Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you hear back from that office today and they can get things fixed for you. I went out grocery shopping this morning, first time in 3 weeks. I did find most of what I was looking for and was happy to get some canned green beans and some rhubarb. I bought some strawberries too, so I'll stew some of the rhubarb and the strawberries together to make a sauce. But it sure is exhausting to go shopping now, and the heat and humidity doesn't help. I have no problem wearing a mask, because I do think it helps stop the spread of the virus, but it sure is difficult to breathe through it. I'm pretty well stocked up now and don't need to go back for 3 weeks. After that I may switch to every other week through the summer. I also put some gas in my car, the first time since March I was glad to get that done. And I dropped some letters in the box at the post office. I'm now relaxing from my morning "ordeal" I'm hoping to get back to the apple quilt in the next few days, since I want to finish that up. I also received an email with the new weekly quilt block from the Silver Linings mystery quilt, so I hope to get that done this week too. Hope you all get some crafting done. Take care!

I know CJ- the whole process of shopping has changed. Now its mandatory that we bag our own groceries, something I always helped with but appreciated the cashiers expertise. Then you find the folks ahead of line - who seem to take an eternity bagging their groceries- I try to think ahead a little bit so that the process does not annoy others. (Who knows if I succeed or not!). Here we have one way aisles- most of the time I go with the flow and pay attention to how they want traffic directed. Its a whole lot more work now. Anyway, CJ, I am glad you are done for at least 2 weeks...and perhaps the next time you go it will be cooler. Like you, I have errands to run tomorrow and will attempt to gang them up so I don’t have to go out much. I wonder what color your mystery quilt color will be next month? Its just around the corner. Glad you got some rhubarb- that is something you do annually - and its a nice treat for you.
I rescued some rhubarb from the deer about a month ago, and put it in the garden (where its much harder for them to get to). It seems to be doing well enough and I will be able to pick some next year. This year I needed to give it a chance to establish in the new location.
I painted the ceiling in Dd#2’s bedroom.- and sometime this week will work on stain block painting the walls to cover the deep purple color. She seemed shocked that I would paint in there- gosh she is married almost a year and ;is moving into her own house this weekend.
So hot here. Time to take a break and watch the news. Ginny

Hi Everyone. It's been a busy day. This morning I crocheted and then dh got up and we visited for awhile then I started cooking. I know this sounds like a strange combo but I made garlic/cayenne honey glazed carrots, some very chunky apple sauce and had put ingredients for spaghetti sauce to simmer for calzones. It had to cook awhile because I wanted it to be more flavorful. Then I made pizza dough and cut up all the ingredients for the calzone filling. After the sauce was cooled I made all those little pizzas and folded them over to make calzones and they are now in the oven. In between I did a lot of cleaning up of the kitchen and of course It's a mess again but I did clean up the counter top where I constructed the calzones and the rest will have to sit until tomorrow. I'm just too tired now. Oh and in between I made dh some hamburgers because the calzones are for him for tomorrow or during the night tonight. He's a worse night owl than I am. Now I'm going to sit and crochet. Blanket is almost done then the edging.
CJ, I'm glad you got your shopping done for another three weeks. I agree completely...now shopping is an exhausting, stressful endeavor.
I never did talk to the woman at the senator's office. I did run down to the mailbox though too and no letters about the stimulus check.
Ginny, what is stain block...is it like paint and designed to hide things like purple paint. I would have needed a lot of that if I had bought the one house in Indiana (or maybe KY) it definitely had interesting colors.
I haven't looked at my rhubarb again in awhile. I did get some a few weeks ago but didn't have strawberries to go with it so just used rhubarb and made sauce. Used it on my oatmeal.Neighbor said if she had an abundance of rhubarb she'd give me a call to come and get some but I haven't heard from her nor do I expect to. The other neighbor hasn't brought any over. He usually does. Mine doesn't produce much in the way of edible stalks. There's only two plants and they aren't mulitplying like people told me they would. They haven't multiplied at all.

Good morning- Ruth it seems rather soon to hear anything about a stimulus check, unless the Senators office indicated that the check was in the mail. When I electronically requested mine I did get two mailings about it- but both were after the check was electronically deposited into the bank. I know the one mailing was sort of a reminder to check my bank account to assure that the funds were deposited. Wow you spent a lot of time cooking yesterday- and you bet it probably made quite a mess in the kitchen. But all that food sounds wonderful- glad Dh appreciates all your hard work. Hope that your house did not heat up too much from all the cooking either. But then you might not be experiencing hot summer temperatures. Guess you are working on that 4 way granny type afghan (something filet- and I cannot remember the name). Its so pretty....and I am sure its turning out well.
I finished the rows of the baby afghan last night and am starting the border. I forgot I had modified the border when I made this afghan previously, I had just felt that the original border left holes too large for a babies fingers. So I shortened the loops and it still looks fine. Hope that tonight I can pretty much finish it. On a hot day like this I doubt I will walk after dinner, so I can crochet.
Stain block paint does just that- covers difficult colors or stains. Water stains, markers etc....will bleed through paint. And strong colors can take 3 or 4 coats to cover. I hope to paint this room a pale creamy yellow- which would be next to impossible to cover the medium purple present color.
Running a bunch of errands this morning. Another hot day ahead. BBL Ginny

good morning crafters. Cj I have a question on the jar quilt/wall hanging.I know you made the jars to look like they are on a shelf.
did you make the jars with the back ground looking like there is a wall? did you make the back ground the way they said to and us like wood or stone fabric for the background.
I am wondering it I make wood or stone around the jar to look like a wall will it be to much? maybe use sashing in between to look like wood or stone.
I would need to get more brick or stone fabric .I do have some gray barn wood fabric I could use.
The pattern is msqc canning jar pattern. I use the I spy jar pattern. they look like ginger jars/oreintal jars.
this will be a small wall hanging.. my hanger is not as wide as the quilt in the book is.
yesterday the basement got in order. now today will be the upstairs.
have a good day today. smile today even if it is just for you. Phyl

Hello Crafters Phyl - I used solid black fabric for the background of my jars, since I wanted them to pop out and they do. The other choice I was looking at was white for the background but it made the jars fade out. I only used the wood look fabric for sashing between each row and as a border around the outside of the whole quilt top - so my jars look like they are sitting in a wood cabinet painted black inside. Good luck with making your wall hanging - maybe one day I'll make a few with the jars I have left over. Ginny - I hope that paint stain block covers the dark purple paint well. Hope you got all your errands done. It's hot here too! Regarding grocery shopping I actually love the self-checkout lines. The introvert (and germophobe) in me loves that I'm the only one handling my groceries and I don't have to talk to anyone either But my orders have been so large since I'm only shopping every 3-4 weeks I have had to use the regular checkout lines. They still bag the groceries here, I wish they would make us do it since I love to bag mine according to type (cold/hot, dry/canned, other) and then it's easier for me to unpack at home. Maybe if I get back to every 2 weeks shopping I can start using self-checkout again. Ruth - You were very busy with all that cooking, I'm sure everything will taste great and be enjoyed. Hope you hear something soon on the stimulus check. I've been reading there might be another stimulus so I hope things gets worked out for you before that, if it happens. Sue and Meg - Hope you are crafting and doing well. I had an email today from Pat Sloan (she's a popular quilter) and she fell recently and broke both of her wrists! I felt so bad for her, not only because of how awful that is when you can't do anything for yourself, but she is so busy with so many quilting projects and it's really like her life - so I know how difficult this must be for her. She has a short video on YouTube in case you want to see what's going on and to see her poor wrapped up wrists: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcDLBB6_rvI&feature=youtu.beI cooked my rhubarb and strawberries today and made a sauce. I have a lot of it and thought about freezing it, but I'm not sure how it would be later. I'll just eat it over the next few days. I like it with vanilla yogurt. It's hot here today. We had some rain yesterday, but the storms went around where I live. I'm glad I can stay in today, except to get the mail. Do any of you have lots of people putting off fireworks at night right now? It's been going on here for many nights and I'm sure it will continue until after July 4th, but I just wondered if it was happening other places too. I picked out fabrics for the Silver Linings block and I'll press them and cut them soon. And I hope to get the apple quilt top finished. Ginny - there are still a few colors left for the Rainbow Monthly quilt - yellow, red, purple, dark blue and I think there is a neutral month in November and then December is putting them together. Take care everyone!

Good question for CJ- and I am sure she has this all figured out and has a good response. I wonder how others did it too...
Felt good- got some errands done today and then got to HL and CTS with my friend. Very high percentage of folks with masks on- as a matter of fact I saw none without them. I used up all my gift card- finally- and found some pretty fabric for the second border for the falling charms quilt. A good trip for sure. Tomorrow I am heading up to the quilt shop with pastors wife- they are holding 2 Christmas quilt kits, which I will make for each DD. THen I need to stop spending.....and start working on all the projects that I have here. Its so hot here, and the heat is really bothering me. I never have to use the inhaler, and even with air-conditioning I am bothered a bit
Hope to sit down later on and work on the baby afghan a bit more. Ginny

CJ- I had not refreshed the page, just saw you posted. Poor Pat Sloan- she is popular and seems like a nice person. She is prolific with her designs- that is for sure. I hear ya, its easier to pack your own groceries, and like you I like knowing what is in each bag. Sometimes if it was a large trip to the store I might not unpack a bag of non perishables for an hour or so.....knowing that the food would not go bad. But when others Pack it it’s a guessing game for sure.
Have not heard much about fireworks here, they say some places will still have them. I would like to go- one town has a nice set up where you can stay in your car, good for distancing and also staying bug free. And so far, no problem with folks setting them off.
Gonna take out the trash and start playing with that stain block paint- gotta trim the room out. G

I don't hear any fireworks here and never do on the 4th of July either but at our events center they usually have what they call a festival on the 4th and fireworks at 10pm. They aren't going to have the festival this year but they will have the fireworks but are not allowing people to park in thier lot. I don't know how that's going to work. People will be parked in all kinds of places where they shouldn't be. We can sort of see them from our front yard but only the higher ones. We used to go to the hospital's roof spaces but haven'[t in years.
Sorry to hear about Pat Sloan. As you said, she needs her wrists for what she does no only for taking care of herself.
Ginny, congrats on getting the rows done on the baby afgan. I do remember that you revised the edging.
It was fairly hot here today but tomorrow will be hotter.
Got a weird email from Meg's email address..spam.

Ruth, that sure does sound like chaos- if the parking lot will be closed but they are still planning on hosting fireworks. Perhaps they have some sort of arrangement for parking, but distributing parking all over seems much harder to control. Its great that you and Dh can just stay home and watch the fireworks with higher elevation. We used to be able to do that, but the trees have grown up and now we see very little. When we first moved here it was neat to walk to my neighbors house- right across the street (slightly higher in elevation) and see the show. At any rate, for you it sounds like staying home and watching what you can from the front lawn it a great idea. Plus it keeps you safe and away from the crazies out there. So sad, it seems as though the crazies are multiplying.... I am going to avoid Meg’s email.....Gotta see if I can find her physical address and see if she is ok.
Got 3/4 of the border done on the baby afghan. Its a pretty pattern- but I will be glad to have it done. Bet Dd will be glad to get to meet her little son too!!
Trying to inspire myself to go to the store-In this heat, its hard to inspire myself to do anything. I started edging out the bedroom. This room is going to look awful before it looks better.
Ok I have babbled enough for one morning G

Hello Crafters Thanks for answering my questions about fireworks in your area. I'd just read some strange comments on the Internet about it being a coordinated effort across the country to put them off right now. It might depend on the area though, like living outside a big city like I do, or they may just be be made up Internet rumors I made some coleslaw today to have with some pork barbecue. That's a nice summer meal. I haven't gotten back to my quilts, it's been pretty hot in the house. Hopefully I can get back to them soon. Hope all of you are doing some crafting. Take care!

Good afternoon everyone. Ginny, I know your dd will be happy to have the baby born and in her arms. Then, though, comes the hard part...all the nightime feedings and trying to get rest between all the other work involved in taking care of everything else. Then there's all the changing of hormone levels. I know you're going to help though.
I got my border done and added another row to it because two rows just didn't look right. I looked at mine that is the same pattern as you just used for your last two baby blankets and was tempted to pick it up and work on it but since I have several others in mind to try I might do them first. In fact I was thinking that since the next few days are going to be hot I might work on some smaller things for now
I do have Meg's physical address if you can't find yours. I'll email it to you if you need it.I'd call her but that might be too much of an imposition and I might not be able to hear anyway.

CJ, we must have been typing at the same time. I heard last night that the fireworks, esp in the DC and NYC areas are a planned thing to call attention to their "cause".We haven't had any here but I do lives in the boonies.

Yeah I have heard that they are shooting off fireworks in the cities- but innocent folks are getting hurt in the process. Sorry these looters and rioters are nuts.
Yes Ruth, I figure I will be helping Dd out a lot after the baby is born. DSIL should be returning to work soon- so she will need the assistance. Give that baby afghan a try- it works up pretty quickly and is so pretty. Glad you got the borders done on your afghan.
CJ- coleslaw on port barbecue is so very good!! Hope you saved some for me!
Got to the quilt shop- they did not change much at all....the main change I could see was that the staff wore masks. They did nothing to streamline the register area- which is usually a huge bottleneck. I picked up the Christmas quilt kits. And I finished the baby afghan.
Have a good night all Ginny
