Day 2 – Pick Two Reasonable Diets
Beck wants you to pick two diets that you would be willing to follow, one is the one you’ll follow and the other is a back-up in case the first one doesn’t work out. These are her guidelines for a “doable diet:”
Diet should be healthy.
Choose a diet that includes food you like and can easily prepare.
Choose a diet that’s flexible.
Choose a diet that allows you to budget for indulgences.
Share your diet choices with us and why you made the choices.

My first choice is WW's Green plan. It's as close to Points Plus as I can get. My second choice is calorie counting on My Fitness Pal. I do both of them now. I started the calorie counting when Fresh Step? came out. Couldn't handle not counting all of my food so I went to calorie counting. I've been doing a WW plan (or calorie counting) since June 2006.

My first choice is Points Plus because it works for me. My back up would be calorie counting, but I think PP works better for me.
Judy, we've talked about this before, but if you love PP, why don't you just go online and search for 2014 PP books, they're all over the place!

surfgirl, To be honest I've moved on and I'm doing fine on Green and calorie counting. I did Value Diary for awhile on their PP plan but for some reason I stopped and did calorie counting instead until the new plans came out in November of last year.

Pick Two Reasonable Diets *Diet should be healthy. *Choose a diet that includes food you like and can easily prepare. *Choose a diet that’s flexible. *Choose a diet that allows you to budget for indulgences. Share your diet choices with us and why you made the choices. Downloaded I Track Bites (ITB) and have used it for over a month. 4 free versions and 2 to pay for
* Carb Conscious/Points Plus - I am trying it this past week to see if I prefer it to the other version I used for a month. It has a food list and fruit and veg are "free" on this program. I switched due to not eating fruits as often and feeling deprived toward the end of the month as more fruit was coming in to the kitchen...didn't have points for fruit. That said, I do find I "pay more" for things like pasta, wine and a few other things * Conquer Cravings/Momentum and earlier WW plan - I liked this as it was basic calorie/fat/fiber based and I am familiar with it having lost in 1998/9 on this one. I know how it works BUT, as mentioned above, found weighing and measuring fruits less than fun. I would count out 21 cherries and think...what if I had 22?

I only count calories. Worked for me for years.

Two plans that work good for me.
My first choice is a combination of WW points and the Mayo Clinic Diet. I use WW for the points but Mayo Clinic for the Six Food Groups and recommended amounts. This allows me to track twice a day. The reason I only use points for the WW Plan is because I can eat junk all day as long as I don't go over my points, this has been a problem for me in the past, I just cannot have sugar and processed foods, I feel best when eating whole foods. In the 1980's I became ill, took a year off from teaching, went to Mayo Clinic six times and finally got diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Still ill I went to an environmental allergy clinic for two weeks and was diagnosed with allery to everything but sweet potatoes! Came home giving myself shots and told my husband I'm not doing this for the rest of my life, found a book on low blood sugar at the library. Scheduled an appointment with a new doctor asking for a low blood sugar diet. Eight weeks after being on a low blood sugar diet prescribed by the doctor, I was the healthiest I'd ever been. That doctor still gives that diet out to his patients! As long as I omit sugar and processed food I feel really good.
My second choice would be the Mayo Clinic Diet which is a great diet for me, I love it as I use only the Five Food Groups daily and recommended amounts. These are the groups I use and track daily: * Protein/Dairy 3 Sevings Daily * Bread/Cereal 4 Servings Daily * Fruit 5 Servings of Fruit /Vegetable Daily or more. * Vegetable * Fats 3 Servings Daily * Sweets 75 Calories a Day. I don't use this group often because of LBS explained above.
I can follow just WW using the Green Plan, do just Mayo Clinic or the combination above. I also have used The Low Blood Sugar Handbook by Edward and Patricia Krimmel diet. My goal during this review is to get my blood sugars evened out as in the 1980's by eating healthy, I Can And Will Do This!!! 😀

I am using WW Blue. I enjoy the flexibility. At first it gave me too much leeway so I switched to green. Once I got my portions for zero-point foods under control, they were no longer a problem to control. For the same reason, I'm thinking of switching to Purple. My food choices have become consistent for the most part so I will have less measuring to do although my portion sizes will remain the same. With less daily SP's I will have less points the salty treats and wine.
My second choice is MFP. Most of my food choices are already there and even some of my restaurant selections. I have been tracking my weight there for years so it's an option if for any reason WW tracking no longer works for me.

I only count calories. Worked for me for years. Did you lose your weight on WW or counting calories? And do you mean you only count calories for maintaining? If so, when you switched from WW points to calories, did you see any fluctuation up or down? Just wondering since WW makes a huge deal about the combo of what you're eating (ie: their plans) vs. calories, which can be an amount from foods that aren't helping you lose weight.

I like MFP for calorie tracking. I also like Esselstyn, which has recipes for reducing heart disease.
I haven’t been an every day daily tracker this year, but on this round, I am committed to it.

surfgirl, I also count calories along with following the Green plan. I did just calorie counting for awhile during Free Style, but I still somewhat follow the Good Health Guidelines that WW had years ago so they inform my food choices. Me personally if I had just done calorie counting I would have searched on the web for guidance in what to eat and how much of each food group.

surfgirl, I haven't done WW proper since the early 2000s. I started tracking on paper long before I did Beck, so, yeah I lost and am maintaining by calorie counting.

I had no idea - or maybe I forgot?! - that you didn't even lose on WW...It's good to know that good old calorie counting works good too. It certainly feels easier to do, is it? I mean I'd think so because you're not figuring out points, it's just calories.
