I am wearing a mask anytime I am at work or out in public, keep my distance when I can and I'm washing my hands, if that's all we had to do why don't I feel safe?
One thing people can do is switch to the KN95 masks, which I believe protect the wearer a bit more than cloth or typical masks do. They're not as easy to breathe in, but they offer a bit more protection to the wearer if I understand them correctly. You can also use the filter inserts in your cloth masks, I think that at least does a bit more than plain surgical masks but perhaps gadgetgirlil can confirm/deny those recs?

gadgetgirlil , thank you for the work you do! Because of well-trained, awesome cardiac rehab specialists, my husband had an amazing recovery, and our cardiac rehab team is amazing! I'm so glad to hear that your husband survived his heart attack and had such a great recovery. Thank goodness you were there to start CPR right away "Time is brain" is what they always drill into our heads when we go for recertification. I'm also glad he participated in cardiac rehab. Many people who are eligible don't. There are many reasons: distance to programs, lack of transportation, other co-morbidities. But for those who do, a monitored exercise and lifestyle management program can do wonders in getting people back to living their lives to the fullest. As for the masks, I don't have a recommendation about the inserts. If the mask isn't sealed to your face, the insert isn't going to be as effective. But in looking into this, I ended up in an Internet rabbit hole and have purchased a HEPA air purifier for my lab. I wanted something to better manage the ventilation around our metabolic cart. Since I can't vent to the outside, the air purifier seems like the next best thing along with opening up doors and using more fans to improve ventilation.

jeanie, thank you so much for sharing your story! i'm sorry you guys had to go through that and so glad to hear your husband is getting better. that is the part that makes me most angry/sad with people refusing to wear masks when out in public. what they do is expose those who are essential workers who have no choice but to be out there. we wear the masks to protect others, we ask people to wear a mask to protect us.
gadgetgirlil, thanks for sharing your thoughts as well. very informative!
you guys are great. love the discussion.

surfgirl, i can completely see how you'd have PTSD after a scare like that! i would too!
my ex husband's uncle unfortunately had a fatal heart attack also while at home. he was 63 years old. his wife was at home too but she doesn't know CPR and thus by the time the paramedics arrived they say he'd already been without oxygen to the brain for about 15 minutes i think. by the time they got him to the hospital they could revive him and keep him alive via machine but that was it. so his wife took him off life support. it was really tragic and she has PTSD for life now. she won't even remarry because she doesn't want to risk losing someone again.

Yes! Exactly, where did she get it?? There are so many variables. - Yes she wore a mask. What type of mask? Did she keep touching her face to adjust mask? Did she reuse a mask? She she take it off properly? - What did she touch when she came back into her apartment before she, hopefully, washed her hands. (hopefully proper procedure washing hands was used) Did she wash her keys, credit card, cell phone, doorknobs, hand railings, mail box, if she drove- car steering wheel, gas pump, door handles. If car service or bus, what did she touch in this mode of transport? Did she use a public bathroom ? Did she handle money and then touch her face. Did she touch the mask at any point to remove mask to sneeze, rub nose, talk on cell phone etc. - What procedure did she use for the things she brought into her home? mail, food packages etc. - she wore a mask but was she near people who did not wear one or did not wear it properly at all times? - Did she have people other than herself in her home? They may have had a mask on or not. Did they touch anything in her home ? The list goes on and on. My point is you can only do so much. I think the stressing over where she picked up a virus really isn't helping you. Many like her asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic, some will have minor symptoms. And Yes, some will get very sick and many die. My suggestion is to focus on what YOU can do (see the 3 C post up thread) and let the rest go. -

[quote author=" alias123" My suggestion is to focus on what YOU can do and let the rest go. - [/quote] alias123 that's all fine and well, but what everyone else does directly affects my life and my job so it's hard for me to let it go. Salons will be on the chopping block with bars and restaurants if our governor starts shutting down again and he is making his decisions on the number of cases. If it didnt I wouldn't give a flip about what anyone else does. When I see well over 1000 new cases every day I have to wonder who the H are these people and what are they doing ??

Just heard this from the Miami mayor said he got interesting information... so 71% have multiple people in the house sick. That's helpful
Florida...
30% ages 18 to 34
28% at home
71% more than 1 family member sick in the home

Our Governor has now started to tell us by county who is getting sick and where they were.
Currently it's, grad parties, pool parties and 4th of July. Also bars and vacationers coming home and bringing it with them.

Not 1 but 2 parties in my development yesterday. The first one I drove by and I could see everyone sitting around tables like there's no virus at all.
The second was at our party center.

My ex-husband and wife (#4) just got back from a week in Florida going to the beach and Disney! WTF! Her FB post said "I was just tired of being at home!" Honey, I get it! BUT why would you go to a hot spot? (yes they were wearing masks while at Disney). Thank goodness I watched that grand the past two weekends and his other grandparents (mom's parents) will be in town this weekend to watch him! UGH!!
It just blows my mind how some people are so nonchalant about this virus! If that baby gets sick because of something they did, I will never forgive them. That was why I stayed away from him for almost 4 months! It killed me, but I was more worried about his health and the health of my son and girlfriend!

A bunch of lifeguards from two towns on the Jersey shore tested positive for the virus. They had all gone to a couple of parties.
About a dozen members of the Marlins baseball team and staff tested positive for the virus. They had played in Philadelphia. Last I heard they were still there, don't know if they'll be able to go back to Florida. The Yankees were to play at the same field using the same clubhouse so that game got cancelled so everything can be cleaned.
