Woke up this morning with a prayerful mind- thinking and praying for our nation- Sue’s DD and Dgd, Ruths DGS and his wife, CJ and Phyl have large families or extended families....I also think of Meg, , each individual who posts here and their families....and the communities we love and live in.

Just checked and saw that Ruth posted late last night!! Were you able to find the yarn for Sid the Sloth?? Somehow, I figure Ruth has a mini MIchaels of yarn in her home...so many different colors. I would think that DDIL is a very organized person, she would have to be to home school her children and be so active. Yes, Ruth somehow you need to come up with a log of what you do- something that is easy to find and not a burden to use, so you can remember what you are make/have made and will make. Just a thought would you also add to that list projects that you want to work on?(nice thing about that is you can check them off as you go!). Just a thought.....you always seem to have so many projects ahead of you which are on queue in your mind.
Prayers continue for our nation. Ginny

Ginny, I woke up in a very thoughtful frame of mind this morning, too. I have to wait until later in the day to make contact with the people about whom I I was thinkining.
Today seems to be a more reflective day as well, and the news is depressing. It's difficult to stay upbeat. I'll settle for somewhat neutral which is possible in isolation. If I were younger I would be one of the volunteers who is out there doing something for others. Yet another fact of old age. I'm glad I can be a sounding board for my DDs and several other people here locally. Some of my strengths when I was working were mediation, listening and hearing, creating a plan, finding solutions, problem solving. While I like being retired and out of the mainstream, quiet and introspective, non directive, a doer instead of a leader, the skills are still there, so in my own way, I'm helping, just on a much smaller scale. Being retired has been a long and cherished sigh of relief!
I'm still debating about a border edging on my teal cap. I took a book of edgings to bed with me and fell asleep!

It's a great thing to be doing right now (and all the time actually) to pray for our country and our countrymen. I saw last evening that the famous place kicker Tom Dempsey succumbed to the virus at age 73. And some people still are not taking it seriously enough so there will be many more deaths than there have been if people don't start using a little comoom sense. Just because you are "allowed" to grocery shop doesn't mean you should make a whole day of it or go often. Of course many people can't stand staying indoors that much but better to get used to that than to die. My rant for today.
I'm going to get that notebook out and get started.I finally wove in all the ends on the Cross afgan. There were quite a few but it's now completely done. Didn't look for Sid's yarn last evening so will do that today too...in fact in just a few minutes. Now there will be something I'll have to make myself do and that is to sew together the parts. I have a bag full of stuffies that need their parts sewn together too. And you aren't going to believe this but I still have to sew the horns on the Viking hats.
Have a good day everyone and I hope that you will all find something to do that you enjoy.
I'm also praying for everyone here.

Sue, its hard not to despair in a situation like this- and especially knowing that you have family members who are or have been sick. How is your Dd doing, is she now considered disease free?? And how is DGD doing- I hope that at least electronically you are able to keep in touch with them. I look to the countries that are starting to come out of this crisis (Not china of course, I do not believe a word of what they say!) and my faith to keep me afloat. This is horrible and many lives will be lost.... It does seem as though at least in NYC that the curve is starting to flatten- and there is hope that maybe we are seeing the impact of what many are doing to keep the infection from spreading. That is one source of encouragement. I have found some comfort in writing thank you notes to others (which I had an excuse to do) which helps me by with the hope that perhaps I am making others feel better. You will find some way for you to feel like you are able to contribute, and still stay out of harms way.
Ruth, yes many are STILL not taking this horrible virus seriously- and I cannot fathom how they possibly think they are immune from this mess. There are many public service announcements here indicating that you should get in and out of the store quickly and only send one person there, not the whole family. I did not stay indoors today, but walked to the pond, fed the geese and then Ds and I worked outside in the garden. Got peas planted and lettuce too- knowing that we have rain coming in a day or so and it would help in the garden. Glad you will get that notebook out to document what you are doing!! Someone in your family perhaps one of your Indiana grandchildren will love to see what you and done and perhaps take inspiration from that. My DSIL in Florida made a magnificent afghan for Dd#2 when she was a baby- its so impressive that complete strangers have commented on its beauty and DSIL cannot remember what pattern she made it from!! Your crochet log could become a real blessing to your family.....and you too!!! Hope you find Sid’s yarn.
So my knee and hip hurt, well not too bad after advil. Gotta stay low key for the rest of the day. My body can no longer take digging in the dirt- it just jars that bad knee and hip (which has bursitis). Thankfully the bursitis and knee to calm down if I rest them. Resting is not something I do well. Ha ha ha.
Think I am going to shower to make sure I did not bring in a new resident to the house with me when in the garden- aka a tick. Unfortunately, its that time of year.
Ds and I am doing leftovers for dinner - so then I can iron the quilt top and start on the quilt sandwich. I might make one more mask for myself (so I have a spare) and then officially play with fabric. Ginny

Hello Crafters Hope you are all doing well today. Sounds like we are all keeping busy doing things around the house and crafting. Hopefully it will help the time go by and we'll be back to normal again. It was a nice sunny mild day here. Looks like the milder weather is here for a bit except for a few high 50s days in the next week. I clipped the snowballed corners of the quilt blocks I sewed on this weekend and trimmed the smaller ones for the Broken Dishes block. I like working with blue fabrics and the blue and white together is pretty. I hope to work on piecing in the next few days. Each month I make 8 Bowtie blocks (2 for each of the 4 blue fabrics), the Broken Dishes block (that's the small one) and then 8 Hourglass blocks that I use two other blue fabrics for. I sew the 8 Hourglass blocks into a block with 4 hourglasses in each one - so that gets me two blocks. I sew 4 of the Bowtie blocks into one block, and I keep the other 4 Bowtie blocks as singles. This way I'm going to be able to get 2 quilt tops out of these. It's been easy to keep up since these are easy blocks. A lot of quilters that do this challenge make much more complicated blocks and also work on multiple projects each month using the color of the month. Take care everyone!

hi girls, they just announced on our local news: people making face masks not to use see through material to thin. also tee shirt material will not work.that's all I know about that. people will do what they want.they may have been talking about the ones people are making for health care workers.
I have not checked this one out yet.www.makermasks.org;masks/surge.was on another thread. I cannot open it so will see if I and google it. here google ,google.lol guess they say out of grocery bags. plastic or paper?
I did not do much today.shower talked to Delona puzzed in the basement.
I think there may alot of sites popping up on how to do this or that. just because the say gov. or cdc does not mean they could be true.
thanks for the prayers Ginny. I think we all are praying for our families, friends and the world.
our governor was on late afternoon asking the people to stay home and do not go vote tomorrow.he was waiting for the state supreme court vote on it. they over ruled him.& % & $# *&%#^*
when our leaders are telling us stay home it will be bad.a GOVERNOR wanted to wait till june. only a primary.phyl

Sue, your feelings of despair are certainly understandable. I know it's a great worry when you have family members who are especially susceptable to complications. I, too hope that your dd is well now and your dgd is well on her way to complete recovery. It's great though that you can still be of help to others regardless that you are retired.
Ginny, there sure is nothing wrong with being outside just walking where there are no other people or to work in your garden. And it's great that your ds is helping with the planting. I've never grown peas but it would be a good thing to do as we eat lots of peas. I have my cups of soil all ready to put the tomato seeds into.I may do that this evening. It sure doesn't take long to put a seed in each cup since everything is ready for them. I'm sorry to hear that your gardening is making your knee and hip worse. Yes rest is what it needs but we often can't do that completely.
I thought I was going to have to improvise on the Sid color but I lifted up a box and there was a large skein of just the color I need in the box underneath. It's RH super saver and I did want a softer yarn but in all reality it's a toy.I'm also working on some donate hats to use up some of these small balls of leftover yarn.I'm not good at putting colors together but it's amazing how great they do sometimes look together would you would never think they would. So after I get my bills done online I'm going to get that notebook and keep it handy so that I can look back. Yes there have been times when I wish I knew what pattern I used for a certain thing.

Phyl, didn't see ;you there. Yes we get all kinds of info and not all of it is true. Just like in the beginning we were kind of led to think it wouldn't be serious here or at least that's what I got. Now they seem to be telling us it's almost over. Who knows. I saw a Dr on tv this morning who was very honest and to people's questions admitted that for most of those questions they really didn't know the answers.
I would say that most of my fabric would be too thin but then I'd use several layers and I'd make a lot so that I could throw them away after each use. I don't intend to go out though so it's a moot point. Of course if this keeps up too long I may completely run out of things esp if the online sources are not shipping. In Matthew the 6th chapter, Jesus Himself tells us not to worry. That of course doesn't mean to sit back and do nothing. It means plan and do your best, seek His help, and He will see that all works out.

Ruth, well that is great news that you found your “Sid” yarn. And as its a toy, durability should be the most important thing- RH supersaver should be perfect. (Does supersaver ever wear out???) Of course we are not supposed to worry- how right you are. In the Lord’s Prayer we are to ask for our daily bread. I pray for all here that our needs are met as we face some challenging and different times in the next few weeks or so.
Phyl, my gosh there is so much “advice” on how to make masks....I just watched one that Viking Sewing (they have the sewing machine “stores” in Joanns store) on how to make masks and recommended HEPA filter vacuum bags as filter agents. Make sense, yes. But not sure that vacuum bags are safe for use....and yes I agree that if a fabric is too thin that will not work. The masks I made (and think CJ was going to use that also) call for double thickness of fabric. I agree with you its just all so confusing.
CJ- blue and white is such a pretty combination- very crisp and cheery. Don’t blame you for making easy blocks. Think I would do the same and go with something easy but pretty.
Got the quilt top ironed, now its time to put it all together and start quilting.
Have a good night all. Ginny

CJ, I missed yours too. I think the blue and white is pretty also and you're smart to make easy blocks. Sometimes the easiest and simplest turn out to be the best in all ways. Your temps are colder than ours right now it sounds like but I wish these forecasters could get all their ducks in a row. Earlier they said all this week would be in the high 50's and some 60's. Today was 64 at least. They said on the weekend it would only be 50..well now they're saying that on Sat the high will be only 38. Even though I know the weather here is very fickle esp in the spring, it's depressing to me that it's going to get colder again. I know from past experience of almost every year we have snow even in May and even toward the end of that month. I love warm weather as you all know because I complain about cold often enough.
I don't know how durable Sid is going to be because he has those two big eyes at the side of his head which could easily be ripped off. I'm going to sew them well and those grandboys are well behaved so Sid may last longer for this grandson than he ever would have for my dd's children when they were that age. They were, to say the least, very active children...ok, destructive.
Ginny. congratulations on getting the quilt top all done and ironed. I hope the sandwiching and quilting goes well.

Totally agree that sometimes the more simple the block the prettier. And it also means that it stands a greater likelihood of being done because of its simplicity. A win win for sure.
Ruth, I forgot how cute Sid the Sloth is! Just looked at his picture and I loved the movie Ice Age and enjoyed watching it when our kids lived home. And you know, kids are just....well they are kids. I am sure you will make Sid strong enough to endure the love and play of little ones.
Think we are in for another day of mid 60’s here. Other than watering those pea plants, I am staying away from gardening. My knee is still sore. Think resting it is in order.
Stay safe, stay welll Ginny

We're going to have two warm days (50s) before there's a colder spell and snow heading this way. I can now walk in part of the backyard along half the road that goes to the upper double gate!
Just for clarification, I'm not in a state of despair. I feel thoughtful and meditative which is very different.
A partial Amazon order arrived this morning, and it's in the garage now. hb is going to have to.become a little more flexible about beverages. He's avoiding water from our well which has been tested and is fine. Because of his problem with logical thinking, I'll have to find a way around this v
I had coffee with my property manager this morning. She was at her house, and I was in mine! No zoom or skype, just a conversation. Her children are adults, but they're having trouble with the concept of social distancing, staying in place., acceptance. It seems to be an age thing. Job security, furloughs, other issues that are also present in this college community.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I can't believe they are still having voting in person during this time - especially when they have other options! I agree all about the information on masks. I've seen so many different patterns and tutorials, I guess people will just have to pick whatever one they are able to make for ourselves. Ginny - I hope your knee is feeling better. Do you iron your quilt on an ironing board? I bought one of those big board ironing board tops years ago and have never used it because I don't have a place to set it up. The ironing boards I have are too flimsy to hold it steady. Ruth - I hope that Sid is enjoyed and I'm sure he will be. I saw a post on one of the sites I was looking at for mask instructions and the lady said she used 16 inch chain stitched yarn pieces to make her ties. I thought that was interesting. Sue - That was nice that you were able to have coffee with your property manager. It does seem like this situation is harder for the younger people who are so used to socializing with others. Meg - If you are checking in I hope that you and your family are well. It's a cloudy day here and we might get some thunderstorms. I'm hoping the mail is delivered before it rains. I didn't get yesterday's mail since it was all bills so I'd like to get that and today's at the same time. I finished piecing all my monthly blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this morning. I only had to rip out a few seams Need to pay better attention. It was on the small Broken Dishes block. This block has 16 half square triangles that are only 1 1/2 inches square each. The whole block is only 5 1/2 inches square finished. It's the layout of it that I needed to be careful with. Here's what the block looks like: www.quilterscache.com/B/BrokenDishesBlock.htmlIt's good to have all these done for the month and now I can work on something else. Take care everyone!
