Not really much new here as I checked in late last night. With schools closed, I have no babysitting today or for quite a few weeks. Wish I had slept later, but I have two furry alarm clocks who knew that breakfast had not been served yet. I have to get busy on my thank you notes, and perhaps will get to that in a little bit.
Stay safe, stay well Ginny

Good morning crafters. I hope you are all having a good day and are staying away from the virus carriers.
My brother said that NYS is closing down at 8pm. Don't know what he meant by that or if that was supposed to be a joke. He has a weird sense of humor
My dh made a nice fire so I'm going to sit here and work on the afgan which I didn't get to yesterday. I made a hand sanitizer holder with a clasp to put it on my purse or keychain and decided to make one for all my family so that's what I spent my time doing except for reading and a couple fb games I did to just relax.
I heard from one of my cousins in email today. I haven't heard from her in probably 10 years or more. She and one other cousin are the only ones of my large extended family I ever hear from although the daughter of one of my cousins from my mother's side showed up on facebook one day looking for info on family history and sent me a friend request so I added her and so did all my brothers, my sister and my daughter. Come to find out she and her husband both have conquered addictions of some kind...didn't specify...recently and have been "clean" for a year or two.
One of my neices also married a man who has been "clean and sober" for a couple years and I pray he will be able to maintain that. They are expecting a baby in September so I may make her a blanket.

Ruth, sounds like you did a awesome day staying away from viruses.....and had a nice day also. Sitting near a lovely fire and reading or crochetting sounds so cozy and comforting . That is a happy story that you nieces husband seems to be staying sober. I will add him to my prayer list that he stays sober. Its very exciting news that they are expecting a little one in September, and of course its such a nice idea that you make a baby afghan for this little one. Do they live close to you at all or are they back east? Good news that your cousins are also embracing healthy living and trying to conquer addiction. its so very sad that its a lifetime struggle, and I pray that they can all prevail over their personal issues. As far as NYC goes, I have not heard of anything like a closure, but do know that some areas are restricting traffic after 8 pm and until the morning. All bars and restaurants and gyms close at 8 pm indefinitely, so perhaps that is what your brother means.
Called Social security, and instead of meeting with them in person, we will handle my affairs with a phone meeting and mailing materials back and forth. One financial entity - because Dh had it set up as a TOD (time of death) account, is an easy transfer- and instead of having to go in to meet with someone, all that was handled by an email. The final financial entity I will have to go into visit, but its a tiny office (just one person)- so I am not concerned too much about that. I am teaching a class of 3 people Wednesday am- in a small office of 4 people. I think that is ok and will disinfect the area I teach in before I set up.
On to the baby afghan - its not straightening out so I am going to rip out the 4 rows I have done and modify how I am making it. Think if I leave a blank chain between when I start building the pattern it will work out.
Bible study is cancelled tonight, but my teacher is trying to get us in a private group so we can live stream through facebook together. Hope she is able to do that. Looks like all bars are closing, which is good- Ds’s bday is tomorrow and I hope that he just goes to a friends house to hang out with and stays out of public places.
All movie theaters, gyms and casinos are closed in my state. The bad news is that my DSIL (Dd#1 husband) is a salesman at a gym (he does very well at that) and I hope that the gym does not close and he loses his job.
I did start to make some more headway on my thank you notes....will continue to do so tomorrow. Think tonight I will let all that go- find something good to watch on TV and crochet.
Take care all, stay safe Ginny

Hi Ginny, I'm glad you will be able to take care of much of your business on the phone or online and won't have to go out to take care of those things. I think it's a great idea for you to just sit and relax and watch some tv and crochet. I think the afgan I'll make for my neice will be the one you're making that I started when you made the last one for your dgd#2. I don't have much of it done yet but have a start anyway. No she doesn't live near me nor back east. She met her husband playing Words With Friends online, they started talking and eventually visiting. He lived in Calif but went to Niagara Falls where she lived with her dad, my brother. After visiting back and forth for a year or so she finally moved out to Calif and after a few months they got married. I'm sorry to hear that you have to rip out the rows on your baby blanket. It's frustrating when that happens so I hope it will work now when you restart it. On the Cross afgan I'm on row 7 of the post of the cross so I have a ways to go to reach the arms. I'm hoping to get there today but who knows. I started just a little while ago after making cornbread, carrot cake and making dh some oven fries then writing back to my cousin. Now, as you see, I'm already taking a break

Hey Ruth! Sounds like you did plenty of cooking today, so it’s OK if you want to take a break. I hope you can make up the time that you wanted to put into on the Afghan so you can get it done as soon as you want to.
Yeah, I did rip out those rose of the Afghan figured out my mistake but now I’m back in business again and the afghans coming out OK. I gave up on paperwork for a while I got a few things done today and I’ll go back to it tomorrow.

Hello Crafters Ruth - How nice to hear from a relative you hadn't talked to in awhile. That hand sanitizer holder is a good idea. Ginny - I'm glad you could "meet" with SS over the phone and that you won't have to go into a large office to finalize things. The office near me is always packed - probably 30-40 customers. Hope your training goes well too. Sounds like we are all doing whatever we can to stay safe and well. It's a tough decision on some things whether to do them or not. I have a medical appointment this week that I need to go to, and so far it hasn't been cancelled, so I hope I can still have it. I thought about not going, but it's not something I really should put off. I also think I'll brave the grocery store again while I'm out just to get a few things and then I should be fine for a month or so. I'll be relieved to get these things done so I don't have to go out anymore for awhile. I finished putting the inner and outer borders on my quilt top and I'm really happy with how this turned out. I'm sure glad I didn't give away this project like I'd thought of doing several times over the last 10 years. The fabrics in this quilt are very subdued, so it's a calming looking top. I laid it out over my full size bed and it stretches across the whole top, so I guess it's probably about a twin size quilt. There was enough of the outer border fabric left for binding, so I already cut those strips and they'll be ready to make into binding some day. Now maybe I can move onto working on machine appliqueing those shamrocks on the small Irish Chain quilt Take care everyone and stay safe

Our cases doubled tonight - from 4 to 8. That's not very many, but then testing has not really been done yet. The testing program is just getting set up and will still be on a limited basis. I suspect numbers appear lower than they really are.
I'm doing some second guessing about having hb's caregiver come to the house. We aren't really isolated if someone comes into the hous who has had had many interactions with people. Today he called to ask if he could come tomorrow instead of today. Upset stomach again. He seems like he's unaffected by stress, but the stress lands in his stomach. He has a lot of unusual stress this semester.
Working on another dishcloth!
Both of my children are in "shelter in place" locations.

They are closing everything here and we have only 3 cases in the whole state. Library is close until May5th...yes May. Senior center, rec center all closed. My dd has a dr app't tomorrow only gyn and they called today to tell her not to come into the office but to call them from the parking lot and they will come out to sign her in then they'll call her in her car when it's time for her to actually see the doctor. They don't want anyone in their waiting room.
CJ, I'm so glad too that you didn't give the fabric, etc for that quilt away. I'm glad you were able to make so much progress on it and that you like it so much.
Sue probably a good idea to tell your hubby's caregiver to not come. He's probably been in contact with a lot of people and you won't know what kind of organisms he may be bringing with him.
Ginny, happy birthday to your dear son. I hope he does decide to either stay home or just visit with the one friend.
I made a little progress on the afgan but not up to the arms yet.
I hope Meg is ok. I should email her again and check

I have more headaches today again and a scratchy throat. Just got over the cold. I'm sure I don't have "the virus" but probably got another cold germ from being out the on Wed.
Going to sit and work on the afgan and redo the puff stitch hat as I accidentally added an extra puff in each row and the body of the hat got too large. I really need to do what I tell others and that is to use stitch markers and count.
See you all later

Good morning! Didn’t realize that I didn’t get here yesterday at all. So sorry.
CJ that quilt top sounds so pretty, and I’m so very very glad that you decided to finish it! Yeah get working on that shamrock well too. Another nice project for you. Call your doctors appointment and see if they still will see you. I know here the doctors will see you but it’s got to be something that you need to go for not just a routine follow-up. Sue I hope your kids stay safe. Hope you stay safe too! And perhaps it’s not such a good idea to have your husbands caregiver there as much. Although with nowhere to go because everything is closed some respite care for you might be a good idea. Are you working on a different dish cloth pattern this time?
Ruth, feel better! It does seem like you’ve had a cold for a bit. I hope if you do have to run some errands that they go quickly and you can just get home. What are you working on now?
My son loves his birthday present, and my youngest And her husband came over last night so they made fried pickles with his new air fryer. It’s something that he wanted. So I was sad for him and that he couldn’t go out and be with his friends but I think we salvage the evening is best we could. Got to get ready to go teach, I only have three students and I’m going to disinfect the heck out of the area before I even talk to them. Stay safe All.
I did email Meg last night. I’ll let you know if I hear anything from her

Hello Crafters Sue - Hope you can work things out with your DH's caregiver. There are a lot of tough decisions we are having to make. Ruth - Hope you worked out the stitches on the afghan. Ginny - I'm happy to hear your DS enjoyed his birthday present. The air fryers are so popular and seem like a good appliance for making lots of foods. Phyl and Meg - Hope you are doing well. I did get to my medical appointment yesterday. It was a semi-emergency type thing that if I waited a month or more to have done would have made it worse. I was glad the medical office was still open since it sounds like they will be closing soon. They did take my temperature when I went in, which I thought was a good call. I also stopped for a few more groceries while I was out and it was shocking to see how empty the shelves were in the grocery stores. I read that the supply trucks are having trouble getting to the distribution centers which is causing the backup. And of course the hoarding isn't helping. I had to fight the urge to buy more than I really needed, that survival instinct just kicks in I guess. My appointment that was for today was cancelled since the business office closed, which I completely understand. So now I'm able to stay home for awhile now. I sure hope this virus crisis ends soon and doesn't get much worse. It was very strange seeing all the restaurants and fast food (except drive thru) places closed yesterday while I was out. These are strange times for sure. I hope that you and all your families will stay well too

Good morning all.. It's still morning where Sue and I are and even earlier in Meg's area
I haven't been out and won't be unless we have a medical emergency. I still have a scratchy throat but the headaches seem to be gone.
They had some doctors on tv that are finally telling the truth about the virus. I guess they didn't want to panic the people more but with more and more people still out running around they finally are admitting that this probably will get much worse, spread to more people and kill more and I guess are trying to convince people that they really meant what they said when they said STAY HOME
I found that there are 38 rows before the arms of the cross and I'm now up to 16 so I'm getting there. Can't say that I've spent a lot of time working on it. I did remake the hat yesterday and worked on the afgan for a short time and will again today but want to do some more cleaning and organizing. We did chat with ds last even on "social media" and told him that we undoubtedly will not make our trip until fall now and he said he had thought that would be the case and was glad we're heeding the warnings. He just wanted to make sure we had enough of everything to get through what could possibly be a fairly long period of isolation and we do. My dh is very good at creating food combos that end up delicious and we do know ways of conserving everything else. Stores near us are suspending their fees for curb pickup and one store even issued a coupon for free delivery when you order online. Of course they have to have the product or products you're looking for so that could be a problem
My sister has an air fryer. I bought an instant pot and rarely use it so I've been reluctant to get an air fryer. I think that my sister mainly uses hers for preprepared fish filets, chicken nuggets, fries, etc.

Ruth, good to hear that you are making some progress on the afghan. Little by little it will get done, especially now that a lot of us cannot go out or should restrict going out considerably. Bet its a relief settling with your Ds about your travel plans. One thing about the online ordering of groceries, its pretty easy to see store inventory online and the local stores here are very good at calling if they cannot if fullfill an item. Thats a great idea to suspend the shopping fees- it keeps the store more sane and everyone healthier. Glad you and Dh are good at creating new food combos- that will surely keep you both interested in what you are eating!! I have had very little exposure to what is on the media about Covid 19. Will have to see what I hear- and if it does appear as though the medical community is opening up about this horrible pandemic. I repeat, I sure hope this passes quickly. I wonder when normal will return.
CJ- what a relief that you were able to get into your doctor. Now you can stay home and do what you want to do/must.....and hopefully will not need any doctors visits now until a long time from now. I am waiting to hear from my Dd who went to the store last night- she wanted to pick up a few additional items for the apartment. ( I personally think they are under stocked for this, but they also do not have a lot of storage space). I do expect that if we really go on quarantine that she and her Dh will be staying here. Yes, its so odd to see all the local restaurants closed and doing take out only. For Ds’s bday we ordered chinese- take out of course. tried to do something normal for him on a year that is anything but normal.
Absolutely and totally love this air fryer. I think Ds will use it a fair amount - and at least it made him smile yesterday. the food sure does come out nice and crisp with no added fat.
Walking with my study teacher shortly. Will check in later to see how everyone is doing Ginny

Funny thing is that I can accidentally highlight and delete what I typed but can't figure out how to do it purposely...so here goes again
CJ, I'm glad you were able to get your medical app't done. It sounds like it was something that was concerning to you so I hope and pray everything is ok now.
Ginny, I'm glad you and esp your son likes the air fryer. I may have to look into them. I know I've seen infomercials on tv on some of them and they seem like they'd be a greater benefit maybe than this instant pot I bought because my ds and ddil love there's. Of course there's 9 of them to use it for not just 2 like us.
My brother was to have surgery Friday. They just called him yesterday to tell him what time to get there and that there could be only one person there with him or in the waiting area. Well just now they called and told him that surgery was cancelled. It was for a reverse shoulder replacement so certainly nothing urgent so I'm glad he won't be there and exposed.
I was crocheting along and on row 22 but found a mistake that couldn't be left so out came a row and a half but it's back in now. It's th4e first mistake I made so I'm happy.I realized too that when I get to the row before the arms I'll have to tie off my cross color yarn and use a new one where the arms start. Then when done with the arms I'll need to tie off again and start that color again at the post of the cross and at that point there's only 3 rows of that color left and it will be easy sailing from there
I also joined a "shawlalong" on fb. I want to make triangle scarves for all the "girls" in the family so this way I can get a head start. The young lady that started it thought everyone needed a diversion from the worry of illness
