i've been doing my own roots with box dye for nearly 20 years now (i started going gray when i was 19 so i have had gray hair issues forever!!). my hair stylist knows i can't afford to come to her every two weeks for a root touch up during non-stay at home times (and mine looks just the same when i'm done as hers did). so she actually never does my roots, only the highlights. she gives me tips on what shade to buy, and that's it. i used to use the l'oreal permanent colors for the roots but then started buying ion brand at sally beauty supply and it's a game changer. smells nice, doesn't sting, and the color doesn't fade over time. the l'oreal ones always started appearing lighter but in a way that made the blonde parts blend in too much and then it just looked like one solid block of light brown hair. which is not what i'm going for. i like the shaded roots.

You cannot establish the same relationship with kids over zoom. Two of adult children are teachers and both have had students who have signed up for office hours not for extra help but because they miss their teachers! I am a school bus driver, and I know for fact that I made a difference in my kids lives as perhaps the only non judgmental part of a students day... Many parents are doing a wonderful job with their kids- but what about those individuals who need โthe systemโ to socialize them due to inadequate home lives? K-12 kids need the school experience...just my opinion though.
Rene, I already have some of that powder stuff for roots...thanks for the tip however.

King Andrew only wants to redo education because he has ruined the state budget with nonsense (he had to rename a bridge for his father....wonder how much it cost the taxpayer to change all those signs- twice!). Heโs great at blowing his own horn, travelling overseas for photo ops. Now he has his sights set on education. Perhaps he ought to look at unfunded mandates and the big raises the legislature gets each year.

Jennifer, I liked Chris but he threw a temper tantrum and then there was publicity about his wife's wacka-doodle ideas on health care so I'm not so fond of him anymore. I do like Andrew's press conference's he does every day but I don't live in New York and don't know the whole story about how he runs the state.

I am a New Yorker and quite pleased with how Cuomo is handling the pandemic, especially compared with King Donny the Prevaricator (since we're bestowing titles of royalty upon our leaders, lol) and the disgraceful performances of so many governors. I do agree that the education statement was a bit over the top. Not going to happen anyway so I'm not wasting any energy thinking about it.
I wish people would stop thinking that "screening" of employees and customers is an effective way of preventing infected people from sharing the virus. One word: ASYMPTOMATIC. People are starting to show evidence of previous infection with COVID-19 without any symptoms. They are testing positive for antibodies and say they never had symptoms. They were shedding the virus, going about their business because they felt just fine---no fever, no cough, nothing. Screening will weed out those who have obvious symptoms but will do absolutely nothing to prevent asymptomatic people from coming in contact with others.
The presence of asymptomatic people testing positive for antibodies is a strong argument for continuing to practice social distancing and the wearing of masks. My motto now is "SAVE YOURSELF." If others choose to pooh-pooh the precautions that I am taking, go right ahead. I'm not changing my approach until I PERSONALLY feel it is safe and not a moment sooner.

fullmahina, "Cuomosexual" haha I love Randy I have relatives in NY that are of the same mind as you -but I have a few friends that think it's time to "get back to normal", especially since Cuomo said people staying at home have gotten it and they don't know how. There have been a lot of the "I haven't left the house" people that have others IN the house test positive but be completely asymptomatic. So it's not so much "I don't know how", more "I don't know how long I've been exposed", know what I mean?

There have been a lot of the "I haven't left the house" people that have others IN the house test positive but be completely asymptomatic. So it's not so much "I don't know how", more "I don't know how long I've been exposed", know what I mean? Let's face it---very few of the people who "haven't left the house" have indeed "left the house" for essential shopping. If they haven't left the house the have let the outside in via delivered packages, mail, etc. I know many who are sheltering in place but ordering via Amazon, Walmart.com, and other online businesses. Amazon and Walmart are not winning prizes for infection control practices. And then there are Instacart shoppers and other grocery delivery services. Curbside pickup from restaurants and stores. Unless you disinfect packages you receive (both the outside of the package and the contents) you may very well be bringing the virus into your home even if, technically, you "haven't left the house." We can only do our very best but still, the virus might sneak in. Do your best, hope for the best, and if we become infected we can at least say we tried and it got us anyway.

I posted this is the daily thread but I am posting it here too. This is what we are up against. SAVE YOURSELF.
>>The guy who was in the hospital for six weeks with COVID came home from rehab the other day. The neighbors got together and made signs and banners and welcomed him home. Welcomed him home---wearing NO MASKS, practicing no social distancing whatsoever, kids all playing with each other (including the kids from the COVID home). This is a development with about 20 homes, set back from the main road with properties ranging from 1-12 acres. The COVID home is off a big circle and the circle was loaded with people, gathered together for about an hour, bringing their babies to "meet" each other, hanging out for about an hour before finally dispersing. DH and I watched from our window (our driveway is about 400 feet long and leads to the circle). I was so disgusted---furious, actually. My longshoreman vocabulary was in overdrive.
I give up. My motto at this point is "SAVE YOURSELF." If, after knowing what this young neighbor went through in his fight for life, you are still ignoring guidelines then I have no words. Unbelievable.
Rant over.<<

Cuomo is New York Italian. As one married to a four way New York Sicilian, there's gonna be some feistiness. (Four way: all four grandparents).

fullmahina , that's just too much ignorance in one place I was truly horrified. We do have a lot of husbands here who are into the macho facade---State Troopers and other law enforcement. A few wives were conspicuously absent and the wife of our next door neighbor went to the edge of the circle (and she looked really angry) and was gesturing for her husband to come back to the house but he ignored her; he was holding their 18-month-old son and walking around, talking to everyone. Just thinking about it now I am still angry, especially with the recent reports of children suffering horrible complications from COVID. WHAT were they thinking (if they were thinking at all) Yep...save yourself.

Wear. Your. MASK. We all saw the pictures of VP Mike Pence touring the Mayo Clinic without a mask. His explanation "I get tested on a regular basis." Brilliant. We all know now that one of POTUS's personal valets has tested positive for COVID. And now, two of Mike Pence's staffers have tested positive. Pence just got on a plane to Iowa where the plan is to visit faith, agricultural, and food supply leaders. It will be interesting to see who wears masks, and what kinds of masks because a simple mask will not protect them from any virus Pence might be spewing around if he doesn't wear one. Pence will have to wear a mask, as will all those around him, to even come close to any semblance of safety. thehill.com/homenews/administration/496810-second-pence-staffer-tests-positive-for-coronavirus?
