Sue- not sure if you can legally ask J to quarantine- but you can ask That he stay away from you for two weeks. Yes several southern states are in big trouble with regard to Covid- and as much as restrictions are challenging, they do seem to work. I don’t think total lockdown is necessary....but good caution and common sense really does work. (Ya can’t go to bars folks!!!)
Ruth- how frustrating that you are on row 5 and that hat pattern has not straightened out. Indeed I would scrap that pattern and either find a new one or use a favorite pattern that works out well.
Got a few hours here before it becomes too hot (only two). going to get my walk in now- then work on the laundry room and the quilt.

Got my walk in.....gotta say the last half mile was rather obnoxiously hot. So I am in for the day. Will wait for the chimney cleaner to get here, and take care of what i wanted to. I want to check my freezer and see if I have enough blueberries in it to make a pie. My neighbors mom passed, they already had services for her (Covid restrictions) but I would like to drop off a pie and a card for the family.

Sue, yes quarantining them by having him stay away from your home for two weeks sounds like a good idea. Cases keep increasing here but it's just been a week since all the stores mandated masks or you don't get in.I'm sure many of the younger crowd do gather at their favorite drinking spots.
I finished that hat and it fits me perfectly but I don't like how the top turned out. Since it's not for me it doesn't matter. Some people like that flat and gathered look that makes it look a little slouchy. So two are done for this week and I did start another. This one has little hearts all through it but the yarn I used ...Herrschners worsted8, is not thick enough to show well with the RHSS I was using for the main color. I stipped at row one and will pull that out and use another brand which I think is also rhss and looks as thick as the white. And it's back to the doll again today.
Ginny a day of working in the laundry room and on your quilt binding sounds perfect to me.

They keep saying that there is evidence of people wearing masks and social distancing in some of the problematic states, I guess I don’t necessarily see the evidence on the data presented. I am starting to gear up for the second wave- if and when that happens.
This weather depresses me. I get headaches in hot weather and have no energy. It looks like its nice outside and its really like an oven. I handle winter so much more gracefully- or perhaps its just a combination between the heat and the covid lockdown.
But- aside from feeling a bit drained, its been a good enough day. I repainted the ceiling fixture (now black, once gold) so that it matches the change in decor in the room. Right now its got tan colored walls and the cabinets are tan. I am repainting it all to be a crisp white, with a black and white sign that says laundry. Believe me, its not a big room (just big enough to house the washer and dryer) and will never be one of those pretty laundry rooms you see on TV- I just want it to look a bit cleaner. There is a fair amount of sheet rock work that needs doing, today I patched the one small section and it came out well. Guess tomorrow I have to start tackling the lower sections- which involves hanging small sections of sheet rock. I plan on starting behind the washer and dryer so if I am not very good at this process I will gain my practice there.
got sort of good news about the wood burner today. The chimney cleaner is coming back on another day (he has charged me nothing so far) to see if a liner can be fitted for this particular stove. There is one abnormality (which is why he is coming back on another day with his father to investigate) and I hope its not a difficult adaptation and that the stove can remain in service. We don’t use it often- but its nice to know that I have an alternate source of heat during a power outage.
Last night of Bible study tonight (using this particular study guide, which I am NOT fond of). But I enjoy my Monday night meetings with the women from my church.
I did finish the repair on DGS’s afghan- his 2 year old sister managed somehow to untangle a short section of the border and pull some of the stitches out. And I did get a bit more done on the quilt binding. The crocheting repair was a nice Change from the binding.
Guess that is it from me. Gonna go for a SHORT after dinner walk and then finish the lesson for study. G

Hello Crafters Hope everyone is doing well today and staying cool if it's hot where you are. It's in the high 90s here today, but lower humidity. I was still really hot after coming back in from just getting the mail. I'm not looking forward to going out one day this week, but I need to do it since groceries are getting low again. I was looking at my Lone Star quilt and the leftover fabric I have from making it. Here's the way I made this (Quiltsmart): www.quiltsmart.com/shop/Packs-Instructions--Interfacing/p/58-Lone-Star-Pack-x37082309.htmMy star is in three fabrics only - white, light aqua and dark aqua. I thought I had more white fabric left over but I don't have much since I used a lot of white for the four corners of the quilt. I wanted to put a small border of white fabric around the finished quilt top, just to secure the star points. I have to measure the inches it would take to do that and see if I can cut enough strips of white fabric to handle it. I would have to piece the strips together but I think I'd have enough for a 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch small border. I'd wanted to finish it a different way, but I may just have to add straight border of one of the aqua fabrics and use the other for binding. I do have enough of both of those fabrics to do that. I'll think about it a little bit. This is one of my quilt tops that I really love. I look at it and can't believe I made it I really enjoyed working with the Quiltsmart products. I made a Double Wedding Ring Table runner with them too: www.quiltsmart.com/shop/Packs-Instructions--Interfacing/p/Double-Wedding-Ring-Pack-x37082393.htmThe final block for the Silver Linings quilt came out today (12 blocks total), so I hope to finish it in the next few days and then figure out how I want to lay out these blocks. I want to use some of the leftover fabric to add more blocks since the 12 blocks are small. I didn't do any of the embroidery that was part of this project and don't plan to do it for this quilt top. Take care everyone!

Good morning, CJ- gee that Lone Star pattern is so pretty! Its easy to see why you are so very proud of that quilt top. Is that one of the quilt tops that you will have long armed locally- or would you send that one to MSQ?? Good directions and being organized can make these “looks impossible” quilts a reality. I well remember making the double Irish chain quilt, not knowing what I was doing at all, and seriously questioning how this process was ever going to work. But it almost seems miraculous when it all comes together to look wonderful. From looking at the picture, it appears as though they top stitched around each chevron, which of course would eliminate the need for long arming.
I am sure you will come out with a great way to finish the star quilt and the silver linings quilt. Think I would have done the same thing and eliminated the embroidery. How did you find the double wedding ring to work with? Its so pretty, but yes, it looks a whole lot scary to me.
Yup its hot here. I have a quick errand to run this am and will go into the food store to pick up a few items. Not looking forward to going out- don’t know how I will get a walk in today.
Guess I better get my lazy self doing something productive.I have a hard time motivating myself in this weather. I emailed Meg- got no response.
Hi to Sue, Phyl, Rene and Ruth.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Sounds like you have been busy around the house. I get headaches from the heat too, I think I've had 3 this past week. I love fall and winter and look forward to those seasons. I've always wanted to do a Double Irish Chain quilt, it's still on my list of quilts I'd like to make. I'm sure yours is beautiful. What colors did you use? The Double Wedding Ring wasn't hard to do using the Quiltsmart interfacing. It's a bit more work because you make the rings inside out and then you have to flip them to the right side, but there is a tool that you can buy to do that. I did enjoy making my table runner and I made a large one ring into a pillow as a gift for family members. For my Lone Star quilt, it will be one of the last quilts I get quilted because I really want to get a professional to do it and I want to make sure they are good before I give it to them. I think the 4 large white corners would look pretty with some custom quilting - like a medallion or feathers. I figured that I do have enough of the white fabric to put at least one small 2 inch border around this quilt and then I might have enough left to put another border around that. Here's a sample of what I really wanted to do with this quilt (see all the small blocks around the outside) If I can't get those blocks around the whole quilt, I might just put them at the top and bottom. I'll see how far my white fabric goes. I finished the small Silver Linings last block today, not my favorite since it had quarter triangles. I'll probably wait until next week to see the final layout, but I have an idea of what I want to do. Hope everyone is getting some crafting done and staying safe and cool. Take care!

had to go to the playpen after lunch.got a block straightened out to make the 12 and 1/2 inch square.
oh my gosh do I ever have to cut out 2 and 1/2 inch squares for the next block.
also have to make a lot flying geese strips. not my favorite. have a hard time getting them to come out to the right measurements.
what I really wanted to day was get my clutter off the machine and cutting table.

Phyl, have you ever used the flying geese templates?? I have one that I bought at the quilt shop I go to sold the “Quilt in a day” template/ruler. It makes 2 different sizes of flying geese and I gotta say once you get the hang of using it, its a pretty reliable method to make flying geese. That BOM I made had plenty of geese in it....and it was nice to be able to make them without too much difficulty. Sounds like you stiffened up from sitting all day sewing. Hope that the pain meds helped and that you are more comfortable. When do you see the chiropractor again??
CJ- I made my Irish Chain (double) using the directions from Eleanor Burns- Irish Chain in a day. You can pick up a used copy on Amazon for less than a dollar.... I completely self taught myself to make this quilt using these directions. For a good week or so I thought I was losing my marbles, and then saw the method to her madness. Her directions are insanely easy- super step by step. She pretty much covers one step per page, so there is no confusion at all. The only place that I differ from her directions now, is that she uses the quick turn method to finish the quilt. You are way beyond that level and would make the quilt sandwich and attach a binding last. But it would be so easy to adapt her directions to do that. I was just starting to quilt and did not want to ruin good fabric on my first real quilting effort. A friend (former quilter) had just bequeathed to me a ton of fabrics, so I used what I had here. The only fabric I had to buy was the batting.....I used the reverse color order for this quilt. Most irish chain quilts are white background, I went with a black print, pink and white floral. Its dramatic, but pretty. Ai learned a lot from this quilt- and the wonderful step by step directions
Yes, I like the border of that quilt with the small blocks around the corner....so very pretty.
Got a few minutes of binding work done. Sooner or later I will finish. Gonna see if somehow I can get a picture of my double irish chain to show up here. Ginny.

CJ- I just emailed a picture of my double irish chain- which I give you complete permission to paste into this site if you can. I have to go back and re read the directions on how to do so. Problem is I am using an IPad, sometimes the directions are very different for Apple products.

I don't remember how much the little flying geese thing was that they sold us at the quilting classes but it did work very well.
Looks like I missed a lot of posts..some from last night but I read them this morning. Now have forgotten what was said except for Phyl's back and I'm glad to hear it's feeling better. I also saw that Ginny painted the light fixture...good work!
Dh and I saw the weekly ad for one of the grocery stores here that puts out the ad on Tuesdays and they had some good sales on some meats so we went there and stocked up. Our freezer is full now again. I thought that all the stores were mandating mask wearing but this store just has a sign asking people to use masks. There weren't a lot of people there but most had masks. There still were some without them. It was exhausting.we're having a couple cool days now then back to 90's and yes I think that my lack of energy lately was due to the heat even though we don't have humdiity.
CJ, that quilt is beautiful. So if I understand you correctly, you made the same one but in teals, right?
