Phyl- yes cell phones are a good thing to clean....they are perhaps the dirtiest things we use and they go right to our faces. What I read on CDC’s web site was to wipe door handles and knobs, and horizontal surfaces that are frequently used. I picked up some cleaning supplies today and will wipe down the appropriate surfaces tomorrow. Including my phone. Think that is a great idea to get help picking out the background color to work with that jelly roll. What are you making with that?? If you do not finish cleaning tomorrow try not to sweat it. You are still getting over being sick.
CJ- still a good thing that you are stocked up for yourself and can last awhile without going out if you do not have to. It sure does seem as though the simple act of washing hands is a real life saver. So glad you were able to find 6 different aqua fabrics (my mistake, I thought it was teal!) for the surprise block of the month. Such a cool project- next year I hope to get into something like that.
Made a bunch of phone calls and am making headway through the financial maze. Not too many big decisions to make, thankfully. I just want to get this all done- just do not like having these kind of errands hanging over my head. I did get our taxes finalized this am. One thing accomplished.
Off to watch Poldark. Ginny

Nearly 5pm here now. I've been keeping busy
Ginny, I'm glad your children are able to talk with you about their feelings on their loss of their dad. Talking with each other is a good way to come to terms with it. Yes it's good to be prepared because of this virus. It most likely will turn out to have been a lot of hysteria for nothing but in the even that it's not we do need to be ready in case they end up shuting things down or whatever they have in mind to keep it from spreading.
CJ, I, too, thought your color for this month was teal. I like aqua too though. I may be a little confused but are you in two different monthy projects? Your weather and the trees, etc starting to bloom has me very envious. It's to be warm this weekend but cold weather will be back for us.
Phyl, you're right about cell phones. I rarely use mine. In fact I rarely use my regular phone either but both would be a good thing to wipe down with a little bleach water. Doesn't take much bleach to kill a lot of viruses. Don't work too hard on your cleaning and wear yourself out.
Earlier I helped dh take old line off some of his fishing reels and put new on but after we had the first two done he found that the line he was using wasn't strong at all and snapped when he pulled on it. Too bad he didn't test before we put it on the two reels. He was trying to save money by buying this cheapie line and ended up that that money was down the drain because how he just has to buy new and better line. I keep telling him that you get what you pay for but he's all for saving. You don't save if you just have to throw the cheap thing away or have to use twice as much. Luckily, too, the reels weren't on the fishing poles and a tangled mess. We did that untangling a few months back.

Oh and meant to say that our local grocery store had a banner over their weekly ad saying that "due to the increased demand for sanitation and cold and flu preparations we are limiting purchases of these products to five per customer"

The color for March is teal, but I didn't have enough teal fabrics so I'm using aqua instead. Sorry for the confusion

Morning All!!
CJ- well I really do not understand the difference between teal and aqua anyway....so I guess now thinking about it, teal is a stronger color (is the word more saturated?) and aqua a lighter color? Funny story about teal or aqua or whatever you want to call it. Its was my mom’s favorite color. Her carpet was teal. Her walls were a pale aqua. Her kitchen countertops were teal. A bit of color overload for sure. So I had the kitchen painted a soft grey (the cabinets were white already), Dh and I tore out the dreaded teal carpet and painted the walls an off white. As a matter of fact the only room that did not get that off white was my former bedroom which I convinced to paint a lovely shade of butter yellow - in memory of the little girl who used to have her room that color. So I think aqua and teal are great substitutes for each other and I am glad that you had some aqua fabric there to use! As far as it goes, aqua is more of a spring color anyway. Do you have any spring bulbs on your property? If so, I bet they are up and possibly starting to show blooms. I have some tiny crocuses up and blooming, and the daffodils are up along with the hyacinth.
Ruth- plus fishing line actually degrades over time. Ds used to be quite an avid fisherman - think he caught every fish in this county at least once- and I do remember either him or Dh telling me that this stuff just does not last forever and you have to put on new line after awhile. Ds is at work - otherwise I could ask him his recommendation for the best fishing line (without spending a fortune). By now you and Dh have probably gotten new line anyway. Not sure that they are limiting quantities of disinfectant here yet. I suppose I should get a little bit more and today is the day I ought to get busy wiping down all surfaces. I know I am pretty good at doing that anyway- Guess it would be a good idea to wipe down television remotes also, knowing that they are something that is handled a lot. But seriously, 5 disinfectant items per customer should work for most folks and last a long time- right? (Unless you have a massive house with a huge number or people living in it).
Phyl- sounds like you will be cutting in class. Make sure you ask for help and that what you are doing looks the same as what the instructor shows you step by step. I guess you will also be doing some cutting at home, so take pictures with your cell phone of each step as it goes to make sure you have it right. Believe me I understand the concept of getting it wrong- been there done that when I did some BOM blocks last year. I had one block that I could not get right and wasted a lot of time and fabric. Take your time and don’t be afraid to ask for help. You will get it right.
Went to my friends husbands mom’s wake last night- small and I did not have to stay for too long. My friend and her husband have been wonderful with me- its the least I can do for them. Will attend the funeral later on today. For now, I have notified all the major financial entities (I think) and have appointments with them ready to move forward. Got lots of decisions to make, just am praying that I do not make any stupid ones. I can still hear Dh’s voice in the back of my head regarding what he thought we would be doing so I guess I will keep that counsel in mind when I make decisions. I got no crafting done yesterday- but my crafting was that my sister called to tell me about her crafting adventures. (She is such an odd person- sweet of her to call). Then my sister in law called- thankfully I was leaving to attend the viewing so the call was cut short. She called under the guise of seeing how I was doing and then spent the rest of the call telling me how sick she is (she has cancer) and how much that has changed her life. And of course to tell me how close she was with my Dh. So the call was not really meant for me, but for her to comfort herself. But that is just how she is.
Hope to get some down time today, but that is unlikely. Dd#2 and her Dh are coming over for dinner, so I am going to make a pot roast- thanks to the crockpot, its an easy meal. And I am watch 2 of the 3 grandkids this evening...DGD#1 has cheerleading practice and DD has a school board meeting. I might not make it back here today....which is why I am so chatty this morning.
Hi to Meg and Sue- we miss you both. Ginny

HI GIRLS,
this am I did get part of the down stairs cleaned up got the table in what use to be Margie's bedroom cleaned off.so now that room can be the Ever sewn machine sewing room .was before but sometimes I would bring it out to the other room. just move my brother over and use the same cabinet.
how I got into Trouble with mixing up the foot pedals is I let the cabinet get to cluttered. then the picked both pedals up and move them. then when I wanted to use my machines could not remember what pedal worked with what machines.wrong pedal in the brother is what made it go wacko.so now that pedal has brother marked on the bottom.
less learned is the pedal and the working of the bobbin case goes together. also do not put he wrong bobbin in the case. that can cause damage also.
ruth dad was a fisherman. we sure caught alot of bullheads and catfish in oak lake in Lincoln I use to go with him sometimes.
when we went to uncle Ralph's cabin in the summer months(every weekend)
dad and my uncles would do what they call set lines in the platte river. fun times.
today we went to best buy. Ryan helped get my new tablet set up. only had it since Christmas..
target to pick up a script. good thing I bought two bottles of hand sanitizer Sunday. they are out.even out of THE travel size ones. I did get two packs of handwipes.I have always like to carry a few in my purse..never know about public places. know what I mean?
I was gonna get a haircut. came out of target and the wind picked up and it was cold. so will wait a few days.I am a flat head or can be called washed and wear style.
very late birthday his bd was february 6. phyl

Since my dil told me that they all love the color teal I've looked at a lot of teal color yarn. There are just so many shades of it and some you would not even recognize as teal. Ginny, yes it does sound like your sil called in order to comfort herself not you. I have relatives like that also. I also have a friend from nursing school that loves to call and tell me all about herself and her family and never once says "oh by the way, how are you".And she can talk forever. Some people are just seriously self absorbed. My dd is the same.
Well Phyl, even if you do make some mistakes in the beginning you will get it eventually. Most of the time we can't be perfect when doing something the first time. Plus, some mistakes you might make might be noticed by only you. We are our own worst critics. That's what I tell the young women in the crochet groups when they post a picture and show a mistake that no one can see but them. Don't be hard on yourself just learn from your mistakes. If we were perfect the first time there would not be a word "practice" in our vocabulary.
CJ, I thought of you and your weather today when we had perfect weather. 55 degrees, very little wind. It was great. It was so great we went out to do errands. Walmart, band, post office and then decided to go to the grocery store where we found some great markdowns.
Ginny, I agree. If it's 5 of each item I would think that would be actually more than enough.Plus there hasn't been and probably will never be a case of coronavirus in this state. The radio station posted a message saying that there is a severe shortage of hand sanitizer and people would be lucky to find any. Well since they posted that I'm sure that NOW everyone will be trying to stock up on it.I'm not trying to downplay the risk of this virus but I do think they may be overestimating the possibility and the effects it will have. Yes I do feel bad for the families of those who have died from it but the actual flu, despite the availability of flu vaccine, kills way more people each year than this coronavirus has and will.If a vaccine becomes available then yes I would have to advise those that are at risk to get the shot but until then I'm with our president when he says don't panic.

Phyl, just saw your latest message. Congrats on getting the downstairs organized. AT this time I have only the one sewing machine and the very old one from the auction is out in the garage so no mixing up of pedals. I also got rid of my old bobbins so that I wouldn't put one in my newest machine by accident. Thanks for all the tips
Yes the fishing line being old is why we were pulling the old stuff off yesterday and putting on new. However the new turned out to be weak stuff so I took it back today and dh will get some new online probably.I was surprised that the line was in their system at walmart because we actually got it online on the walmart site but sometimes they don't have those things in the system at this local store. They also had no problem taking back the one we already used and I made sure to tell her even though the fact that we had used some was very obvious but I wanted to be clear that I wasn't trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today.
It was cloudy here today and a bit cooler, I think around 50, tomorrow is supposed to be a bit cooler. I'd like to find a store where I could buy a new weather station, but it seems like most of them are online sales only. I just like to look at something before I buy it.
My DB came by today and we did a few things outside my house. I do appreciate his help, even though the things we are doing are mostly patches to bigger problems.
No crafting for me today, hopefully this weekend I can get the March blocks done.
I read once that using too much of the anti-bacterial soaps/cleansers can remove your anti-bodies to germs. Not sure if it's true or not, but I've always used the hand sanitizer sparingly - just putting a few drops in my hand after I've been in stores or when I was still working after shaking hands. I always wash my hands well when I get home from being out and hope that helps.
Take care everyone!

CJ,actually washing your hands with soap and water, rubbing the soap into your hands for 20 seconds is probably the best thing to do then the alcohol hand sanitizer is next. I think that hospitals did a really bad thing by putting the hand sanitizer dispensers in every room. The reasons for that are twofold...first it makes the while place smell like alcohol. I never noticed that when I was working because it had really just been introduced but sure noticed it when I was a patient there about 10 years ago....and second because some of the staff do that instead of washing their hands when they really need to. the alcohol doesn't work when you have some kind of substance on your hands even the powder from gloves. I've seen plenty of people just use the sanitizer like that. Actually there is a third reason and that is the alcohol dries out the hands and creates cracks which then harbor all kinds of organisms. Of course too much hand washing with soap can do that too.

Hello Crafters It is colder here today and a bit windy. We're supposed to get rain tonight and maybe even some snow showers, but it's been too warm for anything to stick. And fortunately I don't have to go anywhere this weekend. I finished putting together all my March Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks this morning and they look really pretty with the aqua fabrics and white fabrics. I'm especially enjoying making the Hourglass blocks, they go together so quickly and I think I'd like to make a larger quilt with those sometime - using different colors. These quilts that I'm making monthly have had very bright colors so far, which I like. I'll have to be careful not to add too many dark fabrics later in the year since I don't think the very dark fabrics would look good with the lights. But I guess I'll check as we go along. Maybe I need some darker colors to balance all the brights. I also pulled out a machine applique project I've been trying to finish for years, you might even remember me talking about it. It's a small wallhanging of an Irish Chain quilt using St. Patrick's Day fabrics. I want to machine applique shamrocks in the larger white blocks. Every year I pull this out in March and try and finish it before the 17th - maybe this year will be the year I get it done Hope you are all doing well and getting some crafting in. Have a great weekend!

Today has been a frustrating day. I was dropped by my health insurance (which will be reinstated by Tuesday, I hope) but that is still a source of irritation.
Yes, CJ - everything I have heard is that its best just to do a good job of washing your hands and skip the hand sanitizer. And now your general area is impacted by the virus- i have not heard much about how many cases, but it is still a concern. Knowing you, it will all be ok, I bet you have lots of books downloaded and enough food and fabric to keep you out of harms way for a long time. As long as you have food and fabric, well, then all is well, right? Glad to hear that your brother came over to help. Taking care of a home can be overwhelming- and you have been doing a great job but some help is always appreciated. I know from readying my mom’s house for sale that not all problems will be fixed (unless you have unlimited money) and sometimes the bandaid approach is best. When I sold mom’s house, she had a small section of foundation next to the garage that had peeling paint. And we had no exterior white for the job, this was a small section- less than a square foot. Dh moaned about it and remarked that he would have to take care of it. He would have scraped the area, cleaned it off well and bought exterior white paint. Behind his back, I grabbed the interior white, quickly painted it and put the house on the market. (We had done extensive work already both inside and outside the house and were battle weary). By now I am sure its peeling....and frankly do not care. Glad you got back to work - or at least thinking about working on the Irish chain/shamrock quilt top. Hope you finish it this year!
Ruth, thanks for the professional advice regarding hand washing. And someone here mentioned cellphones- might have been CJ. I had my kids alcohol wip them- and actually just had the cable repair man here and gave him a cotton ball and alcohol to wipe down his phone. I too have had difficulty with Walmart and returns from items bought online. Normally its ok, but with some rare products, it can be an issue, especially if its an item that they do not carry in the store (as you mentioned). And yes, it did indeed seem as though my SIL called to find another shoulder to cry on and remind me of how “close” she and Dh were. She is such a frustrating person. But then frustrating people are everywhere.
Phyl- so glad you got your sewing area cleaned up! Bet that will make future projects easier as you can find things better. I hope that is the case for you. And Ruth gave great advice, just do your best getting the new quilt cut and put together. Unless its a glaring error, no one will notice but you. Remember “there is no such thing as a perfect quilter. The only perfect quilter is God”. This is supposed to be fun, don’t beat yourself up!
I will most likely crochet while watching the news. I am tired of paperwork and need to detox a bit. And I am NOT doing any of this stuff over the weekend. Gotta find a good craft for the little ones on Monday when I watch them
Hi to Sue and Meg....we miss them both. Ginny

Good morning all- surprised not to see anyone here this morning, so I will just say hello. I did get to watch some Poldark last night, and got another row done on the baby afghan. Think my issues with the pattern are going away, which I had hoped it would, as the weight of the afghan straightens out the pattern.
See ya later. Ginny

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING, Yesterday I did not make it here. Thought I did.
wi yesterday lost 2.2 pounds.missed making 25 off by .06 tenths. maybe next week.
we had lunch at Culver's. Then went to the quilt shop in MN . I paid for my class and got the back ground fabric. she said white. I had regular white at home.(I was thinking but was not sure)
this white is white background with sparkles in it.
what threw me off was she would say use a high contrast color for the back ground.
Holly showed me some new rulers out on the market. you can only get them in quilt shops ,not online. expensive.
they have a nonslip grid on the back. think they are made buy a company called quilter's connection or something like that never heard of the company before.
the 24 inch long ruler is about $40.00.no I have not bought any.not sure if I will.
this am I will be in my playpen sewing strips together on my brother.
enjoy your saturday. phyl
