Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I went to the quilt show today and found some nice pieces of fabric at the tables where guild members have donated things they didn't want anymore. I also bought a leather thimble for $1.00. I only did shopping today, because I'll be going back tomorrow with my sister-in-law and I like to look at the quilts on display with her. It was kind of strange to go to a quilt show and not look at the quilts The quilt I'm taking to be appraised is the large pink and white quilt that I bought in February at the big quilt show in Virginia. It's a 25 patch quilt with lots of blocks (probably about queen size). So I'm looking forward to finding out how old it is and what the value is. My sister-in-law is also bringing a quilt to be appraised. She has several antique quilt tops, but is just getting one done this time. I also bought two crocheted doilies today (at the guild tables). The lady who did these did a great job. She used cotton thread and they are really pretty and well done. I only paid $3.00 for each of them and I'm sure it cost her more than that and her time to make them. So hopefully she'll think that someone who bought them will appreciate them Take care everyone!

Hi everyone, Got up late this morning. Did a few errands and now I am home for the rest of the day. The sun is shining here and it is a beautiful day after the rain we has for a couple of days. I am going to try and finish my bb/blanket this evening.
Ruth, I wish you could come and give me my iron infusions. The nurse who does it is very nice and she does try to find a vein. I told her about your suggestion about warming my arm and she said she doesn't have a microwave or whatever she needs to do that. I finished my taxes weeks ago and I like to get it over with. Every year I get a form from Social Security ask me to tell them how I spent the money they give Janet every month. It's not a big deal I just hate filling out forms now that my eye sight is not so good and I have arthritis in my hands.
I don't mind driving in the rain because I don't have to worry about the sunshine. I wish you a good evening. I am going to listen to an audio book and knit.

good evening! Today was one of those interesting days- and honestly, I wish I had just stayed home and puttered around.. Not a bad day- but just far busier than I want.
Meg, glad you are getting to the end of the infusions and that you are not in any discomfort. good news that you got to knit wits! We know you enjoy that.
Ruth, I know it's a pain but you'd better get those taxes done. I always figure I do not want the government keeping any of our money any longer than necessary.
We went to a museum today with friends and a late breakfast out. It felt much colder than predicted....
Got another busy day tomorrow. I do hope to get those two bracelets done tomorrow. All they need is their buttons. Ginny

Meg, it was nice at the hospital because we had blanket warmers and could just get a nice warm blanket out and put it around the patient's arm. In the ER they had a fluid warmer to warm bags of IV fluids for those that came in hypothermic so we could just put a warm bag on the patient's arm. In homes they use disposable diapers that they put in the patient's microwave. And those had warmers that you just squeeze and they warm up would work too. But if they don't have any of those things then they're kind of out of luck on that. A nice rice bag would work great too if they had a micro.
CJ, it sounds like you had a great day shopping and what a deal on the doilies! yes the work involved must have taken a lot of time. That's why I just give away my crocheted things because you can never get enough money for them to make it worthwhile.I'm also interested in how much the quilt is appraised for. Vintage quilts usually have a lot of value.
Ginny, i hope you're having a good weekend. Going to a museum sounds like a lot of fun. what kind of museum was it...art, historical?
I wait till the last minute to do the tax because since I have to pay I don't want to give them my money before I have to but I might as well get it over with and have it off my mind.
I emailed the woman that designed the pattern for the fingerless gloves because she says 16 rows are 7 inches but I had to do 21 rows to get 7 inches and 7 is needed to fit a hand. My ridges are too close together and there are too many of them to do the faux cable. I thought maybe it might be the yarn becuase I'm using wool ease and it seems to be thinner than the other worsted weights and that's what she suggested also. I also may be using the wrong stitches instead of the back loop. So, see, I'm not as good at this as you all said you thought I was. The way the gloves are coming out make really nice fingerless gloves too though. REally nice in fact but I did want to make those cables so I'm going to finish this pair and get another yarn out and try that. She also suggested maybe not making the stitches in the back loops but I do like how the ridges stand up so I'm going to try the other suggestions first.
So I'm going to make another to do list and check things off as I go and see if I can get all the things done other than crochet projects that are just sitting on my mind.
Have a great Sunday everyone!

Good morning!
Ruth, so glad to hear that the woman emailed you back regarding the gloves. I have worked with wool ease before and it does seem thinner by a little bit. Don't beat yourself up, you still had the where with all to adjust the pattern to make it all work...even with adapting the pattern! I do like how it looks when you pick up a back look only- amazing to me how a simple change like that can change the appearance of the crochetting. I did enjoy reading different methods used to warm IV's etc.....nurses surely can do almost anything and are very practical people.
I ordered a Cake Mix last night from Missouri Star quilting. The one I wanted came in.
Getting ready to head off for church....then to BJ's and then babysitting. A very busy day.
Oh, the museum we went to was the West Point Military museum- we went with friends who had not been there before.
Have a great day all Ginny

Ruth, I get my iron infusion at my Drs, station they have a room set aside for that, I used to go to the main hospital and they had a much larger area where they gave infusions to all sorts of patients but they had trouble there giving me an infusion one time. I didn't see anything there that was a warmer. Elsewhere in the hospital they do have warmers for blankets. One night when I was really sick and shivering like crazy they wrapped me in 4 blankets from the warming cabinet.
I have a bag that has I think buckwheat or something in it that I can use but I couldn't find it the other day when I wanted to use it for the swelling on my arm. So I thought I would put a hand towel in the microwave and I got it too hot so I took it into the garage. I left for a few mins. on the floor and when I came back it was really smoking and broke into flames. so I got a pan of water and put it out. No harm done but the smell was terrible. So now I am using my heating pad which works much better.
Not a lot going on here today. Something is wrong with my Nook so I will go to the library and see if there is someone working today who can help me. Otherwise I will try Barnes & Noble.
Ginny, you ordered a cake mix from a quilting co. The West Point Military museum would be a very interesting place to go.
cj, I am glad you got a good for the doilies. You are right they were probably worth much more than you paid for them. However selling craft work you never make enough to cover the number of hours you put into making something.
Have a good day everyone.

Meg, yes you have to be extremely careful ;using a microwave to warm towels, rice bags, etc. If they touch the sides they will burn and sometimes burst into flame and other times just get too hot and either burn you or burst into flames. The rice bags all have warnings not to hear over 1 1/2 minutes. Heating pads are much safer I had to look up quilting cake mix too. I hadn't heard of that one before. Well there's a LOT I haven't heard about quilting and that's just one of them. Well I have two things done on my list and will have one more done before the evening is over. I actually started on my taxes by opening the envelopes all the info came in and I made a list. Now just have to go online and finish it but that's not going to be today. I'm too tired now to concentrate that much. I had made almost the while body of another of those fingerless gloves last night using Red Heart Love which is also a #4 worsted weight but much thicker and it still didn't get wide enough with the 16 rows which would have meant too many ridges for the cables so I took it out and am going to use one size larger hook. The pattern designer must crochet very loosely to get hers to that size or else hooks are different where she lives which I think might be in Australia. I know they have different UK terms and sizes but this was supposed to be in all American terms, etc. I'll keep working on it till I get it right or improvise because I do like the way the gloves turn out with the ridges and fake cables... I'd bet you're all getting tired of my woes just like the shawl woes.

Hello Crafters - Hope you've all had a good day I went to the quilt show again today and saw some really beautiful quilts. I'm always in awe of the designs and colors that quilters pick for their projects. My sister-in-law and I enjoyed looking at them. I also bought a few small pieces of fabric at the vendors. And I found a hand-pieced quilt top at the Guild tables. It's at least a full size top and they were only asking $20 dollars for it, so I bought it. I admire any of the hand pieced and hand quilted quilts, so I was happy to get this. The quilt appraisal was very interesting. The appraiser hangs the quilt up first and takes pictures of it. Then she lays it out and measures it. Then she documents all the parts of it, such as what is the pattern, how many blocks are there, how it was finished, etc. She will take all this information, as well as the information we gave her that we knew about the quilt, and she will email us a written appraisal. I told her I paid $275 for my quilt and she said it will definitely be valued at higher than that due to the large size (around 80x100) and all the excellent hand quilting on it. Take care everyone!

Hi, I have spent the afternoon on UTube checking out the v stitch. I did a sample pattern and think I found a pattern I like. I might start an afghan for my DGD in Florida and use the v stitch Pattern. I like watching the tutorials on UTube. I could also use the pattern for b/blankets and it would be a good way to use up some of the yarn I have.
Ruth, I have used my bag with the busk wheat or what ever it is for years. I brought it back from Ireland. My nephew's wife gave it to mew because I was always cold. It's around here somewhere but since my DGD bought me a heating pad I don't use it much anymore. I don't get tired of you discussing your pattern problems. We all have them along with our other problems.
cj, you did have an exciting day at the quilt show. Nice to find out that your quilt is worth more than you thought. I am sure you are looking forward to hearing what it is worth.
I need to get off the computer. Have a good evening.

I just lost my message..well the part I had done. My computer's been doing weird things lately.
CJ, I just love seeing quilts as I've mentioned before but I do feel bad too when I see them because I don't have that talent. I shouldn't feel that way because God did give us all different talents for a reason. I'm glad to hear that your quilt is worth more than you paid but I'm not surprised.
Meg, I guess this will be the last messages on this thread since tomorrow is Monday again already and we'll have a new one so before I forget I just wanted to say sorry that your Nook is acting up again. I hope that you can get someone to fix it for you or did you already? If you're referring to the crochet V stitch, yes it's easy. It's just two double crochets in one stitch then you have to skip a stitch between because the two in one stitch would add another and make your blanket wider and wider and all bunched up. Yes, it's a nice stitch for baby blankets and for a lot of things. I might use it in one of my pairs of fingerless gloves. Don't know if I mentioned it but I'm going to make all the grands here and the grands in law those for Christmas next years and MAYBE a hat for the guys and infinity scarf for the girls to go with them. Yes I have a lot of plans. I'm working on these fingerless gloves and am now up to a J hook from the H suggested in her pattern.Tried the I but still too narrow.
Ginny, have a good day at work tomorrow. How are those children you mentioned to us...the ones with the troublesome father?
