This is really upsetting. We all want businesses to open up again, we all want to get back to some semblance of pre-COVID life. But when State health departments are fudging numbers to make things look better than they actually are, who can we trust to help us open up safely? "In at least a dozen states, health departments have inflated testing numbers or deflated death tallies by changing criteria for who counts as a coronavirus victim and what counts as a coronavirus test, according to reporting from POLITICO, other news outlets and the states' own admissions. Some states have shifted the metrics for a “safe” reopening; Arizona sought to clamp down on bad news at one point by simply shuttering its pandemic modeling. About a third of the states aren’t even reporting hospital admission data — a big red flag for the resurgence of the virus." www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/bad-state-data-hides-coronavirus-threat-as-trump-pushes-reopening/ar-BB14GGZj?ocid=msedgdhp

I know- it's very disturbing when we (the public) need facts, not lies.

A lot of what's going on seems to be political! Do they really care about us, the people? Just my feelings.

We've had that in PA. Some of the counties that were in yellow, held back rates of new cases. They reported them a week late (or more) so it looked like they were slowing down. They were able to go into green.
That's crazy. Their numbers are still high, they should go back to yellow or red. But no, they won't do that.
I'm also going to apologize right now for those of you on FB. But FB is not a source of true data! My brother and friends from home are getting their info only from FB, They are a very rural county so they've only had 11 cases and none were hospitalized.
They take these FB numbers and come down here to protest re-opening, when we are still having a high rate of new cases.
A friend of mine sent me a picture with all the numbers of deaths from January from COVID-19, the flu, car accidents, abortions, etc. It was the lowest so he's using that to show it's not dangerous.
DH works for 911 so he's in on government meetings with many different agencies daily. They've seen that post The COVID-19 numbers were three weeks old The other numbers were from January of 2019- present.
I normally just don't argue, it's easier that way.
Sorry, I'm in a ranting mood today.
Stay safe

The numbers are BS anyway - with less than 3% of the population tested, they mean nothing. This isn't an exit poll during an election where a "sample" is extrapolated into real numbers. They need to stop guessing what the numbers are and test more people and get facts. hpeterson1951, joining you on the rant day antics lol

We live in Van Buren County. Our neighbor who had Covid was tested in Allegan County. His wife believes he was counted in Allegan County where he was tested, not where he lives, not an accurate count there. Besides they never did any follow up, like did he stay in and who did he expose. Proof of otally inaccurate information!

And then there is this. >>His neighbors in Elgin, Tex., were still wearing masks outside, even after it was no longer mandated by the county. He did not think such a response was necessary, he said, and he wanted to push back. “Sorry, no mask allowed,” read the poster taped to the front door of his bar Friday. “Please bare with us thru the ridiculous fearful times.”<< www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/05/28/masks-not-allowed-coronavirus/?I fear that this is going to get screwed up badly.

Found out that our governor, who I think is doing a great job overall, was able to purchase some jewelry during shutdown. She placed the order over the phone, someone picked it out for her and put it outside so it could be picked up. There was no contact, but someone had to go in and open up the store for this purchase. I'm very disappointed and feel it sends the wrong message. What was so important that she needed THAT jewelry at this particular time.

I fear we are going to end at a point where people who feel they are not at much risk will be out and about, and those who are classed as vulnerable will be sheltering, masking, disinfecting for a long, long time.

fullmahina , DotRen , mac , hpeterson1951 , healthyjoy , luanne , lani , finreporter , All good posts and I share your sentiments. I have been cynical for some time about a lot of things in general and think you need to be that way to survive in this world. I'm going to take care of myself and my husband. Will just have to evaluate the threat to my health in each situation I encounter. In a way we are all playing Russian roulette, especially those of use that are older and/or have pre-existing conditions. It is nice to have this place to rant.

fullmahina Elgin,TX is a small town with a population of only 10,000. I live in the country about 20 minutes from there and that is where we do our grocery shopping and go to Walmart.I had heard about this on the Austin local news channels and it's all over our Next Door App. People can be really mean when they post and don't have to look at you to tell it to your face. I have never been to this tavern and never plan to go but I think he is a total a$$hole covidiot. He does represent a majority of the downtown business owners unfortunately but thank goodness not the majority of our town. The owner is doing this because the government can't tell people what to do according to him.Well nobody has to frequent his place of business then.Unfortunately the people who do also shop at HEB and Walmart and can spread it there. My DH and I still wear masks when we are out but since our idiot governor says his executive orders supersedes all local city orders.Governor Abbott highly recommends wearing face masks if you cannot stay 6 feet apart.Notice I said recommends. No order in place and you can't be cited for non compliance.HEB used to not let you in unless you wore a mask but since you can't enforce it they have stopped that and there are more people not wearing them.Employees still wear them and Walmart's customers seem to be more compliant. I have been on a rant for some time about this 1 horse town and their views on Covid. You know the "it wouldn't happen here" is not valid. There are 50 plus cases in the town alone and I want to say about 27 cases in unincorporated areas which is I guess us country folks. However we have had 1 death from Elgin and 1 from somewhere in our county. So yes it does happen here.

I believe stores/businesses should be allowed to set their own dress codes, including masks. We were picking up groceries and saw 2 adults go into the store barefooted! Not to mention NO ONE was wearing a mask, but bare footed? Come on that's always been a no-no. We didn't hang around to see if they were escorted out, but I hope they were.
