Good Morning to all. It's just past 11 am here.
Got a package delivery just a little while ago and I'm leaving it on the porch for now then will put it in the garage for a couple days and then will spray with a little bleach water. I need to go down to my mailbox too and mail a couple letters. I don't often receive anything but junk mail.I don't even get many bills because I have all mine online.
Phyl, thanks for the info. You really keep up on these things.
Ginny, congrats on the planting. It's way too early to plant anything here but I'm thinking of starting my tomato seeds. Yes I do think that having your daughter come over will be good for both of you. You're really coming along on the baby blanket
DH is up so see you all later

I ordered seeds and plan to plant a vegetable garden this year. I also ordered some unusual bulbs that have to be lifted in the fall to survive. I asked them to deliver now rather than May just in case there are problems just in case there are shipping problems for nonessential supplies somewhere down the road. Unusual for me is anything that needs special attention. In this case, and gladiolus. I probably won't lift the bulbs.
Danny, the bichon, got a tummy trim at three in the morning. He got a little too close to me, and I nabbed him. At some point when it's warmer, his coat will have to be shaved. In the meantime, he's very matted, and I keep trimming a little bit at a time. I went back to sleep!
This is a very gray day. A little sunshine would be nice.

Hello Crafters I'm glad to hear that you and all your families are still healthy and I hope that continues for all of you. It was milder here today and partly sunny. Looks like clouds are coming in this evening and rain tomorrow. I can tell that more people around here are staying home since the traffic on the busy road my house is on has been a lot less. It's kind of nice not to hear the "roaring" noise the traffic makes all the time. This morning I sewed all the snowball blocks onto the cat quilt blocks. There are 4 on each block and I'm making 8 blocks. Now I'm ready to start piecing the blocks and I hope to finish those this weekend. Then I can decide how I want to layout this quilt because I have the fat quarter with the kittens on it that I want to be part of the quilt. I hope to get this done by the end of this month so I'll be ready to work on the April Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new color is. Hope you all are getting to do some crafting, reading, or just enjoying anything in your homes and yards. Take care and have a great weekend!

CJ, that's going to be so cute with the kittens along with those blocks! I'm glad it's quieter for you. There are some silver linings in this cloud of virus. Sue, guess the puppy was not suspecting anything to happen in the middle of Thfie night.
I went to the mailbox but as I suspected only got one thing that was of interest to me. The rest was all junk mail but at least I got my letter mailed
I'm all finished with the afgan except for the weaving in of ends and I'll make myself do that today. I started it on March 8th but didn't work on it every day and some days just did a little so the last few days I really buckled down and worked on it most of yesterday and the day before. And I even got the kitchen floor washed...those of you talking about that inspired me to get busy and do mine.
Since I only get local channels on my living room tv I watched a show this morning called Quilting art or something like that. Now that's something I would never do. One woman did what she called sun printing and another did sponge painting on fabric. I didn't think that one was nice at all but the sun printing did look nice but it seemed like it would be too expensive and too much work since I didn't like it all that much.
Then Nancy's program came on and she and another woman were making a quilt. It was really nice. I'm thinking of revising my craft cave and moving my sewing machine back out here where I have more space and natural light. I may try a simple quilt or maybe just more of those table runners and other simple things I saw online..maybe. It depends on how many of my crochet projects I finish

Ruth, there are many simple projects for you to dust your machine off with and catch the quilting bug with. Its quite a silly pastime, cutting pretty fabric into small pieces and then sewing it back together again. I think a simpler project will inspire you to make something larger or more complicated. And MSQ has some wonderful tutorials to help motivate. Even a 9 patch pillow is a good way to start. Now, I gotta be honest, you started that cross afghan on March 8th, and I might also finish the afghan on March 27, in 2022! Glad you got your letter mailed.....and with this virus it would sure be nice if all we got was real mail and not junk mail.
Sue- do I dare ask why you decided to trim Danny at 3 am?? (Sounds like something I might do~). Is Danny an older animal? (My 2 older cats have matted fur, which Ds and I are constantly trying to help comb/brush out). Have you grown gladiolus before? I did once, and I remember my FIL had some too. They need to be staked up unless you are growing them next to a wall or fence. But they are so pretty. What veggies are you planning on growing??
CJ- totally agree, its nice to have the world a bit more quiet with less traffic. I heard one observation on the radio, yes there are less cars, but those out are pathetically bad drivers. My Ds echoed that sentiment.Enjoy the quiet and hope you also enjoyed the nice weather. Good for you making progress on the cat quilt! Do you have anything blooming in your yard- I have forsythia and daffodils open here- hope you are seeing some spring color.
Got a bit more work done cleaning up the garden. And I vacuumed the house. My gf and her Dh went to Lowes today, and picked up some lettuce seeds for me. Hope I can get those planted next week....the lettuce and peas will be out of the ground in plenty of time for the warmer seeds to go in.
Time to crochet a bit.... stay well, stay safe. Ginny

My neighbor planted lettuce year before last and gave us some. It was fantastic lettuce. I could plant some but would have to buy or make a rabbit resistant fence or they would eat it all and probably deer would too. Guess I won't bother with zucchini this year. Neighbor planted some last ;year and gave us a couple that were huge. They had very tough skin though. He also gave us some green onions which were great. I hope he will give us some this year.I guess I could try planting those. I don't think that rabbits and deer eat those but I could definiitely be wrong.
Ginny, I'd offer to finish the baby blanket for you but it wouldn't be the same as you making it for your grandchild. Besides I know you'll get it done in time. I remember that the last time you were hurrying to get it done and as soon as you did the baby decided it was time for her to be born.

howdy , howdy, howdy are you ready to have some fun.,let's put on our cowgirl outfits and boots and have a grand ole time at the campfire. the horses are grazing (they won't run off) the conasstogna wagons are ready with our quilts to sleep on and cover up with.
the campfire is a burnin ,we are sitting on tree stumps. the stars are out and it is a nice quiet night. the wranglers are singing to the cows.
cookie is during the cooking.(cook from hallmarks" love comes softly "movies).
this is a cyber party. no damn CV here.
today we went through arby's drive through. we thought the order sounded cheap. the mistake was they only gave us two fish sandwich's we told them small mint shake, small root beer and two onion rings. they fixed it only cost us $ 6.00 and some cents,. their mistake.felt sorry for the cars behind us. wasn't to long of a line.
we don't usually use drive throughs.
Don does not like the car idling and runny out it's gas.
I have not done to much today.
Ruth I do not like quilting arts.alot of their ideas don't interest me and some are over most quilter's head.
I like sewing with Nancy(she died of cancer a couple of years ago. maybe) maybe 3.also like Fons and Porter. liked the show better when they were both on.Did not like the show as much when one's dd was on. the two blonds are ok, maybe one day you will get to see the real mary and marianne.
ruth you have dgd's.do some play with dolls? play around with 3 inch squares, different colors and make them a doll quilt. that way you will be using scraps for the front, scrap batting and backing. that way will get the feel of quilting again.
you could use 2 and 1/2 inch squares. they will take longer to sew and mat
go to youtube.click on beginning quilting. you will find missouri there and others. watch a few of the viedos and try the one you feel the most comfortable with. go for it. phyl.

Ginny, trimming Danny seemed like a good idea! I had to get up, they wanted to go out, and he was very close by! I doubt that I spent ten minutes and then my back started to hurt. That could be the reason I didn't do it before in the daytime! This afternoon I started on his face and did about five minutes worth.
I placed two orders with amazon's Prime Pantry this afternoon. Although I've ordered lots of things from Amazon, I haven't done much with the Pantry before. I'll let you know what I think. Some of the other vendors are doing a lot of price gouging.
I planted glads a long time ago. I'm planning to plant them in a raised bed that is along the driveway. I have cages ? to support them, and there will be a retaining wall behind them to make it easier. There are also lots of pieces of leftover wood in the shop.
I'm not planting lettuce! I am planting carrots, radishes, green bus beans, snow peas, zucchini, yellow summer squash, broccoli, turnips, and lots of sunflowers. Marigolds around the edges should keep creepy crawlies away and provide lots of color. Most areas won't need much prep work.

Phyl, yes a doll quilt sounds like an excellent idea! A couple of my grandaughters are still young enough to play with dolls and my two great grandaughters are both very young so will be playing with dolls. I liked the Fons and Porter show on tv but haven't found it yet this time watching PBS. I'll have to look up and see what time they're on. I've watched a few youtubes for quilting actually.
Sue are ;you going to be able to do all that veggie growing with your back problem? The things you're growing sound wonderful. OUr soil here is horrible and we can't really go to the expense of a lot of soil to make raised beds and also have back problems that would really be painful to try to do a lot of gardening. I do plant cherry tomatoes every year but in very large pots. I start the seeds inside then transplant to the pots outdoors.
I started a baby blanket yesterday. It's a very easy one...sedge stitch. Now I have about 12 baby blankets in progress. Some are completely done except for edging and others are in various stages. I need to find a pattern for Sid the Sloth from the Ice AGe movie. So far I've found only paid patterns so I may have to pay for one. I might be able to look at a picture and figure it out but that takes a lot of trial and error and I think my time is worth more than a couple dollars.
Weather forecast said we would have 1-3 inches of snow yesterday or during the night. We didn't have any at all.

Good evening..... Ruth, another baby blanket!!?? Never heard of that stitch, will have to go check it out online. Bet you are glad you did not get any snow. Sue, glad you are able to get that much in your garden. Mine will be much smaller. Nothing better than fresh green beans... I have trouble with broccoli here, and never found a variety that I liked to grow. And yes those marigolds keep lots of critters away from a garden. Phyl- hope you enjoyed your cyber party. Will have to check out Fons and Porter- sounds like it might be a good show. By the way, what were the wranglers singing to the cows? ? Ha ha ha. Love your sense of humor. Dd came over to do laundry- which we did practicing social distancing. And we went for a walk. Good day. See ya later. G

Hello Crafters Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well and hanging in there, guess that's all we can do. Ruth - Here's a business that has some pretty easy patterns for quilts made with just 3 yards of fabric. You can pretty much figure out how most of them are made without having to buy the pattern, but she does have some patterns that are downloadable: www.fabriccafe.com/quilt-patterns-s/1824.htmAnd like phyl said there are lots of easy patterns out there on the Internet and YouTube. It was cloudy here all day and we had thunderstorms last night. I think it's supposed to be a lot warmer tomorrow. I went out this afternoon and drove both of my cars around the driveway and let them run about 7 minutes. Hopefully this will keep them O.K. I'm debating going to the grocery store this coming week, just not sure I want to do it yet. I've come up with some ideas of how to handle putting the grocery bags of food in my car and how to bring them in the house too. It's just really scary thinking you bring the virus into your house on the packages. Hope everyone is getting to do some crafting, I'm still hoping to work on my quilt this weekend. Take care everyone!

Ginny the stitch does look very nice when you do it properly. I should have used a larger hook. I used #4 ww yarn and the H hook it calls for but I think an I hook or even J would be better as this feels too firm. I may rip it all out. Plus I didn't think I'd have enough yarn to make it large enough even for a car seat blanket. So now I'm working on a C2C blanket. They go really fast and anyone could easily make one a day once you get the hang of it. I do want to make another though that uses half double crochet instead of the dc because that makes the holes almost non existent which is a plus for baby blankets..
CJ, going to look at that site then will be back. Thank you for posting it. I know it will help me

Cj, I went to the site and there are certainly some really great ideas there. I think I will start with the rail fence one so I put that into my search and found a site that has a free pattern and all kinds of diagrams to follow. So once I get into the sewing spirit I'm all set.Thank you so much
Well maybe in your area since it's not like NYC yet, it might be a good idea for you to get out and shop for enough stuff to keep you going for about a month. They have senior only hours here...way too early in the morning for me...but I may have to bite the bullet and get out there and get restocked.Otherwise we'll be living on dried beans because we won't have anything else left.We do have lots of dried beans. I didn't even realize how many.Luckily our pharmacies deliver by USPS.
Don't know if anyone else heard but I did a few days back and forgot to post, but Herrschnerr's sent an email saying they aren't going to be taking orders for shipping as they aren't going to ship anything until further notice. I'm wondering if any of the other companies are going to suspend shipping too. I tried Michael's site today and they seem to be out of stock on their yarns. Luckily I have my huge stash to keep me busy.

Ruth, the split rail pattern is easy and there are lots of free patterns for that online. I made a split rail quilt for my DSIL from a free pattern. I had not heard about Michels and Herrscheners running out of stock. Or course there’s always Walmart and Joanns, but I figure the same would happen to them also. And Ruth, I figure you have a ton of yarn at home....and will be fine for a long time. There are senior hours here also at the grocery stores. And for the sake of you and Dh’s safety, its probably a good idea to take advantage of that.
CJ- I have heard that in many areas (near big cities) its going to get worse before it gets better. If I were you, I would get to the store this week- I know you do not want to, but are entertaining the idea. I figure I am locked in here until mid May and no one I have mentioned that Idea to has said I am wrong. Also in my state they are redefining essential travel....its getting much more restrictive. Just want to make sure you have what you need. I loved that web site, and liked the Heartland pattern. So pretty.....perhaps will give that a try in a while.
I did get a walk in this am- got a bit wet when almost home as it started to rain. But I am home now and dry....going to watch the news (which I DVR’ed while walking) and take a look at that fabric for the baby quilt. Ginny

All the things I've thought about this virus turned out to be wrong but I do think it will last longer than they're telling us and not only that but the economy is going to be bad and things are going to be sold out. That's why I mentioned that I think you should get to the grocery store and get what you can of things that will last such as high protein food such as canned tuna, tuna pouches, even spam, canned or dried beans, and maybe a small canned ham. Laundry detergent which then can be used for other things too if the need arises. Flour, sugar and yeast will help if available. Some things last long after their exp date such as yogurt so stock up.Then get some fresh fruits and veggies if available to eat at first and enjoy them.Frozen fruits and veggies are a good idea too if you have room for them and also canned.Creativity goes a long way at this time to make meals more enjoyable with what you have on hand.
In our small county in the second least populous state in the nation, we are now up to at least 7 confirmed cases. No deaths in our state yet. I'm praying for my friends and family that live in NY.It has to be terrifying. If anyone has not come to a personal and saving relationship with the Lord, now is certainly the time
