Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I'm glad the gingham pattern is working out for you, I'm sure it will be really pretty. Ginny - I'll keep your dear cat in my thoughts, it's so difficult to make that decision to let them go Hope you got all your errands done. I'm sure the falling charms quilt is looking good, that is such a pretty pattern and really highlights the fabrics. The only time I've washed fabrics before making a quilt was when I was doing hand-piecing. Otherwise, I've just used the fabric the way it came. Of course I only have a few of my quilt tops that I've made into quilts, so not telling what will happen when they are finally washed For pressing, I was so happy when I discovered that Best Press. I love how it takes the wrinkles out of fabric and makes them easier to cut and sew with. The only time I don't use the starch now is if I'm going to be hand quilting a small piece. I went out to shop at Target and Costco this morning and the stores weren't too crowded. I did get most of what I was looking for and now I'm stocked up well with paper products. I was happy to find some canned green beans at Target since I haven't found them in the store for the last few months. But shopping is just not a pleasant experience anymore, I found it was really getting hard to breathe through my mask so I'm dreading the summer when it's even more hot and humid than today. Take care everyone!

Went out today for the first time inside a grocery store. We stopped first at the convenience store for gas and had one problem after another. My dh has COPD but still smokes. I ran in to buy cigarettes and they said I needed ID. I defiinitely look over 50. She still insisted so back out to the car I went and dropped my little case I keep my license and credit cards in and they went flying so had to climb under the truck to get them out. The we couldn't find the little dohicky that opens the door where the gas cap is. I went back into the store to get the cigarettes while dh hunted. I came back out and tried to put my credit card into the card reader and it wouldn't work. I tried another...still woud't work so we gave up and went on to the grocery store without getting any gas after all. Very, very few customers had masks. I think that all the employees had masks though. The store had gotten rid of all their bulk foods...wonder what they did with all those good nuts, etc. So after all the problems at the convenience store, dh was even more anxiey ridden than usual. At least we won't have to go back for awhile

There's a secret to the elastic, hearing aid and mask issue. People who crochet have been making a small strip, perhaps 2-3" long, 1/2 " + wide with a button on either end. Keeps pressure off ears and doesn't involve hearing aids. Would also work with a piece of doubled or quadrupled fabric.
It's been raining and cool. 50s, but things will get back to the 70s in a few days.
I've been getting very little done. Talked to DD today. Wish I were closer geographically, but I'd still be social distancing.

Good morning! Ruth, that sounds like quite an ordeal between the convenience store and the grocery store. Funny story about being proofed to buy cigarettes for Dh. When we went away upstate 4 years ago I went to purchase wine in the food store and was ID’ed there. I laughed so hard- but so as not to insult someone they proof everyone now. So sorry that you dropped all your cards- yes I have had that happen also. And its so frustrating. Its sad to hear that so few customers in the store wore masks. Here you are not allowed into the store without one and its reinforced. I read that the bulk food areas are really bad for spreading germs- even though they now know that really the main way to spread Covid is through personal contact over an extended period of time. Well I am glad that you wont be going out for awhile....that leaves you home to crochet. BTW- the other day you mentioned making a quilt out of some peanuts fabric. It should be pretty easy to do.....is it a panel or many smaller prints ? Who is the peanuts fan in your family?
CJ- I know Best Press is a life saver!!! What a struggle it is to press quilting projects without it. (Thanks for the reminder, I am almost out) Glad you got out for some errands too- and that for the most part, Costco and Target were productive for you. Yes you could have bought canned beans at Costco- but would have had to buy enough to feed an army there!! I hear ya, shopping is not the fun that it used to be. I used to enjoy going into Walmart- household items, craft supplies etc..... not sure that I will want to do that soon- but there are a few things I want to take a look at.
Heard a nasty rumor from a friend yesterday that Hobby Lobby is closing for good. Dd and I checked it out online, and it appears to be just a rumor. I have a gift card from there, Dh had given it to me and I already know what I will purchase with it....so perhaps that will be my first “shopping” excursion. Ends up yesterday that I quickly got out the spray paint and refinished that wrought iron headboard and end table that were my grandma’s. (She was born in 1885, so they are truly antique). Other than a little touch up, I am super happy with the results....will finish the paint off today on those areas I missed. So I guess that was my crafting for the day. Both DD’s were here yesterday- but not together. good to see both of them but I wish they would bury the hatchet.
My cat- he is not 100% but much improved. I gave him another dose of the medicine to encourage him to eat- that seems to be working. He is such a good cat- even Dh loved him.
Its supposed to be a hot day today....and the heat is supposed to get worse over the weekend. Guess I will get my walk in this am.
Have a good day all Ginny

Sue, sorry I missed your post!! Is this the Dd on the east coast or the west?? ( I am thinking of the Dd who had covid, how is she feeling?). Raining and cool sounds nice to me....better than too hot. Take care

CJ, I'm glad you got throught your shopping trip ok. We don't have a Costco but we have a Sam's. We used to go there and actually got a few really good bargains. I also have't been to Target is years. Years ago I used to get fantastic prices on some toys for the grands at target.
Ginny, I forgot to mention the antique nightstand, etc. They sound fantastic to me and will really be great accompanying your quilt. You are sure multi talented. I remember back when I first met you in this group that you refinished a coffee table. I know it was great to see your daughters yesterday but sorry to hear that they have ill feeling between them. My son and daughter get along ok but they don't stay in touch with each other.Yes after my experience when I went to get my pickup order from Walmart last month I wasn't surprised to see that few people here wore masks. The store has the aisles marked in very small print. No one was following that. There were also a lot of people inside the store and at the cashier there was a small sign on the floor saying "wait here" but no one social distanced.
The Peanuts fabric is some I bought at Walmart every now and then back when I was planning on using the fabric to make scrub tops for work. I was required to start IV's on children when the nurses in pediatrics or ED couldn't get them and also take care of children's central lines.I thought the fabric of my scrubs would put them at more ease.I think I have about four different ones..one is Christmas, another Thanksgiving and I really don't remember what the others are. But all the pieces have Peanuts characters all over the fabricbut they're fairly large characters. The trick will be to cut them so that there is one of the characters in each block. I'm a big Peanuts fan. I especially like Snoopy and Woodstock.

Well I sent an email to my senator who is Dr Barasso about my stimulus check as we still haven't received ours. I'll see what happens with this

About the stimulus check - my deceased sister received a letter about two weeks ago saying that hers would be arriving soon. Good grief. We're coming up on two years in August. This afternoon, three boxes of her things arrived. I'm going to unpack them tomorrow. This is mainly pottery I think. The item I unwrapped is a ceramic decorated fish that holds two candles. I think this particular piece was from Lake Titicaca, a trip my father took with them, perhaps 50 years ago. It's too late to start tonight.
Hobby Lobby just opened a new store here yesterday. We already have michaels, joanns and four quilting stores.
West coast DD. They're all doing well for now. They were tested, and although the test results can be ambiguous, it wasn't covid 19 after all.
Another aspen tree broke off. This one broke at about 10-12' up. Very strange. There was no wind last night. The tree guy came out to check. They're coming on Monday to cut it down and do some work on another area. Lots of calls today, but I still need to make more! Rain gutters, broken window.

Ruth, sounds like what you might want to do is applique a fun process of cutting out shapes you like and then sewing them onto the quilt top. I would practice the process first.- missouri star quilting has good directions and there are many good youtubes. Your machine has to do a good satin stitch- and because you have a Janome, I am sure it would do a fine job. Or you can skip the applique and just have uneven sized blocks....so it might be a bit of a crazy quilt but then with a Peanuts theme, it should be a fun quilt!
So glad you contacted your senator about your stimulus. You and Dh could do a lot of fun things with it- perhaps a home renovation or donate to a charity- you deserve it. Hope your senator helps! (Wish he could find my tax refund while he is looking for your stimulus check).
Got 3 rows done on the afghan. 10 more rows to go and then the border and its done.
And I have to buy one more can of spray paint....it covered really well, but there are a lot of textures to this headboard- so I need more spray paint. Looks good and I am happy with the results. Now to paint the room- which will be some massive project.
My son in law enforcement is discouraged- don’t blame him one bit.
Warm and humid here.....its summer, but that does not make me happy. Cooler weather is more pleasant.
Night all Ginny

Hello Crafters Ruth - Sorry to hear about your ordeal trying to get gas, I would have just left too! I hope you can get back one day and it will be easier. I'm glad you were able to get your groceries though. And I sure hope you can hear something about your stimulus check! Ginny - I'm glad your cat is doing alright, hope that continues. I hope you can get the spray paint to finish that project. I'm happy for you that your are almost done with the afghan. Sue - Hope you can get the things done around your house. I've had to have trees cut down and things worked out for your gutters and windows. Phyl and Meg - Hope you are doing well. It's gotten hotter and humid here, so I'll be keeping the blinds and curtains closed and staying inside. I'm happy to have made it over halfway through June without too many really hot days. I had pulled out some fabric and thought about making another Scrap Dance Mystery quilt top in a larger size but after looking at the fabrics for a few days I wasn't happy with the combination so I put it away. Instead I pulled out my apple themed fabrics. I've been saving apple fabrics for years and probably have about 12 different fabric cuts. I pulled 6 of them that go together pretty well and I'm cutting them up into 9 inch pieces. I'm going to do some sashing with a solid red fabric and a solid green (almost lime green, but kind of apple green) fabric and sew them in rows of 4 across and 6 down (so 24 blocks). Then I'll decide about borders. I do have one really pretty apple fabric that I think would look good for borders, so I didn't cut it up. I also pulled out some Christmas fabrics since I think I'm going to participate in Pat Sloan's Jelly Snowflake Sew Along in July. Here's a link to info: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/jelly-snowflake-sew-along.htmlI don't have a jelly roll to use but they said you only use 14 strips from the jelly roll, so I can cut those from my own Christmas fabrics. I found a nice cream fabric with some gold on it to use for the background. If you click on where it says to download the supply list you can see the layout of the blocks. I saw a quilt the other day when I was looking at websites that I really love and would like to make the quilt exactly as it is. They had a free pattern that they sent to you if you signed up for emails, so I did that. Here's a look at the quilt (Layer Cake Coin Quilt): shequiltsalot.com/I just love the look of those aqua fabrics together. I'll have to think about this since I see the layer cake is still available to buy on Amazon and at one other place, but I bet it will be gone soon since it's over a year old. Take care and have a great weekend!

Covid 19 cases are increasing in our county, as well as statewide, but the number of people in the state is small, too. Seems to be a younger bar age crowd for the most part. There aren't enough details to know whether they're in town of other parts of the county.
Today is beautiful, blue sky, just a few clouds, a pleasant temperature. A very gentle breeze!
The oriental poppies here are starting to bloom. So pretty. They're close to the dwarf Korean lilacs, and there's lemon time around the stepping stones. Hostas are filling out, and the clematis is starting to climb.

Hi CJ- gee that Layer cake coin quilt is so pretty.- yes the aqua fabrics are stunning and play off each other so well. Now that you have the patten for free, well it makes sense to order the fabric from whereever you can get it the least expensive. Has the pattern been out long?? I would do the same as you and use up Christmas fabrics for the snowflake sew along. The fabrics suggested were pretty- but not necessarily my taste. If I did not have Christmas projects lined up already, I would probably give that a try. You are getting the rush on for fall fabrics- apple fabrics! We both love fall weather, perhaps working with fabrics like that will make you feel cooler...Its worth a shot, right? Ha ha ha
Got 3 more rows done on the baby afghan while the oil was changed in the car. Off to DD’s to have birthday cake for DGD#1 who turns 7 today. BBL I hope Ginny

I just heard that we have 21 new cases here and, of course our population is very small too. I'm not surprised to see an increase since I've seen with my own eyes that people here are not taking proper precautions.
CJ, I haven't been to those sites yet but will go when I'm done here but your plan for your fabrics sounds really great to me.
Ginny, it's great that you got 3 more rows done. It will be completed in no time and maybe just in time for baby's arrival. He will be nice and warm with that blanket
I set aside the gingham for last evening and started on the which way filet blanket. I'm terrible with videos and did have a hard time getting what he was showing but I finally got it and it's really easy and would be easier if I didn't keep making stupid mistakes.
Gotta get back to my food that are on cooking

I did hear from Senator Barasso's office but it was just an email saying she tried to call but phone was disconnected. Either she dialed wrong or I made a typo because the first number she mentioned is close to my number and the other was one from years ago. I don't know why these people can't just say in email that they'll look into it for me. whine, whine, whine....that's me.
