Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read.Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. I refuse to give this weather any attention.
Robin, oh how fun!!! I bet you can not wait till tomorrow!! I hope you can spend all day there, lol. I sure hope Anngie does not get snow, that is too depressing, as we could have some too tomorrow. About cooking on Mother's day, I never mind cooking, as my parents raised us, once we were adults, that us kids took care of our Mother, as in taking her out for dinner, or having her at our home for dinner, so that is why I do not mind cooking on that day. It has gotten tho, to go out for dinner on Mother's day, (pre pandemic) was something we got away from, as it is so busy at the eateries that day.
Pinky, with bringing in the plants every late day because of the cold nights, when I come out into the living room the next morning, it smells so good!! I have towels laid out close to the patio door, so all the plants are parked right there, ready to go out in the morning. I would love to get a hibiscus tree, but DH put a stop to my buying things for the balcony, lol. When I ran to the gas station yesterday morning, I saw in one of the fields out here, a tractor working the dirt (there was a dust storm following him), and started wondering why the field next to our apartment complex is still sitting, not even ready for planting!
Marsha, so your employer paid for the masks? That is great of him! Especially if they are not needed at work. We were at Fleet Farm, (west of course) and I normally like walking thru their garden center, to see if there is anything I want or could use, and sure enough I found more than enough. Things were really fresh, as there was a semi parked right there, unloading. How do you think your DD did with her finals? I bet she did good. Sorry on the chocolate pie, I do not have a recipe.
Gareth, congratulations on your anniversary with WW. As I said on FB, you should be the poster child of WW, such as some kind of promo with your pictures, before and after, with the after being all these years later. What you said about WW being a lifestyle, I believe that also, I just wish I could live it, like you do. DD is getting much better, thanks for asking. She is just so relieved that it wasn't the virus.
Carol, yikes on your land line going off about the weather! We had that, when we lived in the house, plus our cells were set up for the notifications, so it got ridiculous for awhile. Now that we do not have the land line, that helped a bit. How is your weather now, for the weekend?
Anngie, thank you, about the weight loss. This past week I finally got my head into the plan, so was tracking and planning right down to the last point (16). Thank goodness for all the 0 point foods! And of course I walked like crazy, pushing for 60 minutes each day, but if I could not do the 60 (because of my backache) I made sure to do a bit over 30. Non fat plain greek yogurt is my new best friend. The things you can do with it! Mother's day....I have not heard anything from my 2 DD's, so no clue as to anything going on, but I can't imagine what they could possibly be planning, as we still can not be together. So if it is just a phone call, I am fine with that. DD2 tried to do a zoom call with us last night, while we were eating dinner, but I had such a bad headache, that I ignored the call, as there was no way I was going to try and figure out how to zoom, with my headache. LOL!!!! I truly love your new attitude!!!! The color of the sand might hide my grey hair!!!!
We did take out fish last night, and I was a little tired of the steamed cod, so I ordered the fried cod, and it was so great! I can not wait till this way of life it over, as we want to be able to go sit in this supper club, which is so old, and enjoy ourselves there.
DH has an apt to see his family doctor, Monday. They could have fit him in yesterday, but he did not feel like going then. His body was quiet yesterday, probably all wore out from the night before!
Waiting for the temp to get a bit higher, to put all the plants back out, then I guess I have a load of laundry to get going. Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, I hope you work something out for tomorrow. Maybe they are waiting to see how the weather will be. Good for you having the fried cod for once! If you are doing well, you can use your weeklies for that. I would love to smell lavender in my house. I actually would love more for my house to smell like a spa, but I don't think that DH would like it. I sometimes light candles, but have to find a good one that I really like.
Gareth, I think the statistics show that most people do find it hard to maintain. Some can get their head wrapped around the fact that they have to limit their eating all the time, which I know I have to do. I know how little I have to eat to maintain a low weight, and not have it creep up on me.
It is sunny here this morning, but windy and cold for a May morning. We are not getting snow, but now they are saying possibly rain at some point. Hopefully it will get into the 60's tomorrow, but now they are saying windy tomorrow too. I am waiting to hear from my younger DS. A little annoyed at him now because I know they went to New Jersey last weekend, and I will bet they are going this weekend too. He has yet to ask me what we are doing. Or ask my older DS.

We set a record low this morning of 25Âş It's in the 50's now but warming into the 60's this afternoon so we'll walk then. Got a text from DS this morning that he's dropping off dinner for us tomorrow for Mother's Day. He's smoking ribs. He knows how I love ribs. DH not so much but then it's not his day!
Karen, congrats on your weight loss! Congrats too on your indoor walking!

It wasn't my landline that was ringing. It was my cell, but my sleep addled brain thought it was the landline and I was trying to get to it. I don't get notifications on Amber Alerts anymore, just weather.
I think WW is a lifestyle change. I have gained some weight back purposely, but I am aware of serving sizes and things like that. The people who lose weight on diets which cut out a whole food group like Atkins seem to be the one who gain back most of their lost weight. One reason I decided on WW was that nothing was off limits.
It is a very beautiful day. It is a little cooler, but thats okay.
We usually go out to lunch after church on Sundays so I haven't cooked on Mother's Day in years. Both kids are supposed to call. We have been going out for sundaes. I'm thinking maybe going to Dairy Queen and getting a blizzard.

I didn't look back, but I think Anngie said something yesterday about getting an alert. I read an article about it. It seems that it is a parental abduction, which is what most child kidnappings actually are. The father took the child.
I was just outside, it looks beautiful, but very windy and chilly for this time of year. Feels more like March or November. Everyone's lawn certainly looks beautiful though. We have had rain every few days, not a lot of rain, but enough to get the lawns all nice an green, and with the flowers and leaves growing in, and the gardeners around mowing, it's really nice.

Good evening from cold, rainy and windy SD. Not nice here tonight at all and worred if it gets much colder if it will turn to snowflakes. The big worry here is if we may have freezing temps for the next 2 mornings----very scary with the crops starting to sprout and such. Most are still underground but the forecast is for 26-28 degrees which will go into the ground a bit. Now all the farmers have that too worry about----UUUGGGHHHH!!!!
Karen--glad your DH was able to get in so soon. Sending all good thoughts.
Gareth--what an awesome success story you have to tell. That is impressive and you should be very proud of that.
Robin---Yes our grass is very green as well. I should have mowed this past week but just not enough time and I was waiting for new blades to be put on it. DS#2 did so yesterday but then I haven't had a chance to use it. Busy with seed that is usual for this time of year.
Carol---Love DQ----and sundaes. My favorite is hot fudge.
Hi Anngie!!!
One of you asked about our old house and yes it is still standing---can't wait for it to go. It was too wet all of last summer with our rains and then into fall as well. Of course then harvest began and here it is a year later.

Happy Mother's Day! It's a cold, windy one here. Only 52Âş predicted for the day along with chances of rain. Needless to say it'll be an indoor walk for me.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!! Good morning. Cold and rainy. Thank you MOTHER NATURE!
Robin, we did see DD1 and her family yesterday. They stopped over with some cute gitfs for me, and we went out on a limb and had them all come up to the apartment. I hope I am not going to regret that, but it was so nice to have them in. DD2 is stopping over later this morning. I had heard the East coast was to get a "bomb cyclone" over the weekend, sorry about that, being on Mother's day, how miserable. This is the year we will want to forget. You said what we are saying, that it seems more like March weather. I do see a warm up coming by the end of this coming week.
Gareth, we are predicted to set a low record tonight, which is 30. You are so much more luckier than us, with your 60 yesterday. I guess I shouldn't complain, as it did get to 51, lol!! Ribs sound very, very good today!! You lucky girl!!!! I had not planned anything for dinner today, as I had not heard from the DD's, so I didn't know what they had planned. Now I see I need to think about it, lol. Maybe we will do take out, but I hate to do that, since we did it Friday. Thank you, about my weight.
Carol, yes, WW is a lifestyle change, but as you said, it is a very good way to live, but that is something I always have to drill into my head, as it is so easy to revert back to my old, bad ways. That ice cream sounds so good! Enjoy it!
Pinky, we are having your weather, but don't send the snow!! There is a chance we could get some, tho, during the day today, which just stinks. But I guess it could be worse, so I should shut my trap. Hope you all don't get that freezing weather, with your plants in. I will send you warm thoughts. Are you planning on taking care of the old house this summer?
I had a 0 point day yesterday, as I knew DH was, after his trip to Fleet Farm (again!), going to stop at my most favorite bakery, as they were advertising on FB mini strawberry cheesecakes, so I had to eat light. Of course they we out of them by the time he got there, and as they were mostly sold out of everything, he brought home a frozen chocolate, rasberry, whipped cream torte!!! After we had dinner, I had a piece, and it was heavenly!!! Then we packed it up and DH ran it down to the freezer. Out of sight... Of course then, I was so worried I ruined my loss from Friday so this morning I weighed myself when I got up, and I was a pound lower. I will take that with a grain of salt, but I was expecting a pound gained.
DH did it again. Ripped his fitted sheet. I guess I should have bought stock in a sheet manufacturing plant! Grrr. He has 1 left, so I better get some ordered online.
Time for more coffee, have a dry, nice Mother's day!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY EVERYONE!
Yesterday we woke up to an inch of snow on the lawn! It didn’t stick to the driveway and street and was gone by noon. But still.......
As a result of the missing child alert (Amber Alert) the little boy, abducted by his father, was found safe. Thank goodness.
Remember I mentioned DS’s girlfriend’s father being tested and found to be Covid-19 positive? Here’s a bit more to the story. Because he’s positive, the sheriff went to the house to tell the wife (her mother) she must quarantine. They asked who was at the house and she mentioned a daughter so the sheriff went to her house and told her she must quarantine. The mom forgot to mention DS’s girlfriend so therefore she wasn’t visited.
We’ll be going on another “Sunday ride” in a few minutes. I don’t know what DH has in mind but I plan on getting ice cream! At least it’s something to do.
Have a great day everyone!

Is your DS's girlfriend going to quarantine even though the sheriff didn't visit her?
DH is out picking up lunch. I picked Mexican food. DD won't call until later in the afternoon after DGS has his nap. DS will call earlier than that.
The weather app says it is 70. It doesn't feel that warm to me. DH has on a short sleeve shirt and I have on a sweat shirt.
Karen, I forget which DD was so sick. Is she better?
Everyone have a good mother's day!

Gareth, you beat me to posting today. Hope you enjoy those ribs, gosh that sounds good. We have a dreary day going here, I think the high temp might be the 41 degrees my weather bug shows right now. I did see the very light rain earlier this afternoon try to change to snow, but it just went away.
Anngie, yeck, on the snow. No matter if it melts, you just do not want to see it at all, by now. Seems like we might end up with just a few months of summer this awful year. Very interesting about how they track the positives. I am wondering too, if your DS's girlfriend will isolate? I guess by rights she should. Enjoy your ride, and I agree, there should be ice cream involved!!!
Carol, what did you order from the Mexican restaurant? I am wanting some Mexican right now, but too lazy to actually make it. Will be making the sloppy joes today, that I did not feel like making yesterday. Thank you for asking.....the DD that was sick is DD1, the one who had the bariatric surgery. She is all better, as they were over yesterday for a little bit. It was so nice seeing family again, I hope we don't end up paying for it!
Ok, ladies, I just had to come on here and share with you all, since I do not want to post it on FB.....I talked to Best Buy on the phone this afternoon, and they are now taking appointments to have customers come into the store, to buy!!! We have an apt, for Tuesday, to go in and buy our TV that we found on March 7th, but did not buy it in time before the Pandemic struck. And to make it all the better, they are delivering!!! With a 65" TV, we would want it delivered, especially with the stairs, and DH back. Plus, it being a smart TV, and us cutting the cord, and going with Hulu, the delivery guy will sit with us, and show us how to program the TV. Of course the rules will be in effect; 6' social distancing, which I think we might have a little problem with, while he is showing us the remote and all that, but they said that is fine, and of course everyone have a mask on. And, our printer died this morning, while I was printing out my WW tracker sheets, so we will be getting a new printer too. SO!!! I think I see a light in the Pandemic tunnel....it is dim, but I still see it!!!!

Happy Mother's Day to all. We ended up with a beautiful day here. It is a little windy, but blue skies all day and it was up into the 60's. We started out at 42 degrees. I have no idea where there might have been a cyclone, but not here. It was not that windy! I didn't notice any branches down like a few weeks ago. We were in the city this morning before 10:30. Getting in, we were there in 25 minutes. It was pretty eerie that when we passed LaGuardia Airport, there were absolutely no cars driving around it. I mentioned to my DH that the 11:45 flight I hear arriving every night has not come in in a while.
We had a lovely brunch with Maddie, I even got to feed her a bit. DDIL had pumped, and although DS really wanted to give her the bottle, towards the end I took over. She is just such a sweetie, but of course they all are. The best Mother's Day present I could ask for. I brought in the bagels and lox, and some other fish. DH must have told younger DS that I was annoyed, because they came in for brunch with us this morning, and then went back to NJ. I think DH would have liked to take the herring home, so I am going to have to stop and get him more herring. He bought a big sourdough loaf to have with the dinner he made me yesterday. He made pappardelle with a tomato sauce with bacon fennel ragu. It was delicious. I had left over salad that I made to go with it. Pappardelle is my favorite pasta, it is wide thin ribbons of pasta, and is great with a relatively small amount of sauce. We are going to make grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches for dinner with the left over sourdough bread. I bought 2 containers of soup yesterday too when I bought the bagels, pea soup for me, although no meat in it, and potato leek for DH, which we will have with it. So, I am having 2 of my favorites.
Gareth, sorry for your rainy day, hope you enjoy your ribs. Maybe I will get some for next weekend when we have time to smoke.
Pinky, I really do hope your ground doesn't freeze. Maybe it won't be cold long enough for it to freeze. It's always something with the farmers.
Carol, I would go with DQ too, but we have Carvel here not DQ. One year we went out for a special type of Chinese lunch called dim sum, for Mother's Day, and I topped my day off with a Carvel Sundae. A treat for me.
Yup Anngie, ice cream it is! I might go out for Carvel, but I bought a good flavor of Edy's, chocolate brownie, so I would be happy with that. I do hope that your DS's DGF quarantines, your DS should probably also if he saw her. This is how things keep spreading. I now in our village 3 more people tested positive. Although it's still not even 1%, it keeps creeping up because people are getting complacent. Seeing numbers coming down, they think they can loosen up.
I realized what the big Mother's Day gift for this year should be, hand cream! Don't we all need that. My younger DDIL works for a company called Glossier, they are mostly online cosmetics. She said that's why they just came out with a hand cream, and she is going to get it for me. I told her she could get me any of their stuff as my mother's day gift, I really don't even like when they all spend money on me.

Karen, sorry I forgot you. Enjoy that Smart TV. I think that is what we have. What brand are you getting? We are not using Hulu TV, but do have a Hulu subscription. We watched something on Amazon Prime last night. I loved the book Endurance, which is about Shakelton's attempted exploration of the south pole, and they had something called Shakelton's Captain, which was great because it was something that DH and I would both like. If you have Amazon Prime, and don't get it with the Hulu TV, you can always get a Fire stick, and get it that way. I am obviously not the one to tell you not to allow your DD to come up to your place.

Robin, I'm jealous you got to be with your DGD. I can handle most everything else about the pandemic except not being able to be with the rest of my family. I understand it, but don't like it.
We facetimed with DGS which is always fun. Talked with DD and DS, too. It was a nice day. We got our Mexican food from a local place. I had chicken tacos. They were very good. They put avocado in them and not a whole lot of cheese. They always add chips and salsa to the order. DH went out to get Blizzards.
Our church is scheduled to have in church services 2 weeks from today. They are asking to have every other pew empty and have space between families if you have to share a pew. No hugging. I don't know if it too soon or not. They will still live stream in case some don't feel comfortable coming or are in high risk groups.
Glad everyone had a good day. It was beautiful here.
