fullmahina, I've been using the Johns Hopkins tracking map since this began, it's very detailed and I thought you might be interested in checking it out:
What's so interesting - and sad - about the World Map, is the difference between the USA and Canada...

surfgirl , thanks---that's a good site! And now this: Florida. Positive cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are going up since their "re-opening." No, it's not because of increased testing because hospitalizations are going up too. There is no explanation for increased hospitalizations other than the fact that severe cases are increasing in mumber. Gotta love their response. Basically, it's okay because we have room in our ICU's for you. "Most important is the number of ICU beds and ventilators that are being used for COVID patients. In Florida, with more than 6,000 ventilators and 1,500 ICU beds available, the state has 25% availability to handle any surge.” Party down, dude, we have the ventilators! floridapolitics.com/archives/338331-florida-covid-19-deaths-nearly-doubled-since-phase-one-reopening?

But that's what it's ALWAYS been about -room in the ICU and ventilators. 😢

But that's what it's ALWAYS been about -room in the ICU and ventilators. EXACTLY but apparently there are a lot of people out there who see the loosening of restrictions as a sign that the virus itself is disappearing. The reason the curve flattened was because precautions were being taken, not because the virus became less virulent. You can't fix stupid and I gave up a long time ago. Well, maybe not all that long ago---about three years now. Deaths from COVID-19 appear to be acceptable as collateral damage now, gee whiz too bad but we gotta get things going.

fullmahina, Sweden who didn't do restrictions ended up with over 4,000 deaths, mostly elderly in care facilities. The deaths for their two neighboring countries were just over 500 for one and just over 200 for the other. The guy they interviewed for the article said their decisions were just fine but that they didn't expect the death of the elderly in care facilities.

fullmahina, I went back and checked on the Times article again and what I was trying the other day worked this time. I think there was a problem with my computer. I remembered that about the same time my "likes" on Reddit weren't registering either.

He considered other countries reactions an overreaction Because certain demographic groups are to be considered disposable. Judy, you and I are considered acceptable collateral damage by many. They are simply okay with tossing human beings aside that they deem old and in the way. I guess "All Lives Matter" unless you want to hang out in a bar or go to a gym or get your roots touched up. Sorry, a little cranky this morning.

Here is a link to a Washington Post article Yep, it looks like that epidemiologist is a little taken aback by what happened. "Swedish authorities have consistently denied that they were aiming to achieve full-population immunity by keeping much of their public life humming as usual. They said that if they protected the elderly and other vulnerable groups while allowing others to carry on, the country might be more resilient in the face of a second wave of infections and avoid the economic chaos of a total shutdown." How idiotic, considering that they could see what had already happened in other countries. How special did they think they were? Hygge only goes so far, lol.

No, it's not because of increased testing because hospitalizations are going up too. Yes, daily new hospitalizations. That is the number I always look for.
