It's all about the numbers these days.
The 2 most important and telling are hospitalizations and ICU.
Ohio is trending down.
6/12/20
Hospitalizations 61
ICU 13
How are your numbers today?

New Mexico is at 180 hospitalizations. I didn't see a number for ICU.

I don't know exact numbers but Texas is getting out of hand again. They keep saying this could be the second wave but we haven't straightened the curve from the first one yet.

This is from an email from our local city council:
As of June 12, LA County has:
68,959 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 2,818 total confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 1,973 people with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 currently in our county hospitals 367 nursing home facilities with a confirmed case of COVID-19 An average of 1,126 new cases of COVID-19 and 35.9 deaths due to COVID-19 per day
The recent data show an increase in cases. It’s critical to remember that careful, distanced reopening is not a call for return to life as normal.

the email is also recommending that if you could not distance 6 feet and were not wearing a mask and nor were the people with whom you could not distance (from outside your household), to do a 14 day self-quarantine.

WNY hospitalizations are under 100, first time we’ve been that low since March. We’ll be entering Phase 3 on Tuesday.

In the beginning I was glued to reports citing numerical data but now I look more towards stuff like this for info. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/06/12/876224115/coronavirus-second-wave-nope-were-still-stuck-in-the-first-one?And sadly, stuff like this: Our 40-year old neighbor that survived 6 weeks in ICU, most of it on a ventilator, was re-admitted to the hospital a few days ago. Went to the ER for extreme pain and shortness of breath. Turns out he now has pneumonia and devastating damage to his lungs. He had surgery today. Info is sparse, unlike his first hospital admission where there was a daily FB update. His sister commented that "the pulmonary doctor says it doesn't look good." Husband, father of two, previously healthy guy. This truly sucks. Really, people---don't try to second-guess this thing. It is BAD. Frankly, I take little comfort in all the "precautions" outlined regarding the opening-up of the economy, all the supposed care being taken to protect customers, gym-goers, passengers, diners. I will be honest, this thing scares me. I have taken care of highly contagious patients in negative pressure rooms for many hours at a time, fully outfitted in PPE, and I am definitely not a Nervous Nellie about such things (or I never would have spent decades as a ICU RN) but I have never felt so much trepidation as I do now. Everyone has the right to decide for themselves how much risk is acceptable for them but we're staying in hunker-down mode until we see how this all plays out.

Yeah, it really is. A few weeks ago his little girl brought over Girl Scout cookies that we ordered long before this all started. She was so cute....we paid for the cookies and then we threw them in the garbage. I hate this.

i know, people are desperate to return to "previous normal" but we don't have this completely under control yet. i am not wiling to take such risks at this time. the gym can wait, i will do my exercises at home. my hair can wait, i will get it trimmed and re-highlighted later, probably several months from now rather than sooner. i don't need to be in a restaurant or a movie theater. i can do takeout, cook for myself, and buy releases on amazon. i can do my own manicure, pedicure and (TMI) waxing of the nether regions. sally beauty supply ships free on all orders over $40. so i'm good there. i really want to protect myself, my little girls and basically do my part to help prevent the spread.

finreporter , I truly love your take on this. Hunker down, weather the storm, and come out of this whole mess stronger. There is no sense in rushing things. The economy is going to suffer, our sense of what is normal is going to suffer. But if we come out of this alive we will have won. Tears, dammit.

and not only will we come out of it alive, we won't kill others in the process! i'm not willing to be the reason someone's grandma (or young person like your neighbor) dies or has a severe reaction to the point of a life-long lung condition. all because i had to get out to a restaurant or whatever the getting out there is. i will figure out other ways.
in LA, the botanical gardens are all open again, and they are on extreme restricted timed tickets and you MUST wear a mask in order to enter. i'd like to just chill and do things like that.

THIS. Over and over and over again. This is the way we need to view this mess. Without selfishness, without thinking of only ourselves and our wants thinly disguised as needs.
