So.. I'm noticing wearing a mask gives me a sore throat, a headache and dries out my lips and cheeks. Oh and makes my ears sore. I wear both the disposable and cotton, get the same with either one. Sigh
No help, I just pop a sugar free life saver when my mouth gets too dry. I used to wear a mask when I worked in health care because I couldn’t get a flu shot. I guess I just got used to wearing one again.
Jennifer , i googled for some articles on tips for making masks more comfortable and the main things i found were:
moisturize your face if it's dry before putting on the mask
on etsy (and probably amazon too) they sell headbands that have buttons on the side and your mask ear straps can go over the buttons. that way it won't bother your ears.
another tip for avoiding the straps rubbing and irritating behind your ears is to use a paper clip to hook the ear straps onto and the paper clip is behind your head (like where a low ponytail would go). this helps keep the straps away from behind your ears.
i would also look into masks that tie behind your head rather than go around your ears.
consider getting cotton ones made out of the same material they use for sheets (keeps the face cooler).
Additionally: don't use fabric softener (in the wash or dryer) because that leaves a film on them that can make it harder to breathe and might cause irritation. I picked up some baby laundry soap for masks since it doesn't have dye or fragrance and things like that.
