Interesting thread! Here in TN our Governor is also bowing to the pressure from the protesters and the tweets from the WH and planning to open things back up I believe too soon. That worries me a lot. TN has not done nearly enough testing, and our numbers are climbing instead of going down. This past weekend there were some drive through sites offering tests, but it was only for the weekend. In my county, I think around 1,000 people went for the test, but those results are not back yet and still the Governor announced yesterday that he will not extend the stay-at-home order past April 30. Also he said that some businesses may be allowed to open again as soon as Friday. He has been very weak leading the state through this from the start. He was much slower than our local Mayor at shutting things down. He did say that counties who have their own health departments (mine is one of those 6 out of 95 counties in the state) can make their own determination about when to open, but if the Governor has thrown open the gate then businesses are going to reopen regardless. And my county/city is the regional center for all of the western portion of my state except for the Memphis area so people from all the small towns/counties will be swarming in to shop, go to restaurants, etc. I am very afraid that this is going to be a mistake with serious consequences.

Dr. Scott Gottleib was being questioned today on CNBC on Georgia's reopening of hair salons, nail parlors, tattoo places, massage parlors, gyms, I believe it's tommorow? The good doctor said it's like they picked a list of the most likely businesses to spread the disease. Friday they're going for restaurants and theaters. The guv said they would need to maintain social distancing. Huh? How's that going to work? The mayors are disagreeing.
There were protests in San Diego and Sacramento yesterday. I sympathize with those living paycheck to paycheck. I should say, who were living paycheck to paycheck; now it's paycheck to nothing. A one time stimulus check is not going to go far, especially here with the cost of living. The small business loans have been a disaster, at least judging from the businesses around here. Most have applied and heard nothing back.

Santa Fe did have a protest yesterday. About 15 - 20 cars drove around near the capitol building honking horns and carrying signs. The big push was for the governor to reopen small businesses. There may be another rally on Friday. In the paper it was reported there was more press and bystanders (all distanced of course) than there were protesters.

If they are purposely spreading a killer virus they ARE deranged domestic terrorists.
Jesus is their vaccine? Just have faith? Where have I heard this stupidity? Oh, that's right. Jonestown. Where mothers poured poison down their little babies throats. How did that work out?
They are phonies. Hypocrites. If they truly believe Jesus died in their place, wouldn't they be more respectful of their life? Wouldn't they treasure their lives knowing Jesus sacrificed His life for their puney little lives?
They are the wolves in sheeps clothing. Their stupidity is a slap in the face to their Jesus. Their God gave them a brain and they are saying no thanks.
Idiots.

i'm surprised the governors who want to open up prematurely are not at least waiting until there are either more tests, or steady decline in new cases before making these decisions.
i hope enough people who don't want this to happen remember this next time they're up for re-election. save for cheating and gerrymandering and voter suppression, those people wouldn't stand a chance if everyone got out there to vote. and they know it.

Even if businesses open, it doesn't mean people have to go out and frequent them. If I don't feel like I can keep myself, and others safe, I won't be going there. I just hope it doesn't bite those small business owners in the butt by opening too early.

that's true and people shouldn't go just because they're open. but as we see, you will have enough careless and selfish people go out and about if not forced NOT to, that more people will get sick and die.

It totally amazes me that they can actually think that tattoo parlors and bowling alleys can “safely distance”. What do the owners of these business think? And who in their right mind would go there?
I read that these openings were really to lower unemployment rates and prohibit those employees from collecting. Risking lives and deaths does not seem to be considered.

There is also the thought going around that with the extra money in the Federal unemployment some workers won't want to go back to work because they make more money on unemployment. Granted that is a conservative talking post.

i saw a post going around on FB that was trying to shame people into what to do with their stimulus money and how to handle one's finances while on lockdown. it was one of those concepts of the welfare queen that drive me nuts. basically telling people they were lazy bums if they don't pay their rent, mortgage or utilities. i was thinking yeah that works if you actually have money. if you are out of a job and not getting your unemployment yet, you can't squeeze blood out of a turnip! and it's messed up to make people feel bad for not paying bills they can't afford. bezos and all the other billionaires have their money and chose not to part with it. the conservatives got the wrong welfare queen.
