Full day at the salon today.
I have absolutely got to get to some kind of comfort level here.
The first thing I'm doing is pulling back all of those shower curtains, I'll be alone, I don't need them.
It feels like a fun house where you're wading through all the stuff hanging from the ceiling.

Jae I hope things go well today on your first full day back. I’m sure you will get used to the different scenery and practices once you’re back in it regularly. Maybe even by end of this week it will start to feel a little less uncomfortable. But I do understand your concern and anxiety. I’d feel the same way too.

Thank you for the well wishes.
It was a good day.
I missed my people. They are more then clients, they are my friends.
I love being at the salon alone. Opened as many of the plastic dividers as I could.
They waited in their cars until I called them in. There are arrows in the lobby guiding them to the check in area. All documentation is on the wall. Station with disposable masks, thermometer, hand sanitizer.
Once cleared, we go in together.
I got into a groove with sanitizing. Shampoo bowl > styling area > reception desk top> door handles in and outside > look in the parking lot for my next apt.
There is nothing comfortable about wearing masks. I did joke with my peeps as they opened the door, I pulled it down and said, you get 1 smile from me today, here it is.. them pulled the mask back up.
My hands feel like the skin is going to peel off. All of our sanitation supplies are from our industry. There's an alcohol based spray for our scissors and clippers, it's got a weird perfumie/alcohol smell I think is going to be a triggering smell for me in the future...
Just like pizza delivered in a box does, it used to gag me when I was pregnant.

The triggering smells! I hate those! Mine is the perfume Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. I used to wear it around the time I first got pregnant and couldn’t for the life of me figure out why my own perfume was suddenly making me few nauseous.

Jennifer, I am getting my hair cut today. While I'm excited to go, I don't envy everything that Maria is doing to protect us. She's in her own shop so it will just be the 2 of us. She texted me the new things we will have to do: stay in my car until my appointment time, I can only bring in my phone and payment and I have to come in with a mask on. She did say she'll wash my hair so I don't have to do that at home. I'll let you know how it goes. It's been 10 weeks since my last appointment; I usually go every 5-6 weeks so I'm pretty shaggy today.

linda72 beware, the urge to hug her will be strong. OX Really, it felt a little bit better as I got going yesterday, sure not normal but doable. Can't wait to hear how it went.

Jennifer, My hair appointment went very well. The building was locked so I had to wait for Maria. She came to the door at my appointment time and let me in. We were both wearing masks as she walked me down the hall past 10-12 other stylists in their individual shops. After we got locked into her space, she told me I could take off my mask, if I wished. I told her the same and we both took them off. She washed my hair in her room and then she laughed at my hair. After 10 weeks, it was a mess! But, after she performed her magic, my old hair style came back. It looked so nice! One thing she mentioned is that a lot of her training at cosmetology school 35 years ago was about keeping things clean. She knew all about cleaning and sterilizing her work space and has always done it that way. I felt very comfortable with her. We set up more appointments over the summer. When I paid her, I tipped her big and she was very appreciative. One thing she said as we walked out is my hair felt dry and I should use some moisturizing shampoo. Do you have any recommendations? My hair is colored if that makes a difference. I wash it every 3 or 4 days. Should I use conditioner? Thanks!

linda72 sounds like you had a good appointment. Feels good to get your hair back in shape! My favorite conditioners are Keratherapy Moisture (blue) And Kenra remoist. Of course there are tons of great products out there but in general I like the products in these lines.

linda, my hair gets dry as a scarecrow's if i don't use the right products. and mine is color treated/bleached so that probably makes it all the more dry, but i love kerastase products the most. i also love oribe products but kerastase is my #1. the best places to buy them is from a salon or on their own website. they also have them on amazon, but i've bought several from amazon and they are all knockoffs. they do the job fine enough, but they charge so much that it seems a shame to spend so much on a fake product. some fakes are better than others, but the real brand product is worth every penny and then you also know that you're getting the real deal. www.kerastase-usa.com/conditioners/dry-hair-conditioners

Day 3 at the salon.
We have acquired 6 new girls from a salon in our city that has gone under.
We have been closed on Thursdays for several years which is why I chose it as one of my days to work as we return.
The new girls work on Thursdays so today there were 3 of them. *Irene* had an elderly lady come in, passed the check in and as she sat in the chair getting her hair cut she told Irene that her husband died of corona.
I felt like a lighten bolt hit me. OMG!! I stayed far away from her. Irene did find out he died a month ago and was in the hospital prior to passing so she had not been near him in about 6 weeks.
Holy hell NOT what I need to help me feel good about being back to work.
I'm not working anymore Thursdays, I'm moving to Friday night, I don't care if I have to be there until midnight. I'll find days and times to be alone. :-(

Jennifer, I am so sorry you were in the salon when you got the news about the client's husband dying of corona. I know you were terrified but, hopefully, the risk was low for you.

Jennifer, so sorry. It really sounds like the salon is taking good precautions and the fact that the client had not been in contact with her husband for six weeks should mean that the risk is very low for anyone coming in contact with her now. Did she mention whether or not she had been tested?
