I stayed far away from her so I did not hear any more of the conversation.

New Mexico most likely will be opening up on June 1 for eat in dining, gyms, and salons. I got a call from the place where I get facials and a text from my manicurist. I made an appointment for a facial as I feel very comfortable with their salon. It's very small, the treatment rooms are private, so it's just me and the gal doing the facial. I'm going to wait a bit for the nails. I'm not going to a dine in restaurant in the near future and not sure when, or if, I'll go back to the gym, even if they reopen.
I had a long discussion with my hairdresser. Their salon only has about 4 or 5 stylists, so even if all of them are working they are under the 10 person limit that I think they have. My stylist told me that even before they had to shut down they had been practicing a lot of the measure that will be put into place for re-opening. The chairs are already spaced well. I guess I'll find out all of the regulations once they open, but I know everyone will be masked.

Also, I asked my hairdresser about whether or not he could work from his home. He said in order to do so he would have to have it set up properly. It can't open onto a kitchen, must have an accessible bathroom. He said he could do it in his house, but he'd have to have clients come in through the garage. I don't think he's even thinking about doing this, he was just answering my question.
I think in New Mexico there are a lot of salons that are in people's homes. When we drive around every little town besides having a post office seems to have at least one hairdresser and most of them appear to be a home.

My hairdresser called me yesterday to say that I have an appointment on the books for June 4th and she thinks they'll be open that week so did I want to come in. The salon is a very small 3-chair salon, so I asked what the protocol was and she said only one stylist per day - so that day it's only her all day - and she has to wipe down and sanitize everything in between clients. Will wear a mask as well, and no blow drying. I asked if she could do my husband while my color was on so we can reduce the number of times we're both in there, but I'm still torn on whether I want to wait another month or not.
I should add that my husband has cardiac issues and is almost 66. I'm 59 so on the verge of the 'stay home because you're old' demographic!
Thoughts?

i'm inclined to think that with everyone wearing masks, disinfecting in between clients and only one stylist in the salon that day that you should be ok to go. i would probably go if i had a june 4 appointment. i don't know when i'll next be able to get in. i'm sure my stylists will be backed up for quite a bit for the time being.

www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/05/23/861325631/from-camping-to-dining-out-heres-how-experts-rate-the-risks-of-14-summer-activitI happened upon this article just now. It mentions risk levels of salons. If I was going I’d definitely make sure neither of you removes your masks during the appointment. The article specifically mentions people with more exposure to more people would logically make the visit more risky so if the stylist takes off his or her mask with one client where both are unmasked, chances are he or she is doing that with other clients and thereby now increasing the risk of spread. The best analogy in this article was to think of it as practicing safe sex. If he’s willing to forego the safety measure and you know he’s doing that with others, your risk level will be high compared to monogamy. With monogamy being the equivalent of not using mask protection around your family because you know they’re abiding by the guidelines and limiting their exposure.

I am loving Sundays at the salon, we have been having some great laughs over home haircuts, wayyyyy grown out color, long, long hair and the piles on the floor.
My clients are also very generous in tipping which I appreciate but do not expect at all.
It's so good to see them all, I'm starting to feel caught up. Several got the basics done and rescheduled for more detailed services because they know everyone is trying to get in and they don't want to take up too much time.

Thoughts? My hairdresser used to do "overlaps" where he'd cut someone while someone else is processing. He said there will be none of that now. They will only be able to have one client at a time. But he's in a salon with multiple stylists. Since it's you and your husband, and the stylist would be working by herself, it might be okay.

I had a family of 4 today, we have a nice bench seat outside of the salon by the front door. Even though it was just me working, they came in 1 at a time, I think just to be respectful.

Thanks for the feedback. I was more wondering about going at all, not the sharing appointment with hubby. I'm torn.

These days I make decisions on what I need and not what I want. Do you feel like you're at a point that you really need your hair done or is it more of a want?

Thanks for the feedback. I was more wondering about going at all, not the sharing appointment with hubby. I'm torn. I think it all depends on your comfort level as well.
I completely trust my hairdresser. Besides doing the hair of everyone in our family he has also become a close friend. If he tells me it's okay to go back to the salon where he's working, I'll go. I already have an appointment for mid-June.
For some reason nails I'm not so sure. It's a single person shop and I really like (and also trust) the gal, but I'm in no rush to go back.
I've also booked a facial for early June. Again, completely trust the shop.

Jennifer , luanne , thanks for the comments, you're right, it should be based on both need and comfort I think. I am fine with my roots the way they are. To be honest, I'm pleasantly surprised at the fact that my uncolored hair has way less white in it than I thought it would so YEAH me! I also thought about stopping coloring and letting it just go grey but I don't feel ready to do that just yet. I think I'll have to think about it and get back to her a few days before the appointment. I trust her, but as my husband said, you can't distance yourself from someone who's cutting your hair.

I just found out that hair salons will be opening in WNY next week. My DSIL has her appointment scheduled. I initially thought I’d wait, but I’ll probably call my stylist next week.
