I'll figure it out eventually lol. On small things like masks, it's not really more than an annoyance to spin the fabric and go back the other way several stitches then spin it again.
Do any of you use a "walking foot" for general sewing instead of the basic foot? I was reading a blog (that I think I saw the link for here) and she said she uses a walking foot almost exclusively except when doing a rolled hem or "in the ditch" foot.

GOOD MORNING, I was practicing on with my walking foot the other day and not having much luck.practice on something you don't care about.
Nita has 7 machines.she said she never had much luck with the walking foot.surprised me when she said that cause she is a wonderful quilter always trying something new.
there are wonderful quilters who love the walking foot . might sometimes depends on the machine.SO FOR BOTH OF US I WOULD SAY PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE.
walking foot is ok for straight sewing. I was trying to follow along on my star points. probably should have put the free motion foot on.
THANK YOU CJ. I thought it was just me. sending in pictures we get to seethe blocks up closer. they are there instead of being on a treasure hunt. Phyl

Ginny, your daughter is so blessed to have you near to be with your grandchildren when your dd and sil have something like that that they need to do
Rene, when I bought my machine I got a walking foot too because at the quilting classes I went to they suggested it. Now I hear from CJ and Ginny that there's a better foot to have. Maybe a free motion foot? I'm not sure I remember correctly. Anyway I've never even taken the walking foot out of it's packaging let alone used it. I'll have to look into seeing what it can do since I spent the money to buy the thing.
Phyl, so she thinks it's something to do with the thyroid? Did she check you for lumps anywhere else? You said Thursday is thyroid tests...is that a scan? I'm sure the blood tests you had today included thyroid function tests.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad you were able to go to your appointment and I hope your test results are good. Rene - Thanks for the links you share, I'll have to check out the Brother Facebook page. I rarely use my walking foot on my machine because I don't do any machine quilting. But I have used it a few times. I've heard some quilters say they leave their walking food on all the time, it probably works for those that do a lot of machine quilting. I just use a regular 1/4 inch food for all my sewing. Ruth - We can never have too much yarn, or too much fabric Ginny - I'm glad you were able to enjoy some of the cooler weather. I hope your DD and her baby are doing well. Sue - Hope you are getting some crocheting done. Meg - Hope you are well if you check in, would love to hear from you. I finished the 8 star blocks for the Jelly Snowflake quilt today and I'm glad to be done with them. I love the look of a flying geese using, just not all the work involved. The last 2 blocks for this look like they are a bit smaller and I hope they are all straight pieces and no more triangles. I also did the block for the Silver Linings quilt, which was ironically 2 flying geese units I'm caught up with this one now and the Jelly Snowflake too. I didn't have time to get the other 2 Lemoyne stars done, but hope to get them finished this week. Take care everyone!

Ruth, there is an open toe free motion foot that is used for free motion quilting. Its a spring loaded foot that does not put any pressure (very very little) on the fabric at all. I only use it for actually quilting the quilt sandwich- the quilt top-batting and backing. I do not use it for anything else. The open toe foot facilitates making designs with your quilting stitches- swirls etc.....You use the open toe foot with the feed dogs of the machine down- so that you direct the fabric to go where you want it stitched.. The walking foot allows the machine to glide over multiple layers of fabrics with greater ease. I use it when I am stitching in the ditch (although there is also a stitch in the ditch foot, not sure if my Huskie has one). Its ok and does do a nice job when you have to go over all those layers of fabric but want some pressure on what you are sewing. Feed dogs are up for the walking foot, so the machine is helping to direct the fabric to be sewn.
Phyl- prayers for good and accurate test results. I am happy to hear that they are taking your concern seriously. Did you get those masks made?
Yes, Rene, I can see how not being able to really tack down the ends of the masks (with all those layers and elastic) can be a challenge. Hope you can find an answer to your problem. I am sure others have had the same issue. I do not use my walking foot for normal sewing and much prefer other feet- to permit zig zag, or the 1/4 seam foot (which I LOVE for quilting). The walking foot I use only when its special attributes are needed....not for normal sewing.
Busy day....got my hair cut again- and visited with Dd and the baby. He is such a good little boy and is getting chunky, as he should be! Ginny

I figured it out! I went through all the basic straight stitches and found the 4 that can do a continuous back stitch (you have to hold the button, and it goes really slow, but it works).

Phyl, well it sounds like they're doing the right things. I'm glad they're taking it seriously. I hope they don't give up until they've actually found out what the problem is. I'm praying that it's something that will go away on it's own or easily cured
Rene, congratulations on discovering what you need to do to get it to backstitch. You are very persistent and it paid off.
I haven't done a single bit of actual crafting today. The only things I've done are reading the posts in the crochet groups. Did a few things around the house though.

A little humorous: The fat quarter bundle I bought is mostly water color patterns. JD (son) has to wear "school appropriate" masks, so no bad language, obscene pics, etc.. The masks I made last night have wine glasses on them. I wonder how long it will take someone to realize they're not balloons lol.

I played around with the embroidery part finally, and it's pretty neat. I did this on a scrap piece to test it. It was great until the last pass that did the outline: the pattern is off just a little bit -not a machine issue. I think I downloaded this pattern for free.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Rene - That looks great - and is just like Murray I love the little heart in the center. Ginny - I bet it felt good to get your haircut and I'm glad you were able to spend time with the new baby Ruth - Sorry you didn't have time for any crafting. Phyl - I hope your test goes well tomorrow Sue and Meg - Hope you are doing some crafting. I finished the Lemoyne Star table runner this morning. I miscalculated my fabric and only had enough for 2 stars total. I used the rest of the fat quarter fabric to put three small borders around the two stars and the final size is 17x30 - a nice small table runner. The stars are really puffy and the fabric doesn't lay flat but I'm guessing that's from all the seams on the back of the quilt blocks. I've heard that you can flatten them out when you quilt it, so I guess I'll see what happens if I ever get to that point - you all know how I don't actually ever make anything into a quilt I'm all caught now and ready for tomorrow's Jelly Snowflake clue - hoping it will be an easy block. The virus numbers are starting to go up in my state after we'd done a good job of getting them flat. I really hate to see that and hope we can get control of them again before they rise too much like is happening in many other states. Hope all of you are staying safe. Take care everyone!
