Tough getting up this morning, as I am getting up at this hour for the first time in a few weeks....and of course lost an hour of sleep Saturday night..
Looks like most seem to favor e readers of sort, and I do get it that its so much easier to read a book on a tablet. Guess I will continue with my old school ways of using a library- I don’t feel like paying for any service that allows me to download books.
Off to get ready to babysit....bbl Ginny

Good morning to all and I hope you all have a good week
Ginny, the online reading I do is free. I'd drive to the library before I'd pay for reading a book. I do know some people that pay a lot of money out to read books on their Kindles. One woman, though, is in her 90's, has plenty of money and might as well use it and she loves to read so in her case it's very warranted.I also used to get an email every day listing books and some on there were free some you had to pay for. I downloaded the free ones I liked so now have plenty that I can read if I end up somewhere where there is limited internet. You don't have to be online to read these particular books.
I did get a lot of rows done on my afgan last night then found a mistake that I couldn't ignore back in row 2 so had to rip out. Then I worked on getting back to the place I was before ripping but didn't quite make it that far before I got too tired. I'll work on it again today after some more garage work. (there's sure a lot in that garage that I'd like to get rid of but that won't happen any time soon)

Happy Tuesday!
Had such a busy day yesterday, and so sorry I did not get back to say hello last night.
Ruth, that stinks that you found a mistake in only the second row, resulting in a lot of work being ripped out. Good thing you noticed it before you crochetted even more. This seems to be an easy pattern for you and one that is going quickly for you. Cleaning out a garage (or even just trying to find stuff in a garage) is absolutely no fun. And it can be so frustrating unless everyone is in agreement that stuff needs to be gotten rid of/thrown out or donated. Was Dh able to get his fishing gear all figured out for your trip? In the past, Dh would agonize over which rod/reel to take on vacation and sometimes I know he just had to finally admit that there was a really good Walmart and a Ben Franklin very close to where we stayed and that if he “needed” anything else, he could add to the collection there. Back to the afghan- just making sure that you have enough yarn to complete it. Will you be taking that on your trip to complete? Thanks for the heads up on the readers- I know that I think the IPAD offers some free downloads... and I am sure I can get used e readers, but its just a personal preference that I like a bound book.
I am close to finishing the Jennifer Chiaverini novel. IMO she wasted a ton of time (and almost 75 pages) catching readers up on where the series had been- I thought it was a bit boring and self serving. But now the book is pretty good. After that I took out one of those crochet mystery books (Ruth was reading in the series). And I have a few other books in the house to keep me out of trouble if I change my mind.
My crafting yesterday was making felt finger puppets with the grandkids. I made an elephant (for the 2 year old DGD), DGS made a dinosaur and DGD#1 had to make a unicorn- she was very happy with that. Quiet day for me today....I am taking my quilt to a guild meeting to give it to a long armer. At a finished size of 96x96 inches its huge- and I think will be better served by someone who knows what she is doing. Oh, yesterday (after babysitting) I did get some crochetting done while in the doctors office waiting room.
Enough from me. Gotta get my day started. Ginny

Good morning everyone. At least it's still morning here. Not too sunny though. I hope tomorrow is ok because I have to take my car for an oil change on the other side of town and I hate driving in rain. We're just not used to rain here.
And speaking of driving, we're having second thoughts about a trip. It is beginning to sound more and more that it would be a foolish idea to take a trip 1450 miles from a place that's unlikely to be very affected by this virus to a place that's most likely going to have a lot of cases of it. And driving through all the places inbetween and having to stop and eat and sleep puts us with a lot more people and more risk. Even after we get there the seven grandchildren interact with a lot of people in their church and homeschool coop and son is in close contact with a lot of people where he works which is in a hospital and we'd be with them a lot and could contact the virus they may bring home with them.It just seems to make more sense to stay here where it's MUCH less populous and we are stocked up on food and other necessities (including yarn of course) and wouldn't even have to go out.
Ginny, yes my dh is agonizing on what to take for fishing. And there are definitely stores not all that far away and there's always online ordering but I'm the same way about my yarn. I know I can buy there but I hate to have to add to my already very huge stash with some yarns I already have here.
Well we'll see what happens. I hear Cuomo is calling the nat'l guard to help combat the virus. Wonder what it is they do to accomplish that. I don't want to be a conspiracy wacko but it sounds like they're planning on illegally detaining people. Yes it will be (maybe) a way to keep it from spreading but I kind of doubt that because, as I mentioned before, the people who are being quaranteened are people that already have symptoms so have already infected the people around them

Yes, Ruth it sure sounds like staying home for awhile might be in your better interest. I know you and Dh will do what is best for you and decide wisely. Gee that is a long drive (one forgets how huge this country is!) and all the miles you would have to travel. I agree that all those rest stops and hotels would be problematic and probably not all that well cleaned. My DBIL and DSIL on return from Dh’s funeral had to stop in SC at a hotel that they said was awful- not well maintained. So why travel and possibly expose yourself when you own this property and can go any time? At least now you and Dh have a better idea what you need to pack and want to take. And it gives Dh more time to research online what fish are biting in the local lakes when. Fortunately for you, it’s always crocheting season.
Dropped off my quilt for the long armer. All that careful ironing and she folded it again- guess she has a large ironing station that will press it even more. So my ironing was just so that it was not a wrinkled mess. I know she has other quilts to work on ahead of me, so I figure I will see mine in several weeks.
Looks like local schools are preparing to close for awhile ( a week) to disinfect and isolate the kids and halt the spread of the virus. No district has announced closure yet, but the teachers in my family are sharing that the schools are preparing for “distance learning” for a while. Think early tomorrow am I will head to the store for a few items- no I am not buying a years supply of toilet paper- stuff like salad and bananas that I would like to enjoy for as long as I can if things get tough.
I need postage stamps- and might just opt to order them from the post office online. Easier than standing on a line to get them.
My sister called today and we chatted about crafting- plus I did get to that guild meeting to drop off my quilt. That might count as my crafting for the day. Will check in later on to see who else stopped in Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope everyone is doing well and having good weather The other evening I started thinking about an old unfinished quilt project. It was strange that it just came up out of nowhere and I decided I wanted to finish it, so I started working on it and should be able to get it done in a few days. The quilt was offered by a local quilt shop and it was called "Buck a Block". I think you paid a startup fee and then once a month you went to the quilt shop and picked up a pattern and fabric for $1. I got as far as making the blocks for 7 months and then after that I just picked them up but didn't finish them. There was also a setting kit they sold at the end of the year - so you could do your sashings and borders. I bought that. There are just 2 fabrics in the blocks - a dark teal and a light teal. The border/sashing has a cream fabric mixed in with the other two. I finished up the last 5 blocks and then squared them up and I've cut some fabric for the sashings so that's what I'll work on next. I'm glad to finish this really old project (2009), since I think it is the oldest unfinished quilt top I had. Hope you and all your families are staying well and taking care. Have a great day!

CJ, i wonder if working on the stash buster block of the month got you thinking about teal fabric. Sure sounds like a nice project to work on, especially because you are part way into it. It’s the best kind of project, you have all the materials needed and don’t have to wait till next month for more supplies. How large a quilt will this kit make? I am sitting in the waiting room of the eye doctor with my pastors wife (aka quilting buddy). We were walking and she mentioned that she was experiencing similar symptoms to what I had. I told her to call ( we use the same medical group). They wanted to see her immediately, and being that she might be Dialated, i drove her here. Brought my crocheting- good to pass the time.
Nice weather here. It was a good day for a walk.
Will check in later Ginny

CJ, I'm glad that project came to mind. What a great thing to have all the parts of the pattern and also all the fabric needed. It will be a great feeling to have that done plus then you can sit and look at your beautiful work
Ginny, I stopped and prayed that your friend's eye is ok. It's a beautiful day here too if only the wind wasn't blowing so hard.I'd take a walk if it was calmer
I did do a lot of walking anyway and a lot of sitting. I went out and had the car's oil changed and got a nice surprise...no charge on what would have been a $70 bill. Then took care of four other errands. I did forget a couple things I had wanted to look at when in Walmart. I took dh's reel back and yes, they gave me a hard time about no receipt and actually she was a little rude telling me I needed to keep the receipts that come with the product I bought. Well I told her that about 99% of online orders from Walmart come without a receipt(she looked like she didn't believe me) and since I have no printer I can't print one. I had taken a picture of the online receipt though so I asked her if that would suffice. Come to find out all she needed was the order number. She could have just said that but I just went along and was nice and read her the order number from the picture on my phone.
I found that I can't carry yarn in this afgan because the brick stitch allows it to show a LOT. So now I'm working with three skeins of Pound of Love yarn and trying to keep them from tangling.. If I had made it as the pattern instructs I'd be juggling five if these big skeins
Ok off to do either some work or some crocheting...probably will end up being crocheting

Ruth that sounds complicated carrying 3 skeins of yarn. Hope as the project gets larger that its not too difficult to do. Glad you finally prevailed over the Walmart return policy... wow this person sounds obtuse. And thanks for the prayer for my friends eye- they want to recheck in 4 weeks but were not concerned and she does not have what I have. Still good to get it checked out however.
Gonna go watch the presidents address.... Ginny

I didn't know the president was giving an address tonight. I imagine it's over by now.
I'm hearing bad things about the virus. WHO has officially declared it a pandemic I heard. I have a feeling we will not be taking a trip any time soon so who knows, I may have my afgan done by then. If not I won't be working on it during the trip because it's just too big a project. Since one of my errands today was delivering my hats to the senior center for the CAps for Kids group I need to start building up my supply to donate again and doing those while on a trip would be a good thing to work on. I don't want to take a bunch of yarn into a motel even though the ones we'll stay in will be ones you would think would be nice and clean but I've known people that worked in motels and hotels that were top of the line and they said that if only people knew what they know they wouldn't leave home. I don't want to have to be calling extreminators because of picking something up in a hotel.Years back my parents, a brother and sister and I all went to Hawaii and in the middle of the night I woke to find cockroaches in the room and that was a Hilton which were really nicce back then....1969 I think
Ginny, I'm glad your friend's eye is ok. I've sent prayer of thanks.

Think the plans announced last night by the President sound prudent and did not surprise me. I am just hoping that this is a very short term situation and this disease can be controlled quickly.
Not sure if I shared this or not, but when DBIL and DSIL returned to Florida last month they broke the drive into 2 days, as they normally do. And they wanted to avoid I-95- which once you get south of Baltimore and through Washington DC is super congested- so they travelled west to get onto I-81. Unfortunately, there were no hotels anywhere near where they wanted to stay- ended up driving over 850 miles in one day and having to get onto I-95 anyway to find a hotel. That hotel was an absolute dump- in horrible condition and because of its poor condition difficult to clean. You would think that in this day and age that roadside hotels/motels would have better standards. But I guess those along an interstate can take advantage of folks and have horrible conditions. Long story short, I guess I understand your concerns Ruth. That afghan sounds like quite a project for sure. Guess that is the challenge of working on something that will ultimately be one big piece, it becomes ungainly in size. Juggling several yarn colors would probably drive me nuts too. Hats off to you Ruth for doing that.
I am (as I am sure we all are) missing Phyl, Sue and Meg....hope all is well in their worlds.
Got DGD coming here today for the day. I should be going out for my walk now, but am going to opt for the treadmill this morning. Feeling kind of lazy. BBL Ginny

I don't know how my computer just suddenly erases everything I've typed
I thought of Phyl yesterday and again this morning.
850 miles is a very long distance to drive in a day. one time on the way home from southeastern Indiana we stopped at an interesting motel. I asked to see the room first because I thought it was going to be a dump. Instead, inside it was actually very nice and was uniquely decorated. Back then most roadside motels didn't have a fridge and microwave but this one did.
Ginny, you can be as lazy as you like but getting on a treadmill is not lazy in my opinion.
My dh was right about it snowing today after 60 degrees yesterday. We got several inches.

About 150 colleges and univerties are sending students home for spring break and telling them not to come back. Classes will be online. Homecoming and classes been cancelled at the college I attended in Southern California.
I've finished accumulating my supplies and decided that I'm starting isolation now. I went to quilting this morning, but I'm not comfortable continuing. Local senior living communities won't allow visitors. I will go to chiropractor on Monday, but that will be the last visit for a while.
I will be ordering replacement and perishable groceries online. I will pick them up, but several friends have offered to do so if I can't.
My NYC daughter and son in law are isolating, although that's problematic in a 300 resident building. There are known cases in a building down the street. Other DD on the west coast said the changes in two weeks are startling. They were in Hawaii where there are no cases and just returned to what has become a hot spot while they were gone.
All Montana universities will be joining the move to online instruction on March 23. Just announced a few minutes ago.
We had a little snow last night, less than an inch. I'm still not seeing robins. Mountain bluebirds are arriving in the area. They are such a startling shade of blue.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I hope you will be able to postpone your trip until this virus (hopefully) stops spreading. Ginny - Hope you enjoyed the day with your DGD. Sue - I'm glad you have a way to get groceries so you don't have to go out. Phyl and Meg - Hope you are doing well. It's shocking how fast this virus is spreading. I sure hope that with people taking more precautions and group events being cancelled that it will slow the spread. I went out today, since I had a business appointment. I went ahead and got some groceries too, so I'm good for several weeks without having to shop again. The stores were a lot more crowded for a Thursday morning than they usually are. I didn't even try to look at any hand sanitizer - I have a few small bottles so I'm good. I think washing my hands with soap and water is just as effective, just my opinion. I hope that all of us and our families stay healthy. Take care everyone!
