CJ, I love those sites you posted for Phyl. IN looking at the one it reminded me of all the fabric I have that has those same candy canes on it.There are just so many things I want to make with crocheting and now I'm kinda inspired to sew also and try a quilted mat for under my small Christmas tree. I've been going to do that for a few years now and still haven't got to it. I don't think I even put out my little tree last year. And seeing your quilt sites also reminds me of the one that my older friend made and gifted to me years back. She used a panel and did all hand quilting. It's about half the size of my dining room table and I use it to set my nativity set on each year (which I didn't put that out last year either.) I had hoped to be in Indiana this coming Christmas but dh says he feels that the earliest we should go is next spring.

Well I got the doll all done except for putting the button on the back of the dress. She looks pretty cute but I'm kind of disappointed that, although I thought I had her stuffed firmly and her head didn't move, now that I've put on her hair and all her head is a little wobbly. So project done!! I didn't work on her at all yesterday. Mostly wasted a lot of time but then later I started making a c2c square with a letter in it to practice doing graphs. It will eventually become a blanket...it has one of the grandchildren's initial on it.
Ginny, have a good time holding that new grandson. There's nothing like cuddling a newborn. Have the other children seen him yet. I'm wondering how the 2 year old is dealing with a new baby.

Rene- check out www.sewingmastery.com- I HOPE they have your machine on there. Its full of tutorials, broken into small segments on how to use many machines. I found my Husqvarna directions there, they also have some Janomes, and Brother too. Hope you can find yours!! That site was actually suggested by the dealer who sold me my new machine. I made a boatload of mistakes with my new machine and one night had to stop sewing cause I was making too many mistakes and forgetting how to adjust the machine for what I was doing. Its such a steep learning curve for sure. I look forward to hearing that your new brother is your friend and you are super comfortable getting it to do exactly what you want! CJ- thanks for posting the directions for the next block on the jelly snowflake quilt. These blocks seem so simple- and would do a great job showcasing a stunning fabric. Cream with gold holly leaves sounds so very pretty. Hey Phyl- don’t beat yourself up! First of all, some of the fabric at Hobby Lobby is pretty nice and decent quality. I have done the same exact thing, thinking I had to get quilt shop fabric and found something really nice at Hobby Lobby. When I get back to the falling charms quilt, the blocks themselves are all quilt shop quality but my binding, borders and backing are from HL- and decent quality also. As far as Mary Jo goes,- well we all mess up sometimes. If she is truly as kind as she seems she will forgive your slip of the tongue.... Thanks for the congrats on the new grandson. I have seen several pictures of him and he is adorable . Dd seems to be doing well- I think she will be released with him tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, she cannot have visitors (Covid). So I will get to see him over the weekend. Ended up not working on the quilt at all...but had a much needed and productive conversation with Ds about some family dynamics,He has a very good head on his shoulders....glad to spend the time with him. Quilting can wait till tomorrow when the weather is supposed to stink anyway. Time to get some sleep I guess. Have a good night all Ginny

Crud, I forgot to refresh the page and found Ruth had checked in! I won’t see the little fellow until probably Saturday. Going to give Dd a day to get home and have the baby meet his older siblings. Good to hear that the doll is done- and I am sure its just fine- you are a perfectionist. Love the idea of a c2c afghan with an initial on it for a grandchild. Such a thoughtful idea.... Hey, spending the additional time where you are for winter gives you time to break out that sewing machine and try a small quilted tree skirt. It might provide a nice diversion from crocheting, You have lots of us here to cheer you on if you give it a try! If not we love hearing about your adventures in crocheting too.

Rene, I just checked out sewing mastery.com and it appears as though she has not included videos for your brother machine (look on the “complete list” section). But perhaps there are some similarities to your machine with the ones she has made videos of. Just a thought. Happy sewing. G

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad you got the doll done, I'm sure it's really cute and will be loved. Ginny - I'm glad to hear that your DD and DGS are doing well. I'm sure you can't wait to see him this weekend. Rene - I hope you can find some information on your new machine. Phyl, Meg and Sue - Hope you are all well. It doesn't seem as humid here today, but still hot. At least we missed most of the storms that were around this week. I finished the second set of blocks for the Jelly Snowflake quilt in my Christmas fabrics today. Making the flying geese units too a bit of time, but after that the 8 blocks went together quickly. I'm hoping to get the other 8 blocks in the Pink/Green/White fabrics done this weekend. The Friday tutorial from MSQC has a pretty quilt and it looks really easy to make. I could even see this one done in a smaller size. I think the fabrics she choose really set this quilt off. Here's a link to the video if you want to watch it: www.missouriquiltco.com/msqc/tutorial/tile-style?utm_campaign=newsletter_07102020_qt_347&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=msqc&utm_content=image1&utm_term=qt_347Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

CJ, you have really been keeping busy on your quilting lately. I love the video. As you said it looks very easy. Looks can be deceiving but I really do think that this one would not be hard at all. All quilting is very time consuming but I bet those rolls of already cut strips and the other packets they have make it easier. Somehow, though, that seems like cheating . I worked on Sid some last night and have worked on him this morning. I have his body and head done and now am doing the tail. I have 2 legs, two arms, two eyes, the nose, and the patch that goes on his front to do and then comes the sewing it all together. At least I don'thave to embroider facial features which is even harder for me than sewing parts together. I checked with ddil and she said that, although the little one is two, he doesn't put things in his mouth so she feels that it's very safe for me to use safety eyes. Also he will be turning 3 about the time I send Sid to his "big" brother who will be turning 7 at the same time...just two weeks earlier. It's very hot here today. Probably will hit 100 again. Luckily humidity is about 4 or 5%. yes four or five. Still feels hot to me so I'm staying downstairs as much as possible since it's cooler there. Ginny, give that wonderful new baby a little gentle hug for me when you get to hug him.

Good evening- I wonder how Rene has made out with finding videos for her new machine. I hope she was able to figure out what she wants and that her new machine works great for her!!
CJ- I had already checked out the MSQ video of the week and thought the same thing as you- what an adorable quilt and it does not look too tough at all. Now I have to wait for a jelly roll in a fabric set that I like- and then get busy making it. Agree, the fabric selection is critical- and really makes the quilt so pretty. Good for you getting the jelly snowflake square done. Flying geese are fun, do you have a special template that you use to make them? I know there are several out there (I have one I use and love it). Hope you can get the other 8 blocks done over the weekend....
Ruth-the joy of using jelly rolls or charm packs is all the fabrics match and work well together. Ok I get it, it seems like cheating but then its still up to the quilter to get the fabrics used in the order they want and to assemble the quilt. Much is still left to the eye of the quilter. Congrats on getting Sid almost done. That is awesome news and I now you have wanted to get Sid off your back and done. I agree with DDIL that by the time the little fellow is 3, he will not be putting stuff in his mouth and those safety eyes should be perfect. 100 degrees sure sounds hot. Even with low humidity, its hot.
Got to see DD and DGS#2 for a minute. DSIL had to drive to the hospital to pick them up- I met them in town and watched the 3 kids while DSIL went into the lobby only to get them. The little fellow is so cute. I am taking dinner over to them tomorrow night- hope to get to hold him. If not there will be other times. Think today it was important for the family to reunite - the kids missed DD so much.
We have that tropical depression here. Its been rainy most of the afternoon. Hope it does not rain too much tonight. Went to the store today.... and got some paperwork cleaned up. Dh was disorganized with paperwork, so getting through this is a process. I get it done a little at a time.
Have a good night all G

Thankfully, not too much rain from last nights system- and right now it actually looks like a nice day out there. I am trying to motivate myself to get my day started... pretty sure that Dd#2 is coming over to visit for a few hours. Have a good day all Ginny

Still doing my research, choney2 , lol If anyone is making masks, I found a great little deal on fat quarters that make about 2-3 masks each piece (4-6 if you use a different back side fabric), so you can make 14-18 masks for under $15 (not counting elastic) which is a real bargain. This is the pack I tried, and I'm impressed. After washing, they didn't shrink much(I washed them in hot water because I'd rather it shrink now since masks are washed a lot), the colors held nicely and they're not real heavy - so not too hot. I know you crafty ladies know all about these, but they were new to me lol fat quarters

I went to the site,Rene, but it said they are not available. Must be that a lot of people have discovered that site.I do have a lot of fabric though. Happy mask making. I made a couple masks but I want to try the new ones they have that don't touch the mouth and nose.

Oh sorry -that was just the bundle of patterns that I picked, they have a lot of fat quarter bundles I bought several masks off etsy and have been disappointed - partly my fault, but the sellers always describe them as "well made" or "heavy" and they're polyester/nylon -really hot! And usually really thin.

Oh ok,I know that a lot of people are doing various kinds of needlework now because of "distancing" so lot of yarn is sold out and I know there must be shortages of some fabric too. I have made a couple masks. Nothing to brag about. My dh has copd so can't use a mask that is too heavy or is close to his mouth or he can't breathe well. That's why i want to make the other kind but just can't make myself do that yet.I know that once I make a couple I'll be able to do them ok but sewing new things stresses me out too much.
My crafting today so far has consisted of looking at patterns and youtube videos of patterns. If only I'd spend that time actually making those things instead of looking I'd get much more done. I have hundreds in a file on my computers already.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I feel the same as you about doing new things. The masks I've made for myself have just been very basic - 2 pieces of cotton fabric sewn together with the elastic ear loops. I'd like to try one that has the pattern pieces so it shapes over your nose and chin but I haven't been able to bring myself to try it. Sorry to hear about yarn being sold out, hope they can get more back in stock soon. Ginny - I'm glad you didn't get too much rain and I hope you get to spend time with the new baby this weekend. Rene - Thanks for sharing the link for us - those fabrics sure must be popular to sell out so quickly - or else they only had a few available Phyl, Sue and Meg - Hope you are crafting. It's hot here and will be for the next several days. They said we might break a heat record next week. I finished cutting all the fabrics for my alternate version of the Jelly Snowflake quilt (the one that is pink/green/white) and also drew the lines on the back of the 64!!!! 2 1/2 inch squares. So now I'm ready to start sewing together the 8 blocks. I hope to get that done tomorrow. If any of you have watched the video of making this block at the Fat Quarter Shop I wanted to let you I did not pin all those 64 pieces on like she did and it was a lot quicker just sewing them on. I was looking at videos of quilt things and saw this interesting way to make a Lemoyne Star quilt block and thought I'd share it with you all. I might try one of these with some fat quarters: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsgDUXZ3EWUHope everyone is staying safe and well. Take care and have a great day!
