Hello, new to this board. I'm from Philly. Prior to covid, I used to get some Freshdirect delivery and go to TJs, local specialty stores and farmers markets. Now it's mostly Freshdirect and some Amazon Fresh, Wholefoods delivery. I wipe everything down when it comes to my apt. in an area set aside for them. Vegs/fruits get put immediately into colanders and get washed. I wash my hands a few times during this process depending on what I have touched. I've read the updated research articles on the minimal risk, but like previous poster said, it's not "no risk". I'm not taking any chances, given how new this virus is and how information/data changes on a weekly basis. I just read this www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/how-the-world-missed-covid-19-s-silent-spread/ar-BB1624sK?li=BBnb4R7So, even the experts have their own internal politics and ego.

During March and April I used Instacart for grocery deliveries, once a week. Back then I sanitized everything. In May I started Instacart curbside, stopped sanitizing everything. In June I started grocery shopping on my own. Everyone wears masks, I feel relatively comfortable. I live in WNY. I still try to limit my shopping to once a week.
I also went back to work in May, that probably helped me feel more comfortable. I’m a cashier at a large dealership, wear a mask, am behind plexiglass. Over 95% of the customers wear masks and surprisingly wear them correctly.
I’m not a mall shopper, so the fact that they are still closed doesn’t bother me. I seldom buy clothes anymore, I have a decent amount and only need them for work. At home I wear yoga pants and t-shirts. Most other items I buy through Amazon. I open the packages, then wash my hands. I do wash my hands a lot, can stand sanitizers.

Healthy joy I don’t really clothes shop anymore either. I buy a few things on ASOS but that’s about it. I just closet shop if I really want to break out something different from the usual. During the shutdown I really only wear black shorts and tshirts and sneakers. If it’s really hot on occasion I wear my bathing suit only since I’m not leaving the house and this way I can jump in the pool as needed to cool off.

Finreporter- closet shopping is one of the positive things during stay-at-home. I also did a lot of purging. I have bags of clothing waiting for donation sites to open up.

Our shopping habits here have changed a lot since the arrival of Covid.
When Covid arrived we started going to the store once every two weeks instead of almost daily and that scared the heck out of us because of getting Covid. We usually go once a week now and realize what a waste of our time to go to the store almost daily before Covid. We do wear a mask and there are some in our Meijers where we shop who do not wear a mask so we avoid them as best we can.
We shop senior hours and love it. A couple times we went during regular hours and hated it because store was not stocked with items we wanted, people are not as considerate and not as many wearing masks, just a different group of shoppers.
We are saving a lot of money shopping this Covid way. I have a list, mask on, get my groceries I need, and leave as before I used to look around at food, clothes, shoes, just to 'buy stuff' we didn't need. We like to live frugal!
We don't waste as much food as we eat up what's in the refrigerator and then go shopping, used to just keep buying and adding to what we had.
We don't go to the number of stores we used to, to look and buy, usually only one or two at the most a week.
This 'new normal' way of shopping has been a win, win for us! 🤗

nov21987, welcome! Thank you for sharing the article. It is more evidence how little the medical community knew about the virus. Mistakes have been made across the globe by many experts. Hopefully, we will learn enough, soon enough, to find a cure.

We used online ordering and curbside pickup for both groceries and medicine extensively from mid-March until early this month, when we finally ventured out as Louisiana entered Phase 2. Now, new CV cases and deaths are mounting (1014 more today), so we are preparing to go back to curbside pickup as our primary way of shopping. Like others have said, this has greatly decreased the amount we spend as there is no impulse buying with curbside. Even the few times we have gone into stores, we hurriedly get what's on the list and get the h*ll out of the store. Fewer and fewer people are wearing masks or paying attention to keeping 6 ft. apart while shopping. We have never sanitized the groceries, but are careful to use sanitizer immediately after leaving the store and wash hands as soon as groceries are unpacked.
We have resorted to shopping online for some hard-to-find items and even had our DD3 in MI on the lookout for some items. She shipped me some yeast, which she was able to find, but was not available here.

I'm doing what you're doing in terms of wipe down of everything that comes into the home. But I've been going shopping in person since the get go. Maybe that's stupid, but I've been very diligent with mask, gloves, and my husband drives and waits in the car and puts sanitizer in my hands when I dispose of the gloves afterward. I have two friend back east, one of which has only received deliveries and no fresh produce, and the other orders and picks up contactless - they put everything in the trunk and he drives off. I've bought more from Amazon than I care to, but honestly? Whenever I try to buy something directly from the company/maker or a smaller outfit, their websites are so horrible that I end up frustrated and buy from Amazon instead. Right now there is a small delivery sitting on my front steps because the Fedex driver did not wear gloves so I will let it sit out there for another hour, then bring it in, open it, sanitize the contents and wash hands, and toss box.
Our post-grocery shopping takes at least an hour or more to put away because I have to wipe down everything, that's the biggest PITA.
I haven't bought clothes lately but may order a few things soon.

surfgirl, dh does our shopping and he's gone in person as well. He thought about doing curbside pick up, or delivery, but didn't hear good things about it in our area. He goes every two weeks, instead of every week as he had in the past. We do wipe down everything that comes into the house. The stuff that stays outside in the garage we don't wipe down. He makes sure to go to the store when he knows I'll be around to help him put everything away.

Ugh... I almost caused a scene today at the grocery store.
This stupid woman had her mask on under her chin. 🤬
I did my best to avoid her, when I see someone without a mask I either turn around or cut down another isle so I dont walk next to them. I kept seeing her around every corner. I felt angrier and angrier each time, even more than if she didn't have one on at all.
I literally felt myself begin to shake, I had to get out of the store.
What an ignorant ass. If you're not going to wear it, take the frigging thing off, hanging it under your chin is assinine.

Sorry that happened to you, J. Some people are so selfish and ignorant. Perhaps next time you can talk to a manager to complain. Tell them you can not shop here if they don't require customers to wear masks and enforce the rule.
I don't know the law in your area, in NYC it is the law. So I would tell a manager. I probably would not confront anyone unless they were trying to talk to me.
Again, sorry you had to experience that. These times are stressful enough without idiotic people unnecessarily adding to the stress.

Last week I was walking down an aisle at Sam's Club and there was a woman who was talking to a man in a scooter. The man had a mask and gloves on. Apparently they knew each other. She pulled out her cell phone and proceeded to scroll for pictures to show him. Before she did this she yanked her mask down over her chin, laughing and talking loudly. I turned to her and said "Ma'am, please put your mask back on." She pulled it up and said "Oh I only took it down for a second!" to which I replied "And that's how it happens."
In another store I saw four employees working with their masks on but their noses exposed. Putting items on shelves, etc. I pulled a Karen and went to the customer service desk and the person there looked upset and said "Where are they?!" I pointed two out that were right in that department and told her about the two other ones. I checked back later and they were all wearing their masks properly.
So effin' sick of the stupidity and selfishness. Big gatherings here for the Fourth of July. FB friends posting photos of their parties, obviously no attempt whatsoever at social distancing. Some of these people were bemoaning the lack of precautions people were taking just a few short weeks ago. Some are in states where the cases are steadily rising. One of them actually said to me "you don't understand---I am tired of this!" Boo-hoo.
Oh, BTW, news flash---sharing common DNA with people doesn't prevent you from getting the virus from them, nor is it inactivated if it inhabits someone who is married to a relative of yours. The virus doesn't care that you really really love Grandma, or your sister, brother, parents, or grandkids.
