Ruth, I went back to your last post yesterday and saw your issue with DMC. The colors I bought yesterday- well I am not sure I would call them metallic but they have a sheen that the other DMC floss does not have.In particular see if you can find any color with an S prefix- I bought S552, which is a purple with a sheen. Very pretty. Maybe Herscheners has them? Dunno.
Babysitting in between my morning and afternoon. Got bad news about our old car, and it needs $600 of work. Think we are going to get rid of it and put my MIL's on the road- which is an old car with low miles.
Have a great day Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - Thanks for the tips on cutting fabric I checked out the stabilizer you mentioned and it has a lot of good reviews on Amazon. Ruth - Thanks for the links to your projects. I think I could make that scarf, it doesn't look too difficult for a beginner like me. The cables on the fingerless gloves are pretty too. Ginny - I'm glad you found some floss, and I bet you enjoyed going to the Christmas Tree Shops Meg - Hope your PT went well today. I went out to a quilt store today and found some of the 12 weight thread I'd been looking for. I bought several spools in neutral colors, and a few in colors that I like. So I've pulled out the quilt block that I want to Big Stitch quilt and I'm going to thread some needles and get working on it. It's only about 12 inches in size, so it should be a good way to practice. I'm using Tiger Tape to space my stitches. I have the Big Stitch size and the 1/4 inch size. I'm going to use the 1/4 inch one since the stitches are smaller. I found the larger stitches on the other tape were just too big for one small block. In case you haven't heard of Tiger Tape, here's a link to their website: www.tigertape.com/Take care everyone!

Ginny, thanks for that info on the DMC. I didn't realize the metallic had an S. Now I'll know what to look for.
CJ, the cables on those gloves are only crochet chains so they're really easy not like the cables you crochet in while making the project itself. I'm glad you found the thread you were looking for.
I've spent all day so far looking at our vacuum cleaners and looking up parts online. Dh brought the "good" but older one in from the garage and found out that something happened to one end of the brush bar or roller so it wouldn't turn. So I ordered a new one. I'm going to try returning the one I bought several months ago tomorrow. I don'tknow if they'll take it or not but they do seem to have a pretty lenient return policy. About a year ago I returned an oval crock pot that I had had for many months, no receipt, and no problem at all. Then if this new brush bar works on the better vacuum I have I might return the one I bought just the other day but probably will keep it as a backup.
I haven't done a bit of crocheting and haven't got the gifts wrapped or packed yet either. I have to go out later in the week or next week to renew my car registration so I'll mail the package then. If I had the card they sent me I could do it online but I think I threw it away. It was due in Nov but we don't drive that car in the winter.
Ginny, speaking of cars, sorry your's would take so much to fix. You heard the story of my woe on this car I'm renewing registration for that I had to pay nearly $1000 to have a new fuel pump put in then just three months and about 100 miles later it went bad again. That one luckily they had to do at their cost. WEll it may actually be bad for a third time but since we haven't driven it all winter I'm not sure. It might just need a new battery but it is 17 years old. Then we have our old Ford Ranger that's 21 years old and dh is still trying to decide what to do with that. I'm sure repairs would be a whole lot but he has these fantasies that it's not something serious. It has just over 100,000 miles on it most of which were put on by the previouos owner and my car that's 17 years old has 86,000 and a lot of that was put on by my son who owned it before. I've had it 10 years and have maybe put on 3000/year which included three trips to Arkansas back in 07 and 08. I don't drive much.

Good afternoon! CJ - well we sure learn a ton from you! I have never heard of Tiger tape- it sure looks interesting enough and if I were making the right project, I might give it a try. So good that you were able to find the thread you wanted. Is that a quilt shop you go in often? Ruth- yes, as I checked the 3 colors I bought the other day, I noticed that "S" and it makes sense. They also had metallic multi packs- but I did not want to buy that much DMC- as I am only making a few bracelets. Hope you can manage to return that vacuum! It's wonderful, isn't it that we can buy parts online? I showed my bracelets to DD (who is home on break) and she even said she might try to make a bracelet or two. She used to make them a lot....I have had fun with her this am, we went for a walk and have just enjoyed each other's company. Regarding our car dilemma- well my driveway looks like a used car lot. I think the best move might be to get rid of the one car that is too expensive to repair- and also MIL's car....both my 2 adult kids that are home agree that keeping that car might also be a "ghost" for Dh. We can get something for MIL's car....I am sure of that. I am also afraid that her car might turn into a money pit. I remember her having it in the shop a lot. No crafting yet today but I have looked at the latest flyer from the LQS (that counts right?) Hi To Meg and Phyl.....hope you are both doing well Ginny

Hello everyone,
It is a wet windy day here. A good day to stay home. I did drive Devin to school this morning. Yesterday I had an apt with the PT and she gave me some exercises to do at home hopefully to help my balance. I will also probably get a walker.
I haven't done any knitting for several days and I want to get the two b/blankets that I am working on finished. I have been reading a lot but not audio books. I have several audio books waiting to be read and then I will get back to my knitting. I was checking out some tutorials on UTube this morning.
Ginny, sorry about your car. Does it have a lot of miles on it? Recently I spent a lot of money on my car, It is a Honda CRV and the mileage is low and I plan on keeping the car as Hondas last a long time and I will not be buying a new car so it was worth while spending the money on it. I don't drive a lot anymore.
Ruth, and cj, hope all is well with you both also Phyl. I will check back later.

hi, we have been at sit and sew since 9.30 this am. got home about 3.15. I spent the time sewing more squares together. got 9 blocks done. will be glad when these are done and out of the house. then I won't do any charity stuff for awhile. takes away to much time from what I want to do.
meg we had our pilot for 14 years before we sold it to jeana. they got rid of the equinox. jeana said that car was so uncomfortable. her hip would bug her the minute she sat in it. they took the pilot to Canada last summer. she emailed us was glad to have the pilot. I kick myself for not sticking with a new pilot. the terrain is ok but not a pilot.
yesterday your high was 64. got to wear light jackets. today we are In the 40's. still nice a little windy. be glad when the temps stabilize. ready for short sleeves and shorts. phyl

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you can get things worked out with your vacuum. I was glad that I got mine serviced last year since it runs so well now. Hope you can get back to your crocheting. Ginny - I hope you get your cars worked out. Sounds like you had a nice time with your daughter, I'm glad you were able to do that and that she might want to make some bracelets too. Meg - I hope the exercises the PT gave you will help and you can do some knitting and listening to your books soon. Phyl - I admire you for working on the charity quilts, that's something I'd like to do some day. Your weather sounds like mine does - in the 60s today, going to be in the 40s tomorrow. I have two older cars and it is tough to figure out which would be better to keep if I purchased a newer car. You just never know how many repairs might be in the future. When I was out today I could feel the transmission shifting in my Buick. I've had this happen before but had it checked and they said it was O.K. and a common problem in these cars. I tried the thread last night and it worked really well on my hand quilting project. The Tiger Tape worked O.K. for a guide, but it kept peeling up which was irritating. I found that after a little bit I was able to space my stitches without using it that much. Take care everyone!

I don't have a Honda but my Ford Contour lasted 16 years without any major repairs needed. One time I had brakes done and that was it till the fuel pump so I really can't complain. Ginny, I'm so glad you're having a great time with your daughter. Mother and daughter relationships are so important and also enjoyable ..usually esp after theyr'e past the young teen stage. Ginny, I did see a lot of multi packs there but today when I was there I forgot to check them out. I'll do that next time. We did return the vacuum cleaner with no problem. The bike dh wanted was gone. I guess because of the great weather we've had the last week and a half or so people we buying bikes. There is one he's thinking about. Meg, weather here today was rainy and chilly too. When we were thinking of going out this morning it was foggy and overcast and had rained a lot during the night. We finally did go and while out the sun came out and temp went up from 44 to 55 but now it's raining again. PHyl, you've done a lot for charity and I'm sure that sometimes in the future you'll do more so it is time to do the things you really want to do. CJ, you must be sewing up a storm. I hope you're having a good day While out we not only went to Walmart but then the dollar store for more wrapping paper and my sensitive toothpaste but several other items hopped into the basket too then went to two grocery stores. My dh had bought me a Cadbury carmel filled candy bar and it cost him $3. I returned it the other day. Now today in one of the grocery stores there were the same bars marked down to 74 cents. I don't know why they'd do that but they also had dark chocolate with raspberry for 74 cents. I got 10 of the caramel then there were only two left so dh picked those up too. I sure don't need to be eating candy but I do have it as a treat now and then.More now than then but I don't eat a lot at a time. Found out today that dgd is having a girl so I can get started on some girl color things just as soon as I get dd's bday things made. The friend that sent me the yarn sent some really pretty pink which she said she used to make a blanket for her dggd when she was born so now I"m going to use the rest to make one for my dggd

Oh there you are CJ, I had the page open from before I started cooking and it still showed Phyl's post as the last one. It does sound like you had a good day. Yes you definitely need a reliable vehicle. people wonder why I have two when dh doesn't even drive and we always go out together...well because living here with no public transportation we have to have something that actually starts.
I'm glad the thread worked the way you hoped it would. I've never heard of Tiger Tape either but then I'm not versed on guilting at all. Oh and I also forgot to check Walmart for the Soft and Stable Phyl mentioned but they probably don't have it. I'll have to go to Hobby Lobby

Just a short hello as I have to go back to work.....Ruth, do check out the multipacks on the DMC- LOTS of funky colors just for young girls. Meg, my mom actually liked her walker as it allowed her to travel around with some items she wanted to carry from room to room. CJ- sorry the tiger tape was not alll you thought it would be- but then it did help you with your spacing....so all in all a good thing .Phyl, you are getting a lot of those blocks done- what a nice accomplishment!
Gotta head back to work......probably will get no crafting done today as I am babysitting tonight.
WIll check back in later on to say hello G

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later. Today I want to finish those fingerless gloves and start another pair of another type. I also want to look thru baby girl patterns.
Those candy bars I mentioned are Ghirardelli not Cadbury...the poor old brain was tired. And I'll do some vacuuming with the vacuum I got last Thursday.
OH and thanks Ginny. I will check those multi packs. I have that multi pack I ordered online but it has no metallics. I'm going to get that out today too I think and cut some lengths so that I can make the chains and braid them while watching mindless tv. and in my spare time just sitting and talking.

Aw Ruth, mindless.....that is what I need!!!! Enjoy chaining and braiding. Those bracelets go so quickly. And I will sooner or later get around to copying the Irish Chain directions for you Ruth. I did not forget! Congrats that DGD is having a girl! What a blessing- when is she supposed to be born?
Busy day- and right now I am waiting for DD to drop off DGS as she and DSIL look at a house. Tomorrow is a big day for DD, DSIL and Ds.. DD has her house inspected for sale, the usual engineering inspection- and Ds goes for a promotion, sort of, in his current job. For those of you who pray....I would appreciate it for DD and DS!. Thank you Ladies.
Ginny, yes it sounds like they will all be having a big day and I've stopped and prayed and will keep them on my prayer list.
Also don't feel in any rush to get that Irish chain copied. I know you didn't forget and it will be awhile before I get to it anyway.
CJ, time sure goes by fast between the new block and the old but it has to be very enjoyable to look forward to and seeing the new blocks each week.
Ginny, now i just have to look back on your old posts to see how many strands of each color to use and how long to cut them. I think you said 50 inches. I tried to google but can't seem to find the directions for the ones you make
