DotRen, it is interesting how much outrage and judgement the religious right can muster up towards women who are struggling with a painful and personal decision in their private lives, and yet children locked in cages, crying and terrified is perfectly ok with these loving Christian phonies. Oh, did I say phonies? I meant Christians.
What happen to the children? Sold for sex slaves, free labor?
Where are they? Why isn't the church asking the same question? Or, the state? Do they know? Do they care?
Out of sight, out of mind?
Where are the children? Oh, that's right. They are no longer a glob of cells in a woman's body so who cares?

I agree that it is appalling what has been done to these children, but it's not really accurate to portray Christians as a whole as not caring and doing nothing. I'm United Methodist, and United Methodist Women have taken this on as a campaign to end family detention. We are just one group among many, and yes it's an uphill battle but we're fighting it, and we're not fighting it alone. So yes, there are a lot of hypocrites who cry for the rights of the unborn while ignoring the rights of these children who are truly in need; but, it is NOT Christians as a whole. And while it is not my place to judge, I would say it is not Christians at all as I can't imagine a true Christian who would find this acceptable. And I count some of my evangelical friends in that group who have been protesting and yes even marching in the streets to draw attention to this atrocity and the fact that it must end.
It's easy to blame "Christians" or "Evangelicals" but we should keep in mind that broad generalizations are usually never accurate. It would be wrong to say that all atheists act or believe a certain way, that all gay people act or believe a certain way, that all heterosexuals act or believe a certain way, or that all Democrats or Republicans act or believe a certain way. You get my point. Some people do some very wrong, terrible things. But branding everyone who is Christian with the same brush is going overboard and is just not accurate.
I'm sure no offense is intended when I read remarks generalizing Christians, but nevertheless such generalizations are a slap at everything I believe. I believe it with my whole heart. I am proud to be a Christian. Just as I am proud to call each of you my friend. Sorry, I don't mean to get controversial but I do feel offended each time I read that generalization, and because I consider you each to be my friend I think it's most honest to say so rather than to hold it in. Friends may not always agree, but they do always listen and accept each other as they are.

Joyce, I'm sorry. It was unkind of me to punt it like that.
I assumed people on here would know I was not talking about them. I am talking about Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, political Christians who see trump as a gift from God. As a way to hurt and judge others and mix religion with the government.
I guess every time I go there I have to point that out. Or, just not go there is probably a better idea.
Again, I apologize if you took it personally. I will delete the post. It was not my intention to offend you or anyone else.
Using people and their faith or beliefs to control others, to take over governments, to turn people against each other for evil purposes I find vile and despicable.
Even though that was not my intention it is what I did myself.
So sorry.

No worries, Pat. I just felt like it was best to let you know how it made me feel. I didn't think you meant it to be offensive, but it feels that way to me when I read it. But all is good. We are still pals, and I'm very glad you're my friend.

Huff Post.....President Donald Trump suggested during an interview on Fox News Wednesday that many people with mild coronavirus symptoms could still go to work and get better. This goes against advice from medical professionals around the world who say that infected individuals should remain in isolation.
“A lot of people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor, they don’t even call a doctor. You never hear about those people,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “So you can’t put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and or virus. So you just can’t do that. So, if you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work. Some of them go to work, but they get better.”
This is the genius in the WH....:-(

Someone please put some duct tape over this idiot's mouth! I'll furnish the duct tape if needed. Speaking of the Coronavirus another Princess cruise ship is being held out at sea. This is not boding well for my trip to Alaska, which by the way, is going to be on Princess. Our trip is not until the beginning of June, but that is getting here fast. I wanted to go ahead and also book a New England/Canada cruise for this fall (trying to make up for lost time ), but DH says we should hold off to see what happens with this virus first. I know that sounds totally selfish and self-absorbed. I feel guilty for even thinking about minor things like trips when it could be such a very serious threat. The unknown is always so hard to deal with. I totally ignore any comments about it from this administration, because I have zero faith in them. I do listen to the medical experts who pretty much seem to be saying that it is likely to get worse before it gets better, it's going to take awhile, and that it is not time to panic yet but to be prepared. I'm reading posts on FB about store shelves being emptied of sanitizers, etc. That sounds like over reaction to me, but then maybe I'll be wishing I'd followed the crowd further down the line. Are any of you taking any special precautions?

We just stocked up on enough cold meds, paper products, drinking water, soups, electrolyte drinks, enough daily maintenance meds we are one, etc. ...certainly enough not to be overboard, but enough to get thru a few weeks of quarantine if needed. Since Jason is high risk, we would be going to hospital with him or him with us. Hopefully, it won't be any worse than being quarantined at home for us to manage. Hard to plan when one doesn't really know how all this is going to play out. Living in a rural area, hospitals & clinics will be over run, I'm sure. No trips planned, but that is normal for us. So, altho, I'm worried, I'm trying to prepare & hope for the best but plan for the worst if possible. I don't know! Just tired of worrying. SIGH!
I see EW has dropped out. She is one smart lady & very organized & I hope her talents are put to good use for whoever she chooses to endorse.

I was just thinking of Luanne from here. Didn't she say her & DH were going to meet DD in San Franscisco & then go to Hawaii. I couldn't remember if she they were flying or taking a cruise ship . Sounds like the same time line that this current ship is detained off of San Franscisco. Sure hope she & her family are not on it.

Joyce, we always need hopes & dreams, so keep dreaming & hoping for your trips. :-) My sister & her DH went on a trip to New England & Nova Scotia & they really like it. They especially liked Nova Scotia.

Sounds like the same time line that this current ship is detained off of San Franscisco. Sure hope she & her family are not on it. That's right! I'm not sure how they were traveling either, but I really hope they are not caught up in this. It will be good when we can hear from her. Linda, trip plans are frivolous but over the 7+ years we cared for my mom and dad if I learned anything at all it was that life can change completely in the blink of an eye. If you truly want to do something, don't put it off. I don't regret even one moment of that time, but I don't want to waste the good years we have left. DH is 81, and I'm always mindful of the fact that our window of being able to go and do things together could be short. But, life is good here too so if the trips never come to pass I have no complaints. I think you're wise to be prepared especially with the concerns about Jason. I've got food on hand that we could manage for a couple of weeks, but that's not unusual for me. Our medications generally come in a 90-day supply at a time. So if it came to a quarantine I think we'd be ok. Just going to hope for the best, but be ready to accept the worst.
