold. I'm happy to have a "winter" day before spring gets here. We tend to have a very short spring anymore and it just gets hot very quickly. I went out and took care of all my financial business today, had to go in three different places. But it's a relief to have that done and now I won't have to worry about it for several months. I try to keep my accounts active so I can avoid the inactivity fee I've been charged a few times. It's really irritating that a bank/credit union has your money and then they charge you for leaving it in there and not taking it out!!! Now I just have a few more personal business papers to get in order and I should be good for awhile. No crafting for me today, but hopefully I can get started on my tumbler block. I figure I can sew together the colors that I have enough blocks of so far and then have them ready to add when I get the other blocks. Take care everyone!

Phyl, it's good to see you and hear that you're feeling even better. It's also great that you got things ready for next week's sit and sew. Now you're all set. Yes those sound like really small blocks so it will sure take some time to not only cut them all out but then to sew them back together into blocks.
It's a beautiful day today so we went out. You would think we were buying food for the whole town. Went to Walmart and the Kroger by another name store.I had a bunch of coupons they sent me in the mail, some for free items. It's good to be back home though. We have everything put away and now just have to clean up the kitchen.
One of the young women in the one crochet group on FB designs a lot of patterns which she then puts in the files on there. Most are really nice and ones that young people would like. I made one yesterday..just need to do a couple finishing touches. I keep getting sidetracked from the things I need to get done for the upcoming birthdays including the afgan but eventually ,as always, it will get done.

CJ, it sounds like you had a very busy day. I'm fortunate in that my banks don't charge an inactivity fee for those that are seniors. Maybe your bank/credit union does the same but hasn't realized you are over 55. Our bank said they were going to start some kind of fee, can't remember what it was but told me that I was ok because I'm a senior but on dh's said that he only was exempted from the fee because he has direct deposit. Guess they didn't read his birthdate. We're a long way from spring here and we,too, usually have a very short spring if any. It goes right from very cold to hot.

CJ- glad you got your financial matters straightened out. And yes itโs amazing how banks/ financial institutions charge fees even when they have your money! What an absurd concept , because you did not make the bank work for you or help you, they charge fees. Anyway glad you took care of that. Now you can stay home tomorrow and work on that quilt.
Phyl, glad you are feeling better.
BB in a little bit. He is almost done with my taxes.
We did get to the cemetery today. Dh is in a nice spot on a hill. Ginny

Phyl - that is not bad at all to get your machine repaired, and I bet you will be so glad to get it home. Keep taking care of yourself to make sure this upper respiratory thing really goes away. Glad you had two quiet days to help rest up.
Sue, thanks for your kind condolences. We are looking forward to hearing from you whenever you can join us.
Ruth, is the cross afghan supposed to be a gift - even perhaps a Christmas gift for next year? I am sure that Ds and his wife will love it whenever they get it. What was the pattern you tried from the FB group- was it another hat?
Taxes are done- will be getting a little bit back. Eye doctor visit went well. Looks like my eye is ok and no problems with a torn or detached retina. I go back in 3 weeks to get it checked again. A very thorough exam for sure.
Get my hair done tomorrow. Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny, I didn't realize that you thought you might have a detached retina. I'm sure glad you don't.
Yes the Cross afgan is supposed to be a birthday gift for ddil and ds. His birthday is in Nov but her's is in March and I hope to have it done sometime in March.
I kind of messed up my windows laptop. Somehow I closed something in it and there's a huge crack in the screen. It's what I'm on right now so it seems to be working except that it has a touch screen which no longer works. This is the laptop that I had problems with before which necessitated me buying the Chromebook however it seems to have healed itself for now anyway. It is almost 5 years old and I haven't treated the poor thing well. Last year it was the touchpad that I had the problem with but now I have to use that. DS turned it off for me while he was here to stop the jumping around and erasing of the letters but luckily I figured out how to turn it off and on so last night I was able to turn it on and it seems to be working ok now

Ruth, what I experienced is posterior vitreous detachment - 3 weeks ago. Had not idea what the dickens what was going on (it took place on a Saturday) and felt blessed that Monday of that week I was able to get into see a doctor for the diagnosis. She suggested I go for a follow up with the retina specialist, which is what I did Wednesday. In some rare cases, a torn or detached retina takes place later, with the peak time for that being at 3 weeks (last Wednesday). So in an abundance of caution, I will go back for a follow up visit, Normally any retina complications take place within the first 6 weeks and after that life returns to normal. The strange thing is that the ophthalmologist told me that 70% of the population gets this? Huh? Wonder why I had never heard of this before. So now everyone has had their ophthalmology lesson for the day. So very sorry about what happened to your laptop! Sounds like you have some functionality of it, and at least the Chromebook is a good backup. Gosh we have become so dependent on these electronic devices and they have become such a huge part of our lives. Hope that you can work around any issues you have without any further problems. The one positive thing I can say is that none of these electronics last forever anyway, and Microsoft being the financial giant that it is, will eventually make that laptop obsolete (which I find so frustrating!). I know you are a wizard with a crochet hook- and cannot wait till you get started on the afghan. I bet you enjoy the daily challenge of a new hat and a new pattern, plus being able to use up different colors of yarn. The afghan will be different for you- one long project which I suspect you will fly though once you get started. Got our taxes done last night, which were, thankfully, not a disaster. We had this appointment for weeks, so I kept it- I did not want to find out that I was missing any information and then at the last minute have to scramble trying to muddle through Dhโs paperwork. Hair appointment this am. Then will stop in to see Dd#2 Ginny

Good afternoon to all. Ginny, I've never heard of that condition so was surprised to hear that 90% of the older population experiences this. Of course I had to look it up to see all the particulars. Very interesting condition. I'm so glad your's didn't result in complications and when it comes to eyesight, yes definitely do the followup. ' It's been a beautiful day here weatherwise until the wind picked up. That's always a sign that there's a weather change coming. I wish it could stay like it was early today. Last night I worked on the eyeglass cases again. I knew that I had done something wrong and found out what it was. It's a pattern from the Red Heart site and they don't tell you to not start in the same stitch as the chain. Most other patterns do give you that info now. So when I kept getting an extra stitch I knew that must be the problem and afroggin I went. I finished one but although I used a smaller hook than they called for it turned out way too wide in my opinion so I started another. And I thought about my taxes today.....does that count for working on them? Well I might get to them yet We'll see what happens.

came home and have been in my playpen.cutting out sqaures and rectangles.boy this takes time. hard part is what fabric do I want to use for this or that? the piece when done is 6.8.it comes out as a boat.the book is from Missouri Star. baby book with so many patterns in it.they had it as a daily special not to long ago.
good thing I am not in a hurry.
tomorrow our guild is having a charity sew day at the local quilt shop.they will make pillow slips.having a pot luck. sounds fun. I am not going. think staying away from a group for a couple more days is a good thing.

Hello Crafters Ruth - Thanks for the info on seniors not being charged inactivity fees. I'll have to look into that. Thinking about anything should count as doing something Ginny - Hope your eye will continue to be alright. I'm glad you were able to get your taxes done, one thing off your mind. Phyl - I'm glad you are doing better. Good luck with that quilt project. Sorry you have to miss the sew-in tomorrow. Meg and Sue - Hope you are well. It was a pretty nice day here, but still a bit cool. I was happy not to have to go anywhere. I pretty much accomplished nothing today Good thing I'm retired with no obligations Take care everyone!

Phyl, sometimes these illnesses linger. I think you're smart to stay home
CJ, I'm glad you have already taken care of everything so that you could just stay home and relax. I'm happy too, to be retired
Well I did it. I did my tax. Unlike you guys though I'm not getting anything back. As usual I owe and the same amount for the last few years. I don't know where this tax lowering we hear about on tv is. I sure haven't seen it.I'm glad to have that out of the way, check off my list, and off my mind. This is the first time in my life that I've had it done this early

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today - Happy Leap Day! Ruth - I'm glad for you that you got your taxes done and earlier than you have before. I know that's a good feeling. I have paid more the last 2 years too, so I'm not seeing where this was any kind of tax break for me either. It was cold and windy here today, but sunny. I only had to go outside to get the mail and put out some sunflower seeds for the birds. I think I'm going to stop putting out the seed by June and not do it all summer and then consider if I want to start again in the fall. I love to see the birds, but I'm kind of irritated with the mix (crows and pigeons) I get and the droppings I get on my cars. I also have lots of bird feathers out in the yard where I'm guessing a bird was attacked. I'll see how I feel after summer is over. I was going to wait until tomorrow to find out what the color for March is for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, but I went ahead and looked and it's "teal". I was checking my fabrics and looking for teals and aquamarines and I don't have that many of them. I'm hoping I can find enough to cut my blocks for March. I don't mind using different fabrics for the hourglass blocks, but I hope to have enough of the main color for the bowtie blocks. Hope everyone is having a good day and getting some crafting done. Take care

yes it's definitely a great feeling to have the taxes done. Next year I'll have to remember how good it actually was.
CJ, Yes it doesn't seem like most people would have teal in their fabric stashes. It's a pretty color and I really like it but it's not something that everyone has lying around. Almost every summer I have to give up on feeding the hummingbirds. I figure out that I need to put vaseline on the hanger to keep the ants away but then the bees and yellow jackets come and try to attack the hummers. I stopped putting out bird seed for the other birds this winter. They do make a mess,
I did get some crafting done. I made a case of my cell phone. I don't want the glass on it to get broken,Then I sewed the button on and made the chain for the over the book cover pen holder for one of the dgds. I haven't done that with the other one yet though. I guess this even ing I might make or at least start to make the hats that one of the dgds here asked for.My second eyeglass case turned out good so I have one more of those to make and the one that turned out too large I'll use myself for something.
It was a nice day here. Almost 50 or it may have actually hit 50 but there's wind and it's supposed to snow a lot starting tonight.
I have a chicken in the oven for dinner and it's smelling pretty good. I have to go put in the sweet potatoes that I want to bake. See you all later.
