I am going in for a manicure/pedicure this afternoon. It's a one person shop so I'm not worried about being around others. All I really want her to do for my fingernails is to take care of the cuticles. I already trimmed and file them, and I don't have her put polish on. I know we will both be wearing masks and she said she cleans and disinfects between each client. I'll see how comfortable I feel. For some reason I've been okay in these one on one procedures, but still not willing to be in larger group situations.

My mani/pedi went well. My manicurist was telling me she got a call when salons were still closed here. She could tell it was someone from Texas by the area code. The man wanted to know if he could make an appointment for his wife to get her nails done. My manicurist explained that she was closed, as were all nail salons in the state. The guy then proceeded to go off on her saying things like "Oh yeah, your governor is one of those". She also overheard him say to his wife "She's shut down, just like everything else here. I don't know why we came!". My manicurist said she told him she was going to stay home until our governor gave the word she could open up. I told her she should have blocked his number. She said he was probably mad that he hadn't done his homework before they came to see what was open and closed. But to go off on our governor?

Well Fin, I've asked, and nicely too, and I've yet to receive a kind reply...

Well Fin, I've asked, and nicely too, and I've yet to receive a kind reply... I usually don't say anything, just give them a dirty look. Although since I'm wearing a mask I doubt they can tell.

I want to go where you go Fin! Today another A-Hole during my weekly shopping excursion. Older woman, looked at least 70+, with mask hanging down under her chin in WFs. I asked her to please pull up her mask and she gave me a drop dead look and went on her way. I asked an employee stocking shelves right there if he could do something and he looked at me blankly. Then I said, I mean could you do something like, now? And he got nasty and said all he could do was let his supervisor know. I then asked the checkout lady and she said they can't enforce anything. It's all corporate bullshit, really. If it's mandated from the state then ENFORCE it. It makes me so damn pissed off.

sounds like they are more scared to enforce it and get a screaming brat customer than that they "can't" enforce.
i've been shopping at vons, bristol farms and ralphs. oh and target. been very fortunate! not even one customer or employee without a mask!

Our governor announced on June 30 that wearing a mask is mandatory (which it already is) but now there will be fines imposed, both for those not wearing masks, and for businesses not enforcing it. Still not sure how this will be enforced.

My small city (12K pop.) is completely mask compliant. I have seen no one inside a business without one. I have seen one or two face shields as well. Since the lastest mask mandate folks have been wearing them in the parking lots too as soon as they exit their car. I'm in Northern Calif.

yeah a lot of us in los angeles have them on in parking lots too as soon as exiting the car. i put mine on in the car just before getting out. i had mentioned this here a few months ago (i forget which of the covid threads) but many people in los angeles that i have seen are also wearing them walking down the street, riding their bikes, etc. and you aren't allowed on our city buses or commuter trains/subways without one. the city buses all have signs on the LED screen above the windshield that say "face coverings required." they've said that for months now.

Sadly down here in SD County there are a LOT of folks walking around without masks all the time. I confess that when I go for my evening exercise walk I don't wear one, but I'm trying to carry one just in case. I live in an area with very wide streets and maybe I pass 5-8 people while walking and one of us always goes into the street or crosses the street to keep far away from one another.
However, yesterday in WF again, there was someone without a mask, refusing to wear one, and the staff cited 'we can't force people to wear one'. And yet, smaller businesses than WFs ARE forcing people to wear them or no service.

Hardly anyone masks up while walking/jogging around the neighborhood for exercise versus entering/exiting a business. People are good about staying away from one another in my neck of the woods.
The authorities gave up trying to limit beach goers; it was impossible to enforce. The locals were social distancing but people from out of county are hit or miss. Hence I stopped going. When I did go there was more chance to encounter people than around the neighborhood. I would have my mask down around my neck and when I spotted someone coming would pull it back up in place.

that said, if i go to the beach (we haven't since last summer) or if i end up going on a hike or walk in a more populated area like a hiking trail or out on the regular busy streets, i will bring it and put it on same as lani, if someone is passing by.
