Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today We had some storms roll through here last night but today it's sunny and windy. I had the windows open for a bit, it was nice to let the air in. I worked on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks this morning and have them ready to start assembling into the final blocks, I'd like to get that done in the next day or so. Then I can get back to the quilt with the tough pattern I really like the method I'm using for the Hourglass quilt blocks, it's really easy and makes a nice finished block. You just make 2 four patch quilt blocks and then you place them right sides together and sew around the whole outer edge of the blocks. Then you cut the blocks on both diagonals and when you open it up you have 4 hourglass blocks. I tried to find the website where I saw this method but can't or else I'd share it with you. Hope everyone is getting some crafting in and that you and your families are staying well. Take care!

CJ- that sure sounds cool- your method for making an hourglass quilt block. Who thinks of these things? Each time I watch a new video from MSQ I am amazed at their ability to make a different looking block with basic cutting and reorientation of what has been cut. Good for you getting good progress on the rainbow scrap challenge quilt.. Care to share some inspiration with me? Gardened a little bit this am- got a short walk in and I just emailed hobby Lobby regarding the baby yarn. I am curious to see what they get back to me with- would love to have that yarn by late May so I can finish the afghan. I did load a bunch of recipes onto the Taste of Home web site- those that I had cut out to make another day. Now they are in my account online and I can get rid of a lot of magazines. I am so uninspired.....having a hard time motivating myself. Ginny

Well it's been an interesting day weatherwise. Started out overcast and rain mixed with a little snow. Then was 48 and went way down. Dh made me a fire then the sun came out and temp is now 68 acc to my thermometer.High was supposed to be 54. Rest of the week will be great weather...all sixties with one 70's day thrown in
CJ, I saw someone doing that on tv..it was amazing. I've seen so many tv shows where they did some great cutting that ended up in a great block.
Ginny, I hope you have good luck with finding the yarn at Hobby Lobby. I hope they get back to you soon.
Haven't done any crafting yet except for crafting a pineapple upside down cake and a list for curbside pickup groceries at Walmart

Good morning, Ruth, My sister is using curbside pickup for her inlaws (From walmart) and she is happy with the service. Its a great way to be able to get your groceries, and hopefully with the massive supply chain that Walmart has, you are able to get what you want. Your weather seems to be that way- able to make great swings in temperature and climate in a single day. It does sound like you are heading in for spring weather a welcome sign. Bet the fire Dh built for you felt nice and cozy...
They say my area is due for very cold weather this weekend. And it looks like I will have two nights that will go down to 33 degrees....and will have to cover the little plants in the garden. Dd did a shop from home for pickup order for us- herself, her sister and me. Of course Dd #1 has a growing family.....I only needed a few items. Ya wanna know the one thing I did not get??? Nail polish remover! (I only use clear and my nails are not long). I thought that was pretty funny.
Not sure what today will bring. Its starting to sound as though my state might enter phase 1 on May 15. Hope to hear from HL today regarding my yarn. The baby is not due for 2 months....but I would like to hear from them soon so I can evaluate my options.
See ya later. Ginny

Got my crafting in for the day. Saw the daily deal on MSQ.....and realized that it was REALLY nice and such a deal that I could get two of them for the sale price. Then I texted my church quilting buddy who very quickly informed me that the mini quilt kits she is working on are using the same fabric line. (She even sent me pictures to prove it......) so after a few minutes of silly texts in which we realized that for quilting our tastes do run awfully similar, I placed an order.

Another very short cold front is due later tomorrow. Today is a delightful sunny day, at least for now. There could be some rain later.
This morning I made some muffins. They were forgettable! Maybe waffles for tomorrow. They're easier for me to make. Definitely more consistent results.

Ginny, was it Esther's heirloom shirtings charm pack. I saw that and it really is an amazing price and the colors are wonderful. No wonder it's sold out. I hope you got your order in on time.
Last night my windows laptop went completely dead.Plugged it in and it turned on but the lighted keyboard kept flickering on and off then it went dead again. This morning I brought it upstairs and used the old charging cord and now it works fine. It's the one that I broke the glass on the screen so can't use the touchscreen anymore but otherwise it works for now.
I haven't done any crafting yet but am about to start.I tried to order yarn online from walmart but the yarn I want is available only in the store. I don't really need it so it's not a big deal.
Ginny, have you heard from HL yet?

Sue, guess that is one recipe that will be thrown out!! It stinks when all that work goes into a recipe and it just does not turn out well. Hope you enjoy the waffles... which I am sure will be awesome. Nice weather is good too- enjoy it for as long as you have it.
Ruth, yes, that is the fabric I ordered and its packed waiting to be shipped. Got my order in on time and now I will wait for CJ to find a good pattern for me to use it in. ( just kidding CJ- you do find some great quilt block videos from MSQ). That sure stinks that your laptop went dead. So what worked the new laptop with the old charger, or both the old charger and laptop? Glad you are able to post....and boy that stinks that the yarn you want is only available in the store from Walmart.
Dd and the grandkids came over. DSIL came over also to stain my deck, he is almost done and it looks great. So thankful for his help. Took the grandkids to the Pond to see the baby geese too. Think we are in for rain tomorrow, which in a way is good. THen I can stay inside and get some inside stuff done.
Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny, this was the old laptop with it's old charger. I had problems with the charger and got a new one and I think it's the new charger that was the problem because I'm using the old laptop now and it's fine. I also had manyh other issues with this one.. it's five years old..and that sent dh to finding a new one for me and that's how I ended up with the Chromebook.
I'm glad you had someoe to stain your deck for you. I know you could have done it yourself but it's nice to have someone else do what could be a messy job. I'm sure it was great also to see your dd and the children.I'm glad you got your order in in time to get some of that fabric. It looks wonderful and I know you'll find a nice pattern to use it with. I'd be sitting and staring at it for years before I could figure out what to use it for. Guess that's why I'm not a quilter. I even have problems putting colors together for my crocheting and that actually is not a hard task...for anyone else. I see color comboes in the fb groups that I never would have thought would go together and they worked great. I visited with my dh's cousin for a little. She's the only one in his family that keeps in touch. My dh does not like talking on the phone so I'm the one elected to keep that "in touchment" going. She is a "different" sort of woman but I like her.
After that I did a little crocheting and will go back to it now.
Sue, sorry about your muffin recipe not being a good one. I love waffles but rarely make them. I thought of you the other day when I was picking out things for Walmart pickup. I wondered why the prices were different than the ones dh found. I looked more closely and saw that they had my store as being one in Missoula, Mt. I know you don't live there but it being Montana made me think of you. Missoula was actually a place we were considering moving to when we ended up here in Wyoming.
Have a great night all

Yeah - as I sit here enjoying some fruit, I am thinking how wonderful Sue’s waffles must taste today. Sue do you make a special recipe, I know some add fruit to theirs (on top of the waffles) and there are some very involved recipes. Hope yours come out perfectly and are a great way to start your (and your husbands) day.
Ruth, I was wondering if the problem was the charger/power cord. Does Dh’s cousin live far from you? What stage of lockdown is this cousin in- I think one positive aspect of the pandemic is that many are reaching out to keep in touch with each other and family members that we do not or cannot always see. My sister and her family are also “different”- but well, I don’t have much family left and they are all I have. glad you are keeping that connection open for Dh. As far as fabric goes, that is why I buy these fabric collections- they are made to go together and it makes it pretty easy to coordinate what you want. I will still have to figure out a quilt pattern and find a fabric to use for the background....which should not be too tough.
Just got a special treat. The male rose breasted grosbeak is just outside my window. They are so pretty .....and now this all makes sense. the other day I saw a “large sparrow” and my silly head never put it together that it was the female rose breasted grosbeak- who looks like such a plain Jane as opposed to the very pretty male.
Gotta get my walk in before it rains. Think we have a day or so of winter coming, and snow on Friday. Guess I will have to cover the veggie garden to protect the little plants. Ginny

Good Morning girls,
yesterday I spent time working on a pleated mask. for some reason it does not fit right. measurements are right. how can I make masks for my Ky family if these do not fit me right.
yes I know it is hard to make masks for other people. I would have to do it in away that Nancy can fit he elastic to her dh and son. she will have to cut the elastic to fit,tie a knot and poke it down into the casing.
Monday we went to Menard's. everybody has to have a mask on to get into the store. they have security and you do not get in it you don't wear a masks. no masks you can buy one for a dollar. I can understand the logic. put the masks out and there are people who would grab them by the handful.
so I bought a six pack of pink ocean wave petunias and two summer Cana lillies . one is pink one is yellow.oh yeah now at night we will have to put the plants in the garage. we are going to have frosty nights till Tuesday.
seems like our spring is going backwards.enjoy your day today. phyl

I'm amazed that we haven't had snow again yet but for the next 5 days at least it's to be perfect Ginny weather...on 60's.
Ginny my dh's cousin lives in Buffalo, NY so a long way from us. Haven't seen her since 2006.
dh is up so see you later

Phyl, when I was sewing my masks I found that they have a gap in the sides. I don't know if that's the same problem you're having or not. I know that Marm had that problem so she just took a tuck in the sides. I made one over.
Ginny I know that you and CJ prefer cooler weather so that's why I said Ginny weather. And yes, I would guess that that is one of the benefits of buying those packs...all the colors are piced out for you.
Got my bills done and am just waiting to get two more and all will then be paid for the month.
I need to do a few chores around here then I can get back to crafting.
Still no word on my stimulus check. I may end up not getting one I guess.

good to see you Phyl, Glad that the store is mandating masks. And yes, most folks don’t know how to wear the mask properly or take it off properly. Putting masks out would absolutely cause tons of theft. I saw some nut who took a sharpie and drew a face on her N95 mask....wonder if that compromised its integrity at all. Good for you getting some cheery flowers....yup keep them warm until winter in May goes away. I have plants I will have to bring back inside when it gets cold. Look for other patterns....CDC even has instructions on how to make masks. There has to be something that will work for you. What is the issue with the masks you are making? Too big?? Too small??
Yes, Ruth Buffalo is a bit of a hike from you for sure.
Got to play with the machine a little bit- and had to walk away from it. I still have so much to learn. Oh, HL restocked on my yarn, so I ordered it. But they were out of stock on the other two items I wanted (really???). The other things I do not need, Like I need the yarn to complete the afghan.
Gotta go put dinner on. Ginny
