Our local nursing home just reported 7 workers and over 20 residents tested positive and the residents have been isolated with no outside visitors allowed.
So yes while the broad reopening in Texas is a key factor and those numbers are from Memorial Day weekend it doesn’t take into effect the nursing home and too early for any new cases from the protests that they plan to carry on for a total of 45 days.

borntexan , I think the recent spikes in certain states are being attributed not only to the "opening up" but also due to large gatherings that occurred on Mother's Day and Memorial Day. I am just shaking my head here. We're continuing with the behaviors we've adopted since this all started. I have no faith, no trust in others at this point. You know that young neighbor of mine who spent six weeks in the hospital, most of it on a ventilator, and survived COVID? I just saw a FB pic from his barber showing the barber visiting his home last week to give that guy and his son haircuts. Despite the fact that hair salons and barbershops were not cleared to open until this week and that included home shops and visits to private homes. Another blatant example of "DOES NOT APPLY TO ME." I think the final straw was when that guy came home and the whole neighborhood came out to greet him, no masks, no social distancing, holding babies, little kids running around. I have to say that I sort of expected them to do that, knowing the mentality of many here. But to see it from my window made me realize, once and for all, that we are all responsible for doing what we can do, within our own capabilities, to make things as safe for ourselves that we possibly can. So many others simply do not give a flying fajita.

fullmahina Our hair salons and barbers have been open a couple of weeks I think but at least locally nobody has cut hair at homes as far as I know. Not all salons have opened up either although they can. bbbearsmom Judy That is what their intentions are in Austin I heard over the weekend.I don't know how many days/nights they have been in front of the Austin police department and the state capitol but I think they are wanting to do it for a total of 45 days. They have closed down the interstate 2 weekends and forced police to remove them and unfortunately police have seriously injured two of the protesters and they are still in the hospital. They were shooting the bean bag ammo at them and they hit one by mistake yet he is still in the hospital and expecting a long recovery.Since then the protests have been mostly peaceful but it is 97 and humid here today and may get up to 100.Even if they wait until night to go out to protest there could be heat related problems as well.It was hot this last weekend and most of the calls EMS received were heat related. It's a bad situation on both sides. I can only imagine what Houston is like today after the funeral with traffic and I have no idea if they plan on protests there tonight.

For the first time there are 2000 hospitalized for Covid19 in Texas.
Governor Abbott justified his reopening strategy on there being plenty of hospital beds and ventilators for Covid19 patients. You just can’t cure stupidity.

surfgirl , I was just repeating what I saw on the news, can't even remember if it was local or national news. They didn't break it down, but I looked up the counties with the most current cases: LA San Diego Riverside Orange San Bernardino Alameda Santa Clara Kern SF As we've said, hospitalizations are more important than actual cases. I better check that now. ETA: Well, it was a newspaper report in two papers. Both headlines say "9 Counties Reporting Spike in Covid Cases" (paraphrasing), but no where in either article do they list all nine counties. Worst reporting ever. (Well, no, not ever.) They did reference Sacramento and Fresno. Who knows?
