CJ- we have also had very cold nights and I had to cover my vegetable garden last night and tonight also. I figure you will figure out a way to get through your fabric dilemma and make it work. Most times the ingenious ways we use fabric makes for a beautiful quilt. I am sure your quilt top will look great.
Ruth, I never got delivery, and am clueless on how much to tip. Don’t know if my mom tipped when she got her groceries delivered, which I would order for her. I hope that your order was perfect and even better yet, kept you and Dh home safe and away from the store.
Worked on the baby quilt a bit, got the singer running again and am using that to work on the free motion quilting. Ginny

Ruth - You might want to ask your tipping question on the General Discussion area of our board. I've seen several posters there saying they are getting the groceries delivered to their home.
I've never had any delivered to my house, but I hope that your delivery works out for you.
Ginny - I'm glad you were able to work on your baby quilt, hope you can finish it soon.

CJ, the delivery worked great. I think I posted earlier that it was free plus I got $20 off my order. Everything was there, it was delivered on time and he girl that delivered it was very careful sitting it down and she made sure nothing was "squished". I had eggs and bread in there and bananas and not damage at all. I'll probably never do it again because of the cost of delivery but it was great for this time when I still didn't want to go out even to pick it up at curbside.
Well it's 10 pm so I guess if I'm going to get any crafting in I'd better get to it. I think I'll cut out fabric for masks...won't need them for awhile since I had those things delivered but I can give some to neighbors. The HOA built a shed around the bank of mailboxes down at the highway so I might put some there for people to pick up if they need them.

CJ- that is a great idea to check with other posters regarding shop from home. Its also a good idea for me- perhaps- as my family has me under house arrest. But its a great idea, especially if you live alone and have no one to deliver groceries as in a family member or a good neighbor to help out. Wouldn’t it be nice if the local fabric store did home delivery of crafting supplies?? Guess that is called UPS. Did you make any progress on the black and white quilt top?
Ruth, that is one thin my mom noted about the delivery was the great care the delivery staff offerred her. I think they were supposed to deliver to her front stoop (outside) but the delivery man brought the groceries in the house and treated her delivery as though it was the most precious thing in the world. I think she ended up tipping him (but think he said it was not allowed by the company). I did note that on a quick internet check, that some grocery stores do not permit tipping. I am really glad that you were able to avail yourself of that service and am sure that you and Dh are enjoying the fresh fruits and potatoes that you were missing. Its nice to know that this service exists- and perhaps in the fall (when its flu season and we hope that Covid is gone) it might be a good thing to do again. For a once in a while use, its nice. Years ago, when my mom was still in her home in NJ- we would sit in our homes, her in NJ and me in NYS and go through the store sales flyer. I would enter her order on the IPad- which would be delivered by her store- about 7 miles from her home. I do remember stopping in that store once to thank them for the excellent service they provided my mom and the peace of mind that I had knowing that she did not have to drive for her groceries. What a great idea to make masks for others!! I have heard about someone who actually made masks - packaged each in a plastic bag (like a sandwich bag) and left them in their town in strategic places for anyone to take. What a nice idea. I hope your neighbors appreciate your efforts. How is your wrist doing??
Got a week of on and off rain coming, so I have to eat my walk in this morning. Then back this afternoon to some quilting and making a few more masks.
ginny.

My store's online site has a place where they say something like "tipping is not required but" and have options to choose how much you want to give to be included in your payment and they state that the full amount you indicate as a tip will be given to the delivery person. So they do not only allow tipping but suggest it right there in case you don't think about doing it.I wonder about the person in the store that picks out your choices. They probably do more work than the delivery person(if it's a different person) and they did a good job picking out my items. The bad thing about this store is that it used to have two locations here and the prices were great. Now they are only in one location on the other side of town and the prices seem higher now and the online prices are much higher than the instore prices were when I was last there.
I got a late start today because of not being able to get to sleep. The side effect of my medication is supposed to be drowsiness but it still is not making me drowsy.I'm going to go work on masks. I don't have any 1/4 inch elastic but I have 3/8 which I know will work fine and I also have 1/2 inch which I can cut in half long ways. I've done that in the past for things and it worked fine as long as you stay in the "groove" in the middle

Well fabric cutting got put on hold because I decided to bite the bullet and do my phone business. I had tried a home delivery pharmacy and thought it was a great idea but they keep messing up so I'm back to my local pharmacy who also delivers. So I had to call the online company and the local pharmacy and then got mine and dh's meds all ordered. Then I put in a call to an insurance co in Indiana and am waiting for a call back on that. I want to get ins for my property.. hopefully liablity and damage to structures. The ins I have for this home won't cover property that doesn't have a house on it even if there is an alternate structure....seems ludicrous to me but what do I know. The company I called insured this property in In for the previous owners so it must not be an issue for them. Sometimes though they will only ins land if you have other ins with them such as your car insurance. So we'll see what happens. Had to do phone work yesterday too and you all know how much I just love being on the phone.... . I hate phones.

ok gotta keep a running commentary going on my activities . Obviously my sewing skills leave a lot to be desired!! I did get one mask made but if they keep turning out like this one I'd be embarrased to give to anyone besides my dh. I either need more sewing practice or just go back to crocheting (don't mean for the masks...found that the crochet masks are just too heavy. I just don't like all that weight on my face. I'm going to go back and watch the video again and try another..this time with ties. Oh and I also need to watch a video on how to use the cutting mat and ruler. I know I'm missing something there because my fabric covers up the numbers and I don't think it's supposed to do that.

Ruth, hope you can get your insurance woes straightened out- sometimes they seem to speak in a different language that makes no sense to the normal person. (Oddly enough I have an 2 insurance issues that I have to straighten out tomorrow.). there are many decent videos of using a rotary cutter- or you can just use scissors to cut the 6x9 inch rectangle - its all sewn together anyway so if the seams are not perfect its ok. At least at my store, the person who shops the order is not the delivery person. My store has tons of shoppers now.....and only a few who do deliveries as many folks pick up their groceries from the store.
Got some free motion work done and my new foot is in for the new machine, so I will work on that tomorrow.
Ds had an awful day at work....good thing he is off tomorrow.
A woman from my church (I did not know her well) succumbed to Covid. She was in the hospital for other issues- she has been weak for many months.

CJ, yes that is a great idea to ask on that oth4er thread. Sorry I forgot to thank you for the suggestion.Next time I think of a delivery, or if I ever do, I'll use your suggestion
Well my second mask turned out way better than the first. I definitley need more practice.THis one I wouldn't be embarrassed to give away.Oh I just remembered I forgot to put in the pipe cleaner. I'll do that in a minute. It's easy to do. Both of these have a pocket in case you want to put another layer of protection and that's how you put in the nose piece is putting it into the pocket...hold it to the edge and sew close to it so that it can't move.
It's been raining here most of the day and will make the grass grow and need to be mowed.
Ginny, I could definitely cut with the scissors and will do that if I make more masks. My blade is dull too so I need a replacement blade.
I'm sorry to hear that your ds had a hard time at work. I'm glad he has tomorrow off too.Definitely keeping him in prayer

Good morning all-
Ruth, so keep on making those masks. I do know that you can make no sew masks, there are instructions for no sew masks on CDC’s web site also.. Think my SIL in Florida will be making no sews- she has some surgical masks ( I ordered them for her) already. But to make for others, it could be better to sew some. Yes, its important to have a nice sharp rotary blade, think I heard from the quilting class I took that they suggest changing a rotary with each major project. Ever wonder why those silly little blades are so expensive? I have also seen that someone sells a blade sharpener- but I don’t know if its effective or worth paying for. Anyway, its a great idea that you are going to make more masks for others in your development.
So last night I was working on the baby quilt and my singer started to act up again ( I am now 1/2 way done with the free motion work). I changed the needle, what did not help. About 10 minutes later I got a text from the LQS owner, that my Husqvarna spring load open toe foot was in. The shop owner is going to drop it off in my mail box today when she is out today. I am having a hard time being patient! Ha ha ha. Think I might make some masks today. I have only two- gave the rest to my kids. I will make a few more for myself and then several for a neighbor. guess that will keep me busy and out of trouble today.
I do appreciate the prayers for Ds. Corrections is a complicated place to work at, virtually impossible to maintain social distancing and the inmate population does not seem to understand that some of these new ideas on distancing or self protection are not meant to punish but to keep them safe.
Got a rainy day here on tap. Also cold. Guess I will end up spending some time with Leslie Sansone, who I have neglected a lot recently by walking outside. Ginny

Today is a good day here too for walking with Leslie. It's also a good day for making masks and/or crocheting. It rained much of the day yesterday and it looks like today will be a repeat although we've at least had a few sunny minutes now and then so far today.
I'd better get busy. See you all later

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get your grocery delivery. I hope you can work out the insurance issues too. Sounds like you are getting the hang of making masks Ginny - I'm glad you're getting your machine foot today, hope the quilting works well with it. I'm sorry to hear about your DS's issue at work, that is difficult when there just isn't a way to social distance. I'm also sorry to hear about the passing of your church member. Your state has such high numbers of the virus, I sure hope that the decline in cases starts soon. Phyl, Sue and Meg - Hope you are doing well and crafting. I went to the grocery store yesterday, it was kind of a spur of the moment decision the night before. I had about another week before I would run out of yogurt and milk and some meat, so I thought I'd try to go during the senior hours and hoped that the store would be better stocked than it was when I went 3 weeks ago (the last time I shopped). Well it sure was a stressful experience. There weren't too many people in the store and I didn't have to wait in line outside, but the store was still very low on stock. Most of the frozen foods were wiped out, low on meats and other dry foods too. No paper products at all. I was really sad to see that the stock is still so low. I was fortunate to get some yogurt and milk and a few meats (not what I would have normally bought, but I bought what they had). Now I should be fine for several more weeks again, but I might try another store next week when I have to go out to the bank. And wearing the mask was a pain. I touched and pulled on that mask more than I ever would have touched my face without it I think if I make another one I'll make it longer so I don't have to keep pulling on it to stay over my nose and over my chin. I guess I have a big face I sure hope that all the grocery stores in our country will be able to get stocked up again by summertime. Maybe then things can get a bit back to (somewhat) normal. Today I had my furnace serviced and they looked at my water heater because I've been having problems with it - but they couldn't fix that, said I needed an electrician for those issues. I haven't gotten back to working on my quilt, maybe this weekend. The last 2 days have stressed me out Take care everyone and stay safe and well.

Today I've been watching the rapidly moving clouds as they head east. After sweeping and mopping the floor yesterday, I'm not very motivated to move around a lot!
The woofers and I have been to the gate. I think I saw a baby rabbit on the other side of the chain link fence. Some northern flickers were visiting around seven, and I could hear a pair of Sandhills cranes over by the creek. My Medicare advantage program called to make sure we had food and emotional support. She thought she wanted to talk to hb! He can no longer follow a phone conversTion. She wasn't a scammer, but I don't know how most older people would know the difference!
A lot of people are having trouble with elastic for masks causing irritation. There's now a pattern on Ravelry that is a crocheted tab with a button on either end to hook the elastic over and relieve the irritation. Very clever!

CJ, I'm sorry the store visit was so stressful then the added stress of having to now get an electrician to fix the water heater.Yes the mask patterns make a pretty small mask so I made dh's larger and he wanted one that was larger still so I made him another this morning and I'll make him a couple spares because I need the practice with sewing.
Sue, we had rain all yesterday and also this morning but it's now cleared up and sunny. As for those strap things for the mask elastics, they have a ton of patterns for them noiw and really no pattern is needed. You just do a chain with #4 weight yarn...cotton is best...use and H hook and hdc around the chain putting 3 hdc's in the last chain in the row before continuing to hdc on the opposite side of the chain. If you want it wider just go around the whole thing again with a sc' Make the chain about an inch shorter than you want the finished "mask Mate" to be to allow for the row of hdc's, I made one of those for dh this morning too. People in the crochet groups are making them by the hundres to donate. They take about 3 minutes to make. I'm sure that because so many are going crazy making so many that a great number of them will never be used. They're making way too many.
The good side of makig these masks is that I now know exactly how to thread my machine. My thread ran out so good thing I ordered that spool awhile back. Now the bobbin will run out soon I'm sure so I'll get practice on doing that
