Its pretty funny- there is a web site that actually lets you calculate how much toilet paper you will need to last a shelter in place. Well, I should have to pick some up in about a month (think I can go almost 6 weeks with what I have in the house.) Of course I counted Ds in that total, and if he is at work - which he will have to be on his scheduled days- then less TP will be used those days.
Sue, i picked up yeast a few weeks ago, but I must say I almost always have a jar of yeast in the house. My Dh used to enjoy some good home made sticky buns or a loaf of homemade bread (thanks to a bread machine). I would think that a big box store like Walmart or even amazon would sell yeast online. There is even a way to catch yeast from the air ( thus making your own sour dough starter). I read about it once....perhaps you could investigate that. Like you, this is supposed to be almost spring- and we have snow falling right now. My birds are crazy noisy out there. The little birds are fighting over the window feeder (I am only a few feet away from that inside) and I figure that the ground feeders are on what I just sprinkled for them. My little birds are house finches, chickadees, and an occasional cardinal (they normally feed on the larger feeders).
Ruth, perhaps today you will get back to working on the afghan. How far did you get on it? Do you plan on shipping it to Ds and DDIL when done or will you wait until your trip in the fall?
Started a new book last night....guess I will have to give it a shot and see if i can get into the writing style. If not, its ok, I have other books to read. think today I will wait and see if the financial paperwork that was overnighted to me arrives in the mail. So I will work on paperwork today- just try to clean up a mess of random paperwork a bit- and perhaps crochet later on. Good day to stay put as its supposed to snow lightly all day.
Stay safe, stay well. Ginny

It's still dark here. I let ythe dogs out, and my super nice neighbors have the Christmas lights on as promised.
No special plans for today there than mopping the kitchen floor. Dogs and melting snow creator work. I will do a little walking.
Property manager said some students are returning from spring break even if there is no school to return to. That should drive up numbers since some were in Florida,, Moab, Utah and who know where.
The number of confirmed cases in the county is ten, most are here. NYC DD said there are several cases in her building now. They didn't attend a campaign gathering for a friend two weeks ago. The candidate just sent out an email saying he now has covid 19.

Good morning, Well I am not surprised places are getting snow. we had a little Friday night. Did not last long. this is March winter will try to come and go.
how does that saying go? it's like winter is mad: LEAVES AND COMES BACK AGAIN.
FOR our state being a seasonal state I would say the last several weeks of temps being in the 40's and 50's once in awhile it is spring, how ever a cold spring. spring will get here when it is ready. winter always has to try and make a last one ditch try.
there is a prediction this virus could be around for 12-15 weeks more. also April is going to be worse..
I was going to make some fabric face masks.ON FOX NEWS a quilter asked about making a fabric face masks. this doctor says no. he is very uncomfortable with that idea.
I have wondered when they started telling people to use bandanas.
I would only had made enough for my db family. JAN has afib.I would hate it if I made a mask and they traced it to the face mask.
our community has really been exposed now. a out of town visitor was at a church funeral on the 12th hours 4-6. then the next day at red lobster. how many people could he have infected. they are warning people. he is in quarantine.
today I need to work on getting this bedroom/computer room back together. will work on some more drawers tomorrow. really want to get back to quilting.
oh yeah I will have more stuff for goodwill in a few days.
yesterday I took a bag of embellishments to Nita. put the bag on the door, rang the doorbell and stepped back onto the sidewalk. was probably 7-8 feet away when she opened the door..(outside)
need to get started. let's enjoy our day. Phyl

DH had ordered yeast online and it turned out to be nutritional yeast not the baking kind so he cancelled that order. Amazon has some but it's very expensive.
Many of you may remember and esp you, Sue because it happened at your location also...snow on June 3rd. Our winters are always like that. We can't count of having a spring and no summer until the first of June usually. All this week it will be 40's and 50's but for a couple of those nights snow is forecast but it will melt fast.
Sue, my grandson and his little family live near you. I haven't heard that they're sick so I hope not. He works in a care center there.
When I was in nursing school and first working that's all we had was fabric masks. White for working with patients on isolation and sterile procedures and green for in the OR so I would think they're better than nothing at all however some wanted to crochet them and I think those would be even worse than useless.
Ginny, I finished the arms of the cross and am now working of the part of the post above the arms. It's 11 rows. I guess I didn't pay attention to the pattern back when I said it was only 3 or 4 rows and I can see where 11 would be needed. Probably even 9 would work. I think I have 4 of those rows done.

Hello Crafters I'm glad to hear that you are all hanging in there and that you and none of your family are sick from this virus. I wish we were past the worse of it but I also think there is still worse to come. The Governor of Maryland stated today that all non-essential businesses must be closed. I sure hope this will limit some of the people that are gathering in larger groups and possibly spreading the virus while they are out. I managed to get a package of yeast and 2 pounds of flour when I shopped last week (and the week before) since I was thinking that at least I could make some bread. I wanted some olive oil to make pizza crust, but there wasn't any in the store last week. Maybe if I go again in a few weeks they might have it. But I want to stay out of the stores as long as I can. I spent time today getting my business papers together. My goal is to have everything in one folder that I could take with me if I needed to leave the house quickly. I always wonder how difficult it would be to notify banks and businesses if I didn't have all the information. I've finished most of it just need to make a better list of all my computer passwords - it's crazy how many of them we need. It was colder here yesterday than it had been, today we're getting some rain. I haven't gone outside since Saturday and I'm debating getting the mail, or just leaving it to get tomorrow. My only exposure to the virus right now would be through the mail, at least that's what I figure. I finished a small table runner the other day from the leftover blocks and scraps from the quilt top I finished last week. I've started cutting fabrics for a small wall hanging using the Pins and Paws block from MSQC. Here's a quick tutorial on the block: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhjJHZlABEkI did add a 1 1/2 by 9 1/2 inch strip onto the right side of the block and then placed a 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inch block at the top of it to snowball and made it look like a tail with a tip. I also didn't use 10 inch squares but cut my fabric from yardage. I'm only making 8 blocks - 4 in a blue with cream background and 4 in a silver/gray with cream background. I have a small fat quarter of a 1930s fabric with kittens on it and I want to use it somehow in the quilt, but I need to figure that out after I've made the cat blocks. Take care everyone and stay safe and well

CJ, my dh was going to order olive oil online but they were out of stock on that too. I didn't realize that many people used olive oil.
It's a good idea to keep a folder of your paper work in your "to go" bag. I don't know what they do if you have a fire and all your papers burn up because even to get a replacement drivers license we have to have a birth certificate or valid passport and proof of address. I have a copy of each in my bug out bag and so does dh but they want an original
I'm going to that link in a minute to see your table runner
I finished the cross part of my afgan/throw. I just need to do 11 more rows of the plain part that surrounds the cross and then on to the edging. I'll probably wait and take it with me when (or if) we go to visit in the fall. Local ID expert says the virus, if it wanes in summer, will come back in the fall probably. I think it's anyone's guess at this point.

Good morning-
Well it sounds as though there is some hope with this corona virus in that there are some effective treatments being validated. This is a horrible situation but Lord willing, I think we will prevail. And by fall there should be adequate testing and availability of PPE for those who want it.
Ruth you are flying on that afghan. I am curious to your logic as to why you would not just finish it now, being that you are getting so close to the end. Bet it looks so pretty!! Will you be doing the edging in the same color (charcoal) as the border?
As I get through the process of revising all my financial doings, I also see the need for good filing and organization. Dh did not leave me with a mess, but I hope to improve upon what was left, so that when my children have to handle my affairs for whatever reason, everything will be all together. Good idea CJ!
CJ- that pins and paws tutorial is adorable! Thanks for sharing....I have an out of state friend who also loves cats. If I ever make a quilt for her, that would sure be the one to make.
Sue- hope your Dd can just stay home and stay safe....its rather scary to know that she was so close to being exposed to the virus. Hope you got your housework done. Washing my kitchen floor is something I need to do also.
Phyl- think we all have to be careful these days, and yes things are going to get worse before they get better. Do you have enough fabric to keep you busy quilting??
Got a walk in to feed the ducks....lovely day outside for late March. I have some banking to do today (will just drop it off in the drop box outside the bank) and enjoy the nice weather. Ds made it home ok yesterday from work. One officer at his facility has Covid 19- of course that person is not at work but who knows who was infected while that person was contagious. Sobering times indeed....gotta practice social distancing within my own home. And pray for a rapid end to this crisis.
I am getting some crochetting done daily....and in a strange way am enjoying the lack of stress- no work - no babysitting. I do miss the little ones, but if we all do what we must do to end this crisis, I will get to see plenty of them soon enough. Ginny

I agree with the idea of having all financial papers and info organized and available for those that will have to take care of them in the even that somehow we are not able. In that regard I have a notebook in which I have listed all my accounts and all the companies I deal with and info on where my papers can be found...file cabinet, bank safe deposit box, etc. I'm not an organized person but felt the need to do that.
I'm not a cat person but I love that table runner, CJ, You find some great patterns and info and you're able to pick up leftover fabric and make it into something wonderful. That's a wonderful talent. God has blessed you.
Ginny, you read that wrong or I was confusing as I am a lot of the time. I'm going to finish the afgan now but I just won't send it..I'll take it with us.I have only two rows left on the middle part..then comes the edging. The cross and the border will be the same color while the color surrounding the cross is antique white.
Yes it's great that there is a medication that might work and is being tested. I really don't understand how this drug that kills the malaria parasite kills virus but I hope it does.I just hope that people don't look at that as a lifting of restrictions on gathering together as they might find that it doesn't work after all and going back to normal activities could end up being a disaster.
Ginny, I'm glad your son made it back home safely. An answer to prayer for sure and prayer will continue for his safety from the virus as well as your safety also.

We had five inches of spring snow this morning, but it's melting rapidly. As I looked out the bay window, a group of finches flew into the tall juniper and crabapple tree for berries and fruit. A robin came along to join them, and a falcon zoomed by. Mother Naure and Spring are here and proceeding in spite of current events.
The new snow is almost gone.
The rest of the dog food was delivered, and I was able to get it into the garage without lifting.
Medical events that aren't covid 19 are still happening. Hb's sil is in the hospital with congestive heart failure but is recovering and will be released in a few days. He may be a sil but is at risk in multiple categories. Including age.
Like magic, a crocheted hat I made several years ago appeared in a load of laundry I did last night, so I don't have to wait until I finish to get my hair under control. Static electricity makes my hair look like I stuck my finger in an electrical outlet!

good afternoon,
I may a have to get creative with colors of threads if I run out of naturals..
I have heard they want to try the LUPUS drug now. Dr.Aston on gma said there are people who are on this med who need it. she is afraid there could be a shortage of the drug if they do.the pharmacy companies better make more.
it sure would be nice if the U.S.A could come up with the answer.
we went for a walk after lunch. 50 and sunny. little cool.
I started in my playpen this am.did a little cutting out. also got out Nathan's cinn bangle's quilt am going to try and finish it this year. think I started it when he was 7or 8. now is 13.
heck I know I started it when he was 8. now is 28. why do we do this as crafters.
cj I have a McCAll's 2000 magazine with a kitty quilt similar to paws.designer is Robert Callahan. never made it. ,so far.the kitty's don't have a tail either.wonder why. phyl

We didn't get any snow here that I know of. If we did it was all melted by the time I got up.
Yes there are still other very serious illnesses to be dealt with that also require ventilators and concentrated medical care.
Well even though I had to rip out 3 1/2 rows on my afgan I finished the middle part so I thought. I measured it though and it's wider than it is long so I think I'll have to add a few more rows to each end before I do the outer part.
And even in this time of crisis people are being unkind and making snide remarks to others including those that say the warnings that are being given are akin to saying "the sky is falling". How can people be so blind. I guess until one of their loved ones die of this they will never get the message that this virus is not a joke.I don't actually know anyone who has tested positive even online where I post but I don't have to know one to know that this is serious....more than serious.

Hello Crafters - I'm glad to hear you and your families are staying safe from the virus, hope that continues Ruth - Yes it's the cat block that I'm making I finished getting most of my business papers together yesterday. I do need to get the final copy of my updated will but that's been put off with all the closures. At least everything is in one place now, so that's a relief. There is one other thing I want to do - put all my passwords into a small notebook I bought a few years ago that is set up for them. I have them together on a written list, but having them in the notebook would be nice. It was partly cloudy here today, but milder than yesterday. I think we are getting rain again tomorrow. I went outside and got the mail from yesterday and today. As long as it's just junk mail in the box, I'm going to try to pick it up every other day. I figure that's the only exposure I have to the virus right now since I'm not going anywhere. I also started both of my cars and drove them up and back down the driveway just to move them. I need to do that more often than I have been, since I don't think it's good for them to sit long without being started at least. I try not to watch or read too much of the news because it's scary and some people are just crazy Sure hope we can get through this time as soon as possible. I haven't gotten back to my quilt yet, but hopefully soon. I have all the block pieces cut out, just need to start piecing. Take care everyone!

Good morning all!! So nice to see everyone here this morning.
CJ- well you did what I have been doing, starting cars to get them running.. I drove our spare car to my friends house on Saturday to pick up from her seeds that she bought for me. Just to get the car going.....Yes, an updated will will have to wait, but its so good of you to be so organized for your family it they ever have to take care of your affairs. In settling my mom’s estate, I had to scramble a bit for information. Its very considerate of you that you are eliminating that scramble for your family- I think that desire to be organized comes from knowing (as you do) how challenging it can be to settle an estate. I try not to watch too much news either. Do some quilting instead....its much better for your sanity.
Ruth, I invite anyone who does not believe that this crisis is serious to look at the statistics from NYC and listen to Governor Andrew Cuomo (who I am not a big fan of, but has been pretty good through this crisis). Covid is real- and its a big problem and you do not want it in your neighborhood nor your household. I kind of figured that you would finish the border on the afghan in the same pretty color of grey. And I can imagine it would be expensive to mail- and so you will deliver it in the fall personally. Does Ds and DDIL know you are making this for them?
Phyl- we do this because we can and there is always a bigger and better project out there to catch our eye. I have a cross stitch that took me 15 years to complete. And its not that big.. Glad you got out for a walk in some spring like weather. Agree with you that the pharmaceutical companies need to up their game- but when dealing with the FDA that is a challenge. (I worked for a pharmaceutical company for 20 years). You are right, it would be lovely if the effective treatment came from our nation- but we also need to bring our manufacturing back from China.
Ok, off to feed the ducks- then to take care of some paperwork. Ginny
Sue- hope that Dh’s SIL is ok and recovers enough to get home. CHF is tough- requires that the individual take very good care of themselves according to their doctors orders. Hope that he will do so and can manage the condition for a long time. Yes, other health issues continue other than Covid. My gf in Maryland is taking her husband for a procedure on a heart valve. Its questionable if he will be strong enough to survive that procedure. Love the story about your hat- a nice way to fix static cling.
