well after 20 years my scale batteries finally ran out (and i don't have extra batteries though i could have sworn i bought some pre-pandemic). so wasn't able to weigh yesterday or today but a new scale comes from amazon tomorrow. i figured may as well buy a new one since it's been long enough.

new scale comes from amazon tomorrow. Last year I showed a significantly lower weight for several weeks though I didn't think I was doing anything differently food intake-wise. DH ruined my fun when he noted that the same was happening to him and new batteries didn't make a difference, and he concluded that the scale was in need of replacement. The new one from Amazon had me right back to the weight I'd been before the "loss".

Oh sorry I didn't mean to imply this could happen to you! I just thought it was a funny story about me getting a new scale. Good luck and let us know if your new scale acts appropriately!

I finally got on the scale. I had to face the facts about my weight. I decided to start fresh with my "starting weight" and it is 176. My interim goal is obviously to get into the 160s range. After that, just reaching a normal BMI again would be great. For me, that's 156. A couple under that would make it a little safer.
Stress has been my biggest problem. Then my medications. Then my general lifestyle, which is a bit hard for me to change when it's hot and humid. I did have a little of a medication reduced in the mornings. I hope that helps. The overwhelming hunger is so difficult. My meals, themselves, have been reasonable, but the many snacks, not so much. I wake up at 3 am famished and then eat part of my breakfast at 5 am, before I put it on for my husband at 7 am.
One positive is that of the fats I've been eating, they've mostly all been healthier fats. I could still do a lot better, though.
Speaking of scales, mine has always weighed heavier (by about 2 lbs) than at my doctors' offices and a former WW group I used to go to. I'm trying to still go by my scale, despite its tendency.

I am going back to monthly weigh-ins, on or around the beginning of the month.
Weight loss for the month of June: 5.1 lbs.
I know daily or weekly or whatever weigh-ins work for many people but it irritates the heck out of me to see the inevitable fluctuations. After all these years I still let that number on the scale affect my mood for the day, way out of proportion to its actual importance.
See you in August!

getting on at same time every day has helped me to know how to handle the day. i like to think i'd handle it the same without the scale (and have the last two days since mine isn't working) but it's a good reminder when it's "up" to tighten in the reins or to keep doing what i'm doing when it's "down".
cyndee, i would think as long as you are weighing consistently on the same scale (your own at home) it wouldn't matter if it's slightly off from a scale you never or rarely use (doctor's office or WW center). all scales may be calibrated slightly differently and who is to say which one is the most accurate within 2 lbs. time of day matters too. i get on my scale completely naked and before breaking of the fast and yet i would of course never do that at a WW center or doctor's office so that could explain the difference (unless you weigh at home at those same times and with clothes on and all conditions the same).
stress eating is tough though. i fall victim to it as well.

fullmahina, that is a fantastic loss! Thanks. I'm not entirely sure this is correct but I was once told that scales in doctors' offices are often the most inaccurate because there is no way to know when or even if they have been calibrated correctly. I was also told that the scales in weight loss centers such as WW and Jenny Craig are some of the most accurate because they have to be calibrated regularly by law. It has something to do with charging for the service of weighing you, some commerce law regarding weights and measures. This is probably way more info than any of us are looking for but this is a study that was done comparing accuracy of scales in different settings including doctors' offices, weight loss centers, and fitness centers. Looks like the most accurate are the "pay by weight" places which I guess would include WW. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1497726/pdf/1613I have a WW bathroom scale (made by Conair) that is crazy accurate. Always within 1/10th of a pound of the WW scale at the center I used to go to. The same number even if I get on it ten times in a row. It was cheap, too---less than $30 I believe. Digital, glass, weighs in 0.1 lb increments. I've had it for about five years and the only time it goes off is when it needs a battery change. finreporter, what kind did you get?
