Sue, sorry I misinterpreted what you said but a glad you are not despairing. WE're to get the same weather...60's this week ...weekend snow and cold
CJ, I love that quilt. I might be able to make something like that. Fons and Porter is on tv now and they're making a beautiful quilt but I'd never be able to do it. They have a little plastic thing so that they can cut off points on the squares and another piece. Now they're looking at a flower garden block someone sent in.
Lion Brand is having a free shipping offer if you order their yarn on Joann's site. At least that's what it looks like to me. Now if they had free shipping on their own site I might order some of the new Mandala colors. At any rate Joann's does have the free shipping on Lion yarn but they don't have the new colors.

So I got sidetracked again. Instead of starting on Sid I started a star shaped baby blanket last night and have been working on it today. It's one of those things that you give to someone just because it's pretty and you know they aren't going to use it as a blanket because there are holes. My neice lives in southern Calif so it's warm there and a blanket would only be used probably for a tummy time on the floor rather than for warmth. I could send her one of my c2c blankets for when the baby is in a car seat when the a/c is on and for in stores, etc where it's cook. Plus I just wanted to conquer the challenge of making something star shaped although I did do two smaller ones with a different pattern to make lovey's (which I haven't made the animal to put on them yet) Do we all have UFO's or is it just me.

Ruth, got me howling again!! We ALL have UFO’s- stuff we started and for some odd reason never finish or finish at a much later date. Your focus on what you make is quite something, I figure you are checking out new patterns a lot, as you always have something new, interesting and challenging to work on. Do you have a deadline for Sid??? Wow that stinks that Joanns does not have the newer colors of Mandala. Guess they are trying to reduce inventory to make room for the new colors.
Sue, I have no idea how to make Hb drink your perfectly safe water. what about if you made an infusion or iced tea with it (and therefore its not water anymore, is its?) It must be so challenging for you to try to stay one step ahead of Hb and I am sure its impossible to predict a lot of the time what his moods/wants will be. Bet its extra challenging too that you cannot get out, and have no or little respite care. I enjoyed reading about your long distance visit with your property manager. You are so right, there are so few who do it properly.
CJ- you had shared the broken dishes quilt block before and its even prettier the second time!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Simple but so elegant. My ironing board??? ha ha ha. I went to Lowes and bought a 24 x 24 inch weather resistant pressed wood board (think it is 3/4 an inch thick) . First I covered it with batting (used a staple gun to attach the batting to the back) and then covered that with a piece of white muslin fabric. Its super portable (took it down to NC with us in the fall) and I put it on a table top. Its a nice large size and because its on a table top, not wobbly at all. Total cost ( I had the batting and muslin in the house) was about $10. The larger square size accomodates 12 inch quilt blocks well. So that is my fancy ironing board.
Listening to the President now. Looks like maybe, just maybe the spread is slowing in NYC....so all the shelter in place orders are working. Please Lord, let it be so.
Going to work on the quilt sandwich. Have a wonderful night all

Nope no deadline for Sid. I want to get him done before we take a trip there but that won't be until fall so I have lots of time. I would like to just get him done soon though so I can cross him off my list and know that he's done.
I love the idea of your ironing board. I have a regular one that's pretty old and a cover never would stay on it properly. I did use it recently, though, when I did the table runners. Other than that I don't use the ironing board much now that I'm not working. If I do have to iron a shirt or something I usually just put it on the living room floor which has carpeting and iron it there.

My church quilting buddy was the motivation to the ironing board. Not sure if she made one herself or if I saw directions online. Pretty sure I saw directions and adapted them to the materials I had at home. Dh was insistent that I get the thicker and exterior grade board (so it could take some moisture )for the base. I love it- and when I am quilting in the dining room ( as I am now) its so easy to store and use.
Got the quilt sandwich assembled....and a little bit of crocheting time in last night.

A dining room is a great place to use as your craft area. I used to use mine a lot back when I did more sewing. It was the only place large enough to cut fabric. I don't use it for "dining" so why not for crafts.
Sounds like you got a lot accomplished last night, Ginny. And CJ worked on and finished her blocks for the month. Sue probably worked on her hat. Speaking of that, I was working on a hat the other day on the ribbed brim part and dh thought I was making it for a headband for me to keep the hairs out of my face so I tried it on and it worked great. So I started the brim of the hat over and got that one done. Now I have a big total of three hats in my donate bag...gotta work more on that. I did work on the star shaped blanket last evening. It's so much fun.

Ruth, so glad you find so much joy in making those hats for others....love hearing about your escapades with yarn and all the cool things you make. You are such an encouragement to us all to keep on crafting.
Well started the free motion quilting on the baby quilt. In the middle of it all, now the stitches are getting wonky. Not sure why but I have stopped, will retread the needle and try again on a sample piece of fabric. Hopefully the new machine will be here soon. This baby is due in mid June, so I have time. Ginny

Funny how things go. At 6:20 I got a text from the shop owner that my machine was in!!! I went to her house to pick it up (she lives less than 10 minutes from me). Its sitting in my car- and I am letting the carton detox in there. Will bring it in tomorrow morning.

That's fantastic that you got the new machine. Now you just have to play with it a little to get used to how it works and your all set to finish the quilting. I bet a lot of sewing will be going on at your house in the near future! Still nice and sunny here but Sun they changed to forcast to say the high will be only 23.Some EAster weather we're having...blahhhhhh.
I worked on the star shaped blanket last evening and you would not believe how many times I had to start over after ripping it all out. There were also some ripping out of rows. You know how stubborn I am though. I couldn't let it get the best of me. I seem to be on track now and it's almost up to lovey size but I'll keep going to blanket size. I'm not sure when I'll start on Sid and I think that after dh wakes up and I get my chores done I'll get my UFO's together and start working on those too a little at a time and whittle the pile down.I did get my book together to keep track of what I make and also found my old book. It's interesting looking back to see what all I made. It's also upsetting to see the fingerless gloves that I made for ddil on that list and remember that they changed the pattern to a paid one.

Be careful with things like painting ceilings, Ginny! I hope you are having fun exploring with your new sewing machine. That's exciting.
This morning I put the dishes in the dishwasher, put clothes in the washing machine and let the machines do the hard work while I took out the woofers and walked around the backyard with the woofers.
Last night I enjoyed the super moon one day late and then enjoyed watching it set this morning. A robin or two or three were in sight during our walk, I think the Sandhills cranes may have arrived at the creek near by, spring is arriving in tiny irregular increments.
My hat is finished. I decided against a fancy edging.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm happy you were able to pick up your new sewing machine, I look forward to hearing how it works once you get a chance to use it. Ruth - I'm glad the star shaped blanket is coming along, I bet that is going to look really pretty when it's done. Sue - Sounds like you are getting to enjoy a lot of nature around your home. Phyl and Meg - Hope you are both getting some crafting done. It's a sunny day here, but cool and very windy. I thought March was the windy month I'm going to make a small quilt using a few fat quarters and a bit of other yardage. I think it will turn out to be a small square quilt and if the top doesn't finish too large then I want to try to make it reversible so that I can enjoy the backing fabric I want to use. I pressed the fat quarters and the yardage today and squared up the fat quarter I'm going to put in the middle of the quilt. Hopefully I can work on it again over the next few days. Take care everyone and stay safe and well

Good evening,
Ruth, its no surprise to us that you continued to tough out that star afghan until you got it right. You seem to have a ton of patience for that. I would have walked away from that long ago in frustration and just worked on something easier. Of course it must be interesting to see all that you have made in the past- and its great that you located the book of past projects. The baby afghan I am making for DGS#2 was originally a free pattern, and when I wanted the download to copy had to pay 99 cents. But this is the third afghan I have made from the pattern so I guess I got my money’s worth. I am sure that you will get to Sid when its time...good for you to work on some UFO’s just getting them done and gifted, used or donated makes more room for future projects.
Sue, yes the super moon is SO pretty!! (Caught a glimpse of it 2 days ago). And huge. Are you happy with how your hat turned out??? Yes Spring is coming, but I think teasing us all. Sounds like you and Ruth will be cold- even here in NY the temperature dropped a lot and its cold and windy now. (Which for me is just fine, I love the feel of fuzzy clothes). Good for you letting the electronic devices take care of what they are supposed to do- so you got some time outside with the dogs. Hope it was refreshing. Did you find a way to get your husband to accept drinking your water?
My gimpy leg was a bit strange this am, so I watched a show on Netflix and took an hour off. That was all I needed as I was able to slowly get the ceiling painted. If I go slowly and carefully it all seems to be ok. I will need to put on a second coat tomorrow, which should go much easier. And I am using up leftover paint, which pleases me a lot. Hopefully Saturday I can paint the walls (do not have much wall space to paint so that should go quickly). I had no time to play with my machine, but the weather is supposed to stink next week (several days of rain). That sure sounds like it will be time to play with my new toy!
Hope CJ is ok...I hear that the Beltway area- Washington DC/Baltimore/ Maryland area is considered the next hot spot for this Covid pandemic. I know she is very cautious and careful- just want the best for her.
Phyl must be going nuts without being able to get out bummin. Hope she is doing well too and has lots of projects to keep herself busy.
Take care Ginny

I didn't even look out so didn't see the super moon.
It's great that you're using up some left over paint, Ginny. I need to do that also. I have a lot of leftovers and also full cans that have never been opened. I had three gallons of the paint I used in the bedroom.Dh didn't think it would be any good because it was so old but it was perfect. We have to finish in the bedroom because it's a long room and we did only half. It's a huge chore to move all the furniture out of the way.I hope you can get your kitchen done safely. As Sue said, be careful and have your cell phone with you in case you need to call someone for help. This is me being bossy
I'm not a very patient person. It's just that I was making this mainly just to learn how so I wanted to keep at it until I got it. Funny story about this pattern. It's on Yarnspiration site...a Red Heart pattern. So when it was giving me problems I went there to see if they had a video and they did. Well the person doing the video pointed out that you couldn't do the stitches the way you normally do...you have to do the new stitch in a different part of the stitch you're going into than you would in other things you make. Also he showed how you made a stitch into a spot that also is not crocheted into in any other pattern. You also have to start each round in a very different way that what you would think from reading the pattern. I'm glad I gave in and watched that video. No one could make this pattern without having a great deal of difficulty by just following the written pattern. I still have to really concentrate or I slip into the "normal" way of doing things and end up with not enough stitches

Good Morning all, CJ- so sorry I missed you yesterday! Guess I was busy blabbing when you got here. Its always good to hear from you, and especially good to know that you are doing ok. How is your family doing? I know you have a lot of family not too far away- hope they are healthy and staying safe also. Like you, this month is turning out to be windy. We have to stay inside anyway, so its not a bad thing I guess. I like the sound of your quilt- and Its always exciting to work its fabrics that you really love. Enjoy that- watching how favorite fabrics work together in the pattern.
Ruth- well you are patient!! Doubt I would ever want to watch a video of a different way to make a crochet stitch. I can barely muddle through as I do with patterns I know reasonably well. I am sure you will do just fine with this pattern and it will turn out very well. What color yarn are you working with? Is it another Mandala color scheme?
Slept ok last night. My knee is so unpredictable. Two nights ago, it hurt badly at night but once I got up, it was actually very good. Last night it was very good, and today hurts. I cannot make any sense out of it. So I will rest it a bit, but finish the ceiling, which should go much more quickly today because I am touching up areas that need more paint and not covering the whole ceiling. I do want to finish off this second half gallons (its not quite a half gallon) of paint, so I have one less paint can to store.
Lets see how today goes, if I get brave enough to take the new machine out. Have a good day all Ginny
