We don't get a refund, we always have to pay but they still know my address and my bank info since the payment is sent directly from my bank since I do online banking.
CJ, I loved Sue Grafton's books but she died. She is the one that had books following the alphabet...A is for alibi, etc" she said she was going to stop writing when she got to Z but she got to Y and that was the end. Another author that I read also died...well two of them actually. The family of one got someone to take over the writing, one for each of the series he wrote. The other author's son finished his last book after he died. I onlyh put out my garbage every two weeks too and, like you, even less frequently when the weather is bad.
Ginny, soon your whole house will be newly painted. You are a busy woman.
People say that masks are hard to find including the fabric ones. My sister works as a deli clerk at a grocery store so is still working. She ordered masks from Amazon and very quickly received them. I would have made her some but didn't think about it in time.

No stimulus here, at least not yet. I started to look on line , but I would have had to move to another room to get the needed info. S[.
The sun was shining, and it was warmer, so the woofers and I took two different walks to the big gate in the backyard. The snow is almost down to the point where it was a week ago. A few days on the low 60s, and it will disappear.
While I'm waiting for my brioche yarn, I'm playing with some light blue blue tonal fingering (Stroll) yarn. There isn't enough for a shawl, but there's enough for a roughly 6" x 70" scarf. I frogged about 8" this morning because :it was too wide. I've added five 2 stitch arches to three rows, that are two rows apart. apart on the first end and will do the same on the other end.
This afternoon I talked to both my daughter. Exercise, good company, some laughs. I downloaded some hat patterns from Ravelry in preparation for a hat some day. Dinner was leftovers.
I've been watching some irresponsible news casts tonight from both sides. Good grief. I have no words.

Sue, it sounds like that yarn would be perfect for a triangle scarf which as you probably know is just a small shawl which is usually work with the point in the front then the ends to the back then brought forward. I'm glad to hear that you and the doggies are getting out into the yard. Be careful on that snow and possible ice.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and having some nice weather this weekend. Ruth - I read about that author passing away before her last book came out, that must have been very disappointing/sad for all her readers. Ginny - I rarely re-read any books these days. I used to do it a lot when I was younger. But there are so many new releases each month, it keeps me busy just reading them. But there are a few books I have read several times. One the stockpiling groceries, I wonder if it might be different in different parts of the country. Everyone around where I live who has gone to the store in the last several weeks has told me that there are still a lot of shortages. Almost no frozen food, very little meat and dairy and bread, and canned/dry foods limited too. It concerned me that the stores can't seem to get stocked back up so I have to wonder if they are either not getting deliveries or people are just buying them out as soon as they put the food out. Sue - Hope you found some good hat patterns. Phyl and Meg - Hope you are doing well. It's sunny here today, but breezy and a bit cool. I've been surprised how many windy days we've had in April, I always thought it was March that used to be so windy. I made two more face masks today using the Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial with the elastic loops. I did make my fabric pieces a bit larger since I saw a suggestion to fold down the top of the mask just about 1/2 inch to stop fogging of your glasses and I found that worked. This gives me four masks - 3 with elastic loops and 1 one with fabric ties. That's all I'm making since I'm not very good at this type of sewing and I don't feel competent making these. This should be all I need for me for awhile. I might have mentioned that I'm also doing a mystery quilt this year. It started in January and runs through August. The next clue came out yesterday so I pulled out my fabric pieces to get ready to sew them together. I hope to get that done this weekend. You were able to choose from a table topper size to a king bed size for this mystery pattern. I'm just doing the table topper in case I don't like the final pattern or I thought in case it was too complicated. You just never know what a pattern is going to be when you don't have all the instructions at once Hope you are all getting some crafting in. Take care!

CJ, I definitely found that when I was working. We had masks on for the majority of the day because we did a lot of procedures that required Mask. Anyway, what I found was that my glasses always steamed up if I didn't have the top of my mask tightened. So It sounds like your way would be a lot easier than trying to put in a piece of wire or pipe cleaner. Do you fold the top down then sew or do you just leave it large enough that the person wearing in, you in this case, can just fold the top down after putting it on?
I've been watching videos today on how to make masks that you sew. I'm thinking of making some for us and the neighbors.I don't know if they even need any but once the masks are done I'll call and tell them I'll leave them on either their porch or mine and they can pick them up.
On the online site where they talk about making masks for our local hospital the woman said a doctor told her that they needed to be larger. I think most people cut their fabric to 9x6 so she suggested 10 and I can't remember the height she mentioned.Since I do have hospital masks here I'll measure against them and add for seam allowance but I'd love to know what size all of you cut your fabricI guess I'll finish dh's crochet mask first them look thru my fabric and cut. I'm going to make the ones with fabric ties.I always liked ties better than the ear elastics.I used to have tons of bias tape which would have worked well but I donated it years ago since I never used it but one of the women in a video showed her nice way of getting the fabric into thirds using crossed pins that she guided it through

Two walks to the big gate with the woofers today.
After loading the dishwasher, I made a big package of jello with mandarin oranges and diced peaches. Then I made cornbread with a can of corn added. After that I made a date muffin mix in a flat pan.
I crocheted about six inches on the blue scarf and will do several more tonight.
After one of my trips outside I folded some clothes and made a small dent dent in the huge pile still waiting.
Still thinking about the rest of dinner.

Sue,after seeing you mention cornbread a couple times I may have to make some too. I did finish dh's crochet mask...which he will wear over another mask. And I also got all the fabric out for the cloth masks. I made spaghetti sauce...and no, Ginny, I meant to tell you that I don't make it from scratch. I take ground meat of some kind, brown it, add onions, jalapenos and the seasonings, get the seasonings a little toasted..well that's when I add the onions, etc, then add jarred sauce. I made cookies yesterday that were eggless but haven't baked them yet so we'll see how those turn out. Did you all know that all our mandarin oranges are now from China. They used to be from Thailand so no one checks.I discovered that a couple years ago and check all the available brands...all from China. I don't really mind...or haven't until now...buying things made in China since almost every thing IS made there but foods I don't want from there.

I am sure against everything being from China! Watching The Crown and getting some crocheting in. My county executive gives. A daily update on how the local supermarkets are doing.

Ruth - I just turned down the top edge of my mask about 1/2 inch once it was on and made sure my glasses rested on top of it and that worked for no fogging. I did play with putting a grocery tie (that has a small wire in it) underneath the turned down and it didn't seem to be any different than not using it, but a pipe cleaner might work better.
I also cut my fabric pieces 7-7 1/2 inches by 9 inches. Most patterns were calling for 6x9 and the 6 inches from my nose to under my chin after putting in pleats and turning it down at the top was too short.
A few months ago I bought a container of sliced peaches from Dole. It was about a 20 ounce plastic jar. After I'd had a serving of it I noticed on the jar it said the peaches were from China!!! I almost couldn't bring myself to eat the rest of them but since the first serving hadn't made me sick, I did finish them. I just couldn't believe there was nowhere else in the world that the USA could get peaches from. It's just kind of crazy.
Ginny - That's nice that your county executive gives a briefing like that. I've been reading that since my state put out a zip code map of the number of viruses in each zip code that people in the higher cases zip codes are going to do their shopping in the lower cases zip codes, and the news people were telling people not to do that - not that anyone will listen to them.
And another local county put out the suggestion that people should only shop on certain days as assigned by the first letter of their last name. This caused a panic and everyone rushed the grocery stores and wiped them out. The county came back and said they weren't going to do that, of course it was after everyone panicked.

CJ, I only ever bought fruit in that 20 plastic jar once when it was on a good sale and it never occurred to me to check where it was from. Having peaches from China is ridiculous. Billions of peaches are grown here in the US. That's crazy. I would probably have sent Dole an email. I do know that many things we would not even suspect are from China. I think I mentioned this on here before so sorry if it's a repeat but one day when I was in our Kroger store an older man (probably my age) asked me if I could look at the can of some kind of spice he had in his hand and tell him if it said what country it was from. Yes, China. Now I order all my herbs and spices online and make sure they're from here.
It sure is strange what all gets people into panic mode! And they probably thought they were at a lower risk by shopping in a lower case county but all they really did was spread the virus even further.
I'm back to working on my crochet blanket. The one that doesn't need an edging or border.

Oh and thank you for describing the fold down and mentioning the attempt to use something with a wire in it for the nose of your mask.

I found that 9 x 6 was a good dimension for masks for me. Of course everyone is different and modification to the individual is fine. And for me, I prefer using. 1/4 inch elastic, which I thankfully had in the house. The 6 inch will be folded /pleated to accommodate fitting over a nose and chin. I have heard of folks using floral wire (as CJ suggested using twist ties) in the top to provide a fit over your nose. I understand the problem, but honestly am not overly concerned about it. Yes I wear glasses so fogging is an issue. I have just found that by adjusting the mask a bit I get a good enough fit so its not a huge problem.
I am tired of China. One good thing to come out of this disaster would be if we pulled manufacturing back to our nation, or nations we can trust.
I think that the proximity to NYC is why the county exec is doing the update. He is also a member of the Army reserve - so that does make him a bit more security minded. His updates last about 5 minutes, full of statistics and usually include a nice story about something nice that has happened in the county. Normally it includes a local diner or organization that is bringing food into the local hospital in support of hospital staff. I am very thankful that he provides the update- and I am keeping track of the daily cases....which have leveled off but not gone down much yet.
Sue,glad you are getting out with the dogs for walks...fresh air is so uplifting.
CJ- glad you have been able to modify the mask dimensions so that it works perfectly for you. think your approach is right- just shop when you need to and skip all awkward shopping suggestions. If I know you, it will be a few weeks before you go to a store.
Ruth- I saw yesterday that Indiana is one of the states doing fairly well with Covid and that entering Phase 1 is very possible. hat do you hear from Ds and his family? Hope they are doing ok.
got a little bit of crocheting done last night after Dd left. It was good to see her.
Joining Dd#1 and her little ones for a short hike this morning.
Hi to Phyl and Meg Ginny

Good morning, I should have watched a few youtube videos on the Olsen masks.so I was not the only one having trouble.
they have tweak the pattern. say the original video is confusing. they agree something is wrong with the printed pattern.
as for pipe cleaner and anything else I can not get it to stay in the mask.so one video shows cutting an inch of fabric and folding it over ,stitch it the long way.
then sewing it on the mouth piece where the Olson video say to use double sided skin tape. this will create a 1/2 inch for the item to go through. I am going to try it.
I had wondered about doing this. instead of using 6 pattern piece use 3 and fold old over the fabric before cutting the pieces out.
we did get the upstairs cleaned yesterday basement will have to get worked on tomorrow. Phyl.

One of my brothers lives in Niagara Falls and he showed a picture where someone made a lot of maks, packaged them individually in plastic bags and taped each one to a light pole or other sign all along one of their major streets. Most people are helping others....some are putting others at risk.
Phyl, I know it feels good to have the house in order again. You'll get the basement done don't worry.
Ginny, it's great that you can meet your family in a way that it's not a risk to yourself, them, or others
CJ, thanks again for the info on the masks. My favorite video is one with ties and it's very easy. Doesn't have the nosepiece but I'll see if I can do what you do, Ginny, and if not I'll find a way to put in a pipe cleaner. I have lots of those.

Yeah, pipe cleaners would work for sure. I had a neighbor ask about masks, and I gave mine away to my kids (had 4 now, have 2 masks) so I must make a few more. Not that I am going anywhere special, but we have to have them on.
We hiked (1/2 mile in, 1/2 mile out) to a lovely small waterfall that is along the Appalachian trail. The grandkids LOVED it. I had always wanted to go there and for some reason Dh was always against it. Short hike yes, but the waterfalls were wonderful.
Ruth, I am sure you will figure out someway to get the pipe cleaners in the mask- I actually have some jewelry wire that is a bit heavier than floral wire. Might try using that and see how it goes.
Phyl- housekeeping is so patient.....all the straightening up will get done when its meant to be done. Making masks is more important- as I think we should be using them until they have a vaccine. Just my opinion.
Hard to believe its another Monday right around the corner.my crafting today was to clean up my craft room- and to try to organize it a bit.
Night all Ginny
