Ginny, yes I do have a Janome. I'm going to look into that !/4 inch foot. I know I have a couple "feet" so maybe I already have one. I'll have to check that out. I need to get busy and do some sewing to get practice. I was surprised that I actually was able to sew the masks pretty well. You're sure right about ironing. That was one of the things they taught in the class I went to...how to iron the squares properly. I used to sew without ironing. I learned my lesson. It's so much easier when you iron.I looked up the link you posted. I love the colors of the fabric!
I almost planted my little tomato plants outdoors this morning. I'm sure glad I didn't because we had a thunder storm with high winds and then a lot of hail. They would have been shredded for sure. None of the flower seeds I planted germinated so I guess our yard won't have any flowers this year after the lilacs are gone. We have two kinds of lilacs and this year the ones that never did very well did an outstanding job of blooming. The bushes... I think there's three of them...are covered with very large and bushy flowers..the other bush with the other variety is usually the one that is best but this year it didn't bloom well.
Phyl, bless you that you are so honest.
I'm nearly done with this blanket. Earlier I thought I had made a major mistake but was absolutely not going to tear the whole things our. I was just going to improvise. Then I looked at the pattern again and found that I just hadn't paid enough attention and didn't read it right. I did end up whith the row that was supposed to end with 23 stitches only having 21 but then they next row was just a sc row and you were supposed to decrease by 2 so I just didn't decrease so am now at the number I need to complete the last section.

Good morning all,
CJ- what a difference a day makes with this weather. Glad to hear that you are able to enjoy some cooler temps and less humidity. It would sure be nice to have this weather/temps and humidity all summer. I will have to check out connecting threads- and see if they have a web site, Some catalogs web sites are very similar to their print catalogs. From my limited exposure, it does seem like the quilting world has a fair amount of smaller businesses that provide fabrics/patterns/guidance. I discovered Shabby Fabrics last year- which I think is also a smaller company. Even MSQ was a tiny business in the beginning. Were you able to work with or modify the mask pattern so that it fits you better? Think its a great idea to get those airconditioners out now for a test run. I have seen a large stack of air conditioners in the large food store here- which I know will be sold quickly when there is a strong heat wave.
Oh my! I have a suction cup window bird feeder and am being serenaded by house finches on it- that are less than 10 feet from me. What a treat.
Phyl- yes that was very sweet and honest of you to return that fabric to Chris. How is she handling keeping the store from being too crowded? I have heard of a quilt shop that keeps those colored bracelets on the outside door knob- to enter you must take one and if there are no bracelets, then the store has reached capacity. Rhubarb is so tart- it needs a lot of sweetening or another fruit to make it more pleasant to eat. I have been lazy also....gotta get back to sewing myself.
Ruth, the 1/4 inch feet (made by many different brands) has a small guide that is on the right side of the foot (as looking down from the top, its a small lip that is 1/4 inch from where the needle is). The edge of the fabric butts up against that guide and it really helps making sure that the seam is 1/4 inches. Janome makes a ton of quilting machines- so I feel pretty sure they would have one for your machine. i had a 1/4 inch foot for my singer, it was missing the guide....but did if you lined up the fabric with the edge produce that perfect quarter inch seam. But it relied on you to align the fabric. The Huskie has the same thing - but it includes that tiny guide and it really helps. You just have to practice with it a bit. So sorry that your flower plants did not germinate. Sometimes they do take much longer than it says on the package, and I hope you pleasantly surprised. When is the normal time in your area to get those tomato plants in?
Dd#1 gave me some cantaloupe plants - I put them in yesterday morning- and am shocked how much they grew in only a few hours. Dd#2 was with me most of the day and she brought her new kitten (to get him used to being here for when I watch him while she is on vacation). It was a quiet but good day. Yes, with the cooler temps I slept much better. So thankful for that. I made a big mistake on Friday evening- when I got home from errands and two short visits one with Dd#1 and the other my friend, I put the news on and was horrified to watch the news. I pray that this nation calms down. Anyway, watching the news, and the miserable humidity that we had two nights ago kept me from sleeping well.

Well I'm done with that blanket. I just haveto add a couple more border rows but I'm not happy with it so may not make another. It didn't come out even and it wasn't that decrease row where the two stitches short were. Had to be somewhere else in the pattern. It's not horrible and I probably am the only one who will notice that it's not completely square. People say they block even items made with acrylic. I don't see how that can even work but I might try it just to see if it changes anything.
As you all know I like the heat better than winter but there's not much humidity here so it's easier to tolerate.
Ginny, I know i've mentioned this but I don't get along well with vine plants so I'm sure cantalope would not work for me either. I might try some sometime though. I love cantalope. It was great of your dd to give you some. The flower seeds I'm still keeping moist in hopes that they might still come up but they were old seeds so if they don't I won't be surprised. Kittens are so cute....except when they start scratching at your furniture and shredding the fabric or damaging the finish.
CJ, meant to say the other day, funny you mentioned yeast.I watched a bunch of videos on making bread and rolls and some used rapid rise yeast. I pretty much always use just plain regular yeast. Anyway their breads came out great and rapid rise was available so dh ordered me a pound of yeast! They say it will stay good for years in your freezer. Yeast is pretty much good for a very long time after it's expiration date anyway. And it's funny that I now have a pound because I don't bake much bread. Guess I'll start. Dh likes to have buns, like hamburger buns so I'll make those...at night when it's cool so that I don't heat the house too much.

Ruth, that has to be so disappointing that the afghan did not come out as well as you liked. I know for fact that the quilt I just had long armed has a TON of mistakes- and a trained eye would notice them- but most folks would say it looked pretty good or good enough,. And yes I have blocked afghans made with acrylic and it does make a difference. What will you do with the afghan?? Yes I well remember how you and zucchini plants do not get along, for the life of me I cannot figure out why. This cantaloupe situation is that DGD dumped a bunch of seeds- and it was not discovered until much later when they had already sprouted. So I put the plants in yesterday and they are already growing. My garden is tiny so I hope I am not inundated with cantaloupe plants. I did put in a tomato plant (just one, a cherry tomato) and picked lettuce again....and tied up the peas- which are flowering. As far as kittens go in my house i have one of those multi tiered cat trees and the little fellow figured out very quickly that that was for him to play on. I know you are not looking to get a cat or a kitten but those things really do work and keep furniture from getting abused. There is nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread/rolls and Dh is very lucky that you bake for him. The rapid rise that you got a pound of, is it the active stuff in a brick or packets?? I use rapid rise in the jar....which keeps for 6 months I think once opened.
Glorious day here in my area. Not hot, sunny and a lovely breeze. Gonna go outside for a bit and maybe get a walk in . Ginny

I think my sister has one of those cat trees for her cats.My neice gave it to her for Christmas one year. My neice is a wonderful person and every year goes to the city and picks up my sister on Christmas Eve and my sister spends the night. My neice always gets her a really nice gift.
The yeast I got is actually instant yeast not rapid rise but I think they're very similar if not actually the same. It comes in a compressed bag. Vacuum sealed but once you open it it's just like what your buy in the jar. I'd try it tonight while I have the oven on but i'm too tired now. I defrosted two fridges... long story and you'll probably all think we're weird (and maybe we are) but you may remember that about 4 years ago we bought new appliances,,,fridge, stove, washing machine and the fridge lasted 15 months and died. So instead of again spending a large amount of money on a new fridge we looked online and saw camping size fridges. They were on sale plus you got a $75 rebate from the electric company on each one. So we bought three. One ended up costing $11 and the other two were $39 after rebate and delivered free. Yes it looks weird but it works. They're a decent size too. The bad part is that they aren't frost free and the very small freezer part is open in the back and has only a very flimsy door so they frost up fast and build a LOT of ice. I'm embarrassed to say that I let them go too long and on the one the ice had built up so bad we couldn't close the door of the fridge. So I got busy with my hair dryer and defrosted two of them. For some reason the ohter one...which we keep in the "winter quarters" doesn't build ice like the other two.(we do have a full size separate freezer) Then I made spaghetti sauce and also chili which I'm going to put in the oven later with a cornbread topping so that it will be baked and we can just reheat. Not really summer food.
Ginny, I hope that it's cool enough that you'll be able to get a good rest tonight. Your quilt is beautiful and while experts might be able to see a mistake most people will look at it and be amazed at your beautiful work.My dh even noticed some of the mistakes I made in my afgan. I take responsibility but also it was hard to decipher what the pattern designer was trying to say about where the stitches go.
