So.. I'm noticing wearing a mask gives me a sore throat, a headache and dries out my lips and cheeks. Oh and makes my ears sore. I wear both the disposable and cotton, get the same with either one. Sigh
Any hints or tips out there?

No help, I just pop a sugar free life saver when my mouth gets too dry. I used to wear a mask when I worked in health care because I couldn’t get a flu shot. I guess I just got used to wearing one again.

No tips here either. I get a headache with mine and my glasses fog up which is no big deal but the headache usually lasts awhile.

Jennifer , i googled for some articles on tips for making masks more comfortable and the main things i found were: moisturize your face if it's dry before putting on the mask on etsy (and probably amazon too) they sell headbands that have buttons on the side and your mask ear straps can go over the buttons. that way it won't bother your ears. another tip for avoiding the straps rubbing and irritating behind your ears is to use a paper clip to hook the ear straps onto and the paper clip is behind your head (like where a low ponytail would go). this helps keep the straps away from behind your ears. i would also look into masks that tie behind your head rather than go around your ears. consider getting cotton ones made out of the same material they use for sheets (keeps the face cooler). make sure mask is snug but not tight.

Some others ideas are:
Wash cotton masks a couple times before wearing because fabric has a sizing on it. Fabric used to have a sizing that had formeldyh in it as well as other chemicals.
If you wear a baseball hat attach a button on each side to put mask loops around.

No baseball cap at the salon lol. oxox I have worn them with out washing, thank you, I will be sure to wash first..I have quite a few cotton now since friends are making them and giving them to me. I bought a box of 50 disposable from Amazon, these bother me more than the cotton ones. Don't mean to be a whiner, our medical angels have been wearing them long before the pandemic. I didn't expect the side effects

JenniferAlso, be careful what you wash them with, mild soap. Sounds like you're really sensitive to something in them! Good luck, hope you find a cure!🤗

Additionally: don't use fabric softener (in the wash or dryer) because that leaves a film on them that can make it harder to breathe and might cause irritation. I picked up some baby laundry soap for masks since it doesn't have dye or fragrance and things like that.

Thank you!! In general I don't have sensitive skin so I didnt anticipate any issues. I will most certainly get a mild detergent what a great idea.
I have a break from wearing one today, I'm staying home.
It will be a quiet day today and I'm ok with it at the moment. Our fireworks are canceled and we begged off of going to the party we were invited to.

Reminding me how lucky I am that I only have to mask up for short periods: grocery shopping and take out food pickup. Thanks to our front line workers who have to wear them for many hours at a time.

A long day at the salon was bad enough, I have a break today, I can't imagine having to wear one all day 5 days a week.
