Hello Everyone - Hope you and your families are doing well DotRen - I had to laugh at your "adventures" making a mask. I make quilts so I can sympathize with what you went through I've been watching lots of mask making videos too, and reading websites. Someone (MSQC Jenny Doan) suggested using pantyhose if you don't have elastic, she said you know you still have some I made a mask with the cloth ties and it's alright but I want to try one with elastic. I did read that several medical people suggest you don't use flannel, like she does in this tutorial. Here's the MSQC tutorial for that: www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=X_-R8Ox3Spw&feature=emb_logoHere's a link to some instructions to one that looks pretty easy (the elastic one), but I wouldn't leave the slit open for a slid in filter (for myself anyway) I'd just sew it shut: www.madeeveryday.com/fabric-face-mask-free-pattern/sunrose - I'm glad you are still getting to enjoy your Jazzercise classes. We are so fortunate to have the Internet during this crisis, I'm sure it's keeping a lot of people connected, who wouldn't be otherwise. Take care everyone!

cj59, Once I get sewing I'm pretty ok at it lol -but I don't have a lot of patience. The ones I made I used cut up pillow cases and a flannel middle layer for that extra protection. Pillow cases and sheets make good fabric for it. I'm sure I have old twin sheet sets from when JD was in college that I could use if I wanted to make more.

DotRen - I have heard that sheets are good for the masks too because of the higher thread count in the cotton. Hope everyone is doing well today

I normally don't use liquid fabric softener because it leaves a film on cloth that makes it less absorbent, I wonder if it would be a good idea to use it on the mask fabric (or masks when you wash them) so the film adds a minor water repellent layer as well.

DotRen - I don't know. Someone has probably already brought that question up on the Internet Since I'm so sensitive to scents I use unscented detergent and unscented fabric sheets for my laundry. But with these masks I'd be more inclined not to use any kind of softener when washing or drying them. I hate to think of breathing in that stuff. It has concerned me seeing people saying they are putting vacuum cleaner filters in their masks. I've been reading about all kinds of issues with some of the things people are using for filters. I'm just using 2 pieces of fabric for mine and no filter. I've been doing a lot of meal planning again to ration out my food and eating smaller meals, so I guess at least something good has come of this Hope everyone is staying safe and well. Take care!

Howdy - sorry to be MIA
cj, yes we are fortunate to have the internet to stay in touch. Nice that you make quilts :-)
dotren, I didn't think of a pillow to make a mask. I thought I was cleaver the other day when I had a removable bra cup to use. Then my friend said she saw that someone did that.
Amy, nice to have gotten a mask. I have some ordered from Amazon.
I did order some reusable masks from Etsy this morning. Hope they come soon. Waving to all. Take care everyone.

Hello Everyone I'm glad you all are finding/getting masks. It sounds like we are going to be required to wear them in stores, etc. for awhile. I found some disposable ones I had and I'm going to save them for when I go to the store. I have one homemade one and need to make another and I can use those whenever someone comes to my house (fortunately that's not too often). I'd like to buy another box of what I have but I'm sure the stores are completely sold out. I hope that this summer things will be stocked better. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

We took Murray to the vet today, skin acting up (springtime/fall seem to cause a flair up) and it was "call ahead and we'll tell you when to walk him in - only 1 person inside" which was fine. The masks I made are fine for me, but I need to figure out an alteration for Ron so his glasses don't keep slipping. I told him he may need to just put one of those cords on them that keep them in place. I may be able to make the "cheek" area shorter and add some interfacing to the nose area to make it stiffer and stay up there.

DotRen - Sorry to hear Murray is having skin problems again. I had a dog that had that every year too. I'm glad the Vet visit went well.
I'm starting to get to that point where I just want to go out and do some fun shopping, but I know that's not possible. I sure hope things will be better in the next month or so.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. Take care!

Continuing to do my Jazzercise. Eating is not the best. Hang in there and stay safe.

sunrose49, If I may ask, what is the cost of the shot? Murray had one "cytopoint" about 2-1/2 years ago and it was $250! We hesitate to do that too often, the cost is prohibitive and he never, ever scratches himself (the vets don't believe that, but it's true - on the rare occasion he has an itch, he scratches maybe 4 paw passes and is done). We're (the vet and myself) starting to think it's thyroid related since he has a hard time losing weight, has hair loss on his tail and the skin flair ups. I was thinking back and his skin problems started about the same time his weight gain did. They can't test him until his skin is cleared up, so we'll probably at least opt to test his thyroid so we can rule it out or point at it as a problem. Happy Easter all

Still making masks, trying different patterns. I can't figure out if Ron has weird ears, a fat head or is just picky! I've made 8 or 9 masks and he finds something to complain about on each one lol.

DotRen - Hope you can find the pattern that works best for you. I did see a good one yesterday that you might like to watch. It was a bit more work than I want to do (I'm lazy ), but it does seem to make a nice mask: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3igudjup3g (Note: Jordan Fabrics has lots of really nice quilt making videos if you ever want to watch) I've watched so many mask videos, that I can't even stand to think about making one. I did try one last week that had ties and it's alright. I'm going to try one with elastic next. I found some one time use masks that I had on hand and I'm going to save them for when I go to the store since I'm only going once every 3-4 weeks. I'll use the ones I make for when I have to interact with someone at my house - like the guy that mows my lawn. Then I can wash that one. sunrose - I give you a lot of credit for still doing your Jazzercise. I'm sure it's helps you to feel better Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe
