CJ- well you survived the store- even if it was not the most pleasant trip. Sorry they were out of so much also. I went to the largest chain store here, figuring that they would be reasonably well stocked, Perhaps that is a strategy to try. In my case, they seemed to have most items I was looking for . Its so stressful doing these routine things with the added concern if you had a mask on or touched something you should not have. You will figure out how to enlarge the pattern you are using, so that the masks fit you better. Glad you got the furnace serviced....hope that it was not expensive. Also hope that the water heater problem is not too pricey to adjust.
Sue. Good thing that caller got you and not Dh. It would not have gone well for sure if he answered the phone- but the caller would have figured it out anyway. Nice that they did call to see that you are ok. Don’t think any of us are all that motivated to do much these days. Pretty neat that someone has figured out a way to eliminate elastic irritation- think I would just make ties and eliminate elastic entirely.
Ruth- see, good has come out of all this if you are now competent in threading your machine and rewinding a bobbin! DId you finish many masks?
I cut out 11 masks after finding more elastic. I have a minor thread jam and will resume finishing them tomorrow. Got some paperwork done today too. Still trying to get things tidied up so that keeping things properly filed is easier. Ginny

Good morning all.
Wish I slept better last night, not a horrible nights sleep but could have been better for sure.
Looks like I will have to go online to see where my stimulus payment is. I keep checking my bank account and am unable to see either the stimulus check or my 2019 tax refund. Gonna get the thread jam out of my machine ( a first to open it and see how this is done for the Huskie)....Dd is coming here to go for a walk and spend the day. Its supposed to be warm (almost 60) so it will be a nice change.
Hope I can get back here later. ginny

good morning or afternoon depending where you are, been awake since 2 am. can't seem to get a nap in. all I want to do is nibble, nibble, nibble, not good for a diabetic.
was hopping to be in my playpen sewing away this am.maybe later.
Friday we went to WM. had to get a card for my phone. went to the fabric department and the shelves were empty of bolts.except for about 4 bolts of pastels.not even fat quarter bundles.
the kid said customers bought it out to make masks.
I wanted some packer fabric and badger fabric. I can find it online.will not pay $12.00 yard to make masks. was going to get 1/2 yard of each.
on another thread a poster thinks WM is frazing out the fabrics and fabric will be 1 yard in bags. I have noticed here some of their fabrics are in plastic bags hanging up.made in China.
remember years ago when WM tried to get rid off fabric.they had to bring it back. this is a busy department at times.
they get rid of the fabric department will the rest of the craft departments go????customers won 't like it. not everybody has a Micheals or H.L to go to.
our hobby lobby is closed. Joann's opend yestrday forcurbside service. the packer fabric they have is big prints or flannel or fleece.
from what I get online they will open the April 30th. cusomers will come in with gloves and masks.only few at a time and limited customes.r
our govenor has issued a stay home till May 30th. we shall see.
have a good saturday. phyl

Ginny, I had a couple thread jams yesterday too but luckily I was able to get them unjammed without taking things apart. Seems to happen a lot when I backstitch. One of them I did think I'd have to do some investigating on what the best way to unjam was but it finally did come out with just manuvering the wheel. I think today I'm going to take apart two of the masks that didn't turn out real great and do them over. This morning I made a crochet towel holder. My wrist is ok now. It just needed a short break but I'll keep the wrist brace handy just in case....if I ever get it. Onlines are making decisions on what is essential to prioritize shipping.
I always have bought my airtime online but now I've signed up for auto refill so don't have to even think about is it time to get more.
I haven't bought fabric in a very long time. I had a huge stash of that too, gave some away, donated some to the rescue mission store, and still have a lot left. They did recently open a Michael's here and we have Hobby Lobby. I haven't been to Michaels since it's way over on the expanded part of town. I heard that most Michaels don't have a large selection of fabric by having never been in one I couldn't say.

NO Michael's does not have fabric like we know it. think they never had don't remember.what they have now is a little bit of fat quarters or fat eights. nothing to write home about.
when Marilee and I use to do counted cross stitch we got upset they got rid of their ccs. brung in more beading stuff.they had a good supply.hobby lobby has down size their department also
when I first started quilting I loved Ben Franklin stores.now most of them are gone or went into framing stuff.

Phyl is right, (good to see her here!) Michaels does not sell fabric- unless you count precut - pre packaged felt. Gee, I had no idea that Ben Franklin used to carry quilting supplies. The only BF store I know of has almost no crafting supplies, and its in North Carolina. And Walmart phased out fabric, brought it back...and no I will not buy fabric like that from Walmart.
Ruth- glad that your wrist seems better. Yes online shopping is a challenge these days and you do not know what kind of shipping dates they will give you. I have ordered stuff that it seemed I would get quickly and the actual shipment took much longer. Its just the way things are while many are trying to stay out of stores and buy online instead.
Nice to see Dd today. But a busy day. Ds got stuck and is working a double. Ginny

I think I remember some of those 5 and dime stores selling fabric. We had a grocery store here that sold yarn. I still have some of theirs that I got when they were either selling it our or closing so they had to sell everything
Pretty much everything in walmart is from China. For fabric I'll stick to Hobby Lobby. Their prices are not bad and they have specials and last time I looked at fabric there...which I have to say was about 10 years ago, they had some nice fabric too. In fact I wish I could find the piece I bought back then.I was going to use it for a baby quilt...a very simple one.
I made dh another of those ear savers to go with his mask. I have the other with red, white and blue variegated Sugar n'cream or whatever the brand walmart sells., and I guess he wasn't feeling patriotic so asked me to make him one in the green cotton I had.He tried the mask on with the ear saver and I found that his mask gaps at the sides too which I didn't notice before so I'll have to fix his now too.I did fix the second mask I made for myself, crocheted a towel holder and started a c2c dishcloth. Both of those last items will be little gifts.Dh didn't think I should make masks to put at the mailboxes so I'll just make some and see if dd and her family need some and are willing to drive over here and pick them up.
Ginny sorry to hear that your ds has to work a double He has a stressful job and and shouldn't have to work extra.

hi, OUR guild president called and email me. she had 60 masks leftover. so I went and picked them up.
she was looking for home for them.
Carrie will be surprised. not home yet . hoping I can walk over tonight and give them to her.
i think Walmart fabric would be ok for masks, table runners etc. . would not use it for a quilt. I have heard it is not as good as it use to be.
when I first started quilting I used their fabric for baby quilts. now if the bq was going to some one who I did not think or know well enough I used walmart. someone who I knew would take care the bq then I better fabric.
MARY jO'S nephew is a manger walmart in the Oskgosh area. he says all the walmarts in the state are out of fabric. hard to believe isn't it. phyl

Hello Crafters Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. We had some rain here last night and it's been a cloudy and cool day. Looks like temps in the 60s and maybe a 70 day in the coming week. I finished the quilt top in the black and white fabrics - I threw a gray fabric in there too. It finishes at 46x60 - so a nice size lap quilt. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I didn't do a full checkerboard like in that pattern I had shown you before. Instead I just did a row of black and white blocks to go between a large piece of the toile fabric. Then I did a small 2 inch gray inner boarder and a 3 inch outer border in black with white polka dot fabric. I had to piece the long border strips and did pretty well with doing them on the diagonal. I did mess one up a bit but I don't think it's too noticeable because it was the polka dot fabric. Now I need to work on something with lots of pretty colors I read that there is a shortage of sewing machines for sale. I'm guessing it's more of the lower price ones since people are making masks and staying home and sewing more. Take care everyone!

Wow that is strange that all the Walmart’s are out of fabric...but it does not surprise me. I have heard that hot sale items in walmart and other major sellers is hair dye and sewing machines. I wonder how many are taking a sewing machine out of the box for the first time and are clueless how to use one. Thankfully there are many good tutorials out there. Phyl who will you give all those masks to? Is Carrie a nurse or first responder? How sweet to donate all those masks, I am sure they will be put to great use. My friend went to Walmart in Pennsylvania 2 weeks ago- she had fabric but needed more 1/4 inch elastic. THey had none.....but I found some more here and gave that to her. I have never bought walmart fabric for anything- no skip that I did buy fabric for a vest about `15 years ago. Still have the vest- its one of those panel vests and I loved the pretty fall colors. Will have to go check out the party thread if I can find it.
So yesterday my machine jammed, yup the new one. And in trying to unjam the machine a tiny piece fell under the bobbin case. Of course that is virtually unreachable. I tried yesterday and got nowhere getting that tiny part out. Texted the shop owner, she was able to figure out which part it was and actually said I could sew without it. I resumed looking to get it out this am and managed to do so, The piece is part of the thread cutter. I put it back in and its still a bit of a problem, so I was able to get the machine to the shop owner and her husband will take a look at it. Honestly I doubt its a big issue and she figures I will be able to get the machine in a day or so. Of course its under warrantee. Got a nice walk in - even though it was raining a bit.
Ds came home- but figures he will get stuck with another double tomorrow. OK gonna to see if I can locate this party thread.
Is it really Sunday and we start a new week tomorrow? Ginny

CJ- we were posting at the same time! That quilt top sounds pretty- and I think it must be very dramatic especially with the gray fabric. The joy of working with patterns is that they tend to hide imperfections. Do you plan on putting a backing on it and quilting this?
So you heard the same thing as I did about sewing machines being in short supply! I think its a good thing that folks are trying their hand at sewing. Perhaps it will help those stores like Hobby Lobby had Joanns stay afloat. Hope you can find something pretty to work on - nice bright and cheery! Ginny

Ginny, the thread is : party spring at last.still going on.
I am not sure what Carrie's title is.. it is a mental health palace. she got premoated to something.she use to take patients shopping. more like a counselor type thing.
these patients have their own apartments. yet they have rooms if they need to be separated .set up like a mental place. only alot nicer the hallways and rooms type building, took a tour when they opened. sure bets the old mental hospital building they had. boy do they have a nice deep tub I would love to soak in.
I guess we could call this building more like a home setting.phyl
