That’s why I can’t figure out why CA is in any kind of opening phases at all. We never had the decline in numbers for any trendable amount of time before reopening.

AFAIK NY is opening strictly by the numbers. Cuomo has said that if numbers start looking bad things are going to shut down again. I can only imagine the deafening whining that will happen if that comes to pass.
This outdoor dining thing that they are allowing now, putting tables out in parking lots and on sidewalks, is starting to cause an issue. People are eating at the tables, ordering drinks, walking around with drinks and starting to gather in clusters. No masks because hey, diners do not have to wear masks, only servers. The weather is getting nicer and people are lingering outside. Some restaurants have placed limits on table dining, most often 90 minutes. But then people get up with their margaritas in plastic cups and hang out in the parking lot or in the street.
I will have my own homemade margarita on my porch or deck and wait this out, thanks.

I don't think we're out of the first phase yet.

Jennifer , a lot of the reporting agencies don't report on the weekends. Are these new hospitalizations or total?? ETA: sorry, didn't notice the date. So it is trending down? The numbers are updated every day at 2pm. It's the change in the last 24 hours. I just notice they are a bit low on the weekends do I question them. To answer you though, yes they are trending down. Across the board, our numbers are the best they've been so far. I just don't have much faith in them staying that way.

Same. I don’t need restaurants for now. We will continue to do take out. I do want to support local businesses. I would do takeout, just not feeling a need to dine in a restaurant. I miss the restaurant experience for sure. But that desire for a restaurant experience does not outweigh my desire to keep people and myself safe.

But that desire for a restaurant experience does not outweigh my desire to keep people and myself safe. Before the shut down we would eat breakfast out every Sunday, and eat dinner out maybe once a week. Dh is the cook and he liked to have a break. Since the shut down we've done takeout more than we used to eat out. Usually about two dinners a week, a lunch and our Sunday breakfast. A big part is to support the local restaurants, but also still to give dh a break. We also bought some gift certificates and ordered products from local vendors.
I don't think the current restaurant experience, at least where we are, is what I want to go back to at this time.

The reason the TX governor will not mandate face masks is because he thinks people will do what is best for them.Right!!! Keep believing that Governor Abbott aka Covidiot. The only place in my small town that requires them that I have been in is my physical therapist office. They still take temps at the door and everyone must wear a mask. It's hard for an hour at a time but not unbearable.
We finally decided to try going back to our church services last Sunday.A few were wearing masks but not many. They would wear them in the door and when they left which didn't make much sense to me.I told my DH afterwards I didn't feel comfortable going back until they can open fully. One man was there and he like the others wore a mask in and when he got to his pew took it off and then put it on before he left.I don't know why people thought they needed them in the parking lot only.Anyway he called our pastor yesterday and told him he and his wife whom I did not see there and I don't think I have ever seen anyone with him both tested positive. He has no symptoms but his wife have pneumonia. Did they decide not to have services today? Of course not.Granted they do have every other pew taped off but they only require you to leave room for 2 people between your family and someone who isn't. They did ask anyone with a compromised immune system or who felt ill to please stay home. These people are from another town and they could have contracted it there. I don't know but I'm not going back from awhile. At least they did ask people to wear masks today.Last week it was only recommended.I hope both recover quickly and I'm sure the man didn't feel ill when he was at church or he wouldn't have come but I hope everyone there is more cautious now.
Yes I do wish the governor would mandate masks in HEB and Walmart.Their employees at both places have to wear them and people should be willing to protect them.

He showed up to church services knowing he was positive and wore no mask?
I don’t understand the wearing of masks in the door only to take them off during service. I’m guessing it’s because they think they’re being conscientious by having one on at all. The pastor should tell everyone they can come to service only if they wear a mask the whole time. We know that is unlikely but it would be the prudent thing to do.

finreporter I really don't think the man was feeling ill when he came to church last week.He still has no symptoms.I think they probably were tested when his wife became more ill.Our pastor doesn't wear a mask when he preaches and our choir isn't up front now either because of the other case.I don't think he was taking this seriously enough last week and that isn't normally his style. He does go by what the governor said churches can do. In Texas local counties orders can't supersede the governor's orders although Travis County which has Austin in it has been slower to open than the rest of the counties because cases keep going up and up. They did tell everyone to wear masks today but since I didn't go today I don't know whether they did or not.

"In New York City, it is illegal to drink alcoholic beverages in public places; this also includes possession of an open container of alcohol. This is true whether or not you are of legal age and applies to drinking alcohol or alcoholic beverages in parks, on streets, or in any public place." Cuomo made it clear in today's televised press conference that this illegal behavior is not going to be tolerated. The Governor noted the city received 25,000 complaints that people were not following the open container law. Gov.
