borntexan, my sister lives in a town in Texas, north of Dallas/Fort Worth. The official population of that town is less than 1500. She and her SO wear masks and use hand sanitizer, etc. Fewer and fewer people in the town are wearing masks and seem to not be concerned at all about the virus. Their county shows 42 cases with 2 deaths but really, who knows what the true count is. My sister is living by the motto "Save Yourself." According to her, there is no talking sense into anyone there. So be it.

That is so true fullmahina. Our county and specifically our town had another death reported and we now have 200 cases in the county with 85 recovered. They call us mask wearers sheep and scared. They say if you are so scared stay home. I'm not scared.I'm trying to be thoughtful of not spreading it to other people.

there seems to be a huge difference in the emotional intelligence of those refusing to wear a mask (and thus calling everyone else who wears one "sheep" and "living in fear") and those who wear one when in public in accordance with guidelines based on science.

How many times must it be repeated that wearing a mask is mainly to protect others more than oneself? Willfully ignorant, I say again.

there seems to be a huge difference in the emotional intelligence of those refusing to wear a mask (and thus calling everyone else who wears one "sheep" and "living in fear") and those who wear one when in public in accordance with guidelines based on science. My husband I were talking about this last night and I was saying that it's not that there is a huge swath of America that is just plain old dumb - as in low IQ/intelligence. There is also a huge swath - perhaps even larger than the 'born stupid' folks - that are just intellectually not curious in any way. I feel like it's them that are the true sheeple. They dont/wont do their own research on what's true or false, they just want someone to tell them what they want to hear and tell them what to do. Most folks who are wearing masks and taking precautions are sensible folks who understand science and while they might not be health specialists, they know where to get reliable information from and they know how to weigh risks, etc. But these folks who are now trying to bully us into stopping our safety behaviors - I think it's because they are weak minded and scared themselves, and we remind them that they shouldn't be doing whatever it is they're doing. We are a reflection of what they are not, and they don't like that. They want us to remove our masks and stop distancing so that they can go back to putting their heads in the sand and hiding from reality. These are the people that probably don't even know what's going on in Minneapolis right now.
It's a shame that COVID-19 cannot only hit those who are acting stupidly. If it did, perhaps we'd be able to clean out the gene pool of these morons, but sadly that's now how it works. I heard a story on NPR yesterday about a young 10-something man, vibrant much-loved member of his community, who died of COVID-19, he was from a small town in W. Virginia. I wondered, do the townspeople there now believe that this virus is real? Are they now engaging in social distancing and wearing masks, or do they STILL not get it?
